Donald Meyers
Donald Meyers passed away peacefully on Saturday February 7, 2009 at Tatagwa View with family at his side, at the age of 84 years. Don (dad) will be sadly missed by his family. Don was born at Midale on August 23, 1924 to Edwin and Elizabeth Meyers. Don attended school at Midale. He married Myrtle Lamb of Huntoon on December 10, 1943. They moved to the John Carlson farm in 1943, which was two and a half miles north of Midale. Don Farmed, raised cattle, drove oil truck and worked at John Fieldberg's machine shop. Then he purchased a caterpillar and went to work in the oil field. Our dad was a very hard worker, dad loved to curl, go to Cody's hockey games and other hockey games. He liked to hunt and go flying with Jim Arts, Bert Newton, Duane Ryan and his cousin Williard Meyers. Dad and mom enjoyed traveling to horse races where their son-in-law Pat Tracey would be racing, Dad would play his guitar and yodel and us kids would enjoy every minute of it. Dad always liked when his girls and mom would be baking, then he could sample everything. He also enjoyed the large gardens. Don was predeceased by his parents Edwin and Elizabeth Meyers, his daughter Betty-Jean, great grandson and wife Myrtle. Don is survived by his children, Donna (Pat) Tracey, Calgary AB, Norm (Elaine) Meyers, Estevan, Linda (Robert) Winter, Weyburn, Robert (Marion) Meyers, Estevan, Pat Ereth, Weyburn, special friend (Ken) Whitelaw Melfort, Bernard Meyers High Level, AB, Ken (Jackie) Meyers, Midale and Cora (Darrel) Gosselin, Midale. 19 Grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren. Peter Katona
On Monday, February 2nd, 2009, Peter Katona of Creelman passed away at the age of 88 years. Peter was predeceased by his parents, John and Mary Katona; son-in-law, Kenneth Stocker; five brothers: Joseph, John, Jim, Leslie, and Alex Katona. Peter is survived by his wife, Frances Katona of Weyburn, five children: Lorraine Stocker of Stoughton; Loretta (Allan) Bates of Esterhazy; Leonard (Anna Lipowiecki) Katona of Weyburn; Donald (June) Katona of Regina; and Les (Louise Ortman) Katona of Creelman; 13 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 2 sisters: Mary Milligan and Lizzie Ursu; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Peter Katona was born December 15, 1920 at Hungary (Tizaldk). He moved to Canada at the age of six with his parents and four brothers to Masefield. From there they moved to Warmly in the 1940's where he met his future wife. They were wed on June 8, 1945 in Weyburn, the best man was Peter Walbaum and maid of honor was Vina Woods, nee: Walbaum. Peter and Frances lived at various places until they found their own homestead in the R.M. of Golden West, raising their five children in the Creelman area. Peter left school with a grade five education to work on the family farm. Peter was a farmer his whole life, and in the early 1960's he also worked on the CPR as a laborer, helping to subsidize the farming. He received a pocket watch for ten plus years working for the CPR. Peter dedicated his time to raising funds for Creelman High School. He used his two teams of horses to haul grain and made the same trip hauling firewood to Creelman. He had his own way to worship, and always put his family , farm and friends first. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, his horses named Sam and Punch, Nellie and Molly and old time dancing along with farming. Peter shone in social events, taking his wife and children dancing which they still love to do. Pete always had a good joke or story between dances. Peter left his mark with people who knew him and will be sadly missed by his special family. Thanks to the Radville Marian Health Centre and the Fillmore Health Centre for their care. A memorial service was held Saturday, February 7th at 2:00 p.m. from Fletcher Funeral Chapel, Weyburn with Rev. John Ferrier officiating. Interment followed in Hillcrest Cemetery, Weyburn. Dr. Oscar Decter
April 20, 1922-January 26, 2009
Dr. Oscar Decter lived life to the fullest, often saying that he would rest when he was dead. Born to Harry and Edith Decter in Winnipeg, Manitoba the third of four children: Percy (Una), Midge (Abe) and Alan (Dena), Oscar graduated from University of Manitoba with a BSc and MD in 1946. He married Joan Triller, the love of his life for 58 years, and they moved to London, England to further his studies. They returned to Canada and ultimately settled in Weyburn in 1958. Oscar was a wonderful doctor who brought many people into the world, saved many lives and was ahead of his time, using hypnosis and acupuncture for therapeutic purposes in the 1970's. He loved his career and when he was not working or spending time with his family, he was fishing, hunting, playing duplicate bridge or telling jokes or stories. An independent, determined, spontaneous and generous person right to the end, Oscar will always be loved and remembered by his five children: Ross (Karen) of Hershey, Pennsylvania, Ellen (Richard) of Freeport, Bahamas, Hal (Donna) of Victoria, BC, Marcia (Malcolm) and Jeff (Dali) of Calgary, AB. Oscar is survived by his seven grandchildren: Alex (Erin), Tanner, Taylor, Rachel, Greer, Ilaina and Sean; and great grandchildren: Alexa, Peyton and Ava. Oscar also leaves behind many loving relatives and wonderful friends. Many thanks to the Department of Veterans' Affairs and to the wonderful community dialysis staff at the Sheldon Chumir Centre who provided a great deal of support to Oscar during his last years. We are most grateful to the doctors, nurses, aides and staff at the Sarcee Carewest Hospice who made Oscar's last days comfortable. Joan, Oscar's children, his grandchildren and great grandchildren were fortunate to have celebrated his life with him in late October, 2008. At Oscar's request, there will be no funeral service.
Don Leguee
Don Leguee passed away suddenly on February 5, 2009, at the age of 87. Don was predeceased by his parents, Russell and Winnifred Leguee, one sister, Grace MacPhail, two brothers-in-law, Lloyd MacPhail and Gordon Clay. Don is survived by his loving wife, Elsie Leguee, Weyburn, his children: Elaine (Herb) Willberg, Aldergrove, BC and their children: Christa and David; Norma (Ross) Banga, Regina and their children: Kelly (Doug), Wendy (Jarrett), Robin (Addie); Barb (Rick) Smart, Weyburn and their children: Melissa, Samantha and Kristin; Russ (Sharon) Leguee, Fillmore and their children: Sarah, Jake and Amber; one great grandson, Hunter. He also leaves two sisters, Eleanor Clay and Ruth (Wayne) Hannan along with numerous nieces and nephews. Don was born of February 5, 1922 in Melita, MB. He was the second child of four and the only boy. They grew up on a farm North of Ogema. The 1930's hit them hard with drought and grasshoppers. He finished Grade 10 and started farming with this parents, but along came WWII and he felt the need to go. Returning home after the war, he settled into his farming life, then along came a pretty young teacher named Elsie Johnston and in 1952 they were married. Elaine and Norma were born in Bengough and in 1956 they moved to the farm 12 miles west of Fillmore. Barb and Russ were born in Weyburn. Dad and mom continued farming there and in 1983 they built a new home near the farm and lived there until November 2008. They then moved to Weyburn to a new condominium. As Don became older, he took up and loved fishing, so in 1986 they bought a lot at Diefenbaker Lake and built a cabin where he spent many hours of fun with family and friends. Later dad took great pleasure in driving around checking in fields and making sure we were doing things right. Everyone knew his little red truck and could always count on dad for a ride to pick up equipment from another field, or whatever needed to be done. Dad had a great fun loving side, it didn't matter where we went he was surrounded by kids. There was always a twinkle in his eye that never faded. There is a saying "All gave some" "Some gave all". Our dad gave all he had. All people die, but some never live. Our dad truly "Lived". For friends so wishing, donations may be made in memory of Don to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan. Fred Dolinski
On Monday February 16, 2009 Fred Dolinski age 78 years, passed away peacefully at the Regina General Hospital with god-daughters Teresa and Nicole; the Szwetz family and nephew Allan by his side. He was predeceased by his parents, Frederick and Lean Dolinski; brothers: Joseph, Alex, Tony and Stanley Dolinski and sister-in-law Nettie Dolinski. Fred is survived by his nephews: Allan (Diane) Dolinski and their sons, David and Ian, Martin (Michele) Dolinski and Marvin Dolinski, all of Vancouver, BC; the Szwetz family, as well as numerous cousins and friends. Fred was born on September 13, 1930. They lived in Montmartre and attended school in Wolseley. In 1942, he moved with his father, mother and brothers to Cedoux. He worked for the Department of Highways for 28 years until 1987. Fred also farmed with his brother Tony, up till the time of Tony's passing 2007. He was a member of the third degree Knights of Columbus and was a long time member of Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church in Weyburn. Fred enjoyed the Weyburn Red Wing hockey games and helping his friends with any type of work. Fred is known for his sense of humor that would bring many laughs with his friends throughout the community. Prayers were held at RD Family Funeral Chapel, Weyburn, on Sunday February 22, 2009 at 6:00 p.m. The funeral service for Fred Dolinski was held Monday, February 23 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church at 11:00 a.m. with Father Ivan Derkach and Father Gerry Bauche celebrants. Cindy Mae Ror
Cindy Mae Ror was born in Weyburn on June 20, 1975. She passed away on February 12, 2009 at the age of 33 years, in Regina. Cindy is survived by her two daughters Shelinda and Kylee; her two sons Johnathon and Cameron; friend and father of her children, Brent Dodman; her parents Earl and Ruby Ror, Weyburn; her partner Mike Gherasim, Regina; her sisters and brother: Brenda Ror, Saskatoon, Debbie (Melvin) Herberholz, Weyburn, Donna (Rodney) Kuciuk, Regina, Louise Lowes (partner, Brian), Calgary, AB and Marlin Ror (Partner, Trent) of Regina as well as several nieces and nephews. Clara Genevieve McLeod
On Wednesday, February 25th, 2009, Clara Genevieve McLeod passed away at the Radville Marian Health Centre at the age of 103 years. Clara was predeceased by her husband, Philip Chandler "P.C." McLeod (1974); daughter, Valorie Ann Robertson (1997) and grandson, Warren McLeod (2004); parents, Martha and Marius Slotsve; three brothers, Marvel, Herman and Stanley; three sisters, Helen, Marie and Ruth. Clara leaves to mourn her son, Cecil (Norma) of Radville, children, Scott (Geeta), Laird (Elaine), Warren's wife (Brenda) and their children, Connor, Caitlin, and Connie McLeod, Vonne (Alen) Weddis, their sons, Creighton, Brennon, Sandra (Michael) Wankel and daughters, Meghan and Mallory; daughter, Berva Farr of Victoria, BC and her children, Lorri (Dave) Bennie her children, Michael (Jody) Hovland and their son, Reese, Melonie (Jon) Velk and children, Peterson and Amelia, Jim (Bonnie) Hume and daughter, Bekki (Kamil) Khan and son, Kai, Tana (Randy) Plewes and their children, Kaisha and Damon; the sons of Val Robertson, Brad (Doris) Robertson their children, Melissa, Jordan (Leanne) Robertson, Blake Robertson; daughter, Myrna (Laco) Benavidez of Radville, her son, Gerry (Lesley) Girard and their children, Derrick, Mason, Justin, Blair and grandson Joey; Kim (Cyndi) Girard, his son Brandon, Dustin and Emily; LaVonne (Bob) Bottieri and their son, Carmilo, Cheri (Ken) McKellar and their children, Jeff, Travis, Devin, Kendra, Torey, Tammi (Louis) Giasson and their children, Nicole (Bill) Chandler and Daniel; one brother, Louis (Gabe) Slotsve and one sister-in-law, Jean Slotsve as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Clara Genevieve McLeod was born July 20th, 1905 at Flaxton, North Dakota, USA. She moved to Canada at the age of three years old. They lived on a farm north of Torquay. The family held services in their home until Lac Que Parle church was built, and she took her Norwegian schooling there. Clara took her grades one to eight at Gilbertson School north of Torquary and took her High School in Estevan where she worked for her board and room. Then she went to Normal School in Regina. The first school she taught was Daleford which is up north by Lake Lenore, at age 18 years. She then taught at Temple School and Pepper School, both south of Maxim. On March13th, 1926, Clara married Philip Chandler McLeod in the manse of Knox Metropolitan United Church, Regina. They lived on the farm until 1928 when they bought the store in Maxim and had a garage with oil and gas and an Implement Dealership. They worked together to raise a family and also had a busy business. They moved the John Deere Dealership to Radville in 1967. During the years they lived in Maxim, she attended the Pentecostal Church, then the United Church when they moved to Radville. Clara loved to read and garden, she had good luck growing things. Clara was involved with Political work and took the Censes. She loved her home and wanted to stay there but in June of 2004 she had to move into the Radville Marian Health Centre as she could not walk anymore. Her family will lovingly remember their Mom, grandma, great grandma and great great grandma. Funeral services were held Friday, March 6th, 2009 at 2:00 P.M. from Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Radville with Rev. Kelly Henning officiating. Interment followed in Laurier Cemetery, Radville. The Active Pallbearers were: Scott McLeod, Laird McLeod, Jim Hume, Gerry Girard, Kim Girard and Ken McKellar. Nellie Levina Liddle
Nellie Levina LIddle was born on January 5, 1918. On March 2, 2009 at the age of 91 years, Nellie passed away at Victoria General Hospital, Winnipeg, MB. Nellie was predeceased by her husband Jack (1995), daughter Beth (1957), brothers Albert Henwood (1991), Edward Henwood (2000) and sister Alice Duncan (1994). She leaves to cherish her memory her sons Howard (Margaret), Abbotsford, BC and Keith (Barbara), Winnipeg; grandchildren Tabitha Gibson, Melanie Gibson (Andrew), Trevor Liddle and Lynelle (Kevin) Klassen, and her great grandchildren. Also survived by her sister-in-law Margaret Miller, Avonlea; brothers-in-law Gordon Liddle, Melfort, and Arthur (Sheila) Liddle, Marysville, WA; her cousins and numerous nieces and nephews. Nellie was born in Grandview, MB and married Jack on August 3, 1944 at which time she moved to the Colgate area, where they raised their family on the family farm. They left the farm in 1973 to move to Weyburn. There they operated the Weyburn Pfaff Sewing Centre which they started in 1970 and operated until 1977. She relocated to Winnipeg in 2005 to Meadowood Manor to be closer to family. She loved to cook and entertain family and friends in her home. Many people have felt the warmth of one of her afghans as she crocheted for baby showers and friends. She will be greatly missed by both her family and many friends. Funeral service was held on Saturday, March 7 at 2:00 pm in the Weyburn Free Methodist Church in Weyburn with Rev. Dennis Camplin and Pastor Jay Mowchenko officiating. A Tribute to Nellie was given by Alfred Robinson, Family Reflections by her grandson, Trevor Liddle, the Eulogy was read by C.K. Lai and the Free Methodist Church Male Quartet, Gerald Alexander and Kevin and Lynelle Klassen sang. Interment followed in Green Acres Memorial Gardens, Weyburn. Honorary Pallbearers were: Herb Evans, Gordon Liddle, Arthur Liddle, Vern Robinson, Bob Joice, Frank Blatz and Ed Stevenson. The Active Pallbearers were: Norm Alexander, Ron Alexander, Jim Joice, Randy Miller, Doug Beach and Jerry Hefferman. Olivia Sweeney
Olivia "Toots" Sweeney (nee Venne) passed away peacefully on February 17, 2009 in Kelowna, B.C. at the age of 94. She was predeceased by her dear husband Joe and her two daughters Doreen and Colleen, but she will always be lovingly remembered by her grandchildren Kevin (Karin) Paul, Gordon (Nicole) Paul, Shannon Edwards, Lori Erb (Aengus MacIntosh), Danny (Wanda) Erb, Bill Erb and Bob Erb. She also leaves behind her sisters Mae and Verniece, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews as well as many many dear friends in Kelowna and throughout the prairies. Toots was born on March 21, 1914 in Weyburn to Marie (Normand) and James Venne. She enjoyed the freedom of her prairie childhood with her five brothers and sisters and then entered the Saskatchewan Training School to graduate in 1938 as a psychiatric nurse. In that same graduating class was the man she would later marry in 1946, Joe Sweeney. During her career in Saskatchewan Toots garnered the love and respect of her students and coworkers who also became lifelong friends. In 1967 Toots and Joe decided to make the move to Kelowna, B.C. where Toots continued in her beloved career for many more years. Toots may have retired but she never slowed down; always on the move she enjoyed her retirement with an active social life and helping whoever needed it. She traveled, shopped, hit the casino once in a while, and kept in touch with her wide circle of family and friends. Her caring, generous spirit, her sharp wit and her unmatched love of life are trademarks that will be missed and cherished by all who knew her. She is to be interred beside her husband in Kelowna, B.C.
Anna J. Pingert
Anna J. Pingert late of Radville and formerly of Pangman, passed away on March 1, 2009 at the age of 96 years. Anna was predeceased by her parents, Leopold and Katherine Dormuth; husband Nicholas Pingert and grandson Darcy Pingert. She is survived by her daughter, Diana (Dennis) Day, Calgary, AB, and Diana's children: Vern (Kathy) and their children (Chelsea & Tyler), Deborah and her son [Dylan (Marcie) & their son Lane], Leanne (Chuck) and their children [Joshua & Jesse]. Her son Ronald (Laura) Pingert, Pangman and their children: Rhonda and her children [Fabreanne & Thomas], Clayton (Gaylin) and their children, [Raylene (Jason) and their son [Mason], [Dustin (Justine Lillijord) and Darcy], Leopold (Laura Jean) and their children, [Emory & Ronnie]; brother-in-law, Ted (Mary) Pingert, Pangman; sister-in-law, Louise Pingert, Assiniboia as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Prayers were held on Tuesday March 3 at 7:00 p.m. and the Funeral Mass was held on Wednesday March 4, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. from the Holy Angels Roman Catholic Church, Pangman with Fr. Prince Kurisinkal officiating. Active pallbearers were Wilbur Aspen, Wayne Lozinsky, Brad Pingert, Tom Kessler, Murray Silljer, Peter Sotropa. All of Anna's grandchildren and great-grandchildren were considered honorary pallbearers. Interment followed at the Pangman Cenetery. Jean Hall
Jean Hall was born May 24, 1923, she was 85 years of age and passed away February 20, 2009. She is survived by her husband, Howard Hall of Weyburn, Barbra Douglas of Vancouver, BC, Garnett Hall of Edmonton, AB, Farrell Hall of Port Moody, BC and Grant Hall of Regina. Jean had two nephews, one neice, four grandchildren and one great grandchild. Jean was a resident of Weyburn Special Care Home for 21 years. Her funeral service was held on Monday, February 23 at Weyburn Special Care Home.
George James Bathgate
George James Bathgate of Pangman, formerly of Yellow Grass, passed away quietly on March 6. George was predeceased by his parents, Jim and Mary Bathgate, his son, Robert George, his brother, Jack and his sister, Betty. George will be remembered by his loving wife of 62 years, Neta Bathgate of Pangman and their family: Jim Bathgate (Arlene McCann) of Doha, Qutar; Judy (Bob) Schwindt of Pangman; Janet Bathgate of Regina; Kathy Bathgate of Weyburn; Kerry (Debbie) Bathgate of Yellow Grass; grandchildren: Krista (Kris Heale) Svedahl and their son, Adam of Rossland, BC; Rob Svedahl of Pangman; Conrad Bathgate of Regina; Matt (Courtney) Bathgate of Saskatoon; Anthony Bathgate of Saskatoon; sister-in-law, Betty Bathgate of Nokomis; special nieces, nephews and their respective families: Rosemary and Howard Belliveau; Jack and Linda Collins; Hazel Eddy; Anne and Malcolm Hill; Mary and Darryl Strudwick; and Nancy Erb. George was born on December 25th, 1914 to Jim and Mary Bathgate. He was the eldest of three children. After his mother died in 1926, the family became separated. George then spent several years living with and working for other families in the Yellow Grass area. In June, 1940, George, along with twelve other Yellow Grass men joined the Regina Rifle Regiment as Canadian volunteers in WWII. For the next five years, George served with this Regiment and developed a very strong bond with his fellow soldiers a bond that remained in tact for his entire life. After WWII, George returned to Yellow Grass and worked at road construction, trucking, and at operating a small scale dairy before settling into the position of operating a grain elevator. George married Neta Thornton in 1946 and over the next several years had six children Jim, Judy, Janet, Kathy, Bob, and Kerry. In 1955 George purchased a farm west of Yellow Grass where he farmed and raised cattle until 1990, when he retired at the age of 77. In the early years of this farming operation, George remained working at the Pioneer Grain elevator so working days were long and days off were rare. In spite of that, he always had time to support family and community activities. One very important aspect of community was George's extensive involvement with the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #266. Once George was able to acquire more farm land, he quit working at the elevator and could devote full time to farming. He especially enjoyed his many connections with friends and neighbours, particularly with Ken and Sue Wood and family. Also, during this time, George and Neta had the opportunity to travel. They visited family and friends throughout Canada, the UK and Scotland. In addition, they hosted several visitors (family and friends) from Canada, Scotland, Malawi, and Tanzania. Of course, all the while George shared his stories and listened to the life experiences of others. Special highlights were the visits of George's brother Jack and his family. Although George did not have the opportunity to acquire an extensive formal education, he always encouraged his children to do so. Consequently, George took great pride in the fact that his 'kids and grandkids' are well-educated and responsible, contributing members of their respective communities. Attending the annual Regina Rifle Reunion on the first weekend in June was always a priority with George. He and Neta seldom missed this event. It provided them with the opportunity to rekindle friendships and enjoy the camaraderie of the other "Regina Johns". The last reunion that George and Neta attended was in 2007 when the regimental Commander-in-Chief Princess Anne was there to recognize her Rifle Regiment's 100th Anniversary. The presence of royalty was important, but what made the event more memorable for George was the attendance of his children and grandchildren. The Bathgate contingent at that reunion was a large one. George spent many hours walking and of course, his walks often included stops to visit with those he happened to meet along the way. He loved to visit and to tell his stories of his life experiences. Those experiences were many and were varied but they always brought George back home home to Yellow Grass. Funeral services were held Tuesday, March 10th at 2:00 p.m. from the United Lutheran Church in Yellow Grass with Colette Baker officiating. Tributes were given by Dennis Chisholm and Jim Bathgate. Members of the Royal Canadian Legion held the Last Post service. Interment followed in Yellow Grass Cemetery. The Pallbearers were: Rob Svedahl, Conrad Bathgate, Matthew Bathgate, Anthony Bathgate, Norman Dunsmore and Brian Wood. Donations may be made in memory of George to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or to the Deep South Personal Care Home, Pangman. Mike Lizuck
Mike Lizuck passed away March 5th, 2009 at the age of 83 years old. He was predeceased by his parents Nikolas and Annie Lizuck, brother, Joseph Lizuck, sisters, Doris Bell and Pearl Schad, brothers-in-law Ernest and Eddie Ror, sister-in-law, Louise Dokken, mother and father-in-law Enoch and Emma Ror, daughter Dianne Marie Marlin. He is survived by his loving wife Lillian Lizuck, Goodwater, children: Dennis (Lynne) Lizuck, Weyburn, Barry (Loretta) Lizuck, Moose Jaw, Connie (Gary) St. Onge, Estevan, Vicky Lizuck, Weyburn, Patti (David) Underwood, Colgate, Denise (Bill) Fonstad, Estevan, Wendy Strom Weyburn, Steve Lizuck (Angel), Weyburn, son-in-law Stan Marlin, Assiniboia. 26 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Pallbearers were Bud Anderson, Johnny Johnston, Wayne Johnston, Zyg Siwy, Douglas Underwood, Michael Underwood. Honorary Pallbearers were Trevor Lizuck, Norman and Karen Jordan, Ken and Jean MacLean, Max White, Don and Dorothy Wilkinson. The funeral service was held on Monday March 9 at the RD Family Funeral Chapel with Rev. John Ferrier officiating. Interment followed at the Colgate Cemetery, Colgate. Mike was born on October 14, 1925 at Colgate, the second child for Nick and Annie Lizuck. Mike had an older brother Joe and sisters Doris and Pearl. Mike received all his education at Colgate until he quit school to help his dad on the family farm. On June 25, 1945 Mike married Lillian Ror, the youngest member of the Enoch family. Their first home was on the Walter Paul place, two miles east of Colgate on Hwy 35. They lived there for one and a half years. In the fall of 1946, Mike and Lillian moved to a suite in the Colgate Hotel. Mike worked for the C.N.R. with Mr. Gesner Lawrence as his foreman. In the summer of 1947, Mike and his dad moved part of the Walter Paul house into Colgate, built on an addition and this became the family's new home. In the fall of 1949, Mike moved their little home into Weyburn to Hill Ave. Mike started working for the Dept. of Highways. He later worked for Sonny Cugnet as a helper at the Pool Elevator. In the spring of 1951 Mike became the agent of the Pool Elevator in Grassdale. Mike and Lillian now had 5 children - Dennis, Barry, Dianne, Connie and Vicky. They all lived in a one bedroom living quarter attached to the elevator office. In the spring of 1957 there was an opening for a Pool Agent in Goodwater. It was a good move, house with 3 bedrooms likely 3 times bigger than the old residence, a good school and grocery store. Mike continued on as Pool Agent until the fall of 1961. A TB survey showed a shadow on Mike's lung, surgery revealed he had a tumor full of grain dust, it was removed and the doctor suggested he find different work. That same year Mike and the family moved into a vacant teacherage which his kids always referred to as "The White House". After a short work experience with Caproco, Mike started to work for Central Del Rio in April of 1962. It later became Pan Canadian and now EnCana. In July of 1963 the family, who now had two more children Patti and Denise, moved into the Dalgliesh house. It was even bigger with 4 bedrooms, a stocker furnace and for the first time ever running water and a real flush toilet. In November of 1974 Mike bought what used to be the the Goodwater store. Dad wasn't sure what he'd do with it, but with help from Eugene Irwin, family and friends, he converted the store area into the family's new home. Mike and the family now complete with Wendy and Steven moved into this different home in October 1975. Mike was still residing there up to his passing. Mike retired from Pan Canadian in May of 1987. He enjoyed helping at Mainprize Park as a volunteer. He enjoyed ice fishing and some of the children enjoyed it with him. Mike's bark was always worse than his bite. He had a soft side that really didn't show. He loved his animals, one of these dogs would always be around him. For the last year Mike and Harley humored each other. The last few months Mike had talked repeatedly about "I wish I could just go." He got his wish and he is suffering no longer, we will all miss him.
