Michael “Mike” Dirk passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Thursday June 11, 2009 at the age of 85. Mike was born April 25, 1924 in the Liebenthal district, near Leader, SK. His family moved to Moose Jaw where he met the love of his life Velma E. Farnham. Mike was a semi-truck driver for 27years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing. Camping with his family and the Moose Jaw Camping Club was another favourite activity. Mike is survived by his wife of 62 years, Velma; his constant companion Scooby; daughter Chery Ann (Jim) Hoffmeyer – Sherwood Park, AB, and their sons Shawn (Shannon) and Chad (daughter Ashley); daughter Diane (Shane) Migneault and their family Jared and Braden Huel, Benjamin (Alesia) Migneault, Rebecca (Pete) Lewans, Tyson (Brittany) Migneault; sister Rose (Allan) Woit; great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Mike was predeceased by his parents Clara and Joseph Dirk; sister Ann Bonogofski; and sister and brother-in-law Agatha “Mary” and John Steinkey; mother-in-law and father-in-law Myrtle (Stan) Farnham; sister-in-law and brother-in-law Vivian (Norbert) Nelson. In his later years Mike experienced peacefulness at the family cabin at the lake. Mike’s sense of humour and joy of life will live on in all whose lives he touched. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered… A Memorial Service will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Tuesday June 16, 2009 at 1:30 pm. Della Ferguson will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Sask. Heart & Stroke Foundation, 279 3rd Ave. N., Saskatoon, S7K 2H8. In living memory of Mike, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. ELSIE ANNE JENSEN
Mrs. Elsie Anne Jensen (nee Darjes), of Moose Jaw passed away peacefully at the age of 83 on Saturday March 12, 2011 with family by her side. Born to Norwegian immigrants Otto and Jenny Darjes in Neville, SK Elsie was raised and received her education in Swift Current, SK. It was there that she began her career as a photographer later moving to Regina to work for the Government of Saskatchewan. In 1959 Elsie married Richard Jensen and together they farmed near Stelcam and raised their family in Moose Jaw where they resided. She enjoyed oil painting, ceramics, bowling and in her later years recreation at The Maguire Centre at Providence Place. Elsie is predeceased by her parents, husband Richard and ten brothers and sisters. She is remembered by her daughter Nancy (Jeff) Barber and their children Jeremy and Emily; her son Christian - all of Regina; sisters-in-law Ethel Jensen and Elna Jensen; and special friends Jean and Marian McDougall – all of Moose Jaw; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A Funeral Service will be held at W. J. Jones and Son Chapel on Saturday March 19, 2011 at 1:30pm. Rev. Bob Langdon will officiate. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. Memorials to World Vision Canada, 1 World Drive Mississauga, Ontario L5T 2Y4, would be appreciated. In living memory of Elsie, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.
JOHN GRAHAM
John Graham passed away on March 8, 2007 at the age of 63. John was born and raised in Moose Jaw and worked as a mechanic and equipment operator on various construction sites throughout Saskatchewan. He later resided in Loon Lake and worked for the municipality on road maintenance. He was predeceased by a brother Patrick in 1944 and partner Delores Moore in 2005. He is survived by his daughter Marcie (Dave) Horvath of Fort Walton Beach Florida, his parents Kay and Bill Graham, three brothers Dan (Carol), Tim (Cathy), Louis (Connie), seven sisters Cel (Albert) Hanevelt, Rita (Don) Cushing, Maureen (Peter) Smeaton, Joan (Tom) Goddard, Rose (Rob) Drummond, Eileen (Lyle) Kendel, Fran (Bill) Simpson and numerous nieces and nephews. Memorial will take place in Loon Lake at a later date. In living memory of John, a tree has been planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.
MARJORIE FROST (BROOKS)
May 20, 1920 - March 19, 2009
With great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and sister-in-law on Thursday, March 19, 2009 at Extendicare at the age of 88. Marjorie is survived by three children; George (Eileen) and family, Ruth and family, and Richard. Marjorie was born in Huron Township Bruce County, Ontario, met and married Arthur Herbert Frost and moved to Komoka, Ontario. They eventually moved to Mitchellton, Saskatchewan to take over the Frost homestead. Marjorie was active in the United Church, the UCW, the Mitchellton Community Club, the Mossbank Community Band, the Mossbank Legion, and the Cosmo Centre. Mom loved sports and enjoyed bowling, lawn bowling, shuffleboard and watching her favourite teams the Dodgers and the Blue Jays. Mom also loved a good game of cards; from cribbage to whist to euchre to rummy. She was an avid reader and loved her crossword puzzles and game shows. A Memorial Service will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Tuesday March 31, 2009 at 1:30 pm. Della Ferguson will officiate. Memorialization will take place at Sunset Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the CNIB, 2550 Broad St. , Regina S4P 9Z9, or to the Canadian Diabetes Association, 104 – 2301 Ave. C., North, Saskatoon, S7L 5Z5, would be appreciated. KENNETH IVERS
Kenneth Raymond Ivers, born on October 28, 1928 in Briercrest to William and Eva Ivers, died unexpectedly on Father’s Day June 19, 2011 at home. Ken was predeceased by his parents, his first wife Mary Olynik, and second wife Valerie Reynaud; sisters Eleanor Ainsworth, Doris Sanders, Audrey Williams, and Pearl Ivers; brothers Clarence, Gordon and Bill Ivers. He will be sadly missed by sons Kirk Reynaud (Bobbi), Doug Ivers (Chris), Randy Ivers (Helen), daughter Bev Gobbi (George); sisters Ethel Grosnick, Georgina Webb, Gladys Seida, Darlene Woodrow, June Mallmes, Shirley Jackson, and brother Edward Ivers; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends; and two special companions Oscar and Izzy. Ken grew up in the Briercrest area before moving to Moose Jaw where he was known as a great truck driver, doing almost any driving job from long hauls to quick trips. Driving from the age of 14 until his late 70’s, that is what he loved most. Ken was a great friend to everyone he met and he will be missed by all. A Celebration of Ken’s life will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Friday June 24, 2011 at 1:30 pm. Pastor John McCubbing will officiate. Memorialization will take place at a later date. ARCHEY GETTY
Archey Lyle Getty passed away peacefully on February 3, 2011 at age 82, surrounded by his family. He was raised on the Getty homestead at Archydal and married Eleanor (Brown). Archey and Eleanor farmed until 1992 and celebrated 60 years of marriage last April. He was an avid curler, loved to dance and looked forward to hunting in the fall. An active volunteer in the local community, Archey was a life member of the Elks, Masonic Lodge, and Shrine Club. He was predeceased by parents Robert and Olina Getty, sisters Margery and Roberta and grandson James. He is survived by his loving wife Eleanor; his sister Leone Newton; and his children: daughter Cheryl (Doug) Bruce; grandchildren: Tyler (Madhavi), Kylie and Steven; daughter Arlene; grandson Ritchard; son Robert (Lorrie); grandchildren: Alana (Sean) Somers; great-grandson Callum Archey; Kendra (Jonathan); and Daniel; son Murray (Vanessa); grandchildren: Steven, Danielle and Michael. A private family service was held. Gary Hyland
Peace at last. Gary Hyland passed away Tuesday, April 5, 2011, surrounded by the love of his family and friends. Predeceased by his parents, Iris and Kenneth “Teck”, he will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Sharon Nichvalodoff; his sons, Mark (Jennie), Michael (Terri-Lynn), Miles (Tanya); his brother, Jherryd Jhordynn; five grandchildren, Sara, Laura, Brayden, Brooklynn, Brett; his best friend, Bob Currie; many extended family members and numerous friends. Gary loved his family and always looked forward to spending time with his grandchildren. Gary was born Nov. 25, 1940 in Moose Jaw, growing up on South Hill where his adventures and creative imagination began. He loved Moose Jaw and chose to live and work here. Gary was a teacher, writer, cultural activist, consultant, and editor, volunteering his time to put his many ideas into action. He set high goals for himself and others. He was an author of eight books, a member of the Order of Canada, founder of the Sask. Festival of Words, instrumental in the creation of the Cultural Centre, as well as many other organizations, and the recipient of numerous awards and prizes. Gary's battle with ALS is now over, but our memories of him and his legacies will live on. He will be dearly missed, and we will always have a special place for him in our hearts. Thank you to all who touched Gary's life. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Church of Our Lady, 566 Vaughan Street, on Friday April 8, 2011 at 11:00 am. Father Carlos Jimenez will be the Celebrant. An Evening Prayer Service will be held at the Church on Thursday at 7:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sask.
