Emily Eleda passed away peacefully at Extendicare Nursing Home in Moose Jaw on Tuesday, January 12, 2011 in her 94th year. Emily was born in Canora, SK, August 17, 1916 but grew up on a farm near Star City, SK. Emily married Victor Myers in Star City on April 25, 1938. Emily and Victor resided in Weyburn until August of 1959 and at that time moved to Moose Jaw, where they lived until their passing. Emily leaves to cherish her memory, three daughters Marilyn Haffner - Fort Saskatchewan, AB; Marlene Strank - Mission, BC; Gail (Rene) LeGrand - Medicine Hat, AB and one son, Alan (Janice) Myers - Kelowna, BC. Emily was a grandmother to ten grandchildren - Jody (Robert) LeGrand-Whelan - Fort Saskatchewan, AB; David Haffner - Toronto, ON; Danny (Debbie) Haffner - Moor Park, CA; Todd (Lissa) LeGrand - Regina; Sean Strank - Hamilton, MT; Mark LeGrand - Regina; Ryan (Danielle) Strank - Kamloops, BC; Shannon Myers - Saskatoon; Graham and Hailey Myers - Kelowna, BC; eleven great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. Emily also leaves to mourn one brother, Clarence (Ann) Mitchell of Star City, SK. She was predeceased by her husband of 70 years, Victor Michael Myers in 2008; three sisters - Ethel, Betty, Mickey and two brothers - Stan and Don. Our mother, was a very strong and independent woman and she will be missed by all. A Service of Remembrance will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Saturday, May 28, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. with Reverend Dave Moore officiating. Interment of both Emily and Victor's ashes will follow at Sunset Cemetery. Memorials to the Sask. Heart & Stroke Foundation, 279 3rd Ave. N., Saskatoon, S7K 2H8, would be appreciated. In living memory of Emily, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.
VIVIAN NELSON
It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Lavina "Vivian" Nelson (nee Farnham) March 11, 2009 at Pioneer Lodge in Moose Jaw. Born September 29, 1930 Little Woody, Saskatchewan, Vivian married Norbert Nelson on June 14, 1947. After spending several years at Ratner Saskatchewan and having a family of one son and two daughters, they moved to Moose Jaw where another son was born. Vivian was predeceased by her husband Norbert on April 29, 1965, her son Kevin on March 10, 1966, great-grandson Thomas on August 12, 2007, her father Stanley Farnham on December 19, 1943, and her mother Myrtle Farnham (nee Benson) on December 12, 1986 . Viv is survived by and will be lovingly remembered and dearly missed by her children: Lynn (Lynn) Nelson of Moose Jaw, Connie Nelson of Edmonton, Arlene (Robert) Bercier of Regina; grandchildren: Ryan (Ruby and Tayler) Bercier of Calgary and Michel Bercier of Dartmouth Nova Scotia, as well as her sister Velma (Mike) Dirk of Moose Jaw, and numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. Vivian will be forever remembered for her welcoming smile, her contagious laughter, her family devotion, her strong will, tenacity, selflessness, and determination, and her warm heart and generous soul. In keeping with Vivian's wishes there will be no Funeral Service. A graveside service will be held at Beaver Creek Cemetery near Ratner, Saskatchewan at a later date with the Immediate Family. In lieu of flowers or memorials, donations can be made in Vivan's name to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 279 3rd Ave. N., Saskatoon, S7K 2H8. Vivan's family wishes to extend their sincere and heartfelt thanks to all of the staff for taking such good care of her while in residence at Pioneer Lodge. DORA KEEVILL
Mrs. Dora Keevill (nee Metka) passed away peacefully on Monday October 5, 2009 at the age of 92. Dora was born in Sterling, AB on August 17, 1917 and moved to Moose Jaw at an early age where she resided the remainder of her life. Dora was an ardent bowler representing Moose Jaw in a number of provincial/national tournaments. She enjoyed fishing and was an avid gardener. Dora was predeceased by her husband, Wilfred in 2001 and son, Ron in 2002. Dora will be sadly missed by her children Keith (Donna) of Moose Jaw, Lynne (Ray) Braun of Trail, BC., her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Brent (Kandis) Keevill and their daughter Kamika of LaRonge, SK, Rhonda (Steve) Shaheen and children Ashley, Shae-Lynne and Mark of Saskatoon, SK, Barry (Rebecca) Braun and children Stacey, Keegan, and Hailey of High River, AB, Brian Braun of Surrey, BC, Dave (Cathy) Keevill and children Tina, and Wendy of Calgary, AB, Mike Keevill of Innisfail, AB, Steve (Joanne) Keevill and children Breanna and Sean of Innisfail, AB, Todd (Mericar) Keevill and son Lucas of Calgary, and brother, Steve Metka of Sardis, BC. In keeping with Dora’s wishes there will be no services. Dora will be laid to rest with her husband at Prairie Memorial Columbarium in Moose Jaw. EVA LOUISE MULLIGAN
E. Louise (Mickey) Mulligan passed away peacefully on August 17, 2010 at the age of 94. Mickey was predeceased by her loving husband Edgar, father William, mother Juanita, brother Billy and infant sister. Mickey is survived by her sister- in- law Gladys Dickson, nephew Thomas (Shirley) Mulligan, niece Margaret (Jake) Friesen, Special great niece and Earth Angel Colleen (Carmine) DeGirolamo and their children Nicolas, Daniel and Alex, and several other great and great-great nieces and nephews. E. Louise Mulligan was born in Saskatoon, SK on January 23, 1916. Her childhood was spent in Flin Flon, MB and Moose Jaw, SK. She loved to swim and often talked about spending many hours at the Moose Jaw River (Wakamow). She attended Victoria and Prince Arthur schools in Moose Jaw completing her grade 6. Mickey worked at the Grant Hall Hotel as a hairstylist, waitress and an elevator operator. This is where she met Edgar, her husband. They travelled and lived in several places in Canada from Alberta to New Brunswick due to Edgar’s job with Fluor Corp. After Edgar passed away in 1969, Mickey moved back to Moose Jaw and became employed at Ina Grafton senior’s home as a special care aid. She worked here until her retirement at age 65. She loved to read, sew, crochet, knit, bake, garden, travel and spend time with friends and family. Fashion was a passion, and she always had a closet full of beautiful clothes, shoes and jewelry to match. She lived in her home in Moose Jaw, the house that she grew up in, until she was 91 and then she moved to Chez Nous senior’s home until just recently when she moved to Pioneers senior lodge. The Funeral Service will be held Tuesday August 24, 2010 at 11:00 A.M. at W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw. Pastor Roger Foust will officiate. Private family interment will follow at Regina Riverside Cemetery. MAXINE MILLER
November 27, 1935 – January 3, 2011
It is with great sadness that the family regrets to announce that Maxine has finally lost her long battle with breast and bone cancer. Maxine died peacefully at home surrounded by her family. Predeceased by her beloved husband Dusty, and daughter Leona, Maxine is survived by her three remaining daughters Denise, Sherry and Heidi and their families. She will be missed by all of the extended family. A Celebration of her life will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel, on Friday January 7, 2011 at 3:00 pm. Della Ferguson will officiate. Memorialization will take place at Prairie Memorial Columbarium at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a donation to the Allan Blair Cancer Clinic, or the Canadian Cancer Society, would be appreciated. HAZEL LEWRY
Hazel Lewry of Moose Jaw passed away on Sunday, June 7, 2009 at the age of 98 years. Hazel was predeceased by her husband Frank, her only son, Robert George on April 19, 2009, her parents, George and Bessie Emery, sisters, Wilma Doucet and Bernice Hall; and brothers, Charles and Malcolm. Hazel is survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins. Hazel was a graduate of the 1933 class of nurses from the Moose Jaw General Hospital and was awarded the F.J. Wilson prize for practical nursing. She proved to be a very worthy recipient having a long and distinguished career in nursing. Hazel was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Wa Wa Shrine Ladies' Auxiliary, and held a lifetime honourary membership in the Moose Jaw Union Hospital Nurses Alumnae. The family wishes to thank Pioneers Lodge for their very compassionate care of Hazel. The Service of Remembrance will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw on Saturday June 13, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. Her cremated remains will be scattered in the Garden of Remembrance at First Memorial, in Victoria, B.C. Gladys Leonora Myers (Wood)
Gladys was born to Harry and Leonora Wood at Diebolt, SK on December 12, 1918 and passed away at the age of 92 in Moose Jaw, SK on March 29, 2011 with her loving family by her side. Glady was born in the year of the great flu epidemic. She came with her family to the Pambrun and later Vanguard District in 1920. She attended public school at Turkey Track School and high school in Vanguard. She came to Moose Jaw in 1940/41 to business school and never left. Glady was employed in various places of business starting with C.M Nixon Agencies, Sask Woolen Mills, Canadian Legion, spent 20 years with Sears Canada and lastly with Carousel Costumes Moose Jaw for 10 years finally retiring in July 1999. Glady was a member of the Rebekah Lodge in Vanguard and transferred to the Moose Jaw Lodge when she moved here, becoming a life member. She married school mate Bernard Gale Myers on December 12, 1948 in Moose Jaw, SK. She was a loving mother to sons Gale (Mary) and Cameron (Debra); daughter Grace (Wayne); grandson Dean (Tammy); loving Gram to Brennen, Derrick, Chris, Matthew, Jerri-Lynn, Melissa, Kyle, Brady, Dave, Alisa and Sharon; loving Great-Gram to Keanna, Anakin, Drake, Brooke, Dylan, Rebekah, Nathan, Daniel, Tegan, Sid, Derrick, Marlee and Chloe. She is also survived by her brother Spencer and sister Dorothy. Aunt to many nieces and nephews and best friend to many. Glady is predeceased by her husband Bernard in February 1988, her parents and two brothers. A Funeral Service will be held at Minto United Church on Monday, April 4, 2011 at 1:30pm. Gary Johnson will officiate. Family and friends are invited to a time of visitation on Sunday, April 3, 2011 from 7-9pm at W. J. Jones and Son Chapel. Gladys will be laid to rest beside her husband Bernard at Rosedale Cemetery.
