Peacefully, surrounded by family and friends, on Tuesday, August 12, 2014. Nina celebrated life with her much loved and devoted partner, best friend and companion, Philip Quintal. Dear sister and sister-in-law of Steve and Chantal Goldman. Daughter of the late Jean (Queenie) Goldman and the late Basil Goldman. Loving aunt of Sean and Samantha. Nina will be sadly missed by Philip’s family; ‘Poppy’, Janet, Lauren, Chelsea, and all of those whose lives she touched. She was always surrounded by her many dear friends, all of whom were considered family. Nina cooked, swam, traveled, taught, loved and lived. Proud great-grandmother of Antonio Winstan. Dearest sister and sister-in-law of Moe and Yolande Herman, Hy (Blackie) and Sophie Herman, Zena and the late Ben Herman, the late Bernice and the late Irving Spector and the late Marcel Blais; and sister-in-law of Ethel and the late Abe Silver, the late Sophie and the late Moe Winstan, the late Shoshana Winstan, and the late Lillian Winstan. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her nieces, nephews, family and friends. GOODMAN, Rosalind (nee Druker). It is with profound sadness that the Goodman family announces the passing of Rosalind Goodman z”l on Monday, August 11, 2014. Beloved wife of Morris Goodman for fifty-three years. Devoted mother and mother-in-law of Deborah and Gerald Davis, David and Mia (Melmed), Jonathan and Dana (Caplan), Shawna and Todd Sone. Cherished “Granny” of Elizabeth and Benjamin Davis; Julia Goodman; Noah, Lilah and Orly Goodman; Zachary, Andrew and Nathaniel Sone. Dear sister-in-law of Luba and the late George Coviensky, the late Jenny and the late Joseph Helfenbaum. Roz will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched. Rosalind devoted her life to philanthropy and making a difference. Together with her husband, Morris, they endowed the Rosalind and Morris Goodman Family Foundation to support medical, educational and communal projects. The Agora at Université de Montréal is a shining example of their commitment to higher education. As a proud graduate of McGill University, she was especially committed to supporting McGill and cancer research through the creation of The Rosalind and Morris Goodman Cancer Research Centre. Rosalind always believed that the best form of charity was giving generously of her time for numerous charitable organizations, including the Jewish General Hospital, Federation CJA, Congregation Shaar Hashomayim, Israel Bonds, Canadian Friends of Israel Museum, Mazon Canada, Jewish Public Library, and others. When asked by strangers about her vocation, she replied: "I am a professional volunteer". Rosalind received an Honorary Doctorate degree of Laws from McGill University, and, more recently, the Jewish community’s highest honour – The Samuel Bronfman Medal Award. Her daily acts of kindness to all exemplified “Tikun Olam” – making the world a better place. May we all be inspired by her example. He is also survived by 25 great-grandchildren (k”ah) who cherished him. Funeral service took place on Sunday, July 13. BESNER, Gerald Jeremiah. November 23, 1922 – August 17, 2014. After a courageous battle, Gerald left this world in peace. He leaves behind his beloved wife Nancy; and his loving and devoted sons Michael (Cynthia), and Sheldon. He will be sadly missed by his five grandchildren, Oliver, Sayra (Carl Ashqar), Zackary, Luke, and Hannah Bella; his great-grandson, Cooper Shane; and his cherished siblings Miriam Traegar (Seymour), and Marvyn Besner (Dinnie).
