CLAYTON BROOKS passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 3, 2004 at Providence Place, at the age of 91 years. He was born February 23, 1913 and attended Alexandra School . He began working at Ward’s Transfer in 1936 until his retirement in 1991 at the age of 78 years. He enjoyed speed skating, bike riding and people watching. A Celebration of Clayton’s Life will be held Wednesday, April 7, 2004 at 1:00 p.m. in the Providence Place Chapel, 100-2nd Ave. N.E., Moose Jaw . Della Ferguson will officiate. Memorialization will take place at Rosedale Cemetery . In living memory of Clayton, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home
LAURA JERRED
It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of their mother and grandmother, Laura (Beattie) Jerred of Moose Jaw, who passed away on Friday, December 3, 2004 at the age of 87 years. Laura was born in Moose Jaw to George and Mary Beattie. Her early years were spent on the farm in the Clinton district with a move to the city in 1929. In 1945, she married Ival (Ike) and began a lifelong devotion to her family. Laura spent many hours knitting and sewing. Her outside interests were bowling and her "Club" friends. She and Ike spent many enjoyable summers at their cabin at Buffalo Pound. It was heartbreaking when she had to leave her home after fifty-two years. Predeceased by her husband Ival (1992) and son Donald (1953), Laura will be lovingly remembered by her son David (Doreen), daughter Marsha (Malcolm) of Langley, BC, son Jeffrey (Linda); grandchildren Brett (Calgary), Krista Seip (Mike), Adam, Heather of Calgary, Aaron Johnson of BC, and great-grandchildren Deschien and Rayne Seip. Also left to mourn is her brother Gordon Beattie of Yahk, BC. A Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, December 8, at 3:30 pm in the W. J. Jones and Son Funeral Chapel. Flowers are respectfully declined. Contributions may be made to the Humane Society, 1755 Stadacona St. W., Moose Jaw. The family wishes to thank the staff of Extendicare and Pioneer Lodge for the wonderful care of their mother. In living memory of Laura, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. PRESTON RUSHKA
Preston Rushka passed away December 10, 2004. Preston was born on September 21, 1985 at Yorkton. He came to live with the Nernberg’s in Spy Hill, SK on July 22, 1996. Preston was a very brilliant and studious student and he excelled in everything he did. He took his schooling at Spy Hill and Langenberg and his high school at Peacock in Moose Jaw. Preston also excelled at hockey and cherished every moment of his hockey career. He was an avid Toronto Maple Leafs fan. Preston will be lovingly remembered by his foster family and the mom and dad he knew for seven years: Kelvin and Rose Nernberg, Jeffrey, Tara, and Brooke, Leanne (friend Stan), Melanie (friend Chris) and Avery, Jason, Jennifer and Bryanna; and foster sister, Kat Stradeski. Preston will also be remembered by his chosen Godparents, Daryl and Gloria Nernberg; and also many aunts, uncles, cousins, and grandparents. He will also be cherished by his natural parents, Linda and Ed; his loving sister and best friend Stephanie Rushka; his baby sister Amanda Hall, who cherished Preston’s every moment and always wanted the best for him; his three younger brothers, Jonathan Rushka, Dennis Rushka and Tyrone Reid; some very special friends, Jeff, Toby, Megan, and numerous other friends from his earlier years. Preston will be greatly missed and forever remembered by his loving family and friends. The Funeral Service will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Thursday December 16, 2004 at 3:30 pm. Reverend John Carley will officiate. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Joe’s Place, 402 Main St. N., Moose Jaw, S6H 3K2, would be appreciated. ROBERT DAWSON
Robert Gordon Dawson, passed away peacefully on Wednesday March 22, 2006, with his family at his side. Robert was born (May 6, 1926), raised and died in the house his father built in 1926 in the Mayberry district. Dad left the farm for a few short years to work at Swift’s and Robin Hood Mills, returning to the family farm for good in 1948. He enjoyed the land, his black angus cattle and square dancing, but most of all, his life centred around his children and grandchildren. Bob will be sadly missed by his wife of 61 years, Madeleine; his daughters: Vivian (Al) Greenwood – Moose Jaw, Gail Dawson, son-in-law Clarence Hack – Victoria; grandchildren: Ryan, Cody (Amy), Tyler, Drew (Michele), Holly, Haley, Lane Greenwood – all of Moose Jaw, and Kristian Hack – Victoria; great-grandchildren: Hailey and Riley; sister Joyce Larrivee – Gabriola Island, BC; brothers-in-law, Edward Lowe – Lucky Lake, Dave (Melody) Lowe – Drinkwater, Phin Landgraff – Vancouver; sisters-in-law, Justine Lowe – Lucky Lake, Lillian Dagel, Marian (Don) Brown – Moose Jaw, Elsie Lowe – Regina, Ruby Dawson – Vancouver; numerous nieces, nephews, and special family friends. He is predeceased by sisters, Viola (Pat), and Gloria; and brothers, Stan and Thomas (Tink). A Tribute to Dad’s life will be held at the Eagle’s Club on Saturday April 1, 2006 from 2 – 4 pm. ETHEL HANSON
Ethel Hanson (Webster), of Moose Jaw, passed away January 23, 2007. Ethel was born in Sheho, SK on May 6, 1908. She married Harold Hanson in 1931. In 1936 they moved to Moose Jaw where she has since resided. Ethel was predeceased by her husband in 1984, an infant son in 1935, her parents, Anne and Eugene Webster, and two brothers and two sisters. She is survived by two sisters and many wonderful nieces and nephews, especially Art, who has helped in so many ways. At Ethel’s request, there will be no funeral service. Following Cremation, memorialization will take place at Prairie Memorial Columbarium. In living memory of Ethel, a tree has been planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.
HOLLY BROOKS
Holly Mae (Douglas) Brooks slipped away to join her Lord and Savior January 26, 2008 after a lengthy illness. She was born May 8, 1952 in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Holly is predeceased by her father Hugh Douglas (1965), brothers: Kenneth Douglas (1967) and David Douglas (1989). She leaves to mourn her loss her children: Scottie – Fernie, BC; Linda – Vancouver, BC; William (Kelly) – Regina and Kenneth – Hinton, AB; her mother, Verna Douglas – Moose Jaw and brothers and sisters: Louise (Peter) Guenther – Edmonton; Ralph (Carol) Douglas – Hinton; Kevin Douglas – Moose Jaw and lifetime friend and sister: Jackie Wells – Moose Jaw and numerous nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Holly’s life will be held at the W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Wednesday January 30, 2008 at 1:30 pm. Cremation will follow and memorialization will take place at Rosedale Cemetery at a later date. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Tuesday evening from 7-8 p.m. at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Saskatchewan Heart and Stroke Foundation, 2360 2nd Ave, Regina, SK, S4R1A6 or the charity of one's choice. PERCY MILLER
MR. PERCY MILLER, age 84, of Avonlea passed away on June 22, 2004. Percy was born and raised at Avonlea. He was serving in the Dental Corp of the Army when he married his school mate, Pearl Daniel in 1943. After the war Percy returned to Avonlea where farming became their life. Percy loved his white-faced Herefords and he knew each one individually. Over the years, Percy and Pearl spent many treasured times with friends - curling, square dancing and playing cards. He was a member of the Avonlea Masonic Lodge. He was well known for his sense of humor and enjoyed visiting and joking with friends at Nelson Motors, the Avonlea Co-op and the Drop-In Centre. Predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Raymond and Russel and a sister, Mildred, Percy is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Pearl of Avonlea, son, Terry Miller (Angie) of Saskatoon, daughter, Sandra (Wayne) Hutchinson of Avonlea, daughter, Carole (Frank) Schnitzler of Assiniboia; grandchildren: Aron (Kate) DePasquale of Burlington, Ontario, Terry DePasquale of Toronto, Ontario, Delee (Dean) Segberg of Edmonton, Corinne Hutchinson of Meadow Lake, Sheila Miller of Saskatoon; two great-granddaughters: Amelia and Miranda of Burlington, his sister, Grace (Gil) Hay; brothers and sisters-in-law: Pauline Miller, Henry Daniel, Raymond (Florence) Daniel, Carl (Yolanda) Daniel as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Percy was proud of each of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Each of them always expected to be teased in some way when they came to see “Grandpa Percy”. The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, June 25, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. from the Avonlea United Church. Sally Gladstone will officiate. Interment will take place at Hillcrest Cemetery, Avonlea.
