Devoted father and father-in-law of Donna and the late Ed Cordary, Maury and Randy, Mariam and Chuck Breger, Susie and Moish Bronet. Cherished Papa of Shari and David Romer; Jason and Miri Bowen, D’vorah and David Miller; Tal and Lisa Finkelstein; Zohar and Samson Bowen-Bronet. Loving great grandfather of seven. Dear brother of the late Ida Zabitsky, the late Jack, the late Solly, the late Myer, the late Malka, and brother-in-law of Eileen, Helen, Micky; Jack and Lillian Margolis, the late Charles Zabitsky, the late Sam and the late Ida Margolis, the late Mark and the late Anne Irving. He will be fondly remembered by his nieces, nephews, family and friends. Murray was loving, kind, generous, and a true gentleman. Lifetime friend of Fanny Leffel and very special friend of Shirley and Harry Farnath. Issie was a gentle, spiritual man who embraced all faiths and cultures. SHAGASS, Queenie (née Cohen). It is with profound sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Queenie Shagass, at Leisureworld, Richmond Hill, Ontario, on Wednesday, April 25, 2012, in her eight-sixth year. She was predeceased by her devoted husband, Fred Shagass, after only fifty-four years of marriage. Queenie was the beloved mother and mother-in-law of Shelley and Steven, and Charles and Janet, grandmother to Robin, Liane and Jacqueline, great-grandmother to Dalya and Marlo, and doting aunt to Hazel and Stewart. In her younger days she was a world traveller, an accomplished artist in a wide variety of media, and loved nothing better than to throw imaginative parties for her friends and family. Her mission in life was always to take the road less travelled. Queenie was an inspiration to all who knew her and will continue to live on in our hearts. Joseph Aaron Friedman
Friedman, Joe, on Thursday, April 26, 2012, at the age of 86. Husband of the late Nancy Salter. Father of David, Matthew (Molly Giblin) and Elinor (Rene Monette). Zaide of Naomie, Sophie and Benjamin Curis-Friedman. Brother of Gersha (Joe Fogel), Shulom (Faigie), Ted (Louise Gagné), and the late Arthur, Melvin, Regina (Elis Lewkowicz), Ruth (Isadore Lubin), and Jack. A veteran of the Royal Canadian Air Force in the Second World War, Joe was a well-known member of the community, as director of Camp B'Nai Brith, Camp Wooden Acres, the Jewish Laurentian Fresh Air Camp and the Y Country Camp between 1960 and 1976. From 1977 until his retirement in 1995, Joe directed social services for the elderly at Maimonides Hospital and Jewish Family Services. Joe's kindness, decency and sense of humour will be missed by all who knew him. Funeral service at Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean Talon St. W., on Monday, April 30 at 10:00 a.m. Burial at the Field of Honour Cemetery, Pointe Claire. Shiva to be announced.
