DONALD DAWSON

DONALD GERALD DAWSON (SOMOLENKO), beloved father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother passed away Wednesday, July 12, 2006 at the age of 76, with his family by his side. Born in Weyburn on April 16, 1930, Don attended Grand Meadow Country School and Verwood High School. Don grew up in the Viceroy, Verwood district. He met Wilma while working in Regina and they married on June 5, 1953. They moved to Moose Jaw in 1955 where he worked for Excelo Appliance and later purchased the business in 1976. Don’s son Jerry purchased the store in 1994. Don was predeceased by his wife, Wilma Dawson – (1995), father, George Somolenko – (1982), mother, Minnie Somolenko – (1983), mother-in-law, Clara Hayes, father-in-law, Bill Hayes, and brother-in-law, Andy Verhaeghe – (1996). Don is survived by his daughter, Donna (Bruno) Sculli and their children: Miranda, Marissa and Michelle – all of Grand Coulee, his son, Jerry (Linda) Dawson – Moose Jaw and daughter, Julie (Kirk) Onrait - Calgary, sister, Phyllis Verhaeghe - Moose Jaw, brother-in-law, Cliff (Dorcus) Hayes – Saskatoon, his great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews who loved their uncle. Don is also survived by a very special friend, Lyla Knight. Don loved to take winter vacations to Arizona, Hawaii and Las Vegas. He enjoyed playing “bid 500” with his family and found great enjoyment being with his granddaughters and watching them dance at the Italian Pavilion during Mosaic in Regina. He hardly missed a day of meeting his close friends for coffee. Following cremation at Prairie Memorial Crematorium, a Memorial Service will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel on Friday, July 14, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. Memorialization will take place at a later date in the Prairie Memorial Columbarium. In lieu of flowers, memorials to a charity of one’s choice would be appreciated. In living memory of Donald, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

MABLE ERICKSON

Margaret “Mable” Erickson of Chateau St. Michael, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Saturday August 11, 2007. Mable was born in the Darmody district May 5, 1914. She is predeceased by her husband, Melvin (Jack) in 1965, brothers Phillips and Ted Wilkins; grandsons Garth Hooey, Kevin Munroe, and Edward Munroe; a great-great-granddaughter; son-in-law Neil Hooey; and sister-in-law Almeda Wilkins. Mable is survived by three daughters: Alice (Hal) Keir – Moose Jaw, Doris Hooey and Shirley Abrams - Calgary; grandchildren: Patricia Munroe, Cheryl (Kurt) Chow, Doug (Dianne) Munroe, Gayle Nielsen, Sheila Dixon, Barry (Nicole) Hooey, Keith Hooey, Lori Hooey (Rob), Shelley Hooey, Tricia (Kyle) Mitchell, and Brian (Shawneen) Abrams; 17 great-grandchildren; 9 great-great-grandchildren; sister Laura Erickson; brother Harold (Ethel) Wilkins; sisters-in-law Mildred Wilkins and Dolly Erickson; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and special friend Rita (Lyle) Klindt. Mable enjoyed many trips to Hawaii with various family members. She was an avid bridge player and spent many enjoyable hours at the Cosmo Centre, where she was a life member. She also traveled to bridge tournaments throughout the area. The family would like to thank the staff at Chateau St. Michael and all those who visited Mable while in hospital. The family also expresses appreciation to the staff of Second West (Union Hospital), Dr. Lawrence and Dr. Sanderson for their compassion and caring. The Funeral Service will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Wednesday August 15, 2007 at 1:30 pm. Pastor Marvin Seaborg will officiate. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday evening 7 – 9 pm at the Funeral Home. Memorials to the Moose Jaw Union Hospital Foundation, 455 Fairford St. E., S6H 1H3, or to Chateau St. Michael, 525 7th Ave. S.E., S6H 8B6, would be appreciated.

FRANCIS FAY

Mr. Francis Fay, age 80, of Moose Jaw, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2007. Francis was born in the Gravelbourg district April 28, 1926 to Berta and Peter Fay. He joined the Royal Canadian Airforce in 1943 and was a rear gunner, stationed in India. Francis married Anna Carey in 1950 and they raised four children while farming in the Gravelbourg and Palmer districts. In 1978 he moved to Moose Jaw where he enjoyed looking after his yard and babysitting his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his parents and a premature baby, his brothers, Lloyd, Lucien, and Norman, and sisters, Florence and Cecilia; seven brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law. He is survived by his wife, Anna; children: Doris (Richard), Marilyn, Wayne (Colleen), and Jean (Ken); grandchildren: Dale, James (Selina), Jeannette (Jaymie), Michelle (Richard), Kristie, Shane, and Ryan; great-grandchildren: Taylor and Emily; sisters: Annette, Mildred, Eileen (Victor), Mavis (Allan) and Eunice; five sisters-in-law, and three brothers-in-law. The Funeral Service will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Friday January 12, 2007 at 1:30 pm. Reverend David Moore will officiate Royal Canadian Legion Funeral Rites will be conducted by Roscoe Steele. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery. Memorials to the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund, 268 High ST.W., Moose Jaw, S6H 1S8, or the Canadian Mental Health Association, 261 High St. W., Moose Jaw, S6H 1S7, would be appreciated. In living memory of Francis, a tree has been planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

EVELYN McDERMID

After a good and long life, it is with great sadness that the family of Olga Evelyn “Evie” McDermid announces her passing at Pioneers Lodge in Moose Jaw on January 2, 2005. Evelyn was born in Centerville, South Dakota April 30, 1905 and in 1906 moved to the Trossachs area where she attended school. She married Bill McDermid in 1928. The couple moved to the John Frickey homestead and lived there until 1945 when they moved to Radville, where they resided until Bill’s passing in 1957. Evelyn spent time between Moose Jaw, Weyburn, and Radville, until returning to Moose Jaw where she spent her last years at Pioneers Lodge and Village. Evelyn enjoyed life to the fullest with activities such as being a seamstress, cooking, playing the piano, dancing, a great game of cards and had a love of fashion. Evelyn is predeceased by her parents, Carl and Anna Carlson, beloved husband Bill; and siblings: Arvid, Louis, Dave, Tillie, Mildred, Carry, Maggie, and Karl. She is survived by her two daughters: Gladys Jefkins of Winnipeg; Wilna (Lawrence) Temple of Moose Jaw; grandchildren: Jane Willett, Keith (Joy) Jefkins, Mark (Jackie) Jefkins of Winnipeg; Laurel (Duane) Scharfenberg of Medicine Hat; Curtis (Carrie) Temple of Moose Jaw; Rod (Tracy) Temple of Edmonton; Todd (Allie) Temple of Calgary; thirteen great-grandchildren; and in-laws Ariel and Adolph Krausher of Radville. A Celebration of Evelyn’s life will be held on Saturday January 8, 2005 at the Radville United Church, Radville, SK at 2:00 pm. Flowers are gratefully declined. In living memory of Evelyn, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

CAPTAIN MILES SELBY

Captain Darren Miles “Milhouse” Selby died tragically on Friday, December 10, 2004 while training for his new solo position with the Canadian Forces Snowbirds. Miles was born July 24, 1973 in New Westminster, British Columbia. Miles resided in Tsawwassen, British Columbia where he received his education and later became a member of 828 (Hurricane) Royal Canadian Air Cadets Squadron. His passion for aviation led Miles to join the Canadian Armed Forces following high school graduation and attended Royal Roads Military College where he achieved a Bachelor of Science degree. He was then trained to wings standard as a pilot in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. His outstanding training performance led to him being trained as a tactical fighter pilot on the CF-18 Hornet. While posted to 416 (Lynx) and subsequently 441 (Silver Fox) Tactical Fighter Squadrons, he served with the Canadian detachment at Aviano, Italy flying combat and close air support missions into the Balkans. During this time he met the love of his life, Julie Anderson, whom he married in April, 2002. His application and tryouts with 431 Air Demonstration Squadron (Snowbirds) led to his being accepted as Snowbird 4 for the 2004 air demonstration season. Miles died doing what he loved most while training with the Snowbirds for the 2005 season. Miles had a lifelong interest in sport fishing and scuba diving which he enjoyed doing with his family and especially his adoring wife, Julie. Miles is survived by Julie, parents, Roland and Kristin, grandparents, Georgette and Don Kyle, and his in-laws: John, Barbara and Scott Anderson. Funeral Services will be held at Hangar # 4, 15 Wing Moose Jaw on Wednesday December 15th 2004 at 1:00 pm. Padre Richard Larsen and Padre Mike Brown will officiate. A Memorial Service will be held in Tsawwassen, B.C., Miles’ home at the Tsawwassen United Church on Friday December 17th at 1:00p.m. For those so wishing, memorials in memory of Miles may be directed to the Canadian Lung Association, 1231 – 8th St. E., Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, S7H 0S5, MSF Doctors Without Borders, www.doctorswithoutborders.org or to the Sponsoring Committee 828 (Hurricane) RCAC Squadron. ROBERT RITTWAGE

Robert James Rittwage, passed away September 30, 2007 at the age of 82. Robert retired from the P.F.R.A. after 35 years of service, follwed by 27 years of retirement. He was a gentle man with never a harsh word towards others, at work or at home. Bob had proudly served in Europe during WWII, from 1944 – 1946. He enjoyed gardening, walking in Wakamow Valley, and visiting with friends at the Legion. Robert was always ready to lend a hand when asked, and enjoyed fixing and repairing items for others. He loved spending time with his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Predeceased his siblings, Bessay Juhas, Jack Rittwage, Charlet Brown, and Dorthy McKracken, he is survived by his family: Barbara (Roger) Dickson, Betty (John) Meyer, Brian (Laurie) Rittwage, Dave (Cindy) Dennis, Donna (Greg) Nolting, Jerry (Colleen) Rittwage, John (Charlotte) Kerelchuk, Kelly (Dave) Newton, Leslie (Corrie) Willfong, Linda (Larry) Vibert, Peggy (Frank) Coghlin, Ron (Pat) Neufeld, Shanda Grimshaw, Stacy Rittwage, and Starla (Dennis) Jacobson; his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and his siblings, Pearl Woods, Bert Rittwage, and Connie Rittwage. The Funeral Service will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Thursday October 4, 2007 at 1:30 pm. Padre Doug Shepherd will officiate. Royal Canadian Legion Funeral Rites will be conducted at the Chapel by Chuck MacMillan. Interment will follow in the Veteran’s Section Rosedale Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be Wednesday evening 7 – 9 pm at the Funeral Home. Memorials to the Royal Canadian Legion Poppy Fund, c/o 268 High St. W., S6H 1S8, or the Canadian Cancer Society, 61B Ross St. W., S6H 2M2, would be appreciated. PHILIP MOBERLY

Philip Bernard Maclean Moberly passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Tuesday, May 8, 2007 at the age of 79 years. He is predeceased by his parents Helen and Bernard; and brother Walter. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Angela; children: Egon (Monika) Lauer, Pauline Moberly (Clem), Sylvia (Michel) Donais, Siegfried (Cathy) Moberly, Angelika (Gary) Foster, Bernard Moberly; grandchildren: Melanie (Marco) Bernhard, Alexander Moberly, Jonathan Donais (Crystal), Daniel Donais, Stephanie Foster, and Gage Foster; great-grandchildren: Marco Bernhard, Amelie Bernhard, Brooklyn Donais; brother Donald (Gwen); sister Sheila; several nieces and nephews; dear friends Felix Polster and Hector MacPhee; and his furry pals Jody, Csian and Haley. Dad was a member of the Canadian Armed Forces for thirty-three years. He served his country as an Avionics Technician in Germany, Japan, Korea, and at home in Canada. After his retirement from the forces as a Master Warrant Officer, he went to work with the Manitoba Research Council until his retirement from there in 1993. Dad had a keen and varied interest in learning and was always willing to impart his wisdom. He had a quick wit and a sparkle in his eye when he thought he got one over someone. He believed deeply in the well being of animals and enjoyed the companionship of his animal friends. His positive outlook on life, unconditional love, and compassion are traits that we are thankful he shared with us and that we can pass on to our own families. Thank you to Dr. Geyer, Dr. Majid, and the staff of Five Hills Health Region for their compassionate care of dad and support for the family. A private interment for family will be held at Rosedale Cemetery on Saturday May 12, 2007. Father Michael Conteh will officiate. Memorial donations in Phil's memory may be made to the Sask. Heart & Stroke Foundation, 2360 2nd Ave., Regina, S4R 1A6, the Sask. Lung Association, 1231 8th St. E., Saskatoon, S7H 0S5, the Moose Jaw Humane Society, Box 1658, S6H 7K7, or to a charity of your choice, would be appreciated.
