NANCY MEIKLE
Nancy Jane Meikle was born in Moose Jaw, on March 2, 1955 and passed away in Moose Jaw on April 8, 2010. For most of the intervening years, she lived life to the fullest and travelled and worked in many parts of the world. Nancy is predeceased by her father Robert Meikle; her grandparents Matle and Ted Housego and James and Vera Meikle; all of her father’s siblings and by her cousins Marilyn Pruysers and Theresa Foster. She is survived by her mother Vivian Meikle and sister Pat Aldred (Malcolm) of Moose Jaw, sister Sandra Nichol (Shane) of Calgary, sister Judy Fredeen (Edward) of Medicine Hat, brother Rob Meikle (Cathy) of Winnipeg; brother Bill and his mother Jane Meikle of Edmonton; uncle Ian Housego (Billie) and aunt Irene Meikle of Vancouver. Auntie Nancy adored her nieces and nephews Brodi (Pam), Riel and Merran (Jesse) Aldred; Aaron (Bryanna, Daniel) Nichol; Michael (Cathy, Logan, Jaxon) Nichol and Tristan, Keisha, Caitlin and Garrett Fredeen. Also left to mourn are many cousins and their families and “extended family” from many parts of the globe. We happily shared our Nancy with countless friends and families around the world, many of whom she visited with over the past year as she lived with her illness. Nancy studied nursing in both Winnipeg and Victoria, trained as a midwife in Wellington, New Zealand and studied in Townsville, Australia to obtain a master’s degree in Public Health and Tropical Medicine. She participated in the health care and human services fields for the majority of her career. She worked at nursing stations in many communities in the far north; volunteered with community development projects in Vietnam, Zimbabwe, Laos, Cambodia; worked as a nurse at the special care baby unit (SCBU) and the emergency department of Nelson Hospital in New Zealand and instructed nursing students both in New Zealand and most recently on behalf of Dalhousie University, in Iqaluit, Nunavut. As a family, our lives have been enriched by both exciting and daring vicarious experiences and for the opportunities she created for us to join her in many far off destinations. We also had the privilege to expand our own circles of friends. We enjoyed the company, and often the hospitality, of her myriad of friends – while visiting in their countries or, as we happily extended hospitality on her behalf when she would direct friends to stay with her family if they happened to be visiting Canada. Many thanks to Dr Geyer, the staff of the Union Hospital in Moose Jaw, Home Care staff, the Allan Blair Cancer Centre in Regina and the Nelson (New Zealand) Hospital for your care and concern during Nancy’s recent illness. A gathering to celebrate Nancy’s life will be held at St. Andrew's United Church on Friday April 16, 2010 at 2:30 PM. Her cousin Gail Clark will preside. Flowers are graciously declined by the family, however for those who may wish to make a donation to a charity in remembrance of Nancy, please consider the Canadian Cancer Society, 61B Ross St. W., Moose Jaw, S6H 2M2 or Save the Children, Canada - 4141 Yonge Street, Suite 300, Toronto, Ontario M2P 2A8, (or New Zealand branch). As her uncle Ian Housego so eloquently wrote “she was a beautiful human being given over to helping others through their trials and tribulations and also through their happy times. She was admired, respected and loved by people far and wide”. In living memory of Nancy, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

GLEN ARTHUR HELSON
It is with the greatest love and profound sadness that we say goodbye to a Husband, Dad and Grandpa – Glen Arthur Helson. Glen was born in the Kincaid Hospital on March 26, 1936 and spent his childhood years on the family farm south of Kincaid in the Bona Place School Area. After leaving Kincaid, he continued his education at Caronport and then at Central Collegiate. In Moose Jaw, Glen was employed by the Saskatchewan Government Telephone Company in October 1955 and retired from SaskTel after 35 years of service. Glen was married to his best friend and “honey", Angela Koch, in 1961. His ideal family was complete with the birth of their son, Todd, in 1970. He enjoyed travelling, but was happiest with his family around, be it at their cottage at Buffalo Lake or keeping his chair warm in front of the television. We will be forever grateful to Dr. G.B. Van Heerden, all staff on the medical floor of the Union Hospital, and staff in Home Care and Palliative Care Services. Your support and wonderful care during these past two years has been a blessing. Glen was predeceased by his parents T. Arthur Helson (1955) and A. Jane Helson (1971); and by his father-in-law Frank Koch (1991) and mother-in-law Olga Koch (2004). He is survived by his wife Angela; son Todd and his wife Pamela; granddaughter Alexa, and grandson Nicholas. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Saturday December 11, 2010 at 2:00 pm at Emmanuel Lutheran Church in Moose Jaw with Pastor John Kreutzwieser presiding. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make contributions may do so to the Moose Jaw Union Hospital-Home Care/Palliative Care Program to assist with training and equipment. Memorialization has taken place at Prairie Memorial Columbarium. In living memory of Glen, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.
