Eva Geib, aged 78 years of Moose Jaw, passed away peacefully July 24, 2004, after a brief illness. Eva was born in the former Yugoslavia and came to Canada in 1948. She later met and married Adam and together they farmed in the Spring Valley district and raised five children, moving to Moose Jaw in 1965. Predeceased by her husband Adam, she will be sadly missed, but never forgotten, by her sons: Dennis (Yvonne), Ron (Alice), Gary (Barb), Ken and daughter, Marlene (George) Frechette. Mom’s longing wish was to someday return to Europe. Although not able to revisit her village in Yugoslavia she did make a trip to Germany in June 2003 where she was reunited with many of her childhood friends and relatives. She especially enjoyed dancing, preparing feasts and visiting with family and friends all the while maintaining a meticulously clean household. Mom enjoyed spending time with her family, especially on holidays and always took pleasure in the many visits with her grandchildren. She also leaves to mourn many in-laws, nephews, nieces and friends. A special thanks to all those who provided care and comfort in her last days. An Evening Prayer Service will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Tuesday July 27, 2004 at 7:00 pm. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Church of Our Lady, 566 Vaughan St., on Wednesday July 28, 2004 at 10:00 am. Father Gerry Bauche will be the Celebrant. Cremation will follow and memorialization will take place at the family plot, Rosedale Cemetery at a later time. Memorials to the Canadian Cancer Society, 61B Ross St. W., Moose Jaw, S6H 2M2, would be appreciated. In living memory of Eva, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. KATHARINE "KATIE" ANDERSON
KATHARINE EDNA (KATIE) nee: Wiens, passed away Thursday, May 15, 2003, at the age of 89 years. Born at Wymark, Saskatchewan December 26, 1913, Katie worked as a Nurse’s Aide at the Moose Jaw Union Hospital for 21 years. She was an active member of the Cosmo Centre and the Scandinavian Club. She also sang with several choirs: Scandinavian, Sweet Adalines, Sons and Daughters of the Pioneers and Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Katie was always bright and cheery, had a twinkle in her eyes, and a memorable smile – she will be missed, we loved her dearly. Predeceased by her parents, Jacob and Katharina Wiens, husband, Elmer Anderson in 1981, sister, Mary Overly and brother, Ed Wiens. Katie is survived by daughter, Julie Taylor of Moose Jaw (Ronald Brown of Eyebrow); granddaughters: Kayla (Brian Ling) of Moose Jaw, Pamela (Chris Kemps) of Langley, B.C., Amy Leigh (Terry Poitras) of Delta, B.C., and great-granddaughter, Katie Taylor Kemps, son, Murray Anderson (Gwen Slater) of Chesley, Ont.; grandchildren: Troy of Kingston, Ont., Karin and Eric of Burlington, Ont.; sisters: Martha Chunn and Eva Sim of Winnipeg, brother-in-law, Geo (Lois) Holdal, sister-in-law, Doris (Harry) Spratt, as well as many loving nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, May 19, 2003 at 1:30 p.m. in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw. Marvin Seaborg will officiate. Private family interment at Bethany Cemetery will take place at a later time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Moose Jaw Cosmo Centre or to a charity of one’s choice. SHARON PILON
It is with great sadness the family of SHARON PILON announce her peaceful passing on November 25, 2003, at the age of 48. Predeceased by her son, Jimmy, her parents, grandparents and her first husband, Peter, Sharon is survived by her husband, Charlie Drover, daughter, Lana; two sisters: Arlene of Moose Jaw, Myrnia of Waterdown, Ont.; two brothers: David of Moose Jaw and Mervin of Winnipeg, MB, Aunt Dot in Austin, MB; four special friends: Lianne, MaryAnn, Gail and Darlene. Her greatest joy in life was the raising of her cats and her dog, Peppi. Her hobbies included knitting slippers and dishcloths for all her friends. She also volunteered at the Eagles club twice a week and attended monthly meetings. A Visitation for family and friends will be held Monday, December 1, 2003 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home. Reception will follow. Memorials to the Moose Jaw Humane Society or to the Children’s Wish Foundation would be appreciated. CLARENCE RILEY
Mr. Clarence N. Riley of Moose Jaw passed away on Saturday November 20, 2004 at the age of 87 years. Clarence was born in Swift Current on November 8, 1917. He is predeceased by his parents and one sister. Clarence is survived by his wife, Muriel – Moose Jaw, one daughter, Chris (Leroy)Wadham – Calgary and one son, Bill (Janice) – Veteran, Alberta; his eight grandchildren: Stephen, Deanna, Matthew, Brian, Daniel, Rachel, Kendall and Tyler; five great-grandchildren: Lucus, Joshua, Stephanie, Katelyn and Brooke, a sister, Dorothy along with numerous nieces and nephews. In keeping with the families wish cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Clarence’s Life will be held with the family inviting you to a gathering at St. Andrew’s United Church Lounge and Court on Wednesday November 24 from 2:30 – 4:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to the Providence Place Foundation, 100 – 2nd Ave. N.E. THE HONOURABLE RONALD A. MacLEAN
1931-2005
It is with sadness that the MacLean family announce Ron’s passing. Ron was born in Regina and spent his formative years in Gravelbourg. He attended high school at Campion College in Regina and Central Collegiate in Moose Jaw. Ron graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a BA degree in 1953 and received his law degree in 1955. Ron was admitted to the Bar in 1956. He practiced in Regina until 1959. It was in Regina that Ron met Laura Gallagher. They were married in 1957 and moved to Assiniboia in March of 1959. Ron, Laura and family would remain in Assiniboia until 1975. Ron was appointed Queen’s Council in 1968. In 1974 he was appointed to the District Court of Saskatchewan. In 1981 he became a Justice of the Court of Queen’s Bench when the two courts amalgamated. Ron retired from the Bench in 1998. Despite a busy home and professional life, Ron was a committed community volunteer in both Assiniboia and Moose Jaw. He thought it a civic responsibility to give back to his community. He sat on numerous boards and councils. Ron was a member of the Kinsmen Club, the Knights of Columbus and the Rotary Club. Over the years he served St. Joseph’s Church in several capacities. Most recently, he served on the board of directors of Providence Place. Ron was an excellent husband and father and a good friend to many. Honesty and integrity were central to his character. His diverse knowledge of many subjects and his genuine interest in others made him very engaging. His family was proud of him. Ron was predeceased by his son, Ronald Jr. in 1994. He is survived by his wife of forty-seven years, Laura, one son, Greg (Jana) and their children: Ronald and Benjamin; four daughters: Barbara (Les) and their children: Lara and Erica; Leslie (Roger) and their children: Sarah, Jared and Alexandra; Kara (Craig) and their children: Renae and Claire; Erin; and daughter-in-law, Kim (Keith) and their children: Catherine, Meagan, Rory and Leslie. Ron is also survived by one brother, David (Anne) MacLean of Medicine Hat, Alberta, and two sisters: Mona (Walter) Mahoney of Calgary, Alberta, and Susan (Michael) Carey of Windsor, Colorado. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews. The Funeral Mass and Celebration of Ron’s Life will be held on Friday, March 11, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 1064 3rd Avenue N.W., Moose Jaw. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. Prayers will be held Thursday evening 7:00 p.m. in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw. Celebrants are Father Alex Osei, C.S.Sp, Father Pat Gallagher, C.S.B. and Father Jack Gallagher, C.S.B. BRUCE ALBERT
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Bruce Charles Albert on May 13, 2004 at the age of 83. Bruce passed away peacefully with his family at his side. He was born in Vancouver, BC on June 17, 1920. Following high school, he served in the Navy as a petty officer cook on different aircraft carriers. Upon his return, he continued his culinary pursuits in such locations as Vancouver, Australia, Kamloops, and finally settled in Moose Jaw. He initiated the Commercial Cooking course at SIAST in 1960. His real pride was his ability to present food in a very artistic fashion. After a successful career, he experienced 24 joyous years of retirement in his two favourite places, Sun City, Arizona and Buffalo Pound Lake. Bruce took great pleasure in spending time with his children and grandchildren and following their achievements. He was a long time member of the Hillcrest Sports Centre, the Shrine Club, the Royal Canadian Legion, and the Sun City North Golf Course. Bruce is predeceased by his son, Bruce Jr. and leaves to mourn his loving wife of 49 years, Mary; daughter Diane (Walter) Pearson of Summerland, BC – children Randy and Bryan; daughter Barb Currie of Saskatoon; son Mark (Kerry) of Moose Jaw – children Kyle, Michael and Alison; daughter Lynn (Kevin) Tendler of Viceroy, SK – children Jereme and Jade; son Paul (Kate) of Saskatoon – children Gregory and Mitchell; Bruce Jr.’s children Andrea, Craig and Blaine; and sister-in-law, Sister Beatrice Anne of Hamilton, ON. The Funeral Service will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Monday May 17, 2004 at 1:30 pm. Pastor Bill Thomson will officiate. Royal Canadian Legion Funeral Rites will be conducted by Chuck MacMillan. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Sask. BETTE DEVINE
Bette Jean Devine (Ford), passed away peacefully August 27, 2005 in Moose Jaw. Bette was born September 24, 1921 near Gray, SK. She married Don Devine in Regina in 1944 and they later moved to the Devine family farm near Lake Valley, SK where they raised their four children. Bette was always a busy woman, wife, mother, grandmother, friend and neighbor. She taught Sunday School and was a life time member of the Lake Valley UCW, instilling a lasting spiritual dimension in her children. Bette was active in the community, introduced her children to sports, music, and social responsibilities. She loved her grandchildren and formed a strong, loving relationship with each one of them. With the constant love and support of her mother, the Ford families, the Devine families and many friends, Bette was able to endure some of life’s most difficult challenges. She was most grateful to all of you. Bette is predeceased by her parents Fred and Bessie Ford, her husband Don Devine, son Randy (Colleen), brother and sister-in-law Roy and June Ford, and two nephews, Gary Ford (Anita), and Glen Ford (Donna). Bette will be lovingly remembered by her children: Grant (Chantal) Devine, Judy (Wes) Vaughan, and Ben Devine; grandchildren: Michelle (David) Van Keppel of Indiana; Monique (Todd) Degelman of Saskatoon; David (Tracey) Devine of Winnipeg; John Devine of Calgary; Camille Devine of Regina; Jodi Vaughan (Jordan Hardy) of Regina; James (Tiffany) Vaughan of Langdon, AB; Ryan Devine of Regina; Dana (Mike) Filipchuk of Edmonton; nine great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
