KATIE MONTGOMERY

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our mother and grandmother, Katie Montgomery on September 28, 2010 with her family at her side. Katie was born in Spring Valley on November 25, 1919. She married Mervin Montgomery on November 8, 1939 and they farmed at Crane Valley until 1974, although they moved to Moose Jaw in 1968. Katie enjoyed gardening, Sunday suppers with her family and grand dogs. She is predeceased by her husband Mervin in 1996, parents Peter and Katherine Runzer, brothers and sisters, Frank, Benjamin, Joseph, Peter, Eva, Elizabeth, Mary, Hanna; and daughter-in-law Eva. Left to cherish her memory are her children: Wilfred – Vernon, BC, (Kevin, Kelvin (Karen), and Stacy); Ethel (Barry) Akins – Outlook, (Bradley (Terri), and Michael (Candace); Emily Montgomery – Moose Jaw; Barbara (Terry) Moore – Regina, (Trent (Kerry), and Steven (Brandy); Donald (Marie) Montgomery – Moose Jaw, (Ryan); as well as eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson; sisters-in-law Helen Runzer, Theresa Montgomery, Florence Montgomery, and Joyous Lidberg; and many nieces and nephews. A Family Graveside Service will be held at Rosedale Cemetery. Della Ferguson will officiate. A Come & Go Tea in Katie’s memory will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Family Centre, 262 Athabasca St. E. on Saturday October 2, 2010 at 3:00 pm. Memorials to a charity of choice, would be appreciated. In living memory of Katie, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

DON SCHWABE

Don passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at his home in Moose Jaw. He was born in Antelope, Saskatchewan April 29, 1925. He moved to Brownlee when he was two years old, where he farmed with his father. In 1950 he married Ione Buckmaster. They were blessed with three boys. They lived in Brownlee from 1950 to 1967. In Brownlee he was an active member of the community, serving as a local school board trustee and on almost every other committee. He was a major contributor in the building of the Brownlee Rink. In 1967 he moved to the farm northeast of Brownlee for many years until retiring back to Brownlee where he lived until recently. Throughout his life he was active in sports both as a player and coach for his sons. Later he enjoyed watching his grandchildren. He was a councilor on the Marquis Municipality board. Don was predeceased by his two sisters, Gene Hamilton and Marg Purdy. He is survived by his wife Ione (Buckmaster); his sons, Rick, Randy (Heather), and Clair (Char); grandchildren: Evan (Jill), Eric (Hailey), Marissa, Stacia, Taylor and many relatives and friends that he has shared his life with. A Celebration of Don’s Life will be held at W. J. Jones and Son Chapel on Friday, March 26, 2010 at 1:30 pm with Della Ferguson officiating. Memorialization will take place at Brownlee Cemetery at a later date. For those so wishing memorials in Don’s memory may be directed to the Canadian Cancer Society, 61B Ross St. W., Moose Jaw, S6H 2M2. In living memory of Don, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

OLIVE THOMPSON

It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma and Aunt, Olive. Mom slipped away peacefully in her sleep on May 16, 2011 at Providence Place at 90 years of age. Mom was born in the United Kingdom in the district of Godstone on August 18, 1920. Dad (Harvey Thompson) was a Canadian Soldier and they married in 1943 in Horsham, Sussex. Following her husband, Mom sailed to Halifax in 1945 with sons Michael and John to start their new life in Canada. Mom held many jobs over the years. Some of which were waitressing, sales clerk, bakery helper, a cooks assistant on a road crew and nanny to her grandchildren. She joined the XYZ Club and learned to do ceramics, paper tole and silk flower arrangements. She also went on trips with the club. Her greatest love was her flower garden and yard. It was admired by many passers by. Predeceased by her parents, Eliza and James Mitchell; sisters: Eliza, Mary and Margaret; brothers: (Baby) Arthur and Jim; sons: Michael and John and husband, Harvey. Mom is survived by her brothers: Ken (Mary) Mitchell, Tony and family of the United Kingdom; daughter, Janet (Jim) Carr; grandchildren: Joanne (Chris) Landry, Taylor and Karrisa; Jackie (Mitch) Paulson, Kendal and Deegan; Jody (Chris Hack) Dawson, Brayden and Abi – all of Moose Jaw; daughter-in-law, Gloria Thompson of Regina; grandchildren Deb (Lee) Lane, Colton and Kelsey of Balgonie, Duane Thompson (Lindsay) Kylee, Kolby and Ethan of Balgonie; niece Elsie Wales and family, nephews Tony (Marion) Taylor and family, John (Janet) Strudwick – all of the United Kingdom and Australia; brother-in-law, Merlin Thompson and family of Moose Jaw, Davidson and Alberta; sister-in-law, Marg McNab and family of Moose Jaw and area; many other nieces and nephews in Canada and the U.K. Mom’s service will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. at W.J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw. Linda Owens will officiate. Interment will take place at Sunset Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Providence Place Healing Garden, 100 – 2nd Ave. N.E., Moose Jaw, S6H 1B8. In living memory of Olive, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

OTTO ZOPF

It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the peaceful passing of Otto Rudolph Zopf of Moose Jaw, with his wife and five daughters at his side on March 8, 2003 at the age of 80 years. Otto is predeceased by his parents, Frank and Magdalena Zopf; two infant children, Darcy and Janice; five brothers, Mike Frank, John, Carl, and Alfred; three sisters, Leana, Nora and Emma; plus numerous family members. He will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Hazel; daughters: Cheryle Burlotti; Brenda (Michael) Volk; Melanie (Denis) Alix; Penny (Robert) Cumming; Gaylene (Randy) Volk; thirteen grandchildren; Tara, Derek, Tristin, Kyle, Nolan, Dylan, Tyler, Aryn, Kayla, Tanner, Matthew, Logan, and David; and many family and friends. Evening Prayer Services will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Tuesday, March 11, 2003 at 7:30 pm. A Mass of Celebration and Remembrance will be held at the Church of Our Lady, 566 Vaughan Street, on Wednesday March 12, 2003 at 1:30 pm. Reverend Father Gerry Bauche will be Mass Celebrant, assisted by Parish Minister, Stephanie Molloy. Private family memorialization will take place at a later date. Memorials to Providence Place, 100 Second Ave. N.E., S6H 1B8, or Moose Jaw Union Hospital Foundation (Palliative Care), 455 Fairford St. E., S6H 1H3, would be gratefully appreciated. ALEXANDER "SANDY" MURRAY

On Thursday, January 2, 2003, Alexander “Sandy” Murray of Moose Jaw, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, died peacefully at the Regina General Hospital with his family by his side. Sandy was born January 1, 1927 in Kirkmichael Ayrshire, Scotland and immigrated to Canada with his mother, Janet in December 1930 joining his father, William in Cypress River, Manitoba. He attended school at Cypress River and Roseneath. During the War years and after completing school, Dad worked on farms within the Cypress River district. On November 1, 1944 he began his 43 year career with CP Rail as a station apprentice and then working as an operator, diesel inspector and dispatcher until retiring in February 1987 as Chief Train Dispatcher at Moose Jaw. Sandy married Elsie Ferris on June 3, 1950. During their 52 years of marriage their transfers with CP Rail gifted them with many friendships. Sandy was a proud and active member of St. Mark’s Presbyterian Church, a loyal Mason and Shriner, and he enjoyed playing the cymbals in the Moose Jaw Shrine Military Band. He is predeceased by his parents, William in 1975 and Janet in 1988. Sandy is survived by his wife, Elsie; son Bruce and his wife Mary B. (Sagal) and their family, Jennifer, Devon, Brandon, Brittany and Joshua, all of Moose Jaw; daughter, Sandra and her husband Mike Neithercut of Winnipeg and their family Kim, Terry and Brooklyn Banilevic of Moose Jaw and Kevin Neithercut of Calgary; brothers and sisters-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. Special thanks to all the doctors and nurses in SICU at Regina General Hospital and ICU at Moose Jaw Union Hospital for their care and kindness. The Funeral Service will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Monday, January 6, 2003 at 1:30 pm. Reverend Don Bater will officiate. Memorialization will take place at Prairie Memorial Columbarium at a later time. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Shriners Hospitals for Children c/o 1767 Main St. N., Moose Jaw, S6J 1L6, or to St. Mark’s Presbyterian Church, 80 High St. E., Moose Jaw, S6H 1S3, would be appreciated. In living memory of Sandy, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

WILLIAM MUNROE

William Earl Munroe Sr. of Moose Jaw, Sk. passed away peacefully at his home on May 12th, 2010 at the age of 71 years. He was born on May 21st, 1938 in the home at 840 Grandview St. He will be missed by his children, Billy (friend Rhonda), Terry, George (Collette) and Bev (Mark) Abbey; their mother Dianne Munroe; sister Doreen Singbeil; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and best friend his dog Simon. He was predeceased by his parents Alex (Sandy) and Pearl Munroe, brothers George, Lyle and Jim; and brother-in-law Art Singbeil. A Celebration of his life will be held on May 22nd, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at the Eagles Club, 561 Home Street W. He will be buried with his parents at Sunset Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Allan Blair Cancer Clinic, 4101 Dewdney Ave., Regina, S4T 1A5. In living memory of William, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

DELIA VALASTIN

Delia Valastin, passed away April 3, 2005. Delia was born in Swift Current, and grew up on the family farm in the Rush Lake district, attending school near Rush Lake and at Swift Current. She married Lad Valastin in Swift Current in 1962. Delia worked at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital in the Finance Dept. for over 20 years. She volunteered at the Providence Hospital and later at Providence Place and was active with the C.W.L. at St. Joseph’s. Delia loved gardening, and also played golf and curled. She is predeceased by her two sisters, Helen Shaheen and Mary Brownberger; and two brothers, George and Charlie Shaheen. She is survived by her husband, Lad; brothers, Bud ( Doris ) Shaheen and Ted (Betty) Shaheen; and sisters, Yvonne (Herbert) Miller, and Rose Shaheen-Howes. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church on Thursday April 7, 2005 at 10:30 am. Reverend Father Alex Osei C.S.Sp and Father Michael Conteh C.S.Sp will be celebrants. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. Evening Prayer Service will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Wednesday April 6, 2005 at 7:30 pm Memorials to the Renal Unit, Moose Jaw Union Hospital, would be appreciated. In living memory of Delia, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.
