SHERAN QUON

Sheran Quon, of Moose Jaw, passed away at Pioneer’s Lodge on October 1, 2007. Sheran was born in Hoi Ping, Guangdong, China on June 21, 1931. She came to Canada and married Barry in 1959. They lived in Avonlea and Shaunavon before settling permanently in Moose Jaw. She worked at Canaday’s Apparel until retirement enabled her to pursue her passions of gardening, being a full time grandma, sewing, knitting, crocheting and cooking. Predeceased by her father, Dear Wai Hong, she is survived by her mother, Chow Jai Jung; husband, Barry; four children, Norman (Sheila) – Edmonton, Judy – Moose Jaw, Henry (Lenis) – Vancouver, Corinne (Tim) Abellera – Toronto; and six grandchildren. The Funeral Service will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Friday October 5, 2007 at 2:00 pm. Della Ferguson will officiate. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. Memorials to the Moose Jaw Health Foundation, Palliative Care, 455 Fairford St. E., Moose Jaw, S6H 1H3, would be appreciated. In living memory of Sheran, a tree will be planted by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

RHONDA BOYES

RHONDA BOYES passed away October 17, 2006. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2006 at 3:30 p.m. in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel. Cremation will follow with memorialization in Winnipeg at a later date. Visitation for family and friends will be held Friday 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home. In living memory of Rhonda, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

RICK PIERCE

RICK PIERCE passed away suddenly while vacationing in the sun in Rio de Janeiro on Monday, May 7, 2007 at the age of 49. Born in Central Butte September 30, 1957 he received his education in Moose Jaw at William Grayson, Palliser Heights and Central Collegiate, graduating in 1975. Rick graduated from SAIT in 1977earning a diploma in Hotel and Restaurant Management. He then graduated from University of Regina in May 2000, earning a Bachelor of Arts – Political Science degree. As Owner/Manager of Hopkins Dining Parlour, Rick had been there since 1978 when the home was purchased. He oversaw the design, restoration, opening and successful operation of this unique restaurant since that time. He had a keen sense of business, was a unique, engaging, individual, contributing to his community of Moose Jaw which he loved. He has had well over 1500 employees since opening and many have gone on to become prominent business people – and his help was useful we are sure. Rick traveled the world to seek adventure, satisfy his love of history and world politics. Predeceased by his father, Wayne (January 14, 2006); grandparents: Ben and Gladys Hughes of Chaplin, Clarence and Vera Pierce of Moose Jaw. Rick will be sadly missed by his family: mother, Gladys, brother, Todd (Barb), and nieces: Samantha and Paige, as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins, and numerous friends all over the world. Following cremation, a Celebration of Rick’s Life will be held at Minto United Church, 1036 7th Ave. N.W., Moose Jaw on Sunday, May 20, 2007 at 2 p.m. Della Ferguson will be the celebrant. Memorialization will take place in the family plot, Rosedale Cemetery at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations will be gratefully accepted in Rick’s memory to the “Save Mac the Moose” fund. Please make cheques payable to City of Moose Jaw and send to Tourism Moose Jaw, 450 Diefenbaker Drive, Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, S6J 1N2 or donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 61B Ross St. W., Moose Jaw, S6H 2M2. In living memory of Rick, a tree has been planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

JEAN VEALE

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Jean Isobel Veale of Moose Jaw and Stony Beach. Jean passed away August 24, 2005 at the age of 85 years. She is predeceased by her husband, Andrew Lorne Veale June 5, 2001, a sister Helen in 1917, brother Lorne in 1929, brother Rea in 1986, and sister Vera in 1998. She is survived by her son, Robert, his wife Candis, and grandson Matthew of Hermiston, Oregon; brother Norman (Vivian) Laidley of Duncan, BC; sister-in-law Nell Laidley of Edmonton; sister-in-law Eugenie (Ken) Bobier of Calgary; and many special nieces, nephews and friends. The Funeral Service will be held at Zion United Church on Monday, August 29, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. Reverend Molly Kitchen will officiate. Interment will follow at the Stony Beach Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials to a charity of choice would be appreciated. In living memory of Jean, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

ADELE JOEL

ADELE SPETZ JOEL (nee Grant) of Central Butte, Saskatchewan was called by the Lord to eternal life on October 21, 2003 . Born in Belcourt, North Dakota on May 17, 1911, to Charles and Vitaline Grant, Adele came to Canada with her parents, first to Togo, Sask. and then to Kamsack, Sask. She married Edward Spetz on September 6, 1936, and raised five children. They left Kamsack in 1938, and after several moves settled in Riverhurst in 1950. In the fall of 1985 they moved to Central Butte . Edward passed away in 1989. In 1991, Adele married Everett Joel of Elbow. The last four years were spent in the Central Butte and District Regency Manor. Adele was predeceased by her parents; two brothers: George and Lawrence; two sisters: Josephine Vaughan and Edna Wheeler, her first husband, Edward Spetz, a daughter-in-law, Gladys Spetz and a son-in-law, Steve Komar. She is survived by, and will be sadly missed by her husband, Everett Joel; two sons: Lawrence (Sharon) Spetz of Qualicum Beach, B.C. and Raymond Spetz of Moose Jaw; three daughters: Elaine (John) Mytopher of Riverhurst, Jo-Ann (Cyril) Shooter of Riverhurst and Lois Komar of Cupar, Sask.; eighteen grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Adele was an active member of the Altar Society, the Co-op Guild, the rink auxiliary, and the Rebekah Lodge. She loved to sew, knit, crochet and garden; enjoyed music and doing puzzles. The Funeral Service will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Central Butte, Sask., on Saturday, October 25, 2003 at 1p.m. Father Michael Conteh will officiate. Interment will follow at the Central Butte Cemetery . Pallbearers will be grandsons: Bill Spetz, David Spetz, Malcolm Mytopher, Michael Shooter, Graham Shooter and Kevin Komar. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Canadian Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 1061, Moose Jaw, Sask., S6H 4P8 or to the Central Butte Regency Manor, Central Butte, Sask., S0H 0T0 would be appreciated. In living memory of Adele, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by Prairie Memorial Funeral Home, Chaplin/Herbert, Sask.

HELEN & ED ELFORD

The family of Helen and Ed Elford are saddened by the deaths of their parents as the result of a traffic accident on Saturday January 28, 2006. They shared many wonderful times together and were inseparable during their 65 years together. They have lived in various communities including, Horse Creek, SK, Willen, MB, Moosomin, SK, and finally to Moose Jaw where they came to be closer to Helen’s parents and their brothers and sisters. They are predeceased by their parents: Laura and Mervyn Goodwin, Russell and Annie Elford, and infant son Larry; Ed’s brothers George and Cliff and his sisters Ruby and Pansy. Ed and Helen are survived by their loving children: Dale (Kathy) – Carman, MB; Lloyd (Ruthanne) – Manson, MB; Sharon (Mandry) – Regina; Calvin (Mary) – Estevan; Neita (Nestor) – Regina; Cheryl (Ian) – Balgonie; and Russell (Melissa) – Edmonton; nineteen grandchildren, twenty-eight great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Helen’s immediate family: Evelyn Aasen – Coronach; Muriel Jacobs – Vernon, BC; Gordon (Mildred) Goodwin – Weyburn; and Irene (Cal) Young – Moose Jaw. Ed’s immediate family: Chet – California; Edna (Arnold) Knutson – Glentworth; Eva McCutchen – Portage la Prairie; Ada McBride – Moose Jaw and Melvin (Sandra) Jacobs – Estevan; and many nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be held at the Alliance Church, corner of 9th Ave. NW and Thatcher Drive, on Thursday February 2, 2006 at 1:30 pm. Ron Hegdahl will officiate. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery. The family invite you to join them at W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home on Wednesday evening 7 – 9 pm for an opportunity to be together. Memorials to the Church of Christ, 901 James Street, Moose Jaw, S6H 3H5, or to a charity of choice, would be appreciated. HELEN "NELL" CROSSMAN (nee Marshall)

The family of Helen (Nell) Crossman are saddened to announce her passing on Thursday April 12, 2007 at the age of 91. She passed peacefully with her family by her side. Nell was born in Dundee, Scotland on December 19, 1915. She met Harry as a serviceman during WWII and they were married in 1942. Nell came to Canada as a war bride in 1946 bringing with her two younger sisters, Vina and Rhona. Nell and Harry settled on the family farm south of Balcarres. They moved to Moose Jaw where she has resided for over 50 years. Nell was employed at the Providence Hospital for 25 years in the Maternity Ward (Nursery). She was known to many as “Scotty” “Crossman” or “Auntie Nell”. Upon retirement Nell and Harry enjoyed several trips back to her beloved Scotland to visit the Marshall Clan. Her most recent trip was the summer of 2005. When Harry’s health failed, Nell unselfishly cared for him at home for many years. After Harry’s passing in 1999, Nell continued a happy and active life. Her family meant the world to her and she never missed a family gathering. She enjoyed her yard, her monthly trips to Casino Regina with her friends, and her fat cat “Boots”. Aunt Nell’s door was always open for a spot of tea and her famous homemade shortbread cookies. Nell was very active in the War Brides Association and a member of St. George’s Anglican Church. She is predeceased by her parents, Robert and Eliza Marshall; husband of 57 years, Harry; brothers, David, Robert, Norrie, and Albert – all of Scotland; sister Rhona Kay and husband Doug of Montreal; and brother-in-law, Alex Millar of Scotland. Nell will be lovingly remembered by her sisters, Rachel Millar – Scotland, and Vina (Laurence) Dick – Moose Jaw and their family, Dianne Kolybaba (Glen Callfas) – Regina; Ken Dick; Gail (Barry) Smith and Sandra (Tom) Rogers – Moose Jaw; nieces, Judy (Boris) Temchenko, Heather MacDonald, and Alana Farrell and their families – Montreal; sisters-in-law, Muriel and Flo Marshall of Dundee, Scotland; and numerous nieces and nephews in Canada and Scotland. She will always have a special place in the hearts of her great-nieces and nephews, Angela (Barry), Brad, Lori, Tamra (Brad), Jill, Kailey, Samantha, Jaden, Kaylen, and Alysia, whom she loved so dear. The Funeral Service will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Wednesday April 18, 2007 at 1:30 pm. Reverend Betty Bradley will officiate. Interment will follow in the Veteran’s Section Rosedale Cemetery. Memorials to the Moose Jaw Humane Society, Box 1658, S6H 7K7, or the Sask. War Bride Association, 1932 York Street, Regina, S4T 4R4, would be appreciated.
