Aileen Mary Erb
Sept. 28th, 1914-Sept. 25th, 2008
It is with great sadness that the family of Aileen Mary Erb announces her death. She passed away peacefully at Parkside Extended Care on Sept. 25th, 2008 with her beloved grandson Greg at her side. Aileen leaves to mourn her children Heather (Hal) Schnare of Saskatoon, Richard (Joy) Erb of Yellow Grass, grandchildren Greg Lynch of Regina, Colleen (Marcel) Asselin of Regina, Clark (Kari) Erb of Weyburn and Sonya Erb of Calgary, and great-grandchildren, Annabel and Samuel Asselin and Rylan and Raya Erb. She was predeceased by her loving husband Roy in 1993 and parents Joseph and Annie Irvine. Aileen enjoyed a full and happy life. Her childhood was spent on her parents' farm at Yellow Grass. In 1936 she married her childhood sweetheart Roy and together they raised their children and farmed until 1977 when they moved to the town of Yellow Grass. Aileen was a devoted wife, mother,grandmother and great-grandmother. Aileen was a gifted artist who took great enjoyment in scrap booking, chronicling the history of the community which was very dear to her. Aileen was a member of the Eastern Star and of the Yellow Grass United Church. She was active in the Golden Harvest Drop-In Centre and the Lilac Group of the United Church until she moved to Regina in 2005. She loved to play bridge and tend to her flower garden. The funeral service was held on Monday Sept. 29th, 2008 at 2:00 pm at the Yellow Grass United Lutheran Church, Yellow Grass, SK with interment to follow in the Yellow Grass Cemetery, Yellow Grass. The Active Pallbearers were Robert Dreger, Brian Erb, Harvey Staseson, Howard Belleveau, Gary Freitag and Blaine Steer. Douglas Earl McNaughton
On Wednesday, October 8th, 2008, Douglas Earl McNaughton passed away at the Radville Marian Health Centre at the age of 77 years. Predeceased by his parents, Robert and Hazel McNaughton; a sister, Joyce Hennessy, a brother, Alan McNaughton, a sister-in-law, Clara Paul and brothers-in-law, Keith Paul and Lee Hennessy. Doug will be lovingly remembered by his wife Alice McNaughton of Radville and their four children: Brenda (Glyne) Thompson of Saskatoon, Bruce (Maria) McNaughton of Regina, Christine (Renald) Mazenc of Radville, and Twyla Jane McNaughton of Regina; eight grandchildren: Shannon, Nathan and Carmen Thompson, Ian and Nolan McNaughton, Ryan, Brandon and Orin Mazenc; one sister, Rosemary McNaughton of Toronto, ON; sisters-in-law, Bertha Sagmoen of Barrhead, AB and Ruth (Gerry) Prost of Weyburn; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Douglas Earl McNaughton was born February 13, 1931 at Sec 11, Twp 6, Rge 8 W-2, near Radville, the third child of four children born to Hazel and Robert McNaughton. He was raised on the family farm four miles west of Radville. Doug helped out with farming early due to his father's ill health. He attended public school at Alstine School from grades one to eight, then high school at Radville Public School. He took a refridgeration course in Chicago, Illinois after high school. He was self taught in many areas including electronics, engineering, computer technology and photography. After completing the refridgeration course in Chicago, he worked at Clark's Electric in Radville. Later he worked on a seismograph crew with an oil company in Alberta. After his father's death, he helped his brother with the family farm. At the same time he worked as a rural telephone lineman for various districts. Later he formed his own construction company with Rudolf Bjork, R and D Construction, building overhead lines and later burying cable. On July 16, 1954 Douglas married Alice Marstead of the Abbott District in the Radville United Church, Radville. In 1977 he began working for SaskTel as a lineman. He farmed half on the McNaughton homestead during these years as well. He retired from SaskTel and farming in 1984. Doug had many diverse interests and hobbies. He loved to work with electronics and computers. He was keenly interested in aviation and even got his pilot's license. He loved astronomy, as a young teenager he made his own telescope. He invented many things to help him in work and play. He was an avid still and moving image photographer. He also enjoyed literature and philosophy. Both Doug and his wife, Alice enjoyed travelling. They travelled throughout North America, including Alaska and Mexico. In 1977, they went to Australia, Hawaii and Fiji. Doug loved to play cards and enjoyed puzzles and games. He played many card games growing up on the farm with friends and neighbours. He continued to play as an adult with friends after work. He was always ready to help his friends and neighbours. He wired homes for electricity when Sask Power first came to rural communities. Doug helped many friends and family with various other projects. For 47 years, Doug and Alice lived on the farm on land where his father Robert and his uncle Bill first homesteaded. In 2000, due to Doug's ill health, they moved to Weyburn. They continued to spend time on the farm during the summers. Doug and Alice celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in 2004 with family and friends. Doug loved his family and passed on many valuable traits and lessons to his children and grandchildren. He had a strong work ethic he told his children to always do their best at whatever they chose to do. He and Alice made a point of travelling to see extended family and kept close ties to brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews. He was a kind and generous friend. He will be sadly missed by all who knew him and loved him. A Memorial Service was held Monday, October 13th at 2:00 p.m. from Radville United Church, Radville with Pastor Kathy Gudnason officiating. Interment followed in Laurier Cemetery, Radville. Donations may be made in memory of Doug to the Radville Marian Health Centre or the Canadian Cancer Society. Barry Spencer
The family of Barry sadly announce his passing. After enduring three heart attacks he was tragically taken from us on October 11th, 2008 in a motor vehicle accident. He leaves to mourn his passing and celebrate his live, his loving wife of 47 years, Alma, son Mike (Marnel) of Weyburn, daughter Sheryl of Saskatoon and son Brad (Miranda) of Weyburn. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren; Shayla (Kale) of Regina, Dylan, Alyssa, Payton and Sydney of Weyburn and one great-grandson Carwyn of Regina. He also leaves sisters and brothers-in-law Carol Spencer, Lynn and Ron Rogal and Walt and Judy Ledingham and a host of nieces, nephews and relatives and friends. Barry Garth was born April 29th, 1940 at a farm in the Worchester area. His parents Ken and Leila Spencer lived north of Weyburn. In 1948, at the age of eight, he lost his father to a heart attack, and in 1989, his mother passed away. In the fall of 1946, Barry started school at Talmage. Except for the odd bout of hay fever, Barry enjoyed life out on the farm. In 1951, when Barry was eleven his mother moved to teach at Ingleford. Part way through grade eleven he accepted a job at Barber Motors. He and his best pal Louis Woodard boarded together for three years until he married his sweetheart Alma on September 2nd, 1961. Barry continued to work for Barbers for 10 years. He attended technical school in Moose Jaw with friend Stan Baird, ultimately receiving their journeyman papers. In 1968, he became a driving instructor, working rural areas around Weyburn. One year later a business opportunity came up at junction Shell Service Station across from the El Rancho. After seven years he sold the business to Dale Johnson, working with him for one year before returning to Barber Motors as a car salesman. With more time on his hands he became involved with recreational hockey and served as president on the Weyburn Minor Hockey Association. After four years as a salesman at Barbers, at the request of Shell Canada, Barry took over the operation of junction Shell Service again operating it until 1985. Soon after he decided to build Redcoat Auto and Tire Service and operated it successfully until 1989. Barry then became a partner in Redcoat Plymouth Chrysler until his retirement in 1999. After retirement Barry found more time to take part in the various clubs and organizations that he belonged to. He was a member of the Kinsmen, K-40 Club, Rotary, Masons, Elks and Legion. Barry enjoyed golfing and curling and he coached ball and hockey. Although his sports kept him busy he always found time with his grandchildren and their activities. Barry was a long time member of Grace United Church. His love for music inspired him to join the church choir, variations, men's mixed chorus as well as various solo acts. Barry's love for traveling took him and his family on many camping trips. Since retirement, Barry and Alma have done extensive traveling, with Barry's favorite stop being Mexico. Anyone who knew Barry knew he was a true Willie Nelson fan. He had been a fan club member for many years. His CD collection ranges in the hundred and he even attended over a dozen of Willie's concerts in North America. Funeral Services were held on Friday, October 17th, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. from Grace United Church with Reverand Barnabas officiating. Interment was at Hillcrest Cemetery. Edith Donalda Laliberte
On Sunday, October 5, 2008, Edith Donalda Laliberte of Ogema, Sask. passed away in Regina at the age of 87 years. Edith was predeceased by her parents, Mary and William Daley; her husband Edgar Laliberte in 1990, brothers and sisters: Clara Harrison, William Daley, Victoria Erickson, Mary Linton, Olivia Stewart, Gordon Daley, Florence Preece and Ruth Wilson. Edith will be lovingly remembered by her son, Randy (Deanne) Laliberte of Balgonie and grandsons, Travis and Tanner Laliberte; as well as numerous in-laws, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Edith was born April 24, 1921 on a farm north of Amulet, Sask to Mary and William Daley. She had six sisters and two brothers, they were a very close family. She received all her schooling at Amulet, School. Edith loved music and she taught herself to play the guitar. She met Edgar Joseph Laliberte at a dance and they were married November 9th, 1943 at Amulet. She became a farm wife and then the "World's Best Mom" when their son, Randy was born. Edith was a member of the Bures Ladies Aide, the U.C.W., and many community organizations such as the Red Cross, Dance Clubs like the Glasnevin Twirlers. She held strong political beliefs and worked for the CCF and NDP parties. She also drove the School Bus. Edith enjoyed playing her guitar as well as square dancing, round dancing and singing. Old Time dances were her favorite. They lived on the farm 15 miles north of Ogema during the summer months and resided in Bures during the winter. They spent two winters in Vancouver, and moved to Ogema in 1975, where she continued to be involved with community groups. She was a member of the Ogema United Church, singing in the choir for many decades, was a leader in the UCW at Ogema and organized many of the lunches and meals for many funerals and other functions. Edith was a strong, dignified lady with solid moral family values. She lead by example and gave of herself for the betterment of others. Funeral Services were held Thursday, October 9th at 1:00 p.m. from the Ogema United Church, Ogema with Rev. Sylvia Fitzgerald officiating. Interment followed in Amulet Cemetery, Amulet. The Honorary Pallbearers were: Mary Iverson, Barry Hingtgen, Jerry Tondevold, Joe Hompoth, Don McCracken, Harold Tidlund and Don McCowan. The Active Pallbearers were her nephews: Larry Wilson, Rick Daley, Darcy Barth, Gordon Stewart, Donald Linton and Edgar Siljer. Valerie (Nessel) Kot
Valerie (Nessel), age 80, passed away peacefully Friday, October 10, 2008 after a courageous fight with cancer. She is predeceased by her first husband, Adam Nessel; second husband, Bernard Kot; parents, Helen and Joe Kopec; and her brother, Valentine Kopec of Weyburn, SK. Valerie is lovingly remembered by her two children, Pam (Greg) Wenzel, Kyle and Jordan of Cochrane, AB; and Curtis (Wendy) Nessel, Brad and Scott of Saskatoon. Vigil for Valerie was held on Thursday, October 16 at 7:00 p.m. at Park Funeral Chapel, 311 Third Avenue North, Saskatoon. The Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday, October 17, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Roman Catholic Cathedral, corner of Spadina Crescent East and 22nd Street East, Saskatoon, celebrated by the Very Rev. Svea Flaten
Svea Flaten (Soderberg) passed away peacefully at Tatagwa View, Weyburn, on Monday night, October 20, 2008, at the age of 103. Svea was predeceased by her father, August Soderberg in 1942 and mother, Augusta Soderberg in 1946, husband, Nels Flaten in 1959, brothers: Gunnar in 1983, Yngve in 1960, Sigurd in 1991, son-in-law, Herbert Warden in 2002, son, Glenn Flaten in 2007 and granddaughter, Diane Hansen-Hood in 2007. Svea is survived by her four children: Norman (Vie), Audrey Wilson (Fred), Delbert (Doris) and Beverly Hansen (Don), daughter-in-law Shirley Flaten, 18 grandchildren and 39 great grandchildren. Svea was born in Dalesburg, South Dakota, USA in 1905. She moved with her parents to the Yeoman District, 18 miles southwest of Weyburn in 1907. The family operated a farm and a threshing outfit. Svea became quite familiar with driving horses, milking cows and assisting her mother with the housework. Svea started school in Rockfield and later came to Souris school in Weyburn. She continued to work on the farm with her parents and brothers until she met Nels, who had recently arrived from Norway. They were married at her parents' home in 1925. They had a diversified farming operation with grain, pigs, chickens, cattle, sheep, horses and Shetland ponies. They managed to survive the depression years with a lot of hard work, determination and self sufficient food production as her diaries attest. She faithfully kept a diary of her life from 1924 to 2006. Their door was always open for friends, neighbors or any passerby who happened to stop in for coffee or a meal. Many of those years without the aid of electrical power or appliances. Transportation in the winter was by horseback, team and sleigh, or maybe once a month on the train from Clearfield Station to Weyburn. Along with raising a family of five children, she managed to sew their clothes, plant a large garden, can fruits, vegetables, jams and meat. Additional income was acquired by selling butter and eggs to the townspeople. Svea moved to Saskatoon for a couple years after Nels died and then bought a house in Weyburn in 1961 and lived there for 39 years. She provided room and board for several nurses, teachers, and hockey players during this time. She also became involved with the Hospital Auxiliary, North Weyburn Homemakers, Pioneer Place Auxiliary and Harmony Circle church unit. Having 19 grandchildren provided many opportunities to babysit over the years. She loved to travel and visited many counties. Included in these were Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii, England, Fiji, Bermuda, USA and Germany. Her last trip being to Barbados with all five children and their spouses in 1999. After her hip surgery she was unable to manage in her house, so she moved into Crocus Villa and later into Tatagwa View. We would like to thank her many caregivers for their devoted service over the past eight years. Funeral service was held at Grace United Church, Weyburn, on Saturday, October 25. with Rev. Mohandas Barnabas officiating. The Active Pallbearers were her grandsons: Murray Flaten, Brad Warden, Brent Flaten, Doug Warden, Chris Hansen and Gary Flaten. Joseph Herlick
It is with great sadness that on October 16, 2008 Joseph Herlick suddenly passed away. Joseph was predeceased by his son Bradley, parents Anthony and Mary Herlick, father and mother-in-law Leroy and Ruth Hunstad, brother Frank Herlick, sister Veronica (Elmer) Furho, brothers-in-law Ted Koszman and Lionel Hunstad, sister-in-law Jean Thompson. Joseph is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Betty Herlick, children: Ron (Deb) Herlick and family Shandel, Devon, Tyson; Lorrie (Doug) Ashworth and family, Venessa, Natasha, Patricia, Deirdra; Donna (Bill) Axten and children Robert, Amanda, Christopher; Don (Donalda) Herlick and family Tanner, Kennedy; Dianne (Ray) Dee-Herlick and family Dustin, RJ; Darcy (Nikki) Herlick and family Taylor, Brooke, Darien; two sisters Anna (William) Koszman, Bertha Koszman, sisters-in-law; Christine Herlick and Karen Hunstad; brother-in-law Al Thompson; and numerous nieces and nephews. Joseph was born on November 30, 1933 on the homestead quarter which is located just 2 miles south of his farm. He attended Greendale School, completing his grade 8. He stayed at home to farm with his dad. After the passing of his father in 1956 he continued to farm and have a cattle operation, but worked on the oil rigs for the winter months. He bought his first tractor in 1960, an 830 John Deere. He actively farmed with his brother Frank Herlick for many years until the sons became more involved and then they spread out on their own. It is fair to say that Joe lived his life doing what he loved to do. Joe's health declined over recent years and he eventually endured two bypass surgeries, the last of which was in February of this year. He defied the odds and had what turned out to be eight more months of life on the farm and in the community. Joe will always be remembered for his smile, his sense of humor, and his joking around with family and friends. Prayers were held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Tribune on Sunday, October 19th, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass was held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Tribune on Monday, October 20th, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. with Father Gerry Bauche celebrant. All of Joseph's grandchildren were Pallbearers. A private family interment followed at Tribune Cemetery. Kathleen "Kay" Margaret (nee Snitzler) Linnen
Linnen, Kathleen "Kay" Margaret (nee Snitzler). Late of Regina, SK, born June 22, 1918 at Riceton, passed away Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at the age of 90. Kay was predeceased by her parents, Michael and Clara (Holwell) Snitzler; husband, Rea Linnen; three sisters: Marie (Fred) Seibel, Evelyn (John Lesley) Mossauer and Marjorie Cornwell; four brothers: Albert Snitzler, Leonard Snitzler, Stan (Elaine) Snitzler and Edward (Betty) Snitzler. She is survived by two sons: Cliff (Diana) Linnen and Wayne (Josie) Linnen; six grandchildren: Brad (Stacey) Linnen, Christine (Rob) Roflik, Jennifer (Wayne) Patterson, Jacqueline (Fred) Curts, Sheri Linnen (Friend, Rob Chong) and Kevin (Brandy) Linnen; fourteen great grandchildren: Kimberly, Christopher, Emily and Bridgett Linnen, Marcus and Carter Roflik, Katie and Abbey Patterson, Rebecca, Nolan and Jessica Curts, Crystal Linnen (Fiancee, Tyler Laviolette), Levi and Dennis Linnen; one great, great granddaughter, Vanessa Laviolette; one brother-in-law, Roy Cornwell; and one sister-in-law, Mabel Linnen. Kay married Rea Linnen on October 21, 1936 and farmed at Francis until 1979. They later moved to Weyburn in 1994 where they enjoyed chatting and coffeeing with friends until Rea passed away on October 11, 2003. Kay moved in July 2006 with grandson, Kevin, Brandy and Levi Linnen until December 23, 2006 in which she moved into Regina at Lily Rose Apt. in which son Wayne (Josie) Linnen managed, until her passing away. A Visitation for family and friends was held on Monday, October 20, at 10:00 a.m. in the Victoria Avenue Funeral Home, 2080 East Victoria Avenue, Regina with the funeral service following at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Jack Bridal, officiating. Interment followed in Regina Memorial Gardens. Edith May Bowers
Edith May Bowers, late of Weyburn, passed away Monday, October 20, 2008 in the Weyburn General Hospital at the age of 70 years. She was predeceased by her father and mother, Norman and Irene Worrall; her loving husband and best friend, Dave in 1997 and her son Dale in 2005. Edith will be lovingly remembered by her children: son, Dan (Carolyn) Bowers of Regina, daughter, Debbie Coroluick of Redcliff, AB, daughter-in-law, Joleen Bowers of Bengough, son, Tim (Tracy) Bowers of Weyburn, and daughter, Tammy (Gary) Cooper of Medicine Hat, AB; grandchildren: Shaun, Krista, Terry, Joanna, Rodney, Aaron, Ashley, Ryan and Kaitlin; sisters: Shirley Parisien of Regina, and Doris (Art) Jaworski of Weyburn; special cousin, Carol (Terry) Dawes of Fairmont, BC and sister-in-law, Mary Pietsch of Calgary, AB; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Edith was born and raised in Weyburn. In 1958 she married David Bowers and started their family. In 1960 they moved to Ogema, where they established a plumbing business and raised five children. While there, Edith was active in the community, joining the Rebekah Lodge, working at the library, enjoying her time with her good friends over a cup of coffee and a game of cards. In 1986, due to Dave's ill health, they moved to Weyburn where Edith became coordinator at the Kinsmen Senior Centre. Edith enjoyed organizing various activities including bingo, bus tours and crib tournaments. After retiring, Edith enjoyed her casino trips with friends, visiting family and spending time with her grandchildren. At the time of her passing she resided at Legion Towers where she will leave behind numerous friends she made there. Edith will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Funeral service was held Friday, October 24 at 2:00 p.m. from Fletcher Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, with Rev. Barnabas officiating. Interment followed in Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn. The Active Pallbearers were: Terry Dawes, Terry Bowers, Calvin McCormick, Art Jaworski, Jimmy Jaworski and Phillip Parisien. Members of Alexandria Rebakah Lodge formed an Honor Guard.
