Edna passed away Friday, August 3, 2012 at North Country Hospital, Newport, VT, with family and friends close by her side. She was born in Leeds Village, QC on November 22, 1923. She married Ernest Smith on July 3, 1943. No one had a greater love of life than mom… she loved her home, her family and her friends. She had the most amazing support group and circle of friends that hand carried her with love and encouragement. Her favourite hobby was dancing, and she dances whenever her legs allowed. When she was not dancing, she was making pickles and jams… all grown in her garden, or picked be herself and her friends. She was a pioneer living alone in an old farm house in Richmond, QC and promising her worried children that she would soon move to town. Edna is predeceased by her husband Ernest, her brother Alton and her sister Freda Raymond. She is survived by her 3 daughters; Judy (Donnie Johnston), Betty (Tom Horgan) and Alma (Stephen Marsh). She has 6 grandchildren; Cindy (Gary), Scott (Kelly), Barbie, Sherry (Ron), Shelly (Jim) and Laurie, several great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild. Edna was very involved in all the activities surrounding her home. She belonged to many groups, but the Richmond Hill Women’s Institute was her true favourite, and this small group worked very hard to keep the Richmond Hill Institute afloat for this remarkable woman. Visitation will be held at the Cass Funeral Home, 295 Principale S., Richmond, on Monday August 6th from 7 to 9 PM and on Tuesday from 10 to 10:45 AM. A funeral service will be held in St-Anne’s Anglican Church on Tuesday August 7th at 11:00 AM with Rev. Andrew O’Donnell officiating. Interment in St-Anne’s Cemetery. Passed away at the CSSS Memphremagog, on Tuesday, July 17, 2012 at the age of 81, Melvin Leslie Smith. Dear father of Bernie (Annabelle) and Melinda (Bernie Ruskin). Melvin was the cherished grandfather of Amor and Samantha Smith and Jordan and Brittany Dunseith. Melvin is survived by his sister Vivian Warner. Peacefully at the Centre d'hébergement St-Joseph du CSSS-IUGS, Sherbrooke, QC on Saturday, April 1st 2006 in her 94th year. Hilda Ellen (Nellie) Hand, beloved wife of the late Jean (Mike) Morin and dear mother of Louise (the late Dean Mitchell). Cherished grandmother of Dale (Sharon Hatch) and Lana (Denis), Hilda was the proud great-grandmother of Raymond, Jacob and Jonathan. She is survived by her brother-in-law, Henry Morin of Magog. She was predeceased by her sisters Viola, Lorraine and her brother Bill Hand. She will be sadly missed by many nieces and nephews. Peacefully at the Wales Home, Richmond, QC, on Saturday, March 25th 2006. Ellen (Dolly) Victoria Cathcart (nee Hatch) in her 92nd year. Beloved wife of the late Arthur Colin Cathcart and daughter of the late Charles William Hatch Sr and the late Eliza Ellen Wimshurst. Ellen leaves to mourn her sisters: Eileen Johnson- Di Simini (late Edwin and late Steven), Joyce Elliott (Hap) and Geraldine Chilvers (late Reginald); sisters-in-law: Sylvia Hatch (late Albert), Eula Cathcart (late Raymond), Anna Armstrong (late Ralph Cathcart). Predeceased by her brothers Charles (late Winnifred), Albert (Sylvia) and Lewis (late Hilda) and sister Lilian Allanson (late Joseph). Lovingly remembered and missed by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Daughter of the late Roy Heath and Iva Mosher Heath. Loving mother of Clarence (Linda). Precious grandmother of Ronald, Daniel and Bradley of Ontario. Irene will also be very sadly missed by her sister Gertrude (Leonard Flanders), her step-sons Allan (Judy) and Gary (Bernice), step-grandchildren: Joseph, Darcie, Jaime, Derek and Brandon, step-great-grandchildren Zachary and Cody, as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He is survived by his brother Edward (June) and sisters: Irene Ride, Mary (Wendell Gaulin) and Grace Cote. He was pre-deceased by his sisters: Dorothy Green and Marjorie Grenier. He is remembered by his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Gordon, Pearl Smith, Bernice Johnson, Lloyd (Elsie) and Ernest. Pre-deceased by Carl, Ashley and Dorothy Chute.
