December 4, 1924 – August 10, 2007
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lloyd Phillips. He entered the presence of the Lord, peacefully at home after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
Lloyd is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Marie and children of the marriage, Lorne Genest (Marion) and Suzanne Kolody of Saskatoon, and Bonnie Johnston (Michael) of Swift Current, 10 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; two brothers, Gerald (Ruth) of Calgary and Wayne (Joan) of Kelliher.
He was predeceased by his first wife, Olive; his parents, Ernest and Matilda; and two brothers, George and Harry.
Lloyd was a WWII Veteran of the Armed Forces Artillery.
He fought overseas in France, Germany, Holland and Great Britain. He was a member of the Legion TVS Branch No. 78 for 60 years. Lloyd started working at Weldon’s Concrete, where later he and two other employees bought the company. After many successful years they sold it and retired. Lloyd and Marie were married April 10, 1973. They spent many joyous years traveling, the most special place being Hawaii as they returned often. They loved to dance. They square danced for 33 years and round danced for 15 years. They also enjoyed belonging to the Wandering Wheels Trailer Club. Lloyd liked many activities including tennis, carpet bowling, curling, cards and biking. He loved his home and yard spending countless hours enjoying gardening, birds and nature. His greatest treasure was family and friends with the joy of everyone being together. For those who knew him he will be remembered as a kind, gentle, wonderful man always ready to lend a helping hand.
The Vigil for Lloyd will be held on Wednesday, August 15, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, August 16, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. Both services will be held at the St. John Bosco Roman Catholic Church, 1202 Avenue O South, Saskatoon, SK with Very Rev. Fr. Ron Beechinor as celebrant. Committal of ashes will take place in the Field of Honour at Woodlawn Cemetery, Saskatoon, SK.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Lloyd’s name may be made to the St. John Bosco Roman Catholic Parish.

Stanley Howard Olson
December 11, 1948 – August 10, 2007
We are truly saddened to announce the passing of Stan Olson on August 10, 2007 at the age of 58 years. He died peacefully at St. Paul’s Hospital with his family by his side.
Stan is survived by his loving wife of 37 years, Karen; son, Jeff; daughter, Shelley (Colby) Hepburn and granddaughter, Tianna. He is also survived by his parents, Eric and Clara Olson of Saskatoon; brother, Ken (Marlene) Olson of Saskatoon, SK; three sisters, Ruth (Harvey) Amundson of Park Valley, SK, Phyllis (Ovide Pilon) Olson of Saskatoon, SK, and Joyce (Albert) Perillat of Saskatoon, SK; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Stan was born on December 11, 1948 in Prince Albert, SK, and later moved to Saskatoon to begin his career.
He retired from SaskTel after 30 years and was presently employed at St. Martin’s United Church as church custodian.
Stan’s confidence as a handyman was often shared with family and friends.
He always had a solution for anything, from a simple auto repair to a complete basement renovation.
Stan also had a creative gift, which he expressed through poetry, writing songs, and playing musical instruments.
His sense of humour continued despite his frustrating struggle with amyloidosis.
Stan will be truly missed but never forgotten.
A Visitation will be held for family and friends on Monday, August 13, 2007 from 8:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home.
The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, August 14, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. officiated by Rev. Michael Webster.
The visitation and funeral service will be held in the Chapel of Hillcrest Funeral Home (east on 8th street, turn right before the railway track), Saskatoon, SK.
A private family interment service will take place on Wednesday, August 15, 2007 at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.
Memorial donations, in Stan’s name, made to the St. Martin’s United Church, 2617 Clarence Avenue South, Saskatoon, SK, S7J 1M5, will be graciously acknowledged by the family.
Mr. Bill Ewashko
June 4, 1937 - August 20, 2007
Ewashko – Bill (William) of Prince Albert passed away peacefully on August 20, 2007.
Dad was born on June 4, 1937 in Marcambe, Alberta.
Bill married Doris (Bremner) on August 27, 1960 and then moved to Prince Albert in 1961 to start their life together.
Bill worked at Carlton Comprehensive High School for a number of years, and then was self-employed for over 20 years until he retired in 1999.
Bill then was also the Manager of the Prince Albert Farmer’s Market until his passing.
Bill was a very dedicated family man who loved to take part in his children and grandchildren’s lives.
Bill was very much a people person who enjoyed the fellowship of others whether it be helping someone with a “project” or sitting down for a cup of coffee and a chat.
Bill is survived by his wife, one week short of their 47th wedding anniversary Doris (Bremner); two daughters Wanda (John) Pruden, Debbie (Doug) Billings and three sons Robert, Roger, Michael; his grandchildren Amanda, Kayla, Cassandra, Nicole, Christa, Andrew, Tia, Matthew and Samantha; four brothers Pete, Mike, Steve, Tony, three sisters Annie, Sadie, Nelsie as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Paul and Katie; two brothers Andrew and John; one sister Mary; his wife’s parents John & Josephine Bremner.
Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 25 at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, 260-25th Street East by the Reverend Father Matthew Nguyen.
Interment of cremated remain will take place at the Garden of Memories, Prince Albert Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.

William Kalynka
December 14, 1922 - August 20, 2007
KALYNKA – The family of William Kalynka are saddened to announce his peaceful passing, with his daughters by his side, on August 20th, 2007.
His memory will live on with his son Donald; daughters Bernadette (William) Hoffman and their children Brandy, Blayne and Brett (Chantelle); great grandsons Jaydn and Jayce; Audrey (Robert) Kondraczynski and their children Laura and Simon.
He was predeceased by his wife Rose; brother John; sister Mary and parents Sophie and Dmytro.
William (Bill) was born in the Meacham district on December 14th, 1922 and attended Trojan School, until at the age of 15, he went to work for different farmers in the area.
He later worked at Intercontinental Packers but his real love was farming.
On January 24th, 1948 he married Rose Drabinasty and in 1950 they settled in the Elstow district where he farmed until he was 80 years old.
Bill was involved in the community and lent a helping hand wherever it was needed.
Bill was an avid fisherman and looked forward to the annual fishing trips with family/friends to Clarke Lake.
He always caught the first, the biggest and the most fish.
He enjoyed playing cards, curling, traveling and dancing in earlier years and reminiscing about the “Good old days”.
Family and friends were very important to him. Bill loved to laugh and always enjoyed a good joke or funny story.
A special thank you to all the Angels, staff and friends at Circle Drive Special Care Home who gave Dad a wonderful three years.
A Prayer Service will be held on Friday, August 24th, 2007 at 7:00 p.m.
Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, August 25th, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Taras Makowsky officiating.
Both services will take place at Hillcrest Funeral Home (east on 8th Street, turn right before railway tracks). Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens.

Esther Markin
January 22, 1923 - August 20, 2007
MARKIN – Esther Freda passed away at Royal University Hospital on August 20th, 2007 and entered into the presence of her Lord and Saviour.
She was born on January 22nd, 1923 in Congress, SK., to Edward Peter and Emilia Engel.
The family then resided on the farm close to Woodrow, SK.
She met John Stanley Markin in Moose Jaw where they were married on November 5th, 1948 and shortly thereafter moved to Saskatoon where they have resided since.
She was predeceased by her parents, four brothers, three sisters, and an infant son Kenneth Darryl.
Esther is survived by her husband of 58 years, John; her daughter Calleen DeKok (Bob); granddaughter Chelsea Thiessen (Graham), all of Saskatoon; brother Bud Peter (Jeanette) of Woodrow and several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the doctors and nurses at RUH Emergency and 6300 for caring for her in her last days.
Special thanks are extended to the staff at the Ilarion Residence for their support and dedication to our mother.
We are saddened by her loss, but rejoice that she has now begun a life that will have no end.
In lieu of flowers, gifts made to the Christian & Missionary Alliance Global Advance Fund in care of Erindale Alliance Church (310 Perehudoff Crescent, Saskatoon, SK. S7N 4H1) in memory of Esther would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
A private family graveside service will take place at Hillcrest Funeral Home with arrangements entrusted to Dawn Engel.
