DOUGLAS PAPPS

MR. DOUGLAS R. PAPPS, age 56, of Moose Jaw, passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2004. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2004 at 3:30 p.m. in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, Moose Jaw. Captain Stephen Kennedy will officiate. Memorialization will take place at a later date. For those so wishing, memorials to the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated. In living memory of Douglas, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

VIOLA DUNLOP

VIOLA VIVIAN DUNLOP (Brown) of Moose Jaw, passed away on Wednesday, June 11, 2003 at the age of 90 years. Born August 13, 1912 in Gaylord, Michigan, USA, she was predeceased by her husband, Jim in 1992; sisters: Effie, Aldine, Mable, Eva, Essie, and Gladys; brothers: Leo and Ray. Viola is survived by children: Doreen (Ole) Olafson of Moose Jaw, Joyce (Roy) King of Parkbeg, Ken (Sandra) Dunlop of Swift Current, Alex (Brenda) Dunlop of Porcupine Plain and Dixie (Dennis) Wagner of Regina; fifteen grandchildren, thirty-three great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, as well as many nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law, brother-in-law and many friends. Interment will take place at the family plot, Mortlach Cemetery Saturday June 14, 2003 at 10:30 a.m. The Funeral Service will be held Saturday at 3:30 p.m. in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, Moose Jaw. Pastor Dennis Plett will officiate. Visitation for family and friends will be held Friday (this evening), 7-9 p.m. at the Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Coteau Hills Bible Church Kids Club, Box 220, Mortlach, Sask., S0H 3E0. In living memory of Viola, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

THORNTON JOHNSTONE

Thornton William Johnstone, born September 15, 1911 in Moose Jaw, SK, passed away peacefully at home at the age of 91 on April 30, 2003. Thornton was educated in Moose Jaw at Central and later at Ross Collegiate. He worked very hard with his father and family members at the Johnstone Dairies which was started in 1935. In 1941 the Country Club was opened. Thornton had taken a two-week course in ice cream making and sanitation. In 1942 the Uptown Café was opened by the Thornton and his family. When Thornton retired in 1969, he helped his dad with Real Estate for eight years. Thornton contributed greatly to his community. He served on Council as alderman, was inducted into the Lions Club Hall of Fame in 2002, was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge, and the Masonic Lodge. He was a very active member of Zion United Church his entire life. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He loved attending his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren’s activities, was also an avid fan of the Moose Jaw Warriors, Sask. Roughriders’, girls’ fastball, baseball, and soccer. He was notorious for his regular attendance at the Johnstone Auction Mart and farm sales. Thornton was an extremely devoted man to those he loved. He touched so many lives and will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Thornton is predeceased by his parents, W.H. & Clara Irene Johnstone; wife, Margaret Elsie; two sisters, Kay and Clara; and four brothers, Jack, Ralph, Ron and Lloyd. He is survived by two sons, Bob (Bev) Johnstone; Ralph Johnstone (Laura); twelve grandchildren, Tamica Johnstone, Shannon (Mike) Coco, Rachael (Paul)Young, Ryan Johnstone, Nathan Hutchinson (Kara), Tyrone Johnstone, Brie Johnstone, Cody Johnstone, Jodine Johnstone, Jesse (Jill) Johnstone, Erin Johnstone (Patrick), Skai Johnstone (Ian), nine great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. He is also survived by two sisters, Jean Mintenko (Jack), Florence (Bob) Holmes, sister-in-law Betty Johnstone and brother-in-law Noel Elkin. The Funeral Service will be held at Zion United Church on Monday, May 5, 2003 at 2:00 pm. Dr. Bob Kimmerly and Linda Owens will officiate. Masonic Funeral Rites will be conducted at the Church. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Zion United Church would be gratefully accepted. In living memory of Thornton, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

ROSE NELSON

Rose Nelson of Moose Jaw passed away May 5, 2004 with her family at her side after a very courageous battle with cancer, at the age of 67. Rose was born on May 8, 1936 in Kayville, SK. to Joseph and Rose Gieni. She married Dale Nelson on April 7, 1955 in Ogema, SK. Rose loved to read novels, watch movies and spend time with her family. Her family was her main priority in her life, always putting their needs before hers. She loved spending time with her grandchildren. Rose will be missed by her family. Predeceased by her husband, Dale; parents Rose and Joseph Gieni; brothers, Wilson, Lloyd, Bill, and Robert Gieni; sister Victoria Stoner; brothers-in-law, Bob Hankins, Bernard Nelson, Leo Lavoie, Max Brooks, and Ken Iverson; and sister-in-law, Sylvia Gieni. Rose is survived by her children: Ken (Vera) Nelson and children, Jennifer, Stephanie, Caitlyn, and Jolee; Harvey (Marian) Nelson and children, Ryan (Marsha), Jessica (Justin); Valerie (Dean) Klippenstein and children, Amy Cojocar and Kyle; Laverne (Linda) Nelson and daughter Alaia; Shelly (Rob) McNulty and children, Kimberly, Marc, Jordan and Lea; great-grandson, Dustin Nelson – all of Moose Jaw; sisters, Mickey Hankins of Phoenix, Virginia (Ray) Chapman of Bellingham, WA, Anne (Vern) Zacher of Qualicum Beach, BC; Linda Lavoie of Edmonton, and Mary Iverson of Ogema; brothers, Louie Gieni of Regina, John (Loretta) Gieni of Moose Jaw; sisters-in-law, Barbara Gieni of Moose Jaw, Mary Gieni of Regina, Irene Gieni of Regina, Lorraine Caron (Jean) of Regina, Dorothy Brooks of Bengough, Karen Peterson of Bengough, and Audrey Nelson of Red Deer; and brothers-in-law, Don Stoner of Edmonton and Clifford (Helen) Nelson of Calgary; numerous nieces, nephews, and their families. A Celebration of Rose’s life will be held at the Alliance Church, Ninth Ave. NW and Thatcher Drive, on Saturday May 8, 2004 (on her birthday) at 1:30 pm with Bruce Ellergodt officiating. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. Memorials to the Moose Jaw Union Hospital Palliative Care, 455 Fairford St. E., Moose Jaw, S6H 1H3, would be appreciated. In living memory of Rose, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

LETA HABERMILLER

LETA HABERMILLER (nee Ray) – It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Leta Habermiller on Thursday, December 25, 2003, at Providence Place in Moose Jaw. Leta was born on November 13, 1925 in Mossbank, SK., the fourth child in a family of three girls and two boys. Leta was raised on a farm west of Mossbank and went to Thornhill School. While working on a farm near Vangard, SK., she met Mathew Habermiller. Matt and Leta were married on November 15, 1943 in Mossbank. When they were first married they farmed near Hazenmore, SK. In the 1950’s, they moved to Mossbank where Matt operated a construction business for many years. After retirement in 1978, they spent most of their winters in Mesa, AZ. Leta was a devoted supporter of her family, friends, church and community. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Mathew (Matt) Habermiller. She is also survived by her four daughters: Shirley Hendrickson (Gerald) of Palmer, SK., Corrine Haug (Moir) of Saskatoon, SK., Debbie Habermiller (Glen Jolly) of Mossbank, and Darlene Reid (Art) of Moose Jaw. Also left to grieve are her grandchildren: Wendy Hendrickson of Gravelbourg, Cindy Eiffert (Lorne) of Moose Jaw, Elling Haug (Jocelyn) of Sherwood Park, AB., Kristine Haug (Blair Panasiuk) of Edmonton, AB., Ian and Avery Haug of Saskatoon, SK., Ryan, Jenna and Kara Reid of Moose Jaw; five great-grandchildren as well as many other relatives and friends. The Memorial Service will be held on Monday December 29, 2003 at Providence Place Chapel, Moose Jaw at 10:00 am. Reverend Frank Mitchell will officiate. Flowers gratefully declined, memorial donations may be made to the Saskatchewan Alzheimer Association, #301-2550-12th Ave., Regina, SK., S4P 3X1. In living memory of Leta, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

ROBERT "BOB" FYSH

MR. ROBERT “BOB” FYSH, age 80 of Moose Jaw passed away on Thursday, July 1, 2004. Bob was always so proud to say that he had been born and raised in Moose Jaw. He worked for fifty years at Leonard Fysh Drugstore, starting as a delivery boy on a bicycle at age 14. His staff was his second family and he genuinely cared about his customers. Bob loved his profession of pharmacy. He served on many community organizations over the years and at the time of his passing he was a life member of the Kiwanis Club of Moose Jaw. Predeceased by his parents, Leonard and Mabel Fysh, a sister, Doris Fysh and a brother-in-law, Lawrence Laughy, Bob will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 53 years, Phyllis, daughter, Laurie (James) Eustace of Sherwood Park, Alberta and their children: Adam, Ben and Ryan, son, Greg (Barb) of Moose Jaw and their children: Cindy, Harvey and Robbie, daughter, Leslie (Evan) Tait of Fort McMurray, Alberta and their children: David, Heather, Jacqueline and Amy (Trent) Froese and their daughter, Megan, one brother, Fred (Marg) of Sarnia, Ontario, sister, Audrey Laughy of Wanham, Alberta, niece, Tracy, nephew, Mark as well as other relatives. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Tuesday, July 6, 2004 at 10:30 a.m. at W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, Moose Jaw. Reverend Dr. Donald Laing will officiate. Memorialization will take place in St. Andrew’s United Church Garden of Memories. Donations to Providence Place, 100-2nd Ave. N.E., Moose Jaw, S6H 1B8 or to the Moose Jaw Union Hospital, 455 Fairford St. E., Moose Jaw, S76H 1H3 would be appreciated by the family. In living memory of Robert, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

TERRY OXBORROW

On December 18, 2003, after a brief illness, Terry of Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta, formerly of Moose Jaw, went to be with his Lord and Saviour. Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 48 years, Esther; two sons: Geof (Bella) of Fort Saskatchewan; Brian of Moose Jaw; one daughter, Dianne (Jim) of Australia; two grandsons: Jordan and Eric of Moose Jaw; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins in England. Terry was born in Blyth, England in 1934 and came to Canada with his mother in 1948. He joined the RCAF in 1951, and served with the Armed Forces for 29 years. He was stationed in Ontario, France and Germany before coming to Moose Jaw, where he spent the next 28 years. Terry was an avid bowler, which was a major part of his life. He was also a youth bowling leader for many years. He served on the Board of the Army, Navy and Airforce Veterans of Canada, and did hospital visitations for many years. Terry loved his family and his many friends. His father and mother predeceased him. A Memorial Service will be held at W. J. Jones & Son Chapel on Saturday, January 24, 2004 at 1:30 pm. Pastor John Kreutzwieser will officiate. In lieu of flowers, memorials to a charity of choice would be appreciated. In living memory of Terry, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.
