COHEN, Frederick (Ricky). Peacefully, after a courageous battle, on Saturday, April 7, 2012. Cherished son of Bernice and the late Samuel E. Cohen. Beloved brother and brother-in-law of Elaine and Dr. Eric Davis. Adored uncle of Dr. Neil and Lainie Davis, Cindy and David Abramovitch, and great-uncle of Samuel and Evan Abramovitch, and Zoe Davis. He was a truly special and loving person who enriched the lives of all those he touched, and will be fondly remembered by his family and friends. Norma Betty Benson
Norma Betty Benson (nee Grover) 1930 – 2012 Peacefully, on Friday, April 6, 2012, after a long and complicated illness, which she bore with her typical courage and fortitude. She is survived by her loving and beloved husband, of sixty years, Bob, her children and their spouses, Peter and Marina of Toronto, Jeffrey and Michele of Freeport, ME, Wendy and Rodney (Dickel) of Ottawa, to whom she was a wonderful and devoted mother and mother-in-law, and who will greatly miss her and her loving relationship with them. Her seven grandchildren, David, Joseph and Noah (Toronto), Sophie and Esme (Freeport), Sarah and Kayla (Ottawa) were joyfully linked to her, despite their geographical separation. Dear sister and sister-in-law of Marvyn and Bernice Grover, the late Geraldine Lithwick, and sister-in-law of Sydney Lithwick, Richard Benson of New York, the late Donald Benson. Norma Betty will be forndly remembered by her numerous aunts, cousins, nephew and nieces, with whom she had close ties over the years, reflecting the strong sense of family, which she inherited along with her interest in communal and public organizational activities from her parents, Hyman and Dorothy Grover. Born and raised in Montreal, she had cherished friendships going back 70 years or more. Her love of the Laurentians and her caring for animals were legendary. While getting her Master`s degree at McGill, she still kept up the skiing she started at age 3, highlighted by her doing the Saudan Couloir at Whistler with Nancy Greene at age 61. She rode her own horses from pre-school days up to age 77. She balanced all this with such work as co-chairing the Junior Committee of CJA, Board Membership on the Junior Committee of the OSM, Chairmanship of the Annual Fine Arts Auction of a major charitable organization. The family thanks the fine doctors, nurses and staff at both the Jewish General and Montreal General Hospitals, with special thanks to Dr. Julian Falutz for his kindness, and to her private caregivers, especially Isidra, Judith and Mariette.
