Lorna Meryl Steele (nee: King) of Moose Jaw, came to rest at peace after a long and courageous battle with cancer at Moose Jaw Union Hospital Saturday, October 10, 2009 at the age of 79 years. Lorna was born on a farm in Parkbeg, SK August 6, 1930. She was predeceased by son Gordon in 2006; three brothers: George in 1953, Richard in 1970, and Herbert in 2009; her daughter-in-law Gaylene Steele in 2005 and one grandson Travis in 2006. She is survived by her daughter Judy Blair - Moose Jaw, SK and son David (Karen) - Fort St. John, B.C.; five grandchildren: Shannon (Danny) Koch – Balgonie, SK, Michael Blair- Weyburn, SK, Julia (Andrew) Martin - Vancouver, B.C., Marcia Steele - Vancouver, B.C., Janelle Steele - Abbotsford, B.C. and three great-grandchildren: Brynne, Logan and Kayli. One sister Shirley Allen – Regina, SK, one sister-in-law Lila King – Outlook, SK and two brothers: Garnet (Daphne) King – Honeymoon, B.C. and Roy (Diana) King – Victoria, B.C. Lorna will be sadly missed for the love, joy and understanding she brought to her family and friends throughout the years. Funeral Services will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel on Saturday, October 17, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with Della Ferguson officiating. Interment will take place at Chaplin Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held Friday evening (October 16); 7-9 p.m. at the funeral home In lieu of flowers, memorials in Lorna's name may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 61B Ross St. W., Moose Jaw, S6H 2M2. GLADYS WIELTCHNIG
Gladys Gertrude Wieltchnig, passed away at the age of 87 years in the Golden Hospital . She was born and raised in Moose Jaw, where she was also married. Gladys, a loving mother of eight children also resided in Calgary for a number of years where she continued to raise her family. Gladys and her husband, Henry retired in Invermere, BC . She has been a resident of the Henry Durand Manor in Golden for the past two and a half years. She is predeceased by her daughter, Shirley in 1943, and her husband, Henry in 1987. She is survived by her sons: Doug (Donna), and Ken; daughters: Diane ( Gary ), Rose (Scott), Bonnie (Craig), Pauline (Doug), and Liz; thirteen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and sister, Joy Ford – Penticton, BC . A Memorial Service will be held at the Family Plot, Rosedale Cemetery on Thursday, April 8, 2004 at 1:30 pm . Dave Moore will officiate. Those wishing to attend may meet in parking lot at W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home at 1:15 pm . In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, 2360 Second Ave., Regina, S4R 1A6, would be appreciated. ERNEST ALLEN
Ernest Redvers Allen, of Moose Jaw, passed away February 27, 2007 at the age of 84 years. Ernest was born June 23, 1922 in Kerrobert, SK, the youngest of five boys born to Walter and Emily Allen. He loved being on the farm. In his career, Ernie worked for the Wartime Pricing Commission, MacDonald's Consolidated and the Co-operative Association. He happily married Margaret Isabel Simmons in 1945. They lived in North Battleford, Moose Jaw, Weyburn, Luseland, Biggar and Innisfail, AB before moving back to Moose Jaw in retirement. Wherever they lived, Ernie and Issy were involved in their children's lives, their church, Masons, Job's Daughters, the United Appeal, the Arthritis Society and others. They loved to dance, go for walks, hockey games in Weyburn, get together with friends and family, tell a few jokes and then play a card game. Ernie was devoted to Isabel's care throughout her years suffering from arthritis. He was inspiring in that dedication. Sadly, Isabel died in 2003. Ernie leaves behind one brother, Walter, of Calgary, AB. He will be missed by his three children: son Clint (Diana); daughter Margaret (Randy) Udahl; son Kent (Kathy); grandchildren: Cynthia (Craig) Berry; Carla (Todd) Markus and their daughter Isabelle June; Lauren and Dominic Allen; members of the Simmons family and many friends. We are comforted knowing he goes from family to family. The Celebration of Ernie’s life will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Monday March 5, 2007 at 1:30 pm. Father Dennis Dickson will officiate. Memorialization will take place at the Columbarium, Sunset Cemetery. Memorials to the Sask. ANNIE YANISH of Moose Jaw, passed away January 13, 2004 at the age of 91 years. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 16, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. in the Extendicare Activity Centre, Moose Jaw . Reverend Frank Mitchell will officiate. ROSE CUNDALL
ROSE CUNDALL, beloved wife of Alfred Ian Cundall, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 9, 2003, at Avonlea Villa in Avonlea, Saskatchewan. Ian was at her side. She was 88 years of age. Rose is survived by her husband, Ian of Avonlea Villa; daughters: Larralyn (Dave) McKay of Kinmount, Ontario, and Ann Cundall of Milden, Saskatchewan. She also leaves three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Prior to her retirement, Rose was a registered nurse at the former Valley View Centre and later at Moose Jaw Union Hospital. Rose was active as a leader with Girl Guides in Moose Jaw for a few years. Prior to moving to Avonlea Villa, she was a member of Cosmos Senior Citizens Centre. Rose’s main pastime was dancing. She and Ian spent many years spreading the “joy of dance” in Moose Jaw and surrounding area. Rose and Ian called, cued and danced with several square dance clubs in and around Moose Jaw for several years. Rose cued round dancing for the Rose-ettes Round Dance Club, which was named after her by its original founding members. As well, Rose instructed ballroom dancing throughout the Moose Jaw district for many years, and she will be fondly remembered by many as “the lady who taught us to dance”. In keeping with Rose’s request, no funeral service was held. Private burial took place at Sunset Cemetery on Tuesday, May 13, 2003. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that those who wish to join in the celebration of Rose’s life may send donations in her memory to The Avonlea Villa Staff Fund, c/o Avonlea Villa, Box 239, Avonlea, Saskatchewan, S0H 0C0. This fund is organized by the staff for the purpose of projects and activities to benefit the residents of Avonlea Villa, where Ian continues to reside. RUSS KING
It is with sadness we announce the sudden passing of Russell Raymond King Russ on April 2, 2003. Russ was born July 30, 1923 in the Bridgeford district where he chose his life's work of farming until he retired to Central Butte. Russ was predeceased by his wife, Ila in 1989; mother, Gladys in 1941; father, Raymond (R.J.) in 1977; and brother, Phillip in 1941. He is survived by sisters, Reta (Herman) Ridge - Saanichton, B.C.; Dorothy (Erle) Wilson - Moose Jaw; brothers, Tom (Marge) King - Central Butte; Walter (Joy) King - Vernon, B.C.; children: Eddie (Margaret)King - Esterhazy; Bob (Anita) King - Lucky Lake; and Cindy King - Saskatoon; grandchildren: Carrie, Deidre, Ryan, Melissa, and Melanie; as well as many nieces and nephews. In accordance to his wishes, Helen Reid will conduct a family memorial service at the Tugaske Community Hall on Wednesday, April 9, 2003 with a time of fellowship open to all friends to follow at 2:30 pm. Memorialization will take place at the Tugaske Cemetery. Memorials to the Alzheimer Association, #301 - 2550 12th Ave., Regina, S4P 3X1, would be appreciated. FLORRIE WILCOCK
Florrie Wilcock passed away on January 28, 2004 at the age of 89 years, after a lengthy illness. Florrie was born on the family farm north of Mazenod on May 18, 1914. At the age of 17, she left home to do housework in Limerick and then in Moose Jaw. After some time, she travelled to Victoria, BC where she was employed at the Empress Hotel. Later, Florrie went to work in another CP hotel, the Royal York in Toronto and was there when the second World War began. She left the Royal York to work in the John Inglis Bren Gun Factory. She then returned to Sask. and worked at Prairie Airways doing work on planes, but found the climate too cold, so she returned to Vancouver to enlist in the Canadian Women’s Army Corps. Florrie was stationed in various places in BC (Vancouver, Vermilion, Chilliwack, Coquitlam and Sardis). She was a wonderful cook, so was soon requisitioned to work in the officer’s mess. When the war ended, she worked at another CP hotel, the Saskatchewan Hotel in Regina. The army had advised her to get a job as a dietitian, but instead she owned and managed stores in Moose Jaw and Medicine Hat until she retired to the farm at Mazenod to care for her aging parents. Florrie spent several more years housekeeping for her brothers before moving to Moose Jaw. Her last years were spent at Extendicare where she appreciated the loving care given to her by the staff. She is predeceased by her parents, Hannah and Robert Wilcock; sisters, Doris Langstaff and Norah Pederson; brothers, Edgar, and Ernest Wilcock; brothers-in-law, Fred Langstaff, Ross Pederson, and Roy Gunningham; sister-in-law, Margaret Wilcock; and nephew, Robert Wilcock. She is survived by her brother, Robert Wilcock; sister, Edith Gunningham; and several nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Monday, February 2, 2004 at 1:30 pm. Reverend John Gardner will officiate. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. Memorials to the Alzheimer Society, #301 – 2550 12th Ave., Regina, S4P 3X1, or the Canadian Cancer Society, 223 Fairford St. E., Moose Jaw, S6H 0E1, would be appreciated.
