FLORENCE GRINDLEY

Florence Annie Grindley, nee Horton, of Regina, previously of Moose Jaw, passed away October 29, 2004 at the age of 88 years. Florence was born November 14, 1915 in Moose Jaw. She is predeceased by her parents, two brothers and her husband, Lee Grindley in 1992. Florence and Lee were married November 4, 1939 . She is survived by her daughter, Leora (Tom) Sukarukoff – Regina; three granddaughters: Katherine (Curt) Junior – Regina, Debbie Lee (Mitch) Davis – Regina, Donna Lee (Chris) Peterson – Edmonton; grandson, Bradley (Natasha) Sukarukoff – Calgary; and three great-grandchildren: Balin Davis, Macy Lee Davis, and McKenna Peterson. She is also survived by three sisters-in-law, Rheva Horton and Dona Horton - Moose Jaw, and Lorna Martin – Woodstock, ON; and nieces, nephews and cousins. Florrie’s life has always been dedicated to her family and her church. Her greatest joys and memories were of trips with her husband, Lee and trips with family; the many birthdays, graduations and weddings of loved ones. Her most recent joy was to attend her grandson’s wedding in Calgary a short time ago on September 5, 2004, and to visit with relatives there. Some of Florrie’s activities included Brown Owl and tester for the Brownie and Guide Association, Anglican Church Women’s Auxiliary, Alter Guild, Moose Jaw Camping Club, Eaton’s Senior Centre – darts, floor shuffle board and cards. Other leisure activities were stitchery, crafts and reading. Most recently she has enjoyed the companionship of new friends at the Bentley in Regina. Florrie will be greatly missed and forever remembered by her family and friends. The Funeral Service will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Thursday November 4, 2004 at 2:00 pm. Reverend James Buenting of All Saints Anglican Church Regina will officiate. Interment will follow at the Veteran’s Section, Rosedale Cemetery. Memorials to the Sask. Heart & Stroke Foundation, 2360 2nd Ave., Regina, S4R 1A6, would be appreciated. In living memory of Florrie, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

LEONARD McCARTHY

LEONARD OMAR McCARTHY, born September 9, 1934 in Eyremore, Alberta, passed away Wednesday, July 14, 2004 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Leonard worked as a Trainman/Conductor for C.P. Rail besides farming south of Moose Jaw. He was an active member of the Optimist Club for over thirty-five years and after his retirement played weekly at the Duplicate Bridge Club. Predeceased by his father, Fred and an infant sister, Leonard is survived by his wife, Sheila of Moose Jaw, daughter, Jacqueline (Jim) Cooper and children: Carli and Johnathan – all of Tugaske, son, Ken (Dangiu) and children: Mechan and Alison – all of Ottawa, son, Don (Carmela) and children: Garrett, Colton and Braydon – all of Creston, son, Murray (Terry) and children: Alexandra, Erika and Olivia – all of Sherwood Park, Alberta, his mother, Viola of Vauxhall, Alberta; brothers: Leo (Arlene), Dennis (Gail) and Donald (Lisa); sisters: Marguerite (Dean), Myrna, Ella and Erika as well as many nieces, nephews and an aunt, Hilda. The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, July 16, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. from the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, Moose Jaw. Reverend John Gardner will officiate. For those so wishing, memorials may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 61B Ross St. W., Moose Jaw, S6H 2M2 or to the Allan Blair Cancer Clinic, 4101 Dewdney Ave., Regina, S4T 7T1. In living memory of Leonard, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

ALMA DONEY

Alma Beulah Doney (Fortman) went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, December 4, 2006. She was born to William and Lavina Boyd at home near Louisa, Quebec on February 16, 1918, the youngest of a large family. In the late 1940’s Alma moved to Saskatchewan to join family members. In December 1951 she married Earl Fortman who passed away in June 1990. In 1991 she married Ralph Doney who passed away in February 2002. Alma enjoyed her last two years at Ina Grafton Gage Home. Alma is survived by her family: Etta (Bill) Froats and family, Robert (Shirley) Fortman and family, Betty (Robert) Whiteman and family, Gordon (Nancy) Doney and family, Mike Darling, Pam Yamniuk and family, also a very special friend and sister-in-law, Margaret Fortman, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. The Funeral Service will be held in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw on Thursday, December 7 at 1:30 p.m. Pastor Phil Canning will officiate. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held Wednesday evening 7-9 p.m. at the Funeral Home. Memorials for the Canadian Diabetes Association, 104, 2301 Ave. C. North, Saskatoon, S7L 5Z5 would be appreciated. In living memory of Alma, a tree has been planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

RUBY PORTZ

Ruby Portz of Moose Jaw, passed away in Union Hospital on June 8, 2005 at the age of 91 years. Born and raised in the Mossbank area and marrying “Burr” Portz on July 13, 1944. Always a team, Burr was a grain buyer, Ruby ran the local general store in Vantage. The family including son Ted moved to Chaplin in 1956 and led active roles in the community. Ruby and Burr moved to Moose Jaw in 1971. Golf (she loved the “Tiger”), curling, and bridge were Ruby’s passions and her friendships expanded at a rapid rate. Ruby’s interests and activities shifted to the Timothy Gardens Senior Centre where she played an active volunteer role plus participated in the many activities that the centre offered. Her final move into the Moose Jaw Housing apartments above the senior’s centre truly completed her life, it was not only her centre of close friends but it became home as well. Pre-deceased by two brothers and one sister, she is survived by son Ted and wife Judy and grandsons Stuart and Philip (the apples of her eye at her recent 90th birthday) of Burlington, ON, one sister Lorraine of Vernon, BC, plus niece Carol Halyk of Moose Jaw (her “anchor”, the daughter she never had). The Memorial Service will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Monday June 13th at 1:30 PM. Reverend Dr. Don Laing will officiate. Reception to follow at the Timothy Gardens Senior Centre at 2:30 PM. Memorials to the Canadian Cancer Society, 61B Ross St. W., Moose Jaw, S6H 2M2, would be appreciated. In living memory of Ruby, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

ADRIAN LEUSCHEN

Adrian Anthony Leuschen passed away suddenly while at work on May 30, 2003 at the age of 56 years. He will be sadly missed by his wife, Donna (Kalbfleisch) Leuschen; sons: Anthony of Regina, Martin (fiancé Sara Westcott) of Stillwater, Oklahoma; mother, Loretta Leuschen; eleven brothers and sisters: Linda of Calgary; Joann (Frank) Roettger of Humboldt, Dave (Liz) of Bruno, Ruth White of Saskatoon; Les (Cheryl) of Saskatoon; Joe (Julie) of Lethbridge, Perry (Janine) of Calgary, Anita (Richard) Renneberg, Norma (Frazer) Edmunds of Dundurn, Jeff of Saskatoon, and Gordie (Anita) of Bruno; as well as many nieces and nephews. Adrian’s attitude was do unto others, so his list of friends is extensive. He worked on many job sites after receiving his Masters in Geophysical Engineering at the U.of S. Some of the jobs included Diefenbaker Dam (Gardiner), Hinton Railway, Manalta Coal, Prairie Coal, Sask. Power, Central Canada Potash, Cominco Potash, Cudworth and Wakaw Airports. He also taught Robotics at S.I.A.S.T. in Moose Jaw, and worked a stint in Iraq. His most recent project was restoring mining equipment for the Estevan Mining Museum. Adrian wore many nicknames – Charlie Brown, Poc, or Winks. He will always be remembered for his warmth, razor sharp wit, his willingness to discuss anything at length (ending when the smokes were gone and the bottle was empty). Following cremation, a Memorial Service will be held at St. Bruno’s Catholic Church at Bruno, Sask. on Wednesday June 4, 2003 at 2:00 pm. Reverend Father Joe Ackerman will officiate. Interment of Cremated Remains will take place privately at a later date. Memorials to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, 150 Albert Street, Regina, S4R 2N2, would be appreciated. In living memory of Adrian, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

KEE KWAN

Kee Sheong Kwan passed away at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital on Monday January 14, 2008 at the age of 80 years. Kee was born in China on January 28, 1927, and came to Canada in 1973. He owned and operated Kwan’s Café on Manitoba Street until retiring in 1987. Kee was a very loving husband and father and was also a brilliant cook and a good business man, with much compassion and humour. He will be sadly missed by his wife, Mei Yung Kwan; son, Doug; five daughters: Mei, Alice, Gretti, Linda, and Sandy; sons-in-law Frank Lafond and Yun Lai; brother and sisters; seven grandchildren, one granddaughter-in-law and one grandson-in-law; many nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and nephews, sisters and brothers-in-law, and many cousins. The Funeral Service will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Saturday January 19, 2008 at 1:30 pm. Gale Chow will officiate. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. In living memory of Kee, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

PETER MACHMER

PETER JOHN MACHMER born April 13, 1919 in Bayard, Saskatchewan, passed away January 14, 2004. Peter served four years in WWII in Holland. He farmed thirty years in the Baildon area and was active with the Saskatchewan Wheat Pool, School Board and many years service at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Peter Enjoyed making sausage, playing pinochle and attending family reunions and many auction sales, baseball, curling and coffee row at the Co-op. Predeceased by his parents, Adam and Margret, infant son, Donald, a brother, Jacob; two sisters: Katie and Charolette and two infant sisters. Peter is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Helen; two sons: Harold (Jacquie) – Medicine Hat and Douglas (Melody) - Moose Jaw; two daughters: Connie (Leon) Jones – Moose Jaw and Laura (Dan) Miller – Courtenay, B.C.; grandchildren: Janice Miller, Stanley (Necole) Miller, Jeannette (Colin) Giesbrecht, Kimberley (Ian) Hennes, Skipp (Cherise) Machmer, Amie (Ian) Lewis, Christa Machmer and Levi Machmer, Dawn (Jason) Marshall, Dana (Billy) Yarbrough, Kevin (LaNelle) Jones; great-grandchildren: Abby, Elle, Madison and Stephen, brother, Henry (Thelma) – Regina; sisters: Louise (Frank) – Penticton, B.C., Isabel (Mickey) – Moose Jaw, Helen – Regina and his special canine friend, Taffy, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A Service to Celebrate the Life of Peter will bill held on Monday, January 19, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Reverend John Kreutzwieser will officiate. Interment will take place at Sunset Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held Sunday evening 7-9 p.m. at the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home. Memorials for the Moose Jaw Union Hospital (CT Scan) or to the Saskatchewan Heart & Stroke Foundation would be gratefully accepted. In living memory of Peter, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.
