GENE MYKYTIW

Eugene “Gene” Walter Mykytiw of Moose Jaw, passed away peacefully with family at his side on February 8, 2011 at the age of 72. Gene came to Moose Jaw in 1959 with his family and they bought the Cecil Hotel which they operated until 1975 when it was destroyed by fire. He continued in the hospitality industry throughout his life with the Park Lodge. Even in retirement, Gene combined his love of golf with the hospitality industry by leasing and operating the Hillcrest Restaurant & Lounge. Gene was a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Kinsmen & K40, and was very active in promoting tourism in Moose Jaw. He was quick to smile and will be remembered for that amazing smile. Predeceased by his father Walter, and brother George. Gene will be sadly missed by his wife, Janet; daughters Angela Mykytiw, Zoe Mykytiw, Tanis (Derek) Hicks; and son Chad (Renee) Coles; grandchildren, Avery, Brodie, Ainsley, and Andon; his mother Mary; brother Larry (Gail); nephew Tie; as well as numerous other relatives and friends. A celebration of Gene’s life will be planned for the spring. For those so wishing, memorials to a charity of one’s choice would be appreciated. In living memory of Gene, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

OLGA DUNN

Olga Dunn, 94 years, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2010 at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital. Olga is survived by her niece Lila (Mervin) Wareham and family, and also by nephew Maurice (Cheryl) Prest and family; and many great-nieces and nephews. In keeping with Olga’s wishes, the family will hold a private farewell. She will be dearly missed by her family. Memorial donations to the Sask.Heart & Stroke Foundation, 279 3rd Ave. N., Saskatoon, S7K 2H8, would be appreciated. In living memory of Olga, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

ANDREW WILLIAM MORBERG

Andrew William Morberg of Moose Jaw went away January 21, 2011 at the age of 22. Andrew was born and raised in Whitehorse, Yukon and spent some time in Edmonton, AB before coming to Moose Jaw. Andrew loved swimming, sports and especially bike riding. Andrew will be sadly missed by his mom, Norma Jean and dad Keith Stangland; brothers, Freddy and Buddy Henry; grandparents Joan and Watson George; as well as many numerous other relatives and friends. A Celebration of Andrew’s life will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel Thursday January 27, 2011 at 1:30pm. Della Ferguson will officiate. For those so wishing memorial donations can be made the Moose Jaw Transition House.
In living memory of Andrew, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

IDA SCOTT

Ida Scott, passed away July 5, 2010. Ida was born on March 5, 1928 on the family farm at Richie, SK, the fifth child of Adam and Alice Cleveland. She attended Desmond School, four miles south of the homestead. Ida left school at 15 and went to work at the Ceylon Hotel in Ceylon, SK as a chambermaid. She left Ceylon at 18 and went to work for a family in Weyburn as a caregiver and housekeeper. She worked there until she was 20 and then got a job working for Beth and Martin Foley in Harptree, SK. While working for the Foley’s she met Calder Scott and they were married on October 28, 1949. They resided on the Scott family farm after their marriage. They moved to Moose Jaw in 1960, where they raised their young family and Ida worked as a cleaning lady for many people and businesses. She retired from work in 1987 to take care of her ailing husband who passed away shortly after she retired. Ida is predeceased by her husband Calder in 1987, sons Ronald Allan in 1957 and Neal Lawrence in 1983, daughter Maxine Jane in 1961; brothers Cameron, Walter and Leslie Cleveland; and son-in-law Bob Buchholz. She is survived by her children: Alice Buchholz, Darlene (Rick) Smolak, Tom (Marilyn) Scott, Ida (Garth) Rousell, Elaine (Darrell) Kohl; sixteen grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren; brothers Melvin – Bengough, Herbie – Brooks, AB, twin sister Edna and sister Isabell – Bengough; many nieces and nephews, and a special friend Dick Schanowski. The Funeral Service will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Thursday July 8, 2010 at 10:30 am. Della Ferguson will officiate. Interment will follow at the family plot Rosedale Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will take place Wednesday evening 7 – 9 pm at the Funeral Home. Memorials to the Alzheimer Association, #301 – 2550 12th Ave., Regina, S4P 3X1, would be appreciated. In living memory of Ida, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

JACK DEVINE

Born August 21, 1935 and passed away Saturday, July 12, 2003. Dad was predeceased by the love of his life - his wife Pat in 1995, his parents Kay and Bill, and his siblings Eileen, Don and Yvonne. Dad was survived by his children - Pam (Kent) Clelland, Dan Devine (Donna), and Sandy Devine (Ken); Grandchildren - Tara and John Clelland, and Carly and Angie Devine; sisters-in-law - Donna Dunn and Bette Devine, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Dad’s life was enjoyed by his love of family, farming and sports - mainly baseball and in the later years - golf. Many pleasurable winter years were spent in Arizona golfing and socializing with friends and in the summer at his retirement home in Elbow. Visitation for family and friends will be held Thursday, July 17, 2003, 7-9 p.m. at the W. J. Jones and Son Funeral Home, 106 Athabasca St. E. A Celebration of Dad’s life will be held Friday, July 18, 2003 at 1:30 p.m. at the Hillcrest Apostolic Church, 1550 Main St. N., Moose Jaw. Della Ferguson will officiate. Flowers most gratefully declined, people so wishing, may make a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Alzheimer’s Society of Saskatchewan. In living memory of Jack, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

THOMAS "BUD" GRIFFITHS

THOMAS ARTHUR (BUD) GRIFFITHS passed away on Monday, April 19, 2004 after a short illness at the age of 69 years. Predeceased by his parents, Thomas Arthur and Rose in 1979; sisters: Corrine Storm and Dorothy Rozon and an infant daughter, Cheryl Anne. He is survived by his wife, Sylvia, daughter, Starla; sons: Blaine (Sandee), Steve (Marie) and grandchildren: Hailey, Jennifer and Ryan, his sister, Linda (LeRoy Hardy) as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Bud retired from CP Railway in 1988 after thirty-four years of service as an Engineer and had been a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers (BLE). Bud was a twenty-five year Associate Member of the Royal Canadian Legion and was an avid Bingo player. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 24, 2004 at 3:00 p.m. in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, Moose Jaw. Reverend Frank Mitchell will officiate. Royal Canadian Legion Funeral Rites will be conducted at the chapel by Roscoe Steele, Moose Jaw Branch #59. Memorialization will take place at a later time. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Saskatchewan Heart & Stroke Foundation, The Canadian Diabetes Association or to a charity of one’s choice. In living memory of Thomas, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

BRUCE AUSTIN

It is with great sadness we announce the passing of Bruce Albert Austin on Friday December 10, 2010 at the age of sixty-five years. Born December 20, 1944 at Moose Jaw in Providence Hospital, the third son of Ralph and Bernice Austin. He grew up in the Parkbeg District, went to Edgehill School, and later bused to Mortlach. Bruce took the mechanics course at S.T.I. and worked as a mechanic in Vancouver, Regina, and here in Moose Jaw for Austin Service until his retirement. He loved to fix cars and trucks of any make or model. For a short period of time he worked at Kalium as a maintenance man until his health failed. In his early days he enjoyed all sports. Having good times with many friends was a highlight and from that got his nickname “Hosie”. Bruce liked to watch the Blue Jay’s baseball games, listen to the Warrior games. Family functions were never dull with all his stories, he loved to have fun and visit with everyone. Predeceased by his Dad, Ralph and his grandparents. He is survived by sons, Darren (Coreen), Jason (Shelby), Cody and Kyle; two grandchildren, Jack and Charlotte; his mother Bernice; brothers, Ralph (Bev), Gordon (Elaine), Allan, Doug (Linda); his sister Cindy (Greg) Nilson; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and friends. A Memorial Service in remembrance of Bruce will be held at the St. Andrew’s Social Hall – 60 Athabasca St. E. Moose Jaw on Thursday December 16, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. Pastor Marvin Seaborg will officiate. Cremation with Memorialization will take place at Rosedale Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Saskatchewan Heart and Stroke Foundation, 279 3rd Ave. N. Saskatoon, Saskatchewan S7K 2H8. In living memory of Bruce, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.
