Carol Emily Fahlman
On Friday, November 21, 2008, Carol Emily Fahlman passed away at the Weyburn General Hospital at the age of 61 years. Carol was predeceased by her mother, Evelyn Schlechter. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband, Al Fahlman of Weyburn, and two daughters, Holly (Daryl) Vandale of Weyburn and their sons, Taylor, Noah and Carter, and Mandy (Andrew) Kerr of Regina and their sons, Hayden and Cameron; her father, Joseph Schlechter; brothers and sisters, Art (Dianne) Schlechter of Colesdale Park, Joe (Patti) Schlechter of Regina, Joan Schlechter of Maple Ridge, BC, Jim (Betty) Schlechter of Regina, Ralph (Lorna) Schlechter of Regina, Loretta (Dave) Zerr of Regina and Mark (Sheila) Schlechter as well as numerous nieces, nephews, uncles, aunts, cousins, relatives and friends. Carol was born at Grayson and was raised in a large family of eight children. She lived in Grayson until she was fifteen, when her parents moved to Regina and bought a home. She finished her High School at Scott Collegiate in Regina, then started training as a Psychiatric Nurse in Weyburn. After graduating, she worked at the Esendale Mental Hospital and with Mental Health in Regina, then moved to the position of Activity Director at the Parkside Nursing Home in Regina, where she was the first ever "female" director. She developed a Volunteer program that was adopted by other Nursing Homes as far away as BC. After living in Regina for 18 years, Carol met and married her husband, Al Fahlman. She moved to Weyburn and managed and operated Blooms and Blossoms Garden Centre, and at the same time worked as a sales clerk at the 7-11 Convenience Store. Carol's family was her priority, and she enjoyed living in Weyburn and spending time at family events. She loved her pet cats and enjoyed reading and photography. Her love of animals was brought to light when they lived in the trailer court as she provided food and water for many stray animals, mainly cats. Carol was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church in Weyburn. She will be lovingly remembered by all she knew and loved. Prayers were said Tuesday, November 25 at 6:30 p.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 26 at 10:30 a.m. from St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church, Weyburn with Father Gerry Bauche officiating. Interment followed in Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn. Pallbearers were: Shaun Schlechter, Tyson Schlechter, Ryan Schlechter, Stephen Zerr, Chris Zerr, Kyle Zerr and Bobbie Mayer. Joseph Gerald Downing
Joseph Gerald Downing was predeceased by his parents, Alvie and Rosa Downing, his wife Anita Downing, daughter Sharon Wilkes, granddaughter Danielle Johnston, great grandson Lance, brothers, Fred Hill, Dave Hill, Leo Downing and his sister Jeanette McIntosh. Joseph is survived by his children: Gordon (Dorothy) Downing, Judi Young, Joanne (Jim) Johnston, Marilyn Fowlow, his grandchildren: Joseph, Tammi, Ryan, Kevin, Kimberley, Carma, Aaron, Kristie - Anne, Michael, Jennifer, Andrea, Travis, Devon, Andrew, Allison, eight great grandchildren, brothers, Lawrence Downing, Ernie (Betty) Downing, Melvin Downing, sisters, Marie Burgess, Lorraine (Bill) Jablonski as well as many nephews and nieces. Evelyn Louise (nee Lynch) Telford
On Wednesday, November 26, 2008, Evelyn Louise (nee Lynch) Telford passed away at Tatagwa View Long Term Care Facility at the age of 93 years. Evelyn was predeceased by her mother and father, Charlotte and David Lynch; her husband, Clarence Telford; sister, Patricia Warner; mother-in-law, Hesther Telford; father-in-law, Robert Telford; and a sister-in-law, Lois Telford. Evelyn will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Darlene (Ross) Hallett of Edmonton, AB; and her son, Randy Telford (Carla Lillejord) of Weyburn and his children: Sarah Telford (Phil Robinson) of Ottawa, ON, Jessica Telford (Nigel Hood) of Regina and Kristie Telford (Trevor Blaine) of Weyburn; a brother, Claude Lynch and brother-in-law, Bill Warner and his family of Edmonton, AB; as well as numerous relatives and friends. Evelyn Louise Lynch was born March 12th, 1915 in Wolsey. On June 14, 1947, Evelyn married Clarence Telford. They lived in Regina, Swift Current, and Moose Jaw, but considered Weyburn to be their home since 1965. Evelyn and Clarence spent 55 loving years together, with some of their favourite moments taking place at "the lake" with their children and grandchildren. An accomplished homemaker, Evelyn provided a warm and loving home to her family and friends. Family was everything to Ev and she will always be in their hearts for the loving, caring, beautiful person that she was. Giving back to the people of her community was of utmost importance to Evelyn. As such, she devoted much time and energy to numerous projects over the years at the Knox Presbyterian Church. She also volunteered with the Canadian Diabetes Association and Meals on Wheels. An active mind, Evelyn enjoyed reading and took interest in politics and the democratic process, having served as an Enumerator on a regular basis over the years. Evelyn held a deep appreciation and respect for all things living and could find beauty in the most ordinary of situations - whether that be children playing, deer standing in a field, or wildflowers growing in the ditch. Funeral services were held Monday, December 1st at 2:00 p.m. at Knox Presbyterian Church in Weyburn. with Rev. John Ferrier and Rev. Ina Golais officiating. Internment followed in Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn. The Pallbearers were: Mark Johnston, Mike Johnston, Trevor Blaine, Gary Hudson, Phil Borys and Ray Gustafson. Earl Claude Colbow
Earl Claude Colbow, late of Radville, SK and formly of Khedive, passed away on Wednesday, November 26th, 2008 at the age of 89 years. Earl was predeceased by his parents; Fred and Mable Colbow; his wife, Alice Colbow, son-in-law, Brian, grandson-in-law, Mike and great grandson, Justin along with many sisters, brothers, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. Earl is survived by his children: Mel (Alice) Colbow, Ross Colbow, Diana (Gary) Leflar, Gail Leflar, Nila (Reg) Fellner, sixteen grandchildren, twenty seven great grandchildren, two sisters, Thelma Verrett and Ida Guersky, many sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A Graveside Service for Earl Claude Colbow was held on Monday, December 1st at 11:00 a.m. at the Khedive Cemetery, Khedive with Pastor Martin Olson officiating. Dorothea Hoffmann
Hoffmann, Dorothea - On November 25, 2008 Mrs. Dorothea Hoffmann of Tyvan, SK, passed away peacefully with her family at her side at the age of 81 years. Left to cherish her memory are her husband of 63 years Jacob; three children Janice (Dave) Ulrich, Judy Kilback and Douglas (Laura); nine grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; brother Bill Harlos; sister Melinda Gamer; numerous step-siblings as well as other relatives and friends. Dennis Dewayne Doud
On Tuesday, November 25, 2008, Dennis Dewayne Doud passed away at the Radville Marian Health Centre at the age of 70 years. Dennis was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Sarah Doud; brothers: Jim, Irvin and Eddy Doud; sister-in-law, Leona Doud; nephew, Jody Doud; father-in-law, Eddie Ror and mother-in-law, Azilda Ror. Dennis will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 25 years, Pat Doud of Radville, two sons: Darren Sawyer of Radville and Grant (Norenne) Sawyer of Radville; one daughter, Loretta Sawyer (Cory Bokamyer) of Moose Jaw; grandchildren: Travis Cook, Lane Sawyer, April, Jasmin and Tyson Bokamyer; brother, Lionel (Gladys) Doud of Maxim; sister, Clarice (Elwood) Anderson of Strathmore, AB; sisters-in-law: Myrtle Doud, Dorothy Doud, Doreen (Rick) Erick; brothers-in-law: Clement (Flora) Dedora and Doug (Elaine) Dedora; as well as many numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Dennis was born December 23, 1937 in the Bornon family farm house in Maxim. Dennis lived with his mom and dad on the farm and completed his education to grade eight, choosing not to continue as he worked on the family farm. He was always very good to his parents and treated his mom with much respect. He was used to having her by the arm, helping her, she was right at his side. She always called him "Denie" and they were very close. He lived 50 years on the family farm with his mom until he married Pat on November 5th, 1983 at the Grace United Church in Weyburn. Pat and Dennis just celebrated their 25th anniversary. His mom lived with the family until care became too much. He lived 20 years in the town of Radville where he bought a house and worked at E. Bourassa and Son's for ten years until retiring due to ill health. Dennis farmed for the first 50 years of his life. He loved his horse 'Goodie Two Bar', liked his cattle and farm life in general. He also raised sheep and had a goat. He enjoyed gardening and yard work in general. He had a Pomeranian called 'Teddy' who was his dear friend and was with Dennis all the time. He loved going to Rodeos and enjoyed 'coffee row', visiting with friends and neighbors. He was a member of the PFRA, a life-time member of the Stock Growers Association and a strong member of the Elks Lodge for many years. He actively participated in all the events that the Elks held. He was very active in family life and did a lot of things for his three children. Dennis loved his home and really enjoyed family barbeques. He was easy going and very thoughtful, a simple man, working very hard all his life. His life was happy throughout. Dennis was a loving husband and father to his family. He was a good friend, neighbor, relative and an all round wonderful man. He will be dearly missed by everyone who knew him. A Memorial Service was held Monday, December 1st at 2:00 p.m. from Radville United Church, Radville with Kathy Gundason officiating. Interment followed in Laurier Cemetery, Radville. Jacob "Jake" Uytterhagen
On Tuesday, December 2nd, 2008 Jacob "Jake" passed away peacefully with his wife, Marian by his side. Predeceased by his parents, Catherine and Leon Sr. Jake is survived by his loving wife, Marian and his children: Cheryll Meredith (Ross), Randy (Terri), Brad (Colleen) and Kevin (Lana). Also surviving, Janice Hickey (Mike), James Fox (Suzy) and John Fox (Sandra); grandchildren: Luke and Drew Meredith; Jordan (Michelle), Nicole, Sarah and Jerad, Kristopher, Kyle, Hayley, Jacob Uytterhagen and Justine and Mitchell Hickey. Also surviving are siblings, Odaf (Mae), Theresa (Tony) Frischholz, Leon (Ethel), Harold (Marion). Jake was born in Gladmar, SK and had many fond memories of his childhood growing up on the family farm. As a young family, Jake and Ann (Schmidt) moved to Regina and Jake spent close to 30 years working at the IPSCO steel plant. Upon retirement, Jake and Marian moved to Weyakwin Lake and made their cabin a home, enjoying every day to the fullest. Jake was very active in community activities at the lake, especially the Snowmobile Club. He was always willing to lend a hand or a screwdriver. Jake was always eager to play a game of poker or go fishing with his family. Funeral mass will be held on Saturday, December 6, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. in St. Peter's R. C. Church, 100 Argyle Street, Regina with Rev. J. B. Okai presiding. Interment will be held in Minton at a later date. Brillinger, John
John was born on November 17, 1950 in New Market Ontario and passed away on November 21, 2008 in Drumheller, Alberta with Hazel, his loving wife of thirty-four years, by his side. John was passionate about life and lived his life as large as he was. He was an avid baseball player, coach and was known to cook a mean chili! He loved his family, his friends and his animals. John was a kind and gentle giant who touched the lives of many and was loved by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife Hazel, mother Mary Brillinger, sisters Carol (Kelln) and Brenda (Croft) and brother Bob and their families as well as numerous relatives and friends. He will also be missed by his "furry family": Raven, Marley Bob, Virgil, Lexi, Hawk, Silken and Bella. John is predeceased by his father, Leonard Brillinger and his brother-in-law, Gary Bigelow. A celebration of John's life was held on Friday, November 28 at the Winston Heights Mountview Community Center in Calgary, AB. Mabel Berg
The funeral service for Mabel Berg, aged 95 years, was held from Coventry Funeral Chapel Saturday, November 22, 2008 at 2:00 pm with Reverend Judy MacGillivray officiating. Organist was Eileen Tebbutt. Pallbearers were family members. Interment will be at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to The Arborfield Special Care Home or the Alzheimer's Society. Mabel was born April 26, 1913 in Bromhead to John and Petra Pederson. Two years later sister Hilda was born. Their mother passed away in 1916 and the two small girls were raised by their dad, along with many helpful neighbours. Mabel married Ole Berg in 1933 and they started their family. Ole passed away in 1942 leaving Mabel to raise Marlyn, eight and Carol, five. They moved to Weyburn where life was not easy for Mabel and she worked hard at a number of places. Mabel was later hired as a cook first by SaskPower and then for the Department of Agriculture. Mabel met Ted Bishop and they enjoyed retirement together in Ladysmith, BC. When Ted passed away she moved back to Weyburn to live there near her sister Hilda. Later she moved to Pasquia Place in Carrot River, then to the Arborfield Health Centre for the past few years. Mabel was truly a fun loving soul who loved to laugh and enjoy life. She cherished her family and loved to crochet and knit for each and every one of them. She made a great many friends wherever she was. She was dearly loved and will be missed by all. Mabel was predeceased by her husband Ole and son Marlyn. She leaves a legacy of loving memories for those who knew her. She is survived by her daughter Carol (Tom) and family, her daughter-in-law, Rowena and family, her sister Hilda of Weyburn, brother Cliff of Regina and sisters-in-law Jeannette and Alice of Estevan, also many nieces, nephews and friends.
Jean (John) Bert
Jean (John) Bert passed away on Sunday, December 7th, 2008 at the Regina General Hospital at the age of 81. John was predeceased by his parents, Regis & Marie Bert; brothers & sisters, Joseph, Louis, Marguerite (Henry) Binetruy, sister-in-law, Leona Bert, and brother-in-law, Wallace Hall. John is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Paulette Bert of Radville; children, Lorette (Brian) Thue of Lake Alma, Jeanette (David) Halpenny of Kindersley, Eva (Kim) Oxelgren of Tribune, Deborah Anderson of Weyburn and Rene Bert of Radville; grandchildren, Shauna (Harvey) Hind, Jolene (Troy) Myers, Aaron (Melody) Thue, Amanda (Garon) Pretty, Marlee (Adam) Friedrich, Loran (Jason) Tosczak, Shawn Halpenny, Shawna (Bert) Revesz, Jennifer (James) Wagner, Trina (Jason) Mundy, Travis (Kim) Oxelgren, Adine (Adrian) Enns, Landon and Reed Anderson; great grandchildren, Evan, Alyssa, Courtney, Jared, Karson, Vanessa, Carlene, Ella, Jacob and Dallen; brothers & sisters, Leon (Marie) Bert, Mary (Albert) Cherpin, Alice (Reinhold) Marzinki, and Paul (Monique) Bert; sisters and brothers-in-law: Jeannine Bert (Alphonse Verot), Yvonne Hall, Andre (Marguerite) Vigoureux, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and very special friends, Roy (Rita) Sidloski and Elaine Frederick. John was born on August 10th, 1927 in Souris Valley. He was the fifth child of eight siblings born to Regis and Marie Bert. He received all of his schooling at Green Valley School and was janitor there for many years. He would go to the school early to start the potbelly stove to heat the school. There were many advantages to this job. Whenever he got tired of listening to the teacher, he would go get the pail of coal and put a couple of sawed off shells in it. This probably caused a little excitement and ended school for the day. On November 15, 1950, John married the love of his life, Paulette Vigoureux. They were married at Saint Colette and this was the beginning of 58 wonderful years together. John and Paulette worked hard to make a great life for themselves and their five children. He started farming and bought two quarters from Wilfred Nadeau. He went custom combining down south, and told stories of the long, hot summers, combining for weeks, only to return home to do more combining. This was the making of a lifelong grain farmer. John and his brother, Louis bought their Dad's land and cattle and farmed together for a few years. John remained on the home quarter, and lived on the same farm all of his life. Next year will be 100 years for this family farm, something he was so proud of. In 1996, John's grandson Aaron began renting his land, but John continued to help when he was able. He loved to run the combine, and when his combining was done, he would go see if his son Rene needed any help. There was no way to keep this man from finding his way into the field. When his health began to fail, he was very grateful that with help of his family, he continued to live on the farm that he loved so much. John liked to watch what was happening in the daily farming operations. When he got his scooter, he was always out for tours, seeing what was wrong with the combine, what part they needed, or just to see how much progress was being made. This past harvest, there were two John Deere combines going around the field. John went out to Lorette and Brian's farm to see two combines in action. He was reliving the good old days. John was a great neighbour to the Neptune community and enjoyed when anyone would stop for a visit. He also enjoyed reading the paper and checking out the classified adds. He just couldn't pass up a good deal on a new piece of machinery. Going to auction sales with his friend Roy, and occasionally stopping at the casino on the way home, was always his highlight of the spring. John and Paulette enjoyed many casino trips with friends over the years, but he always looked forward to the weekly winter poker nights. He really knew which cards to play because he usually went home with the big pot. It was a good thing that he won a lot because he had to give his granddaughters some change every time they would bring him a snack. John enjoyed sharing his love of cards with all of his family. He would always have every grandchild crowded around the table trying to watch as he taught them all a new card game. He was so patient and would just sit back and smile when asked if they were playing well. It showed in his eyes that they made him proud. He looked forward to family gatherings to see his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. It was a chance to checkout his granddaughter's boyfriends and sit back to watch his great grandchildren play farm, listen to their stories, and watch the latest magic tricks. His great grandsons thought he was pretty cool because he was an original John Deere man. He had a true passion for life, and he lived every bit of his to the fullest. Not Parkinsons, or any other health problems could ever keep him down for long. John went through many hard times, but always made it through with his family at his side. On December 7th, John held on and made sure that his family was there at his side once again. We miss you, we love you and we will never forget you. A graveside service was held on Friday, December 12 at 11:00 a.m. at Laurier Cemetery, Radville with Fr. Antony Bruno officiating.
