ABSIL, Walter. Peacefully, in his 91st year, on Wednesday October 28, 2015. Beloved husband of the late Erika for 69 years. Loving father and father-in-law of Ingrid Pokrass and Michael Efraim, Micky Absil, Karin and Teddy Jacobson. Cherished Papa of Leslie and Gary, Robin, Neil and Cheryl, Paul, Sydney and Taylor. Much loved great grandfather of Zachary, Charlie, Max, Madison, Jaden, Hannah & Quinn. Godfather of Michelle Levesque. Brother of Elisabeth Pollack; brother-in-law to Inge Husnak. Born in Vienna, Austria, a holocaust survivor, Walter spent more than 30 years speaking to students about tolerance and respect for others. He was on the board of the Montreal Holocaust Memorial Center and B’nai Brith Montreal. He received numerous awards for his dedication to the cause of Holocaust education. Walter’s legacy continues through his movie “ A Witness to History”. A special thank you to Emily Gadia who so lovingly cared for him in his final year.
