MARGARET ALLEN

MARGARET (ISABEL) ALLEN, nee: Simmons, wife of Ernest R., passed away Monday, May 19, 2003. Isabel was born in Unity, Saskatchewan, May 24, 1920 and was raised by maternal grandparents until she was eight. Isabel completed her high school education in Meota then worked as a telephone operator in Tisdale where she met her husband, Ernest. The couple were married in North Battleford in 1945 and made their homes in Moose Jaw, Weyburn, Luseland, Biggar and Innisfail. Isabel was a Sunday School Teacher, served on the Altar Guild and was a choir member. She was active in Jobs Daughters, and was a member of St. Barnabas Couples Club. She loved to sing, read, play games and watch sports. Isabel liked the feeling of a close-knit family and encouraged regular family reunions which they celebrate to this day. She leaves to mourn her husband of 57 years, Ernest; two sons: Clinton (Diana) and Kent (Kathy) and daughter, Margaret Ann (Randy Udahl); her beloved grandchildren: Cynthia (Craig Berry), Carla (Todd Markus), Lauren and Dominic. Also surviving are her sisters: Verna, Shirley and Flora; brothers: Glenn, Jack and Neil, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Following cremation, A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2003 at 2:00 pm at St. Barnabas Anglican Church, Moose Jaw. Reverend Don Shepherd will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Arthritis Society, 110-2550-12th Ave., Regina, Sask., S6H 3X1 would be appreciated. In living memory of Isabel, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

GERTRUDE DAVIS

Our Mother passed away Wednesday June 25, 2003 at Royal University Hospital in Saskatoon, ten days after her 95 birthday. She was born at Low Farm, Manitoba, later moving to Chaplin, Saskatchewan. She was predeceased by her husband, Ted – October 29, 2002, her mother and father and sisters: Helen, Nettie, Sarah, Susan and Anne; brothers: Peter and Jake. Gertrude is survived by her daughters: Betty (Ed) and their family: Jim (Denise), Jeremy and Becky, Rick (Cheryl), Renee and Bradie; Dorothy (Harry) Henning, Randy, Brian (Karen), Teri, Kent, Mark (Jen); Linda (Doug) Welsh and their family: Jenny (Brad), Josie, Laura (Jaedon), Tanya (Hughie) Martens, Hannah. Gertie is survived by a brother, Cornie Banman, a half sister, Mary (Jake) Klassen, half brother, John (Fay) Banman. Mom worked for several families in the Tilney area. She met and married Dad October 15, 1930. They farmed in the Tilney areas for over forty years. Our Mom and our Dad made personal commitments to the Lord Jesus, we are all very blessed to have had a Christian home. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, June 30, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, Moose Jaw. Reverend Ed Armbruster and Reverend Sid Chalmers will officiate. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Gideons. In living memory of Gertrude, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

ROBERT ARMSTRONG

Robert Thomas Armstrong of Avonlea, formerly of Hearne, passed away at Pioneer’s Lodge, Moose Jaw on March 19, 2005 at the age of 80 years. Robert was born February 1, 1925 and farmed at Hearne, SK for over 70 years. He was active in most organizations of the community. Robert was a student of Amherst Rural School from grade 1 to 10, taking his grade 11 and 12 at Briercrest High School. He also took a short course in agriculture at the U.of S. in Saskatoon. Robert is predeceased by his father, Robert Morton and mother, Julia. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Verna, who had taken up residence at the Avonlea Coteau Range Manor. He also leaves to mourn numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. A Celebration of Robert's life will be held at the Avonlea United Church, on Monday March 28, 2005 at 2:00. Reverend Marilyn Keerak will officiate. Cremation will take place, with memorialization to follow at Hillcrest Cemetery, Avonlea. Memorials to the Avonlea Lions Club, would be appreciated. In living memory of Robert, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

ETHEL FLINT

Ethel Flint of Moose Jaw, passed away at age 99 years 9 months October 14, 2007. Born in Bradford, Yorkshire, England January 18, 1908 she was brought to Canada by her father William Hutton with her late sister, Emily Ferguson. Ethel was a caring, devoted mother and a loving wife to her husband, Wilfred Flint (deceased 1979). She gave joy to her friends and family; taking an active interest in her grandsons and granddaughter, her great-grandson, Shane Gallinger and great-granddaughter Sylviane Allard as well as the children of her friends. Ethel was a generous woman, using her talents to make doll clothes, and knitting clothes which she gave to charitable organizations. She received a letter of appreciation from Tele-Miracle for the many donations she had given over the years. She will be lovingly and happily remembered by her sons George and Robert (Karen), her granddaughter Joanna Allard (Dany) and great-granddaughter Sylviane Allard; her daughter Margery Gallinger, grandsons Jim (Barbara), great-grandson Shane Gallinger, and grandsons William and Scott Gallinger. In keeping with Ethel’s wishes, there will be no funeral service.

MAY THOMPSON

MAY FLORENCE THOMPSON, a long time resident of Ormiston, Saskatchewan passed away peacefully October 1, 2008 in Saskatoon, at the age of 95. Born the sixth of nine children on June 12, 1913, May grew up and attended school in Brandon, Manitoba. She was active as a young woman enjoying down hill skiing and motor cycle rides with her brothers. May worked in Brandon at Rumford Laundry as a book keeper and late in the war, she met and on September 30, 1944 married Flight Sergeant Jack Thompson of Winnipeg. They were stationed at Vulcan, Alberta and after his discharge from the RCAF, Jack and May moved to Winnipeg while he completed his engineering degree. In 1947 they moved to Ormiston, Saskatchewan where Jack managed the sodium sulphate mine. May assisted in the mine office as needed, and acted as hostess for traveling mine officials. She enjoyed curling, cards, crocheting, knitting, baking, canning, and learning to play the piano. Later, May was involved with Ladies Aid, church activities and teaching knitting at 4-H. May also enjoyed working with youth and taught piano lessons at her home and directed community plays. May and Jack raised two daughters, Janice and Carla, teaching them the importance of family and faith, and the value of education. After 49 years at Ormiston, May and Jack moved to Moose Jaw where they resided until 2002 when Jack passed away. May moved to Saskatoon where she spent her final years sustained by her family and faith. May was predeceased by her parents Thomas and Mary Jane Lingard, her daughter, Carla, her husband, Jack, and her brothers: and sisters: Jack, Bill, Violet (Hodgson), Dick, Carlton, Tom, Bob and Phyllis (Douglas). She is survived by her daughter, Janice (Kim) Anderson and granddaughters: Gillian and Keira Anderson. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, October 6, 2008 at 11 a.m. at Church of Our Lady, 566 Vaughan Street, Moose Jaw. Father Tony Sevali C.S.Sp. will preside. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army Waterston House, 1845 Osler Street, Regina, S4P 1W1. In living memory of May, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

DOROTHY WELLS

It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of our mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Dorothy Wells, age 86, on Thursday January 8, 2009. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Eric, brother Fred Fairman, son-in-law Don Palmer, sister and brother-in-law Alice and Rob Grindley, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Al and Olive Hayes, and brother-in-law Hector Barber. She leaves to mourn daughters, Margaret (Fred) Collins, and Daphne Palmer, son Robert (Kathy) Wells; grandchildren: Jamie (Tammy) and Jason (Sherri) Collins, Shea and Cody Wells, and Joseph and Erica Palmer; great-grandchildren Keira and Tegan Collins, and Jaden and Abigail Collins; good friends and family David and Carol Marshall; and sister-in-law Ruby Barber; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Mom served in WWII and she said she was everybody’s friend because she was the “payroll clerk”. She was a life long member of the Rebekah Lodge No.4. At Dorothy’s request, there will be no funeral service. Cremation will take place with memorialization to follow at Rosedale Cemetery in the spring. Memorials to the Sask. Lung Association 1231 8th St. E., Saskatoon, S7H 0S5, would be appreciated. In living memory of Dorothy, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

LAWRENCE (BUNN) KITTS

LAWRENCE (BUNN) KITTS, longtime resident of Moose Jaw, passed away June 29, 2007 at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital after a brief battle with cancer, at the age of 94 years. Born March 3, 1913 to William and Amy Kitts at Indian Head, he was raised on the family farm in the Dunkirk District south of Moose Jaw, receiving his education at Fertile Field School. He worked the family farm and at the Sodium Sulfate plant at Bishopric until his brother Bert returned from serving in the war when they both purchased land in the Drinkwater District east of Moose Jaw, putting in their first crop in 1947, and is still lived on and farmed by his son, Grant and his family. Bunn remained active with the farm and his favourite pastime of curling until he was 89 when he had heart surgery but continued to Lawn Bowl. Predeceased by his brother, Bill (Ella) and Bert (Louetta), sister, Flo (Frank) Farmer; brothers-in-law, Jim (Joyce) Grant, Bill Grant, and Lawrence England, Bunn is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Alice, son, Grant (Cheryl) beloved grandchildren: Caitlyn and Devyn, sister Vi England, sisters-in-law, Ester Grant and Vi Kitts and many nieces, nephews and cousins. In keeping with Bunn’s request, there will be no funeral service. Family invite friends for a Time of Remembrance on Saturday, July 7, 2007; 2-4p.m. at the W. J. Jones & Son Family Centre, 262 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw. Memorialization of cremated remains will take place privately at Sunset Cemetery. For those so wishing, memorials to the Moose Jaw Union Hospital Foundation, 455 Fairford St. E., S6H 1H3 would be appreciated. The family would like to thank the nursing staff on First Floor Moose Jaw Union Hospital for their care and compassion to Bunn. In living memory of Bunn, a tree will be planted by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.
