Lucille Carey – It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lucille on Sunday October 7, 2007 at the age of 72, after a brief battle with cancer. Lucille was born on April 4, 1935 in Chaplin, SK. She was predeceased by her parents Frank and Melvina Dyck, husband Frank Carey, daughter Ann Demyen, brother Peter Dyck, sister Faye Ireland, brothers-in-law Laird Ireland and Henry Martin, and sister-in-law Myrtle Dyck. She is survived by sons, Alan, and John (Kathy); seven grandchildren, Lorie, Jason, Michael (Lisa), Michelle (Mike), Amanda, Shannon and Cody; two great-grandchildren, Mikayla and Riley; brothers, Dale (Glenda), Gordon and Phillip; sisters, Elaine Martin, Donna (Jim) Marchessault, and Ellie (Ron) Richards; as well as several nieces and nephews. A Service of Remembrance will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Saturday October 20, 2007 at 1:30 pm. Reverend David Moore will officiate. Memorialization will follow at Sunset Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. Those so wishing may make donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, 66B Ross St. W., Moose Jaw, S6H 2M2. BLANCHE ARNOLD
BLANCHE VIOLET ARNOLD passed away Sunday, June 5, 2011 at the age of 83 years. She will be fondly remembered by her husband of 63 years, Fred; daughter Maxine (Patrick); son Dwight (Shirley); four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, June 10, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca Street East, Moose Jaw. Reverend Bill Thomson will officiate. A private family interment will take place. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Association, #301 – 2550, 12th Avenue, Regina, S4P 3X1. ISABEL MARJORY JOHNSON
Isabel (Dede) Marjory Johnson passed away in Extendicare on February 20, 2011 at the age of 92. She was born in Moose Jaw on March 9, 1918. She attended King George Public School and Central Collegiate as well as Briercrest Bible Institute. She worked for E. R. Eaton Fur Shop as a fur finisher and taught at Singer Sewing Machine Company in Moose Jaw . Then moved to Ottawa where she taught Home Economics until her retirement in 1974. She returned to Moose Jaw and worked as a fur finisher at Fur Town . She was an active member of the Alliance Church and a member of the Teachers Christian Fellowship Group. She is predeceased by her parents, Walfred and Anne Johnson, sisters, Wilma Davey and Beryl Hetherington and brothers Scottie and Maurice Johnson. She is survived by many nieces and nephews and their families, Barb (Jack) Ross, Betty Ann (Scott) Chalmers, Moose Jaw; Bob (Gail) Johnson, Campbell River; Dale Johnson, Calgary; Ken Johnson, Regina; Dan (Barb) Hetherington, and Barbara Ruth Tymos of Nanaimo; Carol (John) Young, Halifax; Joy (Laurie) Stibbards and Jim Davey of Toronto; Doug (Cindy) Johnson, Jim (Brenda) Johnson and Kathy Johnson of Regina. A Celebration of Isabel’s life will be held on Saturday February 26, 2011 at 2pm at the W. J. Jones & Son Family Centre, 262 Athabasca Street East. Pastor Keith Gonyou will officiate. Betty Traylen Pendlebury (McKillop)
Betty Traylen Pendlebury, born October 31, 1915, passed away peacefully on May 23, 2010 at the age of 94 years. Betty was predeceased by her husband Bruce in 1998. She is survived by her daughters Janet Kribs (Bruce) and Lois Henbury; stepson Jack Pendlebury (Marlene); grandchildren, Jennifer Kribs (Joe Doove), Brad Kribs and Scott Henbury (Amy); great-grandchildren, Brandon and Luke Henbury, Alex and Kristen Doove, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. In keeping with Betty’s wishes no funeral services will be held. A private family interment will take place in St. Andrews Garden of Memories. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of one’s choice. In living memory of Betty, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.
ANNE KAWULICH
Born March 18, 1923 in the village of Solinka in the county of Lesko, Western Ukraine, deceased February 24, 2011 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Anne came to Canada at the age of seven, first living in Hafford and then moving to Krydor, SK where she spent her school years. She moved to Moose Jaw in the late 1940’s where she was employed with the Saskatchewan Department of Labour, working there until her retirement. Anne loved gardening, and her flowers were a showpiece of the neighborhood. She was a talented seamstress and stitcher, and especially enjoyed knitting for orphanages in the Ukraine and Mexico. She was a member of the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Moose Jaw, and a founding member of the Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League of Moose Jaw, as well she was a member of the Ukrainian National Home, the Prosvita Society, the Taras Shevchenko Kobzar Society and enjoyed “swim club” at the Prairie Oasis with friends. Anne loved to travel, and toured several times in the Ukraine, as well as spending winter holidays in Mexico where she worked as a volunteer in orphanages. Anne was predeceased by her parents, William and Eva; brother, Steve; life partner, Demko Zawadzki and daughter, Natalie Der Yea. She is survived by her grandsons, Michael Der of Calgary, Jason (Heidi) Der and their son Austin of Saskatoon; brother Mike (Elsie) Kawulych of Vegerville and son in law, Bill Der of Saskatoon as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The Funeral Liturgy will be held on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at 10:00 am at the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, 625 Fifth Ave. S.W., Moose Jaw. Fr. Yurij Lazurko will be the Mass Celebrant. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. Prayers will be held on Friday, March 4 at 7:30 pm at the Ukrainian Catholic Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. VIOLA GLASSFORD
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of VIOLA MARIE (VI) GLASSFORD (nee: Walter) on March 24, 2009 at Pioneer Lodge. She was born December 5, 1920 in the Dundurn district to George and Matilda Walter. Vi attended Nutana College in Saskatoon and received her Teachers Certificate from Saskatoon Normal School. She started her teaching career at the age of nineteen years at Tweed School in the Wallard district teaching grades 1-12. She was Past Regent of the Jarvis Bay Chapter of the I.O.D.E., Charter Member of the Moose Jaw Lioness Club and a member of St. Andrew’s United Church. Vi loved music, dancing, bridge, and playing the piano as well as time spent with the grandchildren. Predeceased by her parents and brothers: George Jr. in infancy and Dr. Elmer, Vi is survived by her loving husband of sixty-seven years, Syd, son, Bob (Deb), daughter, Vicki (Doug) Blane and five grandchildren: Jed Glassford, Jill Glassford, Melissa (Brett) Moore (nee Blanc), Matthew Blanc and Nadine Blanc. The family would like to express their thanks for the wonderful care Vi received from the staff at Pioneer Lodge over the past eight years and to Dr. Luhning. JOSEPH EDOUARD NORBERT (ED) CYR
On July 30, 2010, Edward Joseph Norbert Cyr, 70 years, passed away after a courageous battle at the Union Hospital in Moose Jaw, SK with family at his side. He will be lovingly remembered by his daughters Colette Ducharme, children Bryan, Corissa, Justine, Sierra; Patsy (Richard) Acott, children Jesse, Janelle, Breanna; Susanne (Ken) Cyr-Philipchuk, children Kirsten, Kelsey, Carson, Jake; Sandra Cyr (Steve Perera), son Adrien; and their mother Armella Cyr. Ed is also survived by his brother Ronald (Dorothy)Cyr, sisters Cora (Camille) Doucet, Norma (Alcide) Pitre and sister-in-law Jeaninne Cyr, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and family, all of Bathurst, NB. Ed was predeceased by his parents Alyre and Beatrice, brothers Melvin and Harold, and nephews Michel Doucet, Gary Cyr and son-in-law Michael Ducharme. Ed was born on January 20, 1940 in Bathurst, NB where he was raised. He joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1957, served for 35 years, and retired in 1992. He was also a long standing member of the Royal Canadian Legion and Fraternal Order of Eagles. Friends and family are invited to a prayer vigil at W. J. Jones & Son, 106 Athabasca St. E., on Wednesday August 4, 2010 at 7 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday August 5, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Josephs Parish, 1064 3rd Ave NW with Father Rick Krofchek officiating.
