UTE SOOKER

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ute on Wednesday February 28, 2007 at the age of 66 after a long battle with cancer. Ute was born October 26, 1940 in Dessau/Anhalt, Germany. She was predeceased by her parents Rudolph and Frida Streuber; sister Mimmie Thiele and brother Rudolph Streuber. She is survived by her husband of 49 years Wolfgang; children and grandchildren Peter (Carol) Sooker- Jodel and Aron; Connie (Laurence) Ackerman - Nicholas, Landon and Rylan. She is also survived by sister Anneliese (Gerhart); brother Hermann (Renate); brother-in-law Werner; sister-in-law Petra; special Aunt Gretchen; and also many nieces, nephews and cousins in Germany. Ute immigrated to Canada on September 4, 1957 with her parents and two brothers. She met Wolfgang in Regina and they married July 27, 1958 . Her parents and brothers then returned to Germany. Ute worked numerous jobs until 1981 when she began working in the Hallmark store in the Town and Country Mall. In 1987 she became owner/manager until her retirement in 2001. For many years Ute belonged to the Kinsmen-Kinette organization, and the K-40-K-ette's where she was president and volunteered many hours. She enjoyed travelling, gardening, crafts, baking and most of all spending time with her five grandsons. Ute's wishes were to have a Celebration of life which will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Family Centre on Saturday March 10, 2007 from 2 – 4 pm, with a time of reflection and remembrance presented by Della Ferguson, beginning at 3 pm. Memorialization will take place at a later date in her hometown of Dessau/Anhalt, Germany. Flowers gratefully declined, friends so wishing many make donations to the Moose Jaw Union Hospital Foundation, 455 Fairford St. E., Moose Jaw, S6H 1H3. In living memory of Ute, a tree has been planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

DR. YVONNE PEARSON

DR. YVONNE PEARSON of Moose Jaw, passed away suddenly on July 1, 2007. Following a private family graveside service at Sunset Cemetery, friends are invited to share in Remembrances of Yvonne’s Life on Friday, July 6, 2007 at 2 p.m. at the W. J. Jones & Son Family Centre, 262 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw. Family and friends are welcome to stay and join the family for further time of refreshment and fellowship. In living memory of Yvonne, a tree will be planted by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

BETH WIGMORE

Mrs. Beth Wigmore, devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend, died April 23, 2003, at Moose Jaw in Pioneers Lodge at the age of 88. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Dr. Fred H. Wigmore (March 19, 1999). Beth, daughter of Percy and Edith Atherton of Sussex, New Brunswick, was the middle of 5 children: Charlie, Alice, Beth, Joyce and Bob. She is survived by her loving brother, Bob Atherton and his wife, Ruby, of Chester, Nova Scotia, and her sisters-in-law: Adelaide Weekes and Mildred MacDonald of Prince Edward Island. “Polly” is lovingly remembered by her children and their families: Barrie (Deedee) Wigmore of New York City; Barbara (Dennis) Latham of Victoria and their children: Allison of Los Angeles, and Dr. Warren (Dr. Clare Atzema) of Toronto; Marjorie (Don) Lenz of Toronto, and their children: Sarah Lenz (Grant Welstead), Laura Lenz (Brad Hicks) and Emily Lenz; Connie Wigmore of Vancouver; Dr. Fred (Heather) Wigmore of Moose Jaw and their children: Patrick, Katie and Jocelyn. Beth leaves behind in Moose Jaw her cherished life-long friend, Mrs. Evelyn Heal, and the fellow members of the Moose Jaw P.E.O International Sisterhood. Beth graduated in 1935 with her BA from Dalhousie University, Halifax, Nova Scotia, after which she taught Latin at Sussex High School, New Brunswick. In October 1939, she married Fred and came directly to Moose Jaw. Their first child was born in 1941. For over 60 years, Beth enjoyed her memberships in and contributions to several civic, religious, social and charitable organizations. She was a long time member of St. Andrews United Church, and the oldest member of the Moose Jaw Chapter of the P.E.O International Sisterhood. She was a proud Moose Jaw booster throughout her life. Following cremation, a Memorial Service will be held at St. Andrews United Church, Saturday, April 26, at 11:00 am. Reverend Peter Calhoun will officiate. Flowers are gratefully declined. Contributions to The City of Moose Jaw Cultural Centre in Beth’s name would be gratefully appreciated. In living memory of Beth, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

VICTOR ALFRED PALANYK
July 21, 1929 – June 21, 2009

Mr. Victor Alfred Palanyk of Moose Jaw passed away peacefully at Providence Place on Sunday, June 21, 2009, at age 79. Vic was born in Moose Jaw on July 21, 1929 to Sam and Kate Palanyk, the only brother to Violet and Verna. He will be remembered by his four children, Shelly, Victor, Kim and Cassandra, their spouses, five grandchildren, and five great-granddaughters. Vic is also survived by numerous other extended family. He enjoyed growing his garden, cooking, music and the mysteries of his computer but Vic’s greatest joys were his animals. A Celebration of Vic’s Life will be held on Thursday, June 25, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel. Reverend David Moore will officiate. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. Memorials to Providence Place Foundation, 100 – 2nd Ave. N.E., Moose Jaw, S6H 1B8 would be appreciated. In living memory of Victor, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

FRANCES O'HEARNE

Frances “Fran” Edna O’Hearne, passed away peacefully at the Moose Jaw Union hospital on Monday, January 18, 2010 at the age of 91. Fran was born July 21, 1918 in Saskatoon. She and Don celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary January 1, 2010. Fran is predeceased by parents, Herbert and Hilda “Bea” Divers; sisters Dorothy Bacon, Marjorie Cavell and brother Cecil Divers. She is survived by her husband Donald, daughters Donna (Jack) Pick and Sharon, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren Holly (Scot) Pedersen, and their children Camryn, Carleigh and Chayse; Korwin (Afton) Pick, Errin Pick, Nicolle (Daryl) Moreau and their son Keerin; a sister Winnifred Craig of Saskatoon; and brother-in-law Lawrence Bacon. She was very active in sports. Fran enjoyed her flower garden and the beauty of a well kept yard. Fran was active in regards to the Royal Canadian Air Force – former 601 Wing Air Force Association auxiliary, life time member of Timothy Eaton Center and a former member of the Eastern Star. Fran took great pride in all the activities of her children and grandchildren and she will be remembered by all the acts of kindness she did for them. A Memorial Tea and Celebration of Fran’s life will be held at W. J. Jones and Son Family Centre, 262 Athabasca St. E., Friday, January 22, 2010 from 2:00-4:00 pm. At 3:00 pm a Formal Reflection of her life will be celebrated with Della Ferguson as the celebrant. A private cremation with memorialization will be held at Rosedale Cemetery. For those wishing memorials can be made to the Diabetes Association, 917 Albert Street, Regina S4R 2P6. In living memory of Fran, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

CONNIE MAXINE O'BRIGHT

Connie Maxine O’Bright (nee Doyle) of Saskatoon, SK passed away on Thursday June 17, 2010 at the age of 63 after a long battle with emphysema. Connie will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her two daughters, Helen Itcush and Gail O’Bright, both of Saskatoon; one son, Joe O’Bright, Saskatoon; her two granddaughters, Lisa and Kara Itcush, Saskatoon; brothers-in-law Bill Roach, Saskatoon and Dave (Jane) O’Bright, Moose Jaw; sister Shirley Doyle, Moose Jaw as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Connie was predeceased by her husband Stephen in 1992, her parents, one brother and two sisters. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday June 23rd at 1:30 pm at W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, with Father Louis Kim Nguyen officiating. Connie will be laid to rest beside her husband at Rosedale Cemetery. For those so wishing please give generously to the Sask. Lung Assoc., 1231 8thSt. E., Saskatoon, Sk, S7K 0S5 or Kinsmen Telemiracle Foundation, 2217C Hanselman Court, Saskatoon, SK, S7L 6A8. ELGIN HOWE

ROBERT “ELGIN” HOWE passed away surrounded by family on Monday, August 22, 2005 at the age of 83 years. Born January 7, 1922 to Oswald and Elizabeth Howe at Mitchelton, Saskatchewan. His family farmed in the Mitchelton district. Elgin received his education at Stayner and Mitchelton schools. After school he worked at home on the farm with his father and on other farms in the area. He married Lottie Dale on November 30, 1946 in Moose Jaw and together they celebrated 54 years of marriage.They first moved to the family farm at Mitchelton, then to the outskirts of Moose Jaw in 1950 where he worked with his brother-in-law, Colin. In 1950 he purchased the Baildon farm where he resided until his passing. His sons joined the farm operation and later his grandson, Mike. Tanya and Kelly pitched in to help out with the farm whenever they returned for a visit. Elgin was an avid sports fan, enjoying all sports on T.V. He was predeceased by his wife, Lottie in 2001, infant daughter, Karon in 1954 and brother-in-law, Colin Mitchell. Elgin is survived by his sons: Doug and Dale (Lois), grandchildren: Tanya (Rob), Mike, Kelly (special friend, Julie-Anne), sister, Eileen Mitchell; brothers: Gordon (Doreen) Howe and Ron (Dolores) Howe as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families. Elgin’s life revolved around family and the farm. Family and friends were very special to him and he attended many family gatherings. Elgin and Lottie enjoyed square dancing. His three grandchildren held a very special place in his heart and he looked forward to their visits. He opened his home to family, friends and neighbours for the daily coffee gathering. He took a keen interest in the farm and always kept up to date with the farming activities. The Funeral Service will be held at Zion United Church, 423 Main St. N., Moose Jaw on Thursday, August 25, 2005 at 2:30 p.m. Reverend Molly Kitchen & Linda Owens will officiate. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to a charity of one’s choice. In living memory of Elgin, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.
