MR. JOHN WILLIAM HARRY YAMNIUK passed away Saturday, February 1, 2003 at the age of 82 years. Born at Hendon, Saskatchewan in 1920, John has been a resident of Moose Jaw all his life having worked with Redi Mix Concrete for many years. John enjoyed gardening and caring for his yard. He always enjoyed having visits from the grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents, one brother, Paul; three sisters: Mary, Polly and Kate. John is survived by four sons: Mervin (Linda) - Calgary, Alvin (Arlene) - Moose Jaw, Brian (Pauline) - Moose Jaw and Michael – Regina; two daughters: Darlene LeBrique- Fort McMurray, Alta. and Gloria (Ken) Dean – Moose Jaw; twelve grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; two brothers: Joe and Pete as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Private family funeral services will be held at the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel. Deacon Yurij Lazurko will officiate. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. Memorials to the Canadian Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 1061, Moose Jaw, Sask., S6H 4P8, would be appreciated. In living memory of John, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. VERNE ANDERSON
MARCH 19, 1938 - JUNE 15, 2008
Verne R. Anderson (Clutch) passed away on June 15, 2008 at Pasqua Hospital, Regina, after a courageous battle with pneumonia. Verne was born March 19, 1938 at Paradise Hills, Sask. He was employed with Sask. Government for 35 years. Verne will be sadly missed by his wife Helen; their sons Jeff (Karen) - Toronto, Marvin (Darlana) - Regina; his son Dan (Korin) - Ruckle, Ontario; grandchildren: Kyle (Nicole) - Mississauga, Ont., Pte. . D.J.L. Anderson - serving in Afghanistan, Josh (Colleen), Matthew, Katherine, all of Ontario; brothers and sisters - Harvey (Mary Lou), Mel (Joyce), Roland (Irene), Judy Haysom (Harry), Bev Horwath (Richard), Bruce, Gary, Elaine Marshall, Victor, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and one brother. No funeral service will be held. Burial of cremated remains will be held at a later date.
HOWARD HILBERT THORMAN HAUG
We regretfully announce the passing of Howard Haug, Sunday February 13, 2005. Howard was born on June 20, 1913 at Expanse, Saskatchewan, one of four children and the only son of Elling Theodore and Maria Jacobina Haug. Howard was raised on his parents farm located northwest of Mossbank, Saskatchewan and attended Green Bay School. When Howard was 16 he left home to work as a farm hand. Seven years later he was hired as a mechanic for Howden's Garage in Mossbank. Howard was a natural mechanic and machinery operator, and eventually took over the garage renaming it Mossbank Motors. During this time, Howard also farmed his parents land. In 1940 he married Alice Louise Moir, and they had two children, Moir Dee and Karen Irene. In 1949 Howard returned to farming full time, taking over the John Moir farm, west of Mossbank. Howard continued farming until he retired in 1978. Howard was always active in the cooperative movement and joined the Board of Directors of the Mossbank Co-op in 1936, serving as President for 26 years. During that time he also spent several years as a Cooperative District Advisor and Delegate for the Federative Co-operative (FCL). Howard also served as a Director of the Assiniboia Savings and Credit Union and was on the advisory board for the Mossbank Branch of the Credit Union. His contributions to the community also involved his participation as a Councilor for District 1 of Sutton RM No. 106, Sutton Lake Johnson Union Hospital board-member, first president of Mossbank Foods and vice-president of the Moose Jaw Scandinavian organization. In 1987 he received the Co-operative Certificate Award of Merit from the Saskatchewan Co-operatives Activities Council in honour of his service to the cooperatives in the Province of Saskatchewan. Howard was predeceased by his wife Allie; his parents; his three sisters; Irene Haug, Florence McKee and Bertrude Wilkenson. Surviving Howard are his son Moir, daughter-in-law Corrine, daughter Karen, son-in-law Dale Jolly, grandchildren Dean Jolly (Christine Novosel), Elling Haug (Jocelyn Thrasher-Haug), Garth Jolly (Erin), Kristine Haug (Blair Panasiuk), Deanne (Shawn Kenyon), Ian Haug and Avery Haug, as well as great-grandchildren Harisson Howard Haug, Taylor Dean Allie-May Jolly and Sasha Bonnie Corrine Haug. A Memorial Service will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel, Moose Jaw, on Wednesday, February 16, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. Reverend Frank Mitchell will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Heart and Stroke Foundation, 2360 2nd Ave., Regina, S4R 1A6, would be appreciated. In living memory of Howard, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. NELLIE GRKOVICH
MRS. NASTIA “NELLIE” GRKOVICH, age 94, of Moose Jaw, passed away on Wednesday, July 18, 2007. Predeceased by her parents, her husband, George, a brother, Alec and a sister, Elsie, Nellie is survived by her sisters, Betty and Mary as well as many nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, July 20, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. in the Providence Place Chapel, 100 – 2nd Ave. N.E. Reverend Father Michael Conteh C.S.Sp will preside. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. A Prayer Service will be held Thursday evening (July 19) at 7 p.m. in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel. Mrs. Edna Marion Beaudry of Moose Jaw passed away on Friday January 16, 2004 at the age of eighty-eight years. Edna was born in Moose Jaw on August 19, 1915. She is predeceased by her husband, Alphonse; a sister Grace, a brother, William and infant great-grandson, Matthew. Edna is survived by her family, her son Dave (Mary) – Moose Jaw; four grandchildren: Garry; Larry (Sherri); Barry (Kelly) and Michelle (Shawn) Fortin; eight great -grandchildren and one great-great- granddaughter, as well as a sister Audrey in Maryland, USA. A private family Service of Remembrance will be held. Cremation has taken place and memorialization will follow at a later time. Rev. Frank Mitchell will officiate. GARRY "BENNY" BENSON
It is with sadness that we said goodbye to Garry on May 10, 2004, but we are so grateful that he has finally gone “Home”. Garry was predeceased by parents Ervin and Violet Benson, brother Roy and nephew Jamie. Left to remember him are: Donna, his wife of 40 years; daughters: Lorraine and Gordon Knox and Sherri Benson; grand-daughters: Carly and Vanessa Knox; brothers: Lyle and Linda Benson and Dennis and Linda Benson; nieces and nephews: Christine and Ivan Lissel (Joelle and Kienna), Steven, Loralee, Jason, Mark and Scott; mother-in-law, Mamie Schnell; and special pets Maggie, Odie and Archie. We wish to thank the many caregivers who have been so kind to “Benny” and his family; the nurses and staff at Providence Place, Dr. W. Geyer, and the friends who have been so supportive over the past few months. The Funeral Service will be held at Minto United Church, 1036 Seventh Ave., N.W. on Thursday May 13, 2004 at 1:30 pm. PHYLLIS M. SCHLUETER
Phyllis Schlueter formerly Fessler, nee: Challis. On Monday September22, 2003 Phyllis May passed away peacefully with family by her side, after a courageous battle with ALS. Predeceased by parents, James and May Challis, a brother, Roy Challis, mother and father-in-law, John and Vera Fessler (Gladys Fessler), a sister-in-law Thelma Elder and brother-in-law, Ken Coward. She is survived by her second husband, Stillman Schlueter and her five children; daughter; Connie Fessler; sons: Ron (Joanne) Fessler, Ken (Edith) Fessler, Terry (Lori) Fessler, Brad Fessler and special friend of the family Penny Edwards. She has eleven beloved grandchildren. Phyllis is also survived by many brother and sister-in-laws and their families. Phyllis was born in Limerick, Sk. on February 15, 1924 she took her schooling in Eyebrow, Saskatchewan. Upon moving to Moose Jaw Phyllis got married and had her family. After several moves the family settled in Drinkwater, Sk. where she served as Town Clerk and Postmistress from 1973-1990. In 1996 Phyllis married Stillman Schlueter and they have been residing in Moose Jaw, SK. A Memorial Service will be held at the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel on Friday October 10, 2003 at 1:30 p.m. will officiate. Memorialization will follow at the Rosedale cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the ALS Society.
