Marianne Hiebert
August 20, 1942 – September 27, 2012
Marianne Alice Hiebert (nee) Epp left us to be with her Lord and Saviour on the morning of September 27, 2012 after a lengthy and extremely courageous battle with cancer at the young age of 70. Marianne was born on August 20, 1942 in Laird, Saskatchewan. She is survived by her best friend and husband of 51 years, Henry Hiebert, sons Daryl (Lynn) and Brian (Myrna), and daughter Jan (Debbie), as well as grandchildren Olivia, Amie, Kaylee, Teagan, Levi, Ashley, Lynzie, Cooper and Beckett, and great grand children Danon, Treyton, Hanna, Ethan, Danaya, and Jersey. Marianne is also survived by her sister Grace (Mel) and sister-in-law Lillian. Predeceased by her parents Henry and Nettie Epp and brother Don. As teenagers we remember mom and dad going to our cabin at Chitek Lake every single weekend to do “paperwork” for our family business. We were all quite sure they just wanted more time alone at the cabin, as our family cabin was one of their favourite places to be. Memories of hundreds of trips to the cabin, with mom’s last fish being caught on August 6th. She was so excited. Many of mom and dad’s winters were spent driving in their motorhome down to Mazatlan to spend time in the warm sun and have wonderful visits with their “adopted daughter” Imelda and her family. As much as diamonds were a favourite of moms, she loved ball diamonds the most. Cherished memories of “mama cheese” keeping stats and managing the Marauders, the Darkroom and DBJ Leasing softball teams with her cohort Phyllis will never be forgotten. Dad wanted to spend as much time as possible with mom, so he flew down to Florida to buy a wheelchair van just so he could drive her anywhere she wanted to go. They made numerous trips to some of mom’s favourite restaurants – The Berry Barn, Mr. Rizos and the Station Place and the Osler Restaurant. Mom had many health issues and we were blessed with the numerous health care teams that worked hard to give us more time with mom. The Saskatoon Cancer Centre, SPH Renal Unit, University of Alberta Hospital, and Parkridge Centre played such an integral part in giving her great care. There are too many health care providers to mention, but you know who you are and we thank you. As much as mom touched your hearts, you certainly touched hers. In lieu flowers, donations can be made to the Lymphoma and Leukemia Society, the Saskatoon Cancer Centre or the Mennonite Central Committee. In addition, mom’s hope was for organ donor awareness. Signing your organ donor card would mean so much to her. Condolences can be sent to jhiebert49@shaw.ca. A time of viewing and remembrance with the family will be held on Tuesday, October 2 at 7:00 pm at Mount Royal Mennonite Church. The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at 11:00 am at Mount Royal Mennonite Church, 610 Avenue O North, Saskatoon. Interment will take place at Laird Cemetery. Arrangements are in care of Funk’s Funeral Home, Rosthern, SK.
