She will be greatly missed by her many friends and extended family, especially among them, Candice Rice (Toronto) and Liu Jie (Cyprus). Bess was raised in Montreal and Cornwall. Bess was a long-time supporter and member of the highly creative community of Temple Emanu-El-Beth Sholom in Westmount. Upon the death of Sam, she exchanged her life as homemaker, to first, running the family shoe business on Ste. Catherine Street in Montreal and, second, becoming an award winning, international, mutual funds executive. With her second husband Charles Benovoy, she embarked on a new passion as lady farmer and antique dealer in Iroquois, Ontario. The two were active community members and learned to square dance with the best of them. She and Charles subsequently moved to Ottawa, where she was adored by many friends and family. She and Charles traveled extensively, taking immersion language lessons in a small french village in the Côte d'Azur and to various places in Asia, Europe and North America, where Charles participated as a champion walking marathoner. Upon the death of Charles, Bess relocated to Toronto. There, she worked and traveled with son Leonard. Throughout her life she was game to try everything. In her late 80s, she embarked on a canoe trip down the Amazon and visited small tribal villages in Uganda. Bess lived happily for several years at the Terraces of Baycrest, where she will be remembered for her positive outlook on life, boundless energy and kindness to her many friends and staff, especially members of her Mahjong Group and her pals at table 49, including the third special man in her life, Sonny Breger, who died last year, with Bess by his side and her big fan, Yankel Gladstone. Last spring, Bess made her final move to live with Leonard in Cyprus, where many on the Island will have lasting memories of her youthful and charismatic personality. She is coming back to Montreal to be buried beside Sam, who has been patiently waiting for her for almost sixty years.
