Derek Zachery Thomas
September 25, 1985 - June 19, 2003
Funeral arrangements by
Salon Funéraire Rideau / Rideau Funeral Home

It is with great sadness that we have tragically lost our dear Derek at the age of seventeen. Parents, Chérie Thomas and Howard Desmond, wish to share his legacy to extended family and abundant friends.

Derek started life in Anderson, South Carolina until the age of three when he moved to Montreal. He loved his role as big brother to Jordan, sixteen and sisters, Megan ten, and Carissa six. He was their protector with a soft heart. He could always be counted on to be there for them even if it meant helping with homework or being taken to the park. He is cherished by grandma Andrée Camille, great-grandmother Carmen Rivard, and God-mother Auntie Eve. Derek loved to be around people and a large extensive family provided the right ambiance for his generous and thoughtful personality.

Derek was a diverse young man interested in everything around him. Some of his pastimes included cooking, learned from his dad - lasagna became his specialty. He was adept at woodworking and art and his comedic side took over as he sketched caricatures. He was particularly proud of his dramatic role as Nelson Mandella in a school play. A savvy dresser, Derek was always up to date whether in fashion or his cutting edge taste in music.

Derek was a Boy Scout and later spent five years in the RCAC, 803rd, Riverdale Squadron. Promoted to Sergeant, he remembered survival training with great passion and dreamed of one day becoming a pilot. Also an avid fan of rugby Derek recently joined a West Island team sure that he was their fastest runner.

A recent graduate of Linday Place High School in Pt. Claire, he will be missed by his many friends and teachers.

Derek`s legacy reveals that his light shone bright and his loving spirit touched all that knew him. He will forever be remembered in our hearts.

Derek is resting at Rideau Funeral Home, 4275 des Sources, DDO, (514) 685-3344. Visitation – Sunday, June 22nd, 2003, 2:00-4:00PM & 7:00-9:00PM. Services to be held Monday, June 23rd, 2003, at 2:00PM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 58 Eaton (off Brunswick) Kirkland, Qc. (514) 694-3638.

On the wings of a dove, may your soul fly forever.
