VERA JONES

VERA JONES (nee: Lackey) of Providence Place, Moose Jaw, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Friday February 4, 2005 in her eighty-seventh year. Born at Creelman, Saskatchewan in 1917, she attended the Prairie Lee School in the Creelman/Fillmore district. Later she completed her Registered Nurse’s training and graduated from the Moose Jaw General Hospital in 1941. Vera married Irwin Jones in 1942. She was an active member with the Beta Sigma Phi, Social Sponsor and Honourary Member, as well she was a member of the St. Andrew’s United Church Social Group and the PEO Sisterhood. Family activities were her greatest joy and she especially enjoyed summers at the Buffalo Lake cottage with the family as well as the “lake crew”. Together they looked forward to winters in Mesa, Arizona spending more than twenty-two seasons with their many friends. Predeceased by Irwin in 1995; two daughters: Terry Lee Simle in 1976 and Jeanette Macza in 2001, and a great-grandson, Damien in 2001. Vera is survived by daughters: Pam (Greg) Holbrook and their family: Teryn & Janelle of Ottawa; Colleen (Frank) Riley and their family: Frankie (Jodie), Brenda (Clayton) Zurowski and their children: Dillan & Katelyn, and Heather Riley - all of Regina; son, Don (Jan) and their family: Darren and Angie, and Kerri (Rob) McLauchlan - all of Moose Jaw; son-in-law: Alex Macza - Saskatoon and family: Donovan (Teresa) and his children: Cody & Echo; Myles and his children: Harley & Jazmine of Red Deer and Kenzie in Saskatoon as well as several nieces, nephews and cousins. Vera’s life will be Celebrated in the Chapel of W. J. Jones and Son Funeral Home, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw on Wednesday February 9, 2005 at 1:30 p.m. Reverend John Carley will officiate. Interment will follow at the family plot at Rosedale Cemetery, Moose Jaw. In living memory of Vera, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

HARLENE GOODNOUGH

Mary Harlene Goodnough (nee Henry). After a long and courageous battle with cancer, our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother Harlene went to be with her Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ on January 3, 2005 at the age of 69 years. She was born in St. Walburg, SK on December 23, 1935. She is predeceased by her father, William Faye Henry. She is survived by her mother, Beatrice; brother, Ralph; five children: Wendy; Jana (Gary) Horsnall; Jeffrey (Beth); Dayan; Jason (Robyn); grandchildren: Joel (Amanda) Goodnough; Elyse Goodnough; Steven (Jennifer) Watterson; James (Kendra) Watterson; Arlow Horsnall; Jessica, Kya, and Alyx Goodnough; Ethan and Avery Goodnough; Bryson and Abigail Goodnough; great-grandchildren: Alexa and Brennan Watterson; Mya, Zechariah and Eden Goodnough; and Jayden Watterson; and many other aunts, uncles, and cousins. We would like to acknowledge the special friendship and kindness shown by Helen and Bob Burrows. Harlene will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her family and friends. Mom was a people person and enjoyed making new friends. Mom’s home and heart was always open. She loved cooking and baking and enjoyed entertaining people in her home. She was always a perfect hostess. Mom was an avid gardener and she always decorated her home and yard to fit any season. She enjoyed watching her children and then her grandchildren play hockey, ball and all other activities.
In keeping with Mom’s wishes there will be no funeral service, however there will be a celebration of her life for family and friends at the Church of God on Saturday January 15, 2005 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials to Joe’s Place, 402 Main St. N., Moose Jaw, S6H 3K2, would be appreciated.

SYBIL CHRISTENSEN

Sybil May Christensen (Moysey) of Moose Jaw, Sask.died peacefully on Saturday September 16, 2006 at age 89. Sybil was born in Eston, Sask. on May 4, 1917. She attended Moose Jaw Teacher's College in 1935 and taught school in Eston before marrying Clifford Christensen in 1940. They lived in Lanigan, Brownlee, Medstead, and Elrose, settling in Moose Jaw in 1954. Sybil returned to teaching in 1954 at William Grayson and King George School until her retirement in 1971. Sybil was a dedicated member of St. Andrew's United Church, especially Club XVI and the Octogenarians. She was a charter member of the Kiwaniannes of Moose Jaw, serving as secretary for several years, and a long time member of Pioneers Lodge Auxiliary. The library, the Spa, the Cultural Centre, and the Festival of Words received her unwavering support. She was predeceased by her parents, Jack and Mabel Moysey, brothers Teddy, Noel, and Kirby, and her beloved husband Cliff. Sybil is survived by her loving family: daughters Marion (Les) Martin of Moose Jaw, Anne (Barry) Mooney of Saskatoon, and Nora (Dave) Bowler of Moose Jaw; grandchildren: Leslie Martin of Calgary, Joan Martin (Dave Harvey) and their children Mira and Douglas of Saskatoon; Margot (Dave) Sauer and their sons Jordan and Brendan of St. Walberg, SK; Patrick (Shelly) Mooney and their daughters Alyssa and Emily of Southey, SK; Scott Mooney of Calgary; Meagan (Ben) Weber of Calgary; and Brad Bowler of Victoria, BC; brother Eric (Mary Jean) Moysey of Winnipeg; sister-in-law Helen Edwards of Victoria, BC; and many nieces, nephews and cousins in Canada, England, and Denmark. Sybil had a great love of music, reading, poetry, and humor. In her earlier years she enjoyed softball, curling and square dancing. Although there is sadness at her death, family and friends take comfort from contemplating the richness of her life. She lived her life with grace, dignity, and courage. She had many friends and cherished them. She was devoted to her family, and took special pride in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be dearly missed. The Funeral Service will be held Wednesday September 20 at 1:30 pm at St. Andrew's United Church, Moose Jaw. Sybil's niece, Reverend Teresa Moysey of Winnipeg, will officiate. Cremation will follow, with memorialization to take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials to St. Andrew's United Church, 60 Athabasca St. E., S6H OL2 or The Festival of Words, 217 Main St. N., S6H OWl, would be appreciated.

CECIL "BUCK" ALEXANDER BUCKLEY

Cecil Alexander Buckley, passed away on April 24, 2006. Born in Calgary, Alberta on April 9, 1923, Cecil was predeceased by his wife of 61 years, Elsie in November 2003. He is lovingly remembered by his special daughter, Judy (Steve) Mitchell; grandsons: Todd (Joanne) and Tyler Mitchell – all of Vancouver, one sister: Zillah Gossel and her daughters, Kathleen, Roxanne and Edwina of Victoria, sister-in-law, Ivy Morris of Moose Jaw, nephew Dr. Barry (Sonia) Morris of Vancouver; special grandson, Tom (Denise, Marissa, Taneshia and Tanner Wild, and special friend, Gail Fenwick. Buck retired from C.P. Railway and was well known for owning the E&B Rockhound Centre located in the Moose Jaw Co-op.
A Graveside Service will be held at Rosedale Cemetery on Friday, April 28, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. Linda Owens will officiate. Friends wishing to attend are invited to join a cortege at W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home Friday morning at 10:45 a.m. In living memory of Cecil, a tree will be planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

DENNIS S. SMALE

It is with sadness we announce the death of Dennis on January 15, 2007, after a courageous battle with cancer. Dennis was born at Wadena, SK. on July 8, 1931. He was a member of the Masonic Memorial Lodge #172, Perfection-A.C.R.C. and Consistory, and the Royal Canadian Legion. He was Past Captain of 1856 Moose Jaw School Cadet Corp. Dennis and Norma loved to dance and were members of square and round dance clubs in Moose Jaw and the Sask. Pattern Dance Association. Predeceased by his parents, Henry (Chub) and Ellen Smale. He leaves to mourn his family: wife, Norma; son, Dwight of Calgary, grandson, Keagan and Keagan’s mother, Lorri of Calgary; daughter, Heather (Darren) Tressel and granddaughter, Ashley of Saskatoon; son, David of Saskatoon; sister-in-law, Shirley of Kamloops; brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Lesley Smith; and nephew and nieces, Blair, Margo, and Jenna of Vancouver. At Dennis’ request, there will be no funeral. Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials to the charity of your choice would be appreciated. A Memorial Tea will be held on Saturday January 20, 2007 from 1:30 – 3:30 pm at St. Andrew’s United Church Lounge & Court.

GORDON MARZOLF

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gordon Marzolf on August 21, 2007 loving husband, father and grandfather. Gordon was born in Central Butte on November 28, 1933 the youngest of 8 children. He grew up on the family farm in Central Butte where he remained involved in farming throughout his life. Gordon married Irene Jubin on July 5, 1957 and they were blessed to celebrate their 50th Wedding Anniversary with family and friends in July. Gordon taught school at Shamrock and Coderre before starting at the Moose Jaw Post Office in 1958 where he was a loyal employee and well respected co-worker for nearly 34 years. In 1990 Gordon embarked on his second career - retirement. Gordon's passion was his family and he and Mom were a dedicated audience at his children and grandchildren's activities; he loved the many family gatherings, capturing memories in pictures and video recordings; he enjoyed garage sales, maintaining their park-like yard, his Christmas light displays and was proud of the years their home was part of the Twinkle Tour. During their retirement, Gordon and Irene became active bowlers touring many cities on bowling trips. The enjoyment of travel then took them to Hawaii, Disneyland, Alaska, Disney World, Toronto and Montreal (being avid baseball fans) and many bus trips. Gordon was fortunate to have 72 years of good health and in his final years faced cancer with faith and dignity. His gentle nature was rewarded with an equally gentle and peaceful death, leaving us as he slept. Gordon will be re-united in Heaven with his parents, Michael and Amye Marzolf; parents-in-law, Julius and Lena Jubin; son-in-law, Ron Ogle; sister, Alvera Woolacott; brother-in-law, George Jubin; niece, Karen McNaughton; and nephews, Gary Wilson and Bobby Wilson. Gordon will live on in the hearts of his wife, Irene; his daughters, Janice Ogle and her children, Steve, Lisa, Mark and Kevin; Paula (Irvan) Berg and their son, Justin; his sons, Brent and his daughters Kimberly and Ashley (Jean-Michel) and their mother, Cathy Marzolf; and Bob (Lori) and their daughters, Melissa and Kaitlyn. Gordon will be forever remembered by brothers, Howard (the late Betty), Edward (Dorothy), Archie (Evelyn); and sisters, Sadie (the late George) Wilson, Oralee (Herman) Grosfield, Gorda (Dick) Seymour; brothers-in-law Orville Wollacott, Ray (Sharon) Jubin, and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
The Funeral Service will be held at Minto United Church, 1036 Seventh Ave. NW., on Monday August 27, 2007 at 2:00 pm. Gary Johnson will officiate. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held Sunday evening 7-8 pm at W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home. In living memory of Gordon, a tree will be planted by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.

GUIDO FILIPPI

Guido Luciano Filippi passed away on August 23, 2007 in Vancouver, British Columbia at the age of 53. He is survived by his daughter Crystal and her sister Candace, his parents Piera and Gino Filippi, brother Poalo (Veba) Filippi, sister Rita (Darcy) Holowenko, nieces and nephews Angela (Darnell) Kiriak and their son Alex, Lisa (Tim) Bennett, Aidan Holowenko, and Olivia Holowenko. Guido was born in Lethbridge, Alberta on December 26, 1953. He grew up in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan where he worked for the CPR as a conductor. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Palliative Care Services at the Union Hospital care of the Moose Jaw Health Foundation, 455 Fairford St. E., Moose Jaw S6H 1H3. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 1064 Third Ave. NW., on Thursday September 6, 2007 at 10:30 am. Memorialization will take place at a later date.

GERALDINE ARBEAU

GERALDINE WILHELMINA ARBEAU (nee: Wilson) passed away on June 16, 2007, at the age of 94 years. She was born on April 27, 1913 to Cecil and Margaret Wilson. She grew up in Bradwell and Colonsay, attending school at Bradwell High School and Wilkie, Saskatchewan, graduating from Scott Collegiate in Regina. Predeceased by her husband, George in 1991, she is survived by two nieces: Gayle Calder – Calgary and Margaret McLean – Battleford and their families. The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, June 21, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel. Della Ferguson will officiate. Interment will follow in Rosedale Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to a charity of one’s choice. In living memory of Geraldine, a tree has been planted in Wakamow Valley by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.
