MILDRED STEELE

It is with great sorrow that the family announces the death of MILDRED HAZEL STEELE, 93, on Tuesday, February 15, 2005 following a short stay in hospital and Pioneers Lodge. Mildred was born and raised in Parkbeg July 27, 1911, received her education at Kelly School north of Parkbeg and finished her schooling in Aldergrove, B.C. and Edmonton, Alta. before returning to Parkbeg where she married Milton (Casey) Steele January 17, 1933. Mildred was a long-time member of the United Church of Canada, most recently belonging to Zion United Church in Moose Jaw. In Parkbeg she was responsible for the organization of the Sunday School and served as superintendent for many years. She also organized and led baby and mission bands, Explorers, CGIT and Vacation Bible Schools. She served as secretary-treasurer of Zion United Church in Parkbeg for many years, was a member of the Ladies Aid, Women’s Missionary Society and United Church Women and was president of the Moose Jaw and area Presbyterial of United Church Women. She is currently a life member of Zion UCW in Moose Jaw. She was also a member of the Woman’s Christian Temperance Union. Mildred and Casey moved to Moose Jaw in 1972 and resided in Grafton Manor where she continued to live, enjoying the many friends she made up and down Coteau Street. In the past 10 years Mildred kept busy knitting, entering many prize-winning exhibits in the Hometown Fair, and provided a variety of knitted items for her friends and family. At the time of her death she had already completed most of her entries for this year’s fair. Mildred was predeceased by her husband, Casey in October 1994; by her parents, Durward and Clara Castiday; grandson, Patrick Steele; sisters: Iva Johnson and Dorothy Smith and brother, Walter Castiday, and several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and other relatives. She is survived by her son, Roscoe (Marcene) Steele; daughters: Marlene Steele and Joyce (Ron) Walter – all of Moose Jaw; grandchildren: Gerry (Debbie) Dyck of Balgonie, Scott (Chris) Steele of Fort Saskatchewan, Alta., Rod (Arlis) Dyck of Strathmore, Alta., Reg (Marion) Dyck of Slave Lake, Alta., Calvin Dyck of Calgary, Jim (Lynnette) Steele of Edmonton, Angela (John) Bird of Moose Jaw and Candy Steele of Calgary; great-grandchildren: Dustin, Shaun, Megan, Paige, David, Ana, Carly, Jared, Sontona, Jaqualene, Ryen, Eryck, Jamie, Lindsay and Josh. She is also survived by sisters: Flossie Andrews of Sherwood Park and Verna Hughes of Carnduff, sister-in-law, Ruby Davey of Moose Jaw, and special nephew, Les and Alma Steele of Edmonton, as well as numerous other nieces, nephews and cousins. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 19, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw. Della Ferguson will officiate. Interment will take place at Rosedale Cemetery. Memorials for the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund, c/o 268 High St. W., Moose Jaw, S6H 1S8 would be appreciated. In living memory of Mildred, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

EDWARD “TED” BELSEY

MR. EDWARD “TED” BELSEY, retired Moose Jaw Fire Chief, passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2006. Born February 21, 1917 in Moose Jaw, Ted served in the Royal Canadian Navy from 1943 - 1945. He was also a member of the Moose Jaw Fire Department from 1940 - 1982, serving as Fire Chief for twelve years. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, and Life Member of Moose Jaw & District Seniors. Ted enjoyed music, golf, curling, gardening, lawn bowling, painting, playing the organ and singing. Predeceased by son, Glenn Belsey; brother, Harry; sisters: Alice, Maggie, Jessie and Jenny, Ted is survived by his wife of sixty-nine years, Rita; daughters: Sharon (Paul) Ziehlke, Laurel (Bernard) Schaan, and Debra Belsey; daughter-in-law: Lilian Belsey; grandchildren: Jill (Joe), Jodene (Peter), Alison, Ian (Somanta), Aaron and Justin; great-grandchildren: Jeannine, Roger, Catherine, Ashley, Charlotte, Natalie, Duncan and William; sisters-in-law, Eve Passmore and Carmel Passmore. The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. Memorials to the Moose Jaw Firefighters Burn Fund, The Canadian Cancer Society or to the Moose Jaw & District Seniors would be appreciated. In living memory of Ted, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

ROBERT JAMES BROWNE

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Browne on March 1, 2009. Bob was born April 17, 1913 and was raised in the Findlater/Chamberlain area. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during WWII. In 1945 he married Thora Finlay and they had two children, Carmen in 1949 and Margaret in 1953. They moved to Regina in 1966, returning to Chamberlain in 1972. He was involved in many community activities and enjoyed time spent at their cabin at Lovering Lake. Later they moved to Moose Jaw, where Bob enjoyed many activities and socializing at both the Cosmos and Moose Jaw & District Seniors clubs. Bob loved sports and in his younger days in Chamberlain played hockey and baseball. Later in his life he spent many hours at sports days as well at Ross Wells Ball Park. He also had season tickets to the Moose Jaw Warriors for a number of years and enjoyed attending games here as well as on road trips with the Warriors booster club all over western Canada. Bob is predeceased by his parents, Jim and Laura Browne; brothers Ken and Claude; sisters Evelyn, Leila, Marguerite, Edith and Helen. He is survived by his wife Thora, son Carmen (Lynne), daughter Margaret (Walter), sister Dorothy Patterson, grandchildren Jennifer (Hart) Tejada, Jill (Troy) Fee, Logan Hjelte, James (Lana) Nation, great-grandchildren Jovie Tejada, Hayden and Emmett Fee, Grace and Lucas Nation, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. The Service of Remembrance will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Saturday March 7, 2009 at 3:30 pm. Reverend David Moore will officiate. Memorialization will take place at Regina Memorial Gardens at a later date. Memorials to the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund, 268 High St. E., Moose Jaw, S6H 1S8, or to a charity of choice, would be appreciated. In living memory of Bob, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

VIOLET PEELING

Violet Annie Peeling of Moose Jaw, passed away on May 5, 2009, at the age of 101 years. Violet was born November 22, 1907 at Pierson, MB. She married Robert Peeling in 1931 and they farmed at Spring Valley until 1964 when they retired to town. Violet moved to Moose Jaw in 1978. She was a charter member of the Saskatchewan Home Maker’s Club, a member of Branch Five and Secretary for the Saskatchewan Seniors. She was a very active club worker. Violet knit during the War and was still knitting dishcloths at 100 years old. Predeceased by her husband Robert Henry Peeling in 1974, her parents Lucy and Fred Draper, and a great-granddaughter, Violet is survived by three children: Robert (Donna); Mae (Dan) Zaremba; and Grant (Wilma); seven grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. The Funeral Service will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Friday May 8, 2009 at 3:30 pm. The Reverend Deacon Arleen Champion will officiate. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Moose Jaw Health Foundation, 455 Fairford St. E., Moose Jaw, S6H 1H3, would be appreciated. In living memory of Violet, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

AUDREY MANTACH
July 15, 1934 – January 6, 2009

Audrey passed quietly away January 6, 2009 at age 74. Born in Moose Jaw to Earl and Ida Good, she grew up on a farm in the Mayberry area of Southern Saskatchewan. She married Robert Mantach June 29, 1957 and had four daughters, Laurie, Brenda, Andrea, and Tracey. Audrey enjoyed her family and running their family businesses. For many years they ran and looked after the concession at the Optimist Ball Park. She was active with Jobs Daughters, Zion United Church, and teaching Sunday School. She is predeceased by her parents, Earl and Ida; siblings Jackie and Herbert; and nephew Robert Ames. Left to remember Audrey, her family: husband Bob; sister Beth (Chuck) Ames and family; children: Laurie (Russell) Lunde, Brenda, Andrea, and Tracey (Len); grandchildren: Winter (David Owen), Marshall, Bridie, Madison, Jesse, and Dallas; and great-grandson Avyn. A Celebration of Audrey’s life will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Friday January 9, 2008 at 3:30 pm. Della Ferguson will officiate. Memorialization will take place at a later date. Memorials to the Sask. Lung Association 1231 8th St. E., Saskatoon, S7H 0S5. In living memory of Audrey, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

ELAINE BROADIS

ELAINE BROADIS of Moose Jaw passed away peacefully Thursday, September 4, 2008 at the age of 84 years. Elaine loved to cook, take care of children, listen to music and to walk. Predeceased by her husband, Walter, sister, Marion; and brothers: Gordon and Dwayne, Elaine will be sadly missed by her sons: Ken (Mildred), Keith and Richard (Brenda), daughter, Sharon (Allan); grandchildren: Dionne, Andrea, Justin and Chelsea; great-grandchildren: Tamara and Tyson. Three brothers: Darrel (Delois), Calvin (Edna) and Lyle (Lois); nine sisters: Joyce, Donna, Candace (Ron), Mavis (Bruce), Doreen (Duane), Carolle (Ray), Gladys, Beverly (Al), Patricia, as well as many nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E, Moose Jaw. Jim Atcheson will Officiate. Burial will follow at Sunset Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday evening 7-8 p.m. at the Funeral Home. For those so wishing, memorial donations may be made to the Saskatchewan Heart & Stroke Foundation, 2360 – 2nd Ave., Regina, S4R 1A6 or to the Alzheimer Association, #301 – 2550 12th Ave., Regina, S4P 3X1. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Capilano Court, Extendicare, and Dr. Dautremont for the care Elaine received. In living memory of Elaine, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

IRENE ANDREWS

MISS IRENE ANDREWS, age 73, passed away in Moose Jaw on March 27, 2005. Irene was born on December 18, 1931 in the Crestwynd District. Predeceased by her parents and a brother, Lawrence, she is survived by her brother, Allan (Florence) of Regina and four nephews: Gregg, Randy, Brent and Gary. A private graveside service will be held with interment at Rosedale Cemetery. Reverend Frank Mitchell will officiate. In living memory of Irene, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.
