It is with great sadness that Crystal and Lisa announce the sudden passing of their mother, Debby. Debby is survived by her father, Walter, loving sister, Barb (Bryan) Holmes, their children: Angie, Jeff and Stephanie; daughters: Crystal Borody (companion, Philip), and Lisa Borody (companion, Brett); their father, John; estranged husband, Denis Struble, as well as many, many close friends and associates that she was lovingly dedicated to. Debby’s daughters were the pride of her life. She had many friendships both near and far that were very special to her, she loved so many so dearly and was always there for them. She loved to travel with her family and friends and always took advantage of opportunities for adventure.
Debby will be sadly missed by her family, friends, co-workers and customers.
A Celebration of Debby’s Life will be held on Friday, January 30, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. at Minto United Church, 1036 – 7th Ave. N.W., Moose Jaw. Della Ferguson will officiate. For those so wishing, memorial donations in Debby’s memory may be made to the Transition House, Box 1866, Moose Jaw, S6H 7N6. In living memory of Debby, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.
GENE BOWLER
William Eugene (Gene) Bowler passed away on Tuesday, February 6, 2008 at his home in Toronto, from cancer. Gene was born in Prestbury, Cheshire, England on December 3, 1945. He moved with his parents to Canada in 1947 and was educated in Moose Jaw at Queen Elizabeth, William Grayson, and Central Collegiate. After graduating from the University of Saskatchewan with a degree in engineering in 1967, he began working with Otis Elevator Company, and was employed by them until the time of his death. Predeceased by his father, Joe in 1997, Gene is survived by his sons, Stephen and Christopher (Mary), and their mother, Gloria, his mother Shirley Bowler, his brother Dave (Nora) and their children Meagan (Ben Weber) and Brad, his aunt, Joan Arthur and his cousins, Bob (Teresa), Ken (Linda), Hugh (Melinda) and their children. Gene was very proud of and close to his children. He loved his work and will be greatly missed by his colleagues at Otis. Gene's favorite pastimes were reading, doing puzzles of all kinds, playing bridge, and barbequing for friends and family from his favorite place, his garage. A memorial service for Gene will be held at W.J. Jones and Son Funeral Chapel on Friday February 22, at 1:30. Rev. John Carley will officiate. Memorialization will take place in the Prairie Memorial Columbarium at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of your choice. Wasyl Rusnak passed away at Valley View Centre on Wednesday May 5, 2010. The Funeral Service will be held at Valley View Centre on Monday May 10, 2010 at 2:00. Reverend Doug Hallman will officiate. FRIEDA ANNA STEINHAUER passed away at Pioneer Lodge, Moose Jaw on Saturday May 3, 2003 at the age of 86 years. Frieda was a loving and charitable friend, neighbour and church member. She contributed in her quiet way to the many involved in her life. She will be sadly missed. She is predeceased by her parents, William and Helen (Walker) Maerz, twins, Donna and Donald, husband, Peter, son, Wilfred; sisters: Chris, Emily and Edna, a brother, John; stepsons: Peter, Edgar and Arnold, and by her step-daughter-in-law, Ruth. Frieda is survived by her son, Randy (Mona-Maria) Steinhauer, grandson, Jordan (Kehler), daughter-in-law, Joan Steinhauer; granddaughters: Cheryl and Kara, brother, Wilfred (Barbara) Maerz, sister, Elsie (Dean) Allan, brother-in-law, George Neurauter; step-daughters: Martha (Gerald) Johnson, Edna (Roy) Delbeck, Dorothy (Wilfred) Longmore, Evelyn (Joe) Lang; step-daughters-in-law: Florence, Irene and Jan (Steinhauer), as well as numerous nieces, nephews, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. The Funeral Service will be held at Central Lutheran Church, 27 Hochelaga St. W., Moose Jaw on Thursday, May 8, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. Pastor Doug Shepherd will officiate. Interment will follow at the Sunset Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held Wednesday evening (May 7), 7-9 p.m. at the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 4420 Albert St. , Regina, Sask., S4S 6B4. Ina was born in the Eastleigh district to James and Edith Hicks. She married Bud Campbell in 1954 and moved to the Mortlach district where she lived for 32 years and raised three children. Ina moved to Moose Jaw in the fall of 1986. She is predeceased by her parents, husband Bud in 1971, brothers: Lloyd, Raymond, Jim, and Gordon, sister Pearl, and twin sister Ivy. Ina is survived by her children: Carol Andrejcin and son Brendan; Howard (Tracy) Campbell and children Kelsey and JJ; Isabel (Jim) Dolan and children Jamie (Ryan) Reeves and Alisha; great-granddaughter, Rachel; brothers-in-law: Joe (Norma) Campbell and Robert (Evelyn) Campbell as well as nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Ina’s life will be held at Minto United Church, 1036 Seventh Ave. N.W., on Thursday May 12, 2005 at 3:00 pm. Della Ferguson will officiate. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. Visitation will be held Wednesday evening 7–9 pm at W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home. It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Verna Esther (Hanson) Armstrong on Friday September 10, 2010, just 3 days prior to her 87th birthday. Verna was born September 13, 1923 in Regina, SK, and was one of 11 children. She is predeceased by her parents Ellert and Rosa (Hesla) Hanson; her husband Robert (2005); brothers: Harold, Bert, Roy (Eileen) Hanson; sisters: Opal (Norman) Kennedy, Bertha (Jack) Ross, Ethel (Atlie) Berkey, Bernice (Clifford) Kennedy, and Vera Dermody; and brothers-in-law Dr. Leicester Eaton, Frank Forsberg, and Michael Benz. She is survived by sister Myrtle Eaton of La Crosse, Wisconsin, twin sister Violet Benz of Kelowna, BC; brother-in-law John Dermody of Regina; sister-in-law Louise Hanson of Regina; and by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Verna is also survived by many friends, particularly Terry and Fran Aikens, and Brian and Terry Webster – all of Hearne, who are considered “extended” family. Verna taught school in the Briercrest area, and worked in the Regina General Hospital during which time she met and married Robert Armstrong of Hearne, SK. They lived on the farm for many years, and moved into a new home in Avonlea in 1994. In 2005 Verna became a resident of Coteau Range Manor in Avonlea where she received excellent care and continued to enjoy her friendships and the community. Verna will be missed by her family and many great friends, and by the Avonlea Community. The family extends their appreciation to the staff at Coteau Range Manor for their special care and attention to Verna. The Celebration of Verna’s life will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Tuesday September 14, 2010 at 1:30 pm. Friends are invited to the Committal Service at the Hillcrest Cemetery, Avonlea on Wednesday September 15, at 1:30 pm. DOROTHY PORTER
DOROTHY PORTER of Moose Jaw passed away at the Union Hospital on Wednesday, March 25, 2009. Born to Alice and Robert Hardwick June 6, 1913 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, she was the second of six children. Dorothy lived on a farm near Jansen, Saskatchewan until she was sixteen years old when the family moved to Regina. She finished high school at Scott Collegiate and then went to teachers college. Mom taught at many country schools in southern, Saskatchewan. The first school being Anchor, east of Willow Bunch where she met and married Leonard Porter in 1937. They farmed for a while then she went back teaching until her retirement in 1974, the last school being Hodgeville where she had taught for eight years. Mom and Dad lived in Kaslo, B.C. until Dad passed away in 1985. Mom moved to Duncan, B.C. to be closer to her siblings and son. In 1994 she moved to Moose Jaw and in 2000 to Chateau St. Michael care home and in 2006 moved to Providence Place. Mom was a member of the United Church and The Memorial Society Association. After her retirement mom enjoyed making quilts and afghans until her eyesight failed. Predeceased by three brothers, one sister and one granddaughter, Dorothy is survived by one son, Robert Porter - Langley, B.C., one daughter, Ellen (Johnny) Maruska - Moose Jaw, one sister Phoebe - Victoria, B.C.; six grandchildren: Sheila Maruska - Moose Jaw, Laurie (Mike) Thibert Edmonton, Debra (Rick) Windsor - Swan River, Manitoba, Janice (Miles) Petersen - Mortlach, Darren (Michelle) Maruska - Moose Jaw, Kirk (Jody) Maruska Moose Jaw; thirteen great-grandchildren and two great-great-granddaughters. Following cremation, A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 4, 2009 at 2 p.m. at St. Andrew's United Church Chapel, 60 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw. Reverend Earla McKinnell will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. In living memory of Dorothy, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J.
