Paul John Tkachuk, passed away May 7, 2011 at the age of 79 years. Paul was born in Brooksby, SK, and attended Gronlid and Willow Valley Schools, and high school in Melfort. He worked at the Post Office in Melfort for a time before moving to Saskatoon where he worked at constructing the Army Camp at Dundurn. Paul then moved to Moose Jaw, working for Wilms Transport for a short time. He met Elsie Misko during this time, and they were married in January of 1960. Paul then began a career with the Sask. Wheat Pool in a variety of positions before retiring in 1992. Music was important to Paul and he played violin in various bands throughout his youth, and with his son Brian in his later years. Paul was dedicated to serving others, always looking after his neighbours, helping with yard work, or any errands as needed. He loved to garden and had a “green thumb”. Paul had a wonderful sense of humour, and was always ready with a joke. He was an active member of the Army, Navy, and Airforce Veterans at the local, provincial and national levels. Predeceased by his parents, Margaret and Jim Tkachuk, he will be sadly missed by his wife Elsie, and son Brian (Kim) and their family Jeremy, Bryn, and Christy (Kurt) Bredeson; sister Reta (William) Matisz – Regina, and brother Walter (Gloria) Tkachuk – Resource, SK; and many nieces and nephews. The Celebration of Paul’s life will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Wednesday May 11, 2011 at 1:30 pm. Della Ferguson will officiate. Memorialization will take place at Sunset Cemetery. Memorials to the Cancer Ward 3B, Pasqua Hospital, 4101 Dewdney Ave., Regina, S4T 1A5, would be appreciated. In living memory of Paul, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. DOROTHY GILLIES
Dorothy Gillies (nee Clark ) passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Wednesday October 7, 2009. Dorothy was born on June 20, 1922 in Moose Jaw where she lived all her life. Grandma Dot, as she was known by those who loved her most, will be remembered as a caring mother, a confidant to her grandchildren and a proud great-grandmother. Dorothy was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and was fortunate to have many special friends who she enjoyed playing bingo and cards with throughout her life. Predeceased by her husband Don Gillies; Dorothy is survived by her daughter Dianne, sons Doug (Susan) and Clark (Pam); eight grandchildren Holly (Norm), Nora (Jamey), Allison (Ryan), Courtney (Bart), Matthew (Jennifer), Jocelyn (Joe), Brooke (Angelo), Brianna (Justin); and four great-grandchildren Charlie, C.J., William and Autumn. A Memorial Tea to celebrate Dorothy’s life will be held at St. Andrew’s United Church Social Hall on Wednesday October 14, 2009 from 2 – 4 pm. Flowers are graciously declined. BRIAN JOSEPH BRATTAN
Brian Brattan passed away peacefully with his family by his side, on August 19, 2010 at the age of 73 years. Brian is predeceased by his parents, Joseph and Mary Brattan. Brian is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Erika, three sons: Kelvin (Yvonne) of Moose Jaw, Gary (Laura) of Moose Jaw, and Dean (Juli) of Orangeville, ON; five grandchildren, Adam, Nicole, Joel, Madison and Curtis. Brian was born in Moose Jaw on August 17, 1937. He worked for KR Tracey Construction, until he moved on to the City of Moose Jaw where he worked for 25 years. Although he worked a regular full time job in the city, his true love was farming. He and Erika farmed in Dunkirk for over 20 years. In his retirement, Brian loved to travel with his wife Erika. They spent many winters exploring the southern United States in their motor home. A memorial service will be held on Monday August 23rd at 2:00 p.m. at W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca Street E, Moose Jaw. Father Rick Krofchek will be the celebrant. A private family interment will be held at Rosedale Cemetery at a later time. BETTY ANN BEATON
It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Betty Ann Beaton at the age of 72. She was predeceased by her father (John), mother (Isabella) and brother (Cliff). She is mourned by her niece Sandra (Michael), nephew Robert, sister-in-law Bunny and many cousins. The Butlers and all the staff at Fifth Avenue Jewelers will mourn the loss of a beloved 25 year veteran of the company. She loved the Butlers as family, who treated her with great care and respect. The celebration of her life will be held after the interment of her ashes in May 2010. JOAN TIMMS
Joan B. Timms (nee Cutting) was born July 13, 1923. She passed away at Chez Nous, Tuesday, October 26, 2010 at the age of 87. She served in A.T.S. Auxiliary Territorial Service from 1941-1945 in Great Britain. Stationed at Fighter Command Uxbridge where it’s underground (100 foot) complex was known as the “HOLE” which Churchill himself visited during the height of the Battle of Britain. Mom married R.J.(Bob) Timms, the love of her life, on June 3, 1945 in Great Britain. She came to Canada aboard the “ Aquitania ”, March 1946. She was Charter Regent of Jervis Bay Chapter I.O.D.E. Predeceased by her beloved Bob in 1989 (they had such a happy marriage); also her parents and only brother Arthur. She is survived by daughter, Nadine (Ross) Hagerty, granddaughter Jill (Evan) Schwabe; son Gregg (Rita), grandsons Bartt (Brandi), Marc, and Derek, and special great-granddaughter Ella. Her family was everything to her – she cared about them so much and they brought her great joy. Also surviving are special brother-in-law, Terry Timms; sister-in-law, Elaine Cutting; many nieces, nephews and dear friends. The Funeral Services will be held at W. J. Jones and Son Chapel on Monday November 1, 2010 at 1:30. Della Ferguson will officiate. A private family memorialization will take place at Rosedale Cemetery. Mom moved into Chez Nous Senior Citizens Home in September 2008. She loved the staff as they were so generous and kind and cared deeply about her. Special thanks to the staff at Chez Nous, Dr. Miller and Dr. Sanderson. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice. DONALD FROST
Donald Frost of Moose Jaw passed away on Sunday January 16, 2011 at the age of 80 years. Don was born in Moose Jaw on June 25, 1930 to Lucy and Percy Frost and grew up in the Mitchellton district. He was a farmer and school bus driver for many years. On March 29, 1958 he married Elaine Schmidt of Mossbank and they had two children, Ronnie and Laurie. Don enjoyed dancing, bowling, playing shuffleboard, and watching sports on TV. He had a great love for his wife, children and grandchildren. In 1997 they moved to Crestview Manor. He did many jobs to help out around the apartment. He will be remembered as a great friend and neighbour. “His quiet mannerism”, “He was one of the nicest men I knew”, “He will certainly be missed”, are all attributes he has earned. Predeceased by his father Percy in 1975, his son Ronald in 1978, and his mother in 2009, Don is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Elaine; daughter Laurie Fraser, sisters Pauline Hack and Gloria Thompson, and grandchildren Kyle and Sydney Fraser. Don was such a good person and he will be sadly missed. The Celebration of Don’s life will be held at Minto United Church on Friday January 21, 2011 at 1:30 pm. Reverend John Carley will officiate. Memorialization will take place at Sunset Cemetery. In lieu of cards and flowers, memorials to the Moose Jaw Health Foundation, 455 Fairford St. E., Moose Jaw, S6H 1H3, would be appreciated. KEN TOWNEND
KEN TOWNEND of Moose Jaw passed away Tuesday, June 15, 2010 at the age of 70 years. Ken was born in Moose Jaw June 24, 1939 and married Leone McKenzie on March 31, 1962. They farmed in the Mount Pleasant District until his passing. He belonged to the Chester Rural Telephone Company, Moose Jaw Cosmopolitan Club, Moose Jaw Coin Club, Sask. Wheat Pool Committee, Cosmos Centre and was a long time volunteer at Moose Jaw Exhibition Company (gates). Ken attended Mount Pleasant United Church and Minto United Church. Predeceased by his parents, Walter and Marjorie Townend, mother and father-in-law, Leonard and Verna McKenzie, special uncles, Charles and Frank, as well as numerous extended family members. Ken is survived by his wife, Leone, daughter, Susan (Peter), son, Ian; grandchildren: Shaun Townend, Riley and McKenzie Copeman-Townend, Jamie and Jessie Copeman and their mother, Bonnie; brother, Doug (Elaine); nephews: Kelly, Russ (Susan) and their children, Amanda and Zachary; and James (Laurie) and their daughter, Madison; brothers-in-law: Keith McKenzie and Dennis (Penny) McKenzie; nieces: Nadine (Corwin) Cave, Cassidi, Ashton, Shae-Lyne and Joline (Ron) Palmquist, and Leighton; aunt, Molly Day. Ken will be remembered for his quiet strength and dry sense of humour. A Celebration of Ken’s Life will be held on Friday, June 18, 2010 at 2p.m. at Minto United Church, 1036 - 7th Ave. N.W. Reverend John Carley will officiate. Memorialization will take place at the family plot in the Moose Jaw Cemetery.
