ALCIDE HERVE JOSEPH (SID) CARIGNAN of Moose Jaw, passed away on November 23, 2006 at the age of 81. Alcide was born on January 2, 1925 in Ponteix, Saskatchewan. The military was a big part of Alcide’s life. He fought in WWII with the 1st Canadian Airborne, came back to Saskatchewan, married Dorothy Owen and tried farming for awhile but soon rejoined the PPCLI and went off to fight in the Korean War. The family were then posted to Calgary, Hemer/Germany, Victoria, Saskatoon and then Moose Jaw where Alcide became the recruiting officer. Alcide was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the Army, Navy and Air Force Veterans Association of Moose Jaw. He was severely injured in an auto accident in 1962 which left him a quadriplegic. With the love and support of his family, he continued to reside in his own home until January when he moved to Providence Place. Predeceased by his parents, Edouard and Marie Anna (Lallier); sisters: Alice, Rita and Suzanne, and brother, Henri, Alcide is survived by his loving wife, Dorothy, and four daughters: Diane (Bill) Harrach, Louise (Lannie) Erickson, Lorraine (Len) Fagan, and Vivian (Bud) McAllister; grandchildren: Allan, Mike, Lana, Kim, Donna, Joanne, Debbie, Angie and Tanya, as well as nine great-grandchildren. Alcide is also survived by his brothers: Laurent, Emile (Leona), John (Margo), Maurice, Raymond (Mary Jeanne), and Louis (Iona); his sisters: Lucille Ferland, Denise (Remi) St. Cyr, Gisele Carignan, Rollande (Mike) Kucik and Helen (Don) Shanner; brother-in-law, Roland Bellefeuille, as well as numerous extended family. A Service of Remembrance and Celebration will be held in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw on Tuesday, November 28, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. Della Ferguson will be the celebrant. Royal Canadian Legion Funeral Rites will be conducted at the Chapel by Roscoe Steele, Moose Jaw Branch #59. Memorialization will take place privately at the Veterans Section, Rosedale Cemetery. INEZ BEESLEY
Inez Helen Beesley (nee Thompson) of Black Diamond passed away peacefully on August 14, 2006 at the Oilfields General Hospital in Black Diamond, Alberta. Inez was born August 2, 1915 on the family farm at Riverhurst, Saskatchewan, the youngest daughter to Donald and Mary Thompson. She was a long time resident of Moose Jaw and district before moving to Alberta in December of 2005. Inez was an accomplished pianist and taught music for a number of years. She was also a seamstress. She married Eldon Beesley on October 4, 1939 and they farmed the family farm until retiring in 1980, they had one daughter. Inez was a member of the St. Andrews United Church, a life member of the Royal Purple Lodge #9 as well as the Senior Citizens Club. Inez is survived by her daughter Cheryl (Morris) Rathwell, granddaughter Terry- Lee (Shane) Gretz, grandson Chad Rathwell and great grandchildren Zachary and Chloe Gretz and Gillian Rathwell. She is predeceased by her loving husband Eldon, her parents Donald and Mary Thompson, sister Ruby Miller and two brothers William and Clifford. In Celebration of Inez’s Life a memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 23, 2006 at 11:00 in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca Street East with Linda Owens officiating. Phyllis Ellen Ingleby of Pioneers Lodge, Moose Jaw. Beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away March 2, 2004 at the age of 81 years. Born May 28, 1922 and raised in the Gallilee district, she moved to Moose Jaw in her late teens residing there until her passing. After WW II she met and married Ernest 'Red' Ingleby in April 1946. A kind gentle soul, Phyllis took great pride and enjoyment in her old time dances, her garden and flowers and her friends and family - especially her grandchildren and great-grandson. She was predeceased by her parents, husband, 'Red', brother, Bud and sister, Matti. Left to cherish her memory are one son, Art (Theresa) – Regina; two daughters: Sherry (Garry) Mihalicz - Saskatoon and Kathy Ritchie (Hess Boschma) – Wabamun, AB; six grandchildren, one great-grandson, her sister, June Mitchell - Moose Jaw and many nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be held at the W. J. Jones and Son Chapel at 1:30 on Friday March 5, 2004. Rev. John Carley of Minto United Church officiating. LAWRENCE HOWLETT
LAWRENCE RICHARD HOWLETT of Calgary, passed away at Rocky View Hospital on August 13, 2004 after a short illness at the age of 72 years. Lawrence was born April 10, 1932 in Regina and was the eldest child of Wilfred and Nellie Howlett of the Baildon district. He was raised on the family farm and took his schooling at Red Lake and Camalache. In 1958 Lawrence joined the Armed Forces and served in Germany and Egypt with the United Nations. Upon returning he took up residence in Calgary and worked as a security guard until his retirement. He lived a quiet life upon retiring. Lawrence was predeceased by his father, Wilfred in 1985, mother, Nellie in 1989 and brother, Earl in 1991 and infant brother, Ernest in 1936. Lawrence is survived by his sister, Pearl Howells (Bill) of Mankota, Sask., brother, Douglas Howlett (Marie Emma) of Vancouver, B.C.; nephews: Dwayne Howells (Shawna) and family of Medicine Hat, Paul Howlett of Toronto and niece, Joanne Kress (Merlin) and family of Mankota, Sask. Following cremation in Calgary, a private family graveside service and interment will be held at Sunset Cemetery, Moose Jaw. Reverend Frank Mitchell will officiate. MR. CECIL ARMSTRONG of Moose Jaw passed away November 19, 2007. Predeceased by six brothers, Cecil will be sadly missed by two sisters, Cecilea and Evelyn; four brothers: Ralph, Walter, Albert and Ed, as well as many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw on Monday, November 26, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. with Della Ferguson officiating. Burial will take place at Rosedale Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held Sunday afternoon, 2-4 p.m. at the Funeral Home. CLIFFORD BAILEY
On Sunday February 18th, 2007 Clifford Lorence Bailey passed away at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital after celebrating his 104th birthday twelve days ago. Clifford was born February 6th, 1903 in Melita, Manitoba. He is survived by his beloved wife Hazel. At Clifford’s request there will be no funeral service. A reception to celebrate his life will be held at the Timothy Eaton Centre in Moose Jaw on Friday February 23rd, from 2:00 to 4:00pm. MARY MARTEL
Mary Martel age 87, a long time resident of Moose Jaw, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2008 at Extendicare. Mary is predeceased by her husband, Adolph “Duffy” Martel, and her son George Martel. She is survived by three daughters; Barbara Parker and Yvonne Brzak of Red Deer, AB, and Sheila Mokry of Oshawa, ON; 22 grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mary will be dearly missed and will live in our hearts forever. A private family memorial will be held in Red Deer.
MARGARET BABICH
It is with great sadness that the family announce the passing of Margaret Babich of Pioneers Lodge, Moose Jaw. Margaret died peacefully December 12, 2007 at the age of 85 years, after a lengthy battle with several illnesses. She was born February 21, 1922 at Limerick, Saskatchewan. Margaret was predeceased by her parents Adam and Caroline Linkert, three sisters, two brothers, son - Brent, and husband - John. She is survived by her children: Sandra (Jim) Russell – Saskatoon; Randy (Brenda) – Moose Jaw; Marla (Tom) Gamble – Moose Jaw; Bette Jayne (Stephen) Pope – Regina; sisters: Freda Foster – Calgary; Yvonne Tyler – Chaplin; grandchildren: Shauna (Don); Laurie, Natasha (Chad), Nathan, Jayson, Laura (Steven), Stephanie; great-grandchildren: Matthew, Kendall, and Tessa; and numerous nieces and nephews. Margaret attended Central Collegiate, Normal School, and took her lab tech training at the Providence Hospital, Moose Jaw. She taught school in Mazenod and Rouleau, Sask. She went on to be employed at the Associated Medical Clinic, Moose Jaw. Margaret married John Babich, June, 1945 and together they raised five children. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking, bowling, and canning. Margaret was a member of the Anavets Ladies Auxiliary 252 for many years. She loved music, dancing, bingo, needlework, gardening, outdoors and baseball. Margaret took great delight in being with her family. She came to live at Pioneers Lodge May 21, 2003. Margaret was dearly loved by her family, friends, relatives and staff. The Service of Remembrance will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Saturday, December 15, 2007 at 1:30 pm. Linda Owens will officiate. Private Family interment will take place at Sunset Cemetery, a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Alzheimer Association, #301 – 2550 12th Ave. Regina, S4P 3X1, or to Pioneers Lodge, 1000 Albert St., Moose Jaw, S6H 2Y2, would be appreciated.
