Peter J. Knelsen passed away in Moose Jaw on January 12, 2003 . Peter was born May 9, 1914 in Russia to Jacob and Maria Knelsen. He immigrated to Canada with his parents and siblings in 1925. Peter attended local schools in the Kelstern area. He married Mabel Rud on January 13, 1940 and they farmed in the Shamrock district until 1949 when they moved to Moose Jaw, operating Caribou Grocery with his sister and brother-in-law until 1951. He then began working at Cushing Millwork as a finishing carpenter until his retirement in 1979. As a young man, Peter loved playing baseball, especially pitching. In his later years he took pleasure in golfing and watching baseball games. He is predeceased by his wife, Mabel; brothers, Jake and Dick; and sister, Tina. Peter is survived by his son, Mervin (Marie); daughter, Gina (Rudie); grandchildren: Jocelyn, Tanis, Tina (Hadi), Kurt and Karlleen; great-grandchildren: Kayleen, Kurtis and Jordan; brother, Henry; sister, Helen; brother-in-law, O’Neil; sister-in-law, Cora; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held at Minto United Church, 1036 Seventh Ave. N.W., on Friday, January 17, 2003 at 1:30 pm . Gary Johnson will officiate. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery . Visitation Thursday evening 7 – 9 pm at W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home. Memorials to the Sask. Heart and Stroke Foundation, Box 521, Moose Jaw, S6H 4P2, would be appreciated. GEORGE KELL
It is with deep sadness we announce the death of our Dad, George Kell, who passed away in Moose Jaw on July 21, 2004 at the age of 92 years. George was born in Leasingthorn, England in 1911 and came to Canada in 1922, settling in Moose Jaw. George married Jessie Ann Besley July 14, 1938. He was manager of Moose Jaw Aqua Soft Services, retiring in 1976 and will be remembered as a salesman all his life. Besides his parents, George is predeceased by his wife Jessie and sister, Hilda Clark. He is survived by two sons: Ron (Vivian) – Assiniboia; Art (Gayle) – Moose Jaw; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The Funeral Service will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Monday July 26, 2004 at 2:00 pm. Pastor Dwight Baron will officiate. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Canadian Cancer Society, 61 B Ross St. W., Moose Jaw, S6H 2M2, would be appreciated. Paul Beach, age 81, of Ernfold, SK, passed away at home on Monday January 24, 2005. A Memorial Service will be held at the Ernfold Community Hall on Friday January 28, 2005 at 2:00 pm. Sandra Sellars will officiate. Memorials to a charity of choice would be appreciated. MARGARET JOAN GEMMELL, age 65, of Moose Jaw passed away in Regina on January 31, 2005. In keeping with Joan’s wishes, a private graveside service will be held at a later time. FRED DURFEY
Fred Durfey of Holdfast, SK and formerly of Tugaske, Darmody, and Mortlach passed away peacefully on Friday, April 14, 2006 at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital after a short battle with cancer. Fred was born on April 26, 1930 in Mortlach. He married Hilda Wolf on December 6, 1957 and they lived in Mortlach, Darmody, and Tugaske. After Hilda’s passing, Fred moved to Holdfast. Fred was an excellent athlete, competing in hockey, baseball, and curling. He took great pride in his 35 year career with the RM of Eyebrow, but his greatest joy was his wife and family. Fred and Hilda enjoyed many years of camping and fishing with friends on Diefenbaker Lake. Fred was predeceased by his wife, Hilda (1996); his parents, Ernest and Josephine Durfey; his mother and father-in-law, Daniel and Emilie Wolf; brothers-in-law, Albert Wolf, Oscar Wolf, Walter Wolf, Bill McHolm; a sister-in-law, Edna McHolm; a niece, Linda Wolf, and two nephews, David Walker and Corey Coghlan. He is lovingly remembered by his children, Shelley (Ron) Harms - Holdfast; Sherry (Bill) Hook - Moose Jaw; Cameron (Tammy) Durfey - Moose Jaw and his grandchildren, Jeff, Tyler and Jana Harms, Jennisa and Kimberley Hook, and Brendon and Travis Durfey. He is also survived by his only sister, Marg (Ted) Ward, brothers-in-law Eddie (Sim) Wolf, Alvin (Phyllis) Wolf and sister-in-law Elsie Ferguson as well as many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. We, Fred’s children, would like to thank all of you for the many visits, calls and good wishes over the last few months. Dad appreciated them more than you can know. The Funeral Service will be held at Minto United Church, 1036 Seventh Ave.NW., on Wednesday April 19, 2006 at 1:30 pm. Della Ferguson will officiate. VERN WILLIAMSON
Vern Williamson of Cardross passed away peacefully on Sunday, January 11, 2009 with his family by his side. Vern was born April 22, 1926 and was raised on the family farm. He attended the Bliss Lake School then worked the family farm until well into his 70’s, remaining there until his passing. Vern was a humble, gentle and caring man who loved life on the farm; enjoying the solitude and peace it offered. He lived a hard-working, uncomplicated life and appreciated all the things the farm provided. He was a good friend to many and in his younger years, kept involved in community life, participating in baseball and curling. He enjoyed his neighbours and was always willing to lend a helping hand to others. He looked forward to his family visits in Moose Jaw, particularly enjoying his nieces as much as they enjoyed visiting the farm. Vern is predeceased by his parents David and Emily Williamson, brothers Lyle and Keith (Eileen) Williamson and is survived by his nephews Ross (Debbie) of Calgary, AB, Scott (Karen) and children, Morganne, Madison, Cody and Caitlyn; and sister-in-law, Marj Williamson of Moose Jaw and special friend Bertha Seevers of Cardross. The Service of Remembrance will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Thursday January 15, 2009 at 1:30 pm. Reverend John Carley will officiate. Memorialization will take place at Prairie Memorial Columbarium. Memorials to the Canadian Cancer Society, 61B Ross St. W., Moose Jaw, S6H 2M2, would be appreciated. INGA CHASE
MRS. INGA CHASE, age 97 years of Moose Jaw passed away peacefully March 13, 2008 at Regina Pasqua Hospital. She was born in 1910 in Norway and came to Canada at an early age. Inga married Harland Chase in 1932 and the couple lived in Ormiston for a number of years. In 1976 Harland passed away. Inga remained in Ormiston until 1978 when she moved to Moose Jaw. She is survived by three children: Joan Kivol of Moose Jaw, Allan (Kristina) Chase of Anglemont, BC and Ruth Andrei of Moose Jaw; eleven grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, eleven great-great-grandchildren, and a sister-in-law, Eunice Moen. A Memorial Service will be held at Emmanuel Lutheran Church, (15 Paul Drive on 9th Avenue N.W.) on Monday, March 17, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. Reverend John Kreutzwieser will officiate. Private family interment will take place in Rosedale Cemetery prior to the service. Visitation for family and friends will be held Sunday evening 7-9 p.m. at the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home, 106 Athabasca St. E. For those so wishing, memorial donations may be directed to the Emmanuel Lutheran Church Sunday School Program.
