ELIZABETH (BESSIE) SCHWANKY passed away peacefully on April 9, 2009 at the age of 96 years. Born in the Herbert, Saskatchewan area on November 23, 1912, she was predeceased by her husband Ed in 1998, daughter-in-law, Annie Merle in 2000 and eldest son Richard in 2005. Bessie is survived by her daughter Marion (Gord Boyle) of Moose Jaw and son Mel (Yvonne) of Calgary; eight grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren and fourteen great-great-grandchildren. After Ed’s retirement in 1964 they moved to Moose Jaw where Bessie worked at The Rack Men’s Wear as a Seamstress for many years. After Bessie retired, she enjoyed volunteer work at Pioneer Lodge and visitations to cancer patients, both in the Hospital and at their homes with Cancer Mount, of which she was a member. Bessie also belonged to the Minto United Church Social Group for many years. Although Bessie’s family meant the world to her, more importantly she meant the world to us. She will be remembered for her tender, loving and giving heart, her smile, her laughter and her zest for life which made her truly a treasure to all who knew her. Cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Bessie’s Life will be held on Friday, May 1, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chateau St. Michael’s Social Hall, 525 – 7th Ave. S.E., Moose Jaw. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 61B Ross St. W., Moose Jaw, S6H 2M2. In living memory of Bessie, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. W. CLIFF CLOTHIER
William Clifford Clothier of Moose Jaw passed away on Friday March 24, 2006 at the age of seventy-eight years. Cliff was born at home in the Archive district January 21, 1928. He was a life time member of the Moose Jaw Elks Club #7 and an associate member of the Moose Jaw Army and Navy Vets. Cliff is predeceased by his Mom and Dad, Dorothy and Grenville Clothier and a brother and sister in infancy. He is survived by his wife Muriel (Mert); Aunts, Cousins and their families. At Cliff’s request no funeral service will be held. After cremation a private family memorialization will take place in the Garden of Peace at Sunset Cemetery, Moose Jaw. No flowers please. Memorials may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association – 917A Albert St. Regina, S4R 2P6 or the Canadian Cancer Society – 61B Ross St. W. Moose Jaw, S6H 2M2. MURIEL DAHL
Muriel Theresa Dahl of Moose Jaw passed away on August 24, 2006 at the age of eighty-nine years. Muriel was born on September 28, 1916 in Stokesley, England. She came to Canada at an early age with her parents. They lived in various locations in Saskatchewan where her parents operated boarding houses. Muriel married Kenneth Dahl in 1945 the couple resided in Regina before settling in Moose Jaw in 1960. She worked at Kresges, Neuman’s Bakery and the Post Office. In later years they traveled extensively throughout Canada and the United States. Predeceased by her husband: Kenneth Harland Dahl; her parents: Frederick and Clara. Muriel is survived by a daughter: Maureen (Jim) Turner – Lethbridge; Grandsons: Lee (Jennifer) Turner – Kelowna; Jason (Jillian) Turner – Lethbridge; Darren (Amanda) Turner – Medicine Hat; Adrian (Sarah) Turner – Lethbridge and a sister: Gladys Roberts – Wynyard, seven great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. The Funeral service will be held at the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel on Tuesday August 29, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. Interment will take place at Regina Memorial Gardens. MARGARET MEYER
With great sadness, we announce the loss of our loving mother and grandmother, Margaret (Spate) Meyer on April 18, 2007. Margaret was born July 16, 1930 and raised in the Flowing Well district by Christian and Marie Spate. Margaret enjoyed school, softball and basketball. She attended Normal School in Moose Jaw and her first teaching position was in Redvers. She later returned to her hometown of Morse to continue her teaching profession. She married Wilfred Meyer in October 1953. They had three children, Larry, Laurie and Leanne. Margaret was a dedicated teacher, homemaker, mother and grandmother. Her children and grandchildren meant everything to her and she was always there to help in any way. Margaret was predeceased by her husband, Wilfred (1998) and her grandchildren, Krista Brand and Eric Poncelet. She is survived by: Larry (Fay) Meyer, Rosalynn, Stewart and Andrew of Morse; Laurie Brand, Cara and Ian of Saskatoon; Leanne (Aaron) Poncelet, Adam, Nicole and Shae-Lynne of Saskatoon; sister, Irene Binner of Moose Jaw, brother, Ted Spate of Morse; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, April 24, 2007 at the Morse Community Hall, at 2:00 pm. Pastor John Duerksen will officiate. Interment will follow at the Morse Cemetery . JIM McNAB
It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of JIM McNAB on February 15, 2004, with his family by his side. Jim was predeceased by his dad, Victor, mother-in-law, Eva Wood, his sister, Irene Murray, beloved grandson, Cody Schneider, aunt and uncle, Ethel and George Turner. Jim will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife, Joan McNab, mother, Margaret McNab, son, Bill (Lori) Schneider of Hilda, AB, daughter, Nina (Donnie) Rochford of Moose Jaw, son, Ken McNab of Exeter, ON, daughter, Susan McNab of Moose Jaw, Lynne McNab of Hawaii and special grandchildren: Missy and Tessa Rochford; grandchildren: Tanya and Jesse Schneider, Jason and Justin Rochford, one great-granddaughter, Alexzandria Burke, his brother, Ron (Shirley) McNab of Moose Jaw and two nieces: Linda Bennett and Rhonda Boyko. MILDRED "Mid" LOFGREN
MRS. MILDRED “MID” LOFGREN passed away in Moose Jaw on August 29, 2003 at the age of 73 years. Mildred was born in Moose Jaw and grew up here. She married Delmar Lofgren December 25, 1948 in Moose Jaw and the couple resided in Moose Jaw until 1953 when they moved to make their home in Ontario and Quebec. In 1980 they returned to Saskatchewan, eventually retiring in Moose Jaw. She enjoyed country music and the opportunity to enjoy dancing. Mildred cared for her family dearly and will be greatly missed by all. Predeceased by her parents, her husband, Del, one son, Eric and her sister, Faye, Mildred is survived by her two brothers: Dennis and Wayne Webb; three sons: Martin (Charmaine) – Saskatoon and their family: Serena and Meghan; Brian (Sharon) – Hamilton and their family: Cheryl, Delmar and Brian Jr.; David (Linda) – Toronto and their family: Timothy and Daniel; two daughters: Denise (Robert) Crowe – Toronto and their family: Jeremy and Jason; Kimberly (Barry) Young and their family: William, Shannon, Rocky, Catlin and Shyla; five great-grandchildren: William, Kathleen, Dylan, Stephanie and Nathen. Following cremation, A Celebration of Mid’s Life will be held at the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, September 3, 2003 at 3:30 p.m. with Reverend Betty Bradley officiating. Family memorialization will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Alzheimer Association, #301–2550–12th Ave., Regina, Sask., S4P 3X1 would be appreciated. ETHELLYNN STRATFORD
It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, ETHELLYNN MARGARET STRATFORD on Tuesday, January 27, 2009 with family at her side. Mom was born June 7, 1917 on the farm south of Caron. She loved the outdoors and the farm. In her early years she was a tom-boy, growing up with her brother Les. They rode horses everywhere and if there was something to attend they went on horseback. Mom and her sisters lived on the family farm near Caron and attended Sweet Grass School and Royal George. She married Bill McHolm and they had three sons: Bill, Gordon and Ted. At that time they lived west of Moose Jaw. In later years mom married Henry Stratford and they had a son, Barry. Henry had one daughter, Shirley. They resided on the farm at Buttress, later retiring to Moose Jaw, then to Pioneer Village. At the time of her passing she was residing a Pioneer Lodge. Predeceased by her husband, Henry in May 1999, son, Bill – September 2003, daughter-in-law, Edna McHolm – 2004, son, Barry – September 2007, granddaughter, Linda Hutchinson – January 2002; sisters: Rosemond Dykstra and Hilda Krause, and brother, Leslie Andrews. Left to mourn her passing is her daughter, Shirley (Grant) Hutchinson; sons: Gordon (Eileen) McHolm and Ted (Peggie) McHolm; sisters: Ruth McIntyre, Bernice Austin, Violet (Paul) Sapergia, Darlene (Ed) Kitzul, Olive Russell, Marilyn Nielson and brother, Ivan Andrews, step-mother, Helen Andrews; sixteen grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their families, and many friends. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, January 31, 2009 at 1:30 pm in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel. Reverend Dave Moore will officiate. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery.
