It is with the greatest regret, deepest sorrow, yet gentle relief that we share with you the passing of our mother, Irene Dorothy Bacon of Stanstead, Quebec. Peacefully, during the afternoon of April 9, 2009, Irene relinquished her courageous, seven-year battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was born in the year 1919 and was pre-deceased by her parents John Francis Danneau and Leah Bessie Simoneau and her husband James Alexander. She leaves her love behind with her two children, Gail Audrey and Shelley John (Janet Purchase), her three grandchildren, Katalin, Isaac and Emily. She will also be sadly missed by S. Wendy Ryan along with nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Irene will be fondly remembered for her strong sense of family commitment and devotion, her welcoming and positive attitude, hard work and her easy going manner which endeared her to so many. Irene’s family holds the highest regard for the staff at the Foyer Wales Home located in Richmond, Quebec, and wishes to thank them for their dedication and support over the years. Thanks Mom, for providing your unconditional love, your strength, your kindness and providing, with Dad, a secure and peaceful household. Betty Garrett passed away, in her 92nd year, at the Connaught Home, North Hatley QC, Saturday September 13th, 2008. Mother of Gordon Garrett (wife Diane).and the late Barbara (Garrett) Drebnicki; grandmother of David Garrett (wife Jill), Margo (Garrett) O'Brien(husband Dennis) and Michael Garrett(wife Bev), and great grandmother of Jack, Hatley, William, Murielle and Gordon. Betty also leaves her sisters, Jean, Margaret, Doris and brother Ken. A funeral service will be held at a later date. Passed away in Sherbrooke on December 27th. Pre-deceased by his parents Mary Duffin and Stanley Swift, his brother Thomas (Margaret Hume) and his sister Beverly (Peter Deslauriers). He is survived by his brother Graham (Susan Hunter), his nephews Todd (Sara), Jordan (Jacynthe), Ryan and his niece Laura. He will be missed by his cousin Brenda (Harry Wilson) and family. John practiced law in Montreal for over 50 years and leaves behind many friends and colleagues, including his assistant and friend, Patty Mylonas. Passed away at his home in Melbourne, on Tuesday December 7th, 2010 at the age of 72. Loving husband of 46 years to Bernice Picken Gillis, and dear father of Anthony Robert (Natalie LeBlanc) and Andrew James Edward (Lynn Williston). Special Granpy of Alexander Robert and Christopher Joseph. Bob also leaves to mourn, his sisters Irene, Evelyn and Anna, his brothers Armand (Germaine) and Gerry, his sisters-in-law Elsie (late Sonny Dunn), Fran (John Cunningham), Beth (Ken Harrison), Margaret (late George Picken), Laura (late Paul Gillis) and his brothers-in-law, Ken (Margaret Billson), Gary (Lois Scott) and Raymond Fleck (late Myrtle). Favourite uncle to many nieces, and nephews, and will be sadly missed by good friends and neighbours. Passed away at the C.S.S.S. Memphremagog on Tuesday, December 16, 2008, at the age of 95 years. Cherished husband of Vera Dustin and loving father of: Carol (Arnold) of Stanstead, and Gary (Kathy) of Calgary; dear grandfather of : Todd (Manon), Judy (John), Jared and Cade. Charles will also be sadly missed by his great-grandchildren: Emilie, Amanda, Aisha, and Mikaelle; along with his sister Dorothy, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. Griffiths Lester, Monica
A long –time resident of Stanstead, QC, died on November 5, 2010, at the Victoria Hospital in London, Ontario. Born in England on May 21, 1927, she emigrated to Canada in 1955 with her husband Raymond and three sons. After 2 years in Hazenmore, Saskatchewan and 6 years in Winnipeg her family moved east- first to Montreal and then to Stanstead in 1966 where Raymond was appointed headmaster of Stanstead College. After Raymond died in 1971, Monica returned to Montreal and worked at the Montreal General Hospital for 20 years. Retirement brought her back to Stanstead in 1992. There, with her partner Tony Eveleigh (deceased), she enjoyed gardening, socializing, traveling, and entertaining family and friends at her Lac Lyster cottage. She also worked with the IODE serving the community and supporting local charities. Most of all she enjoyed people. She said farewell to many friends last February when, due to illness, she moved to London where she could be closer to her family. She is survived by her three sons: Kevin (Leena) in England, Nigel (Ellen Post) in Peterborough and Andrew (Jinx Weise) and daughter-in-law Pam Dopp in London. Much loved grandmother of Sebastian, Dominic, Tamara, Jonah, Gillian, Emily and Fiona. Monica will also be sadly missed by her three great-grandchildren: Rose, Caitlin and Harry. Suddenly at home in Ajax, Ontario on November 27, 2008 in her 81st year. Beloved wife of George Smiley and dear mother of Karen Beverley Wall. Loving daughter of the late Parker and Elizabeth Harling of Bishopton, Quebec. Sisters to the late Vernie Peasley, Vera Harper, Thelma Harding and the late Nelson Harling, Betty Butler and Bill Harling. Beverley will be sadly missed by her son-in-law David Joseph Wall, and her granddaughter, Devon Elizabeth Wall who she cherished. Beverley will also be missed by her many friends in both Quebec and Ontario and especially by her furry friend Taffy. Beverley will be resting at Cass Funeral Home in Lennoxville, Quebec with visitation on December 4, 2008 from 7 to 9 pm. A funeral service will be held on December 5 at 2pm at the funeral home and burial wil take place the following day at Lakeside Cemetery in Bishopton.
