Frank Lawrence Tatum
On Friday, August 28, 2009, Frank Lawrence Tatum, formerly of Creelman, passed away at Lampman Nursing Home, Lampman, at the age of 77 years. Predeceased by his parents, Ernest and Maude Tatum, and his wife, Frances. Frank will be lovingly remembered by his two sons and their families: Keith (Jackie) Tatum of Moose Jaw. and their children, Nicole (Gord), Sean (Lynn), Duane (Shannon), Ryan and Jessie; and Earl (Cindy) Tatum of Belle Plaine and their children, Codie (Colleen), Kurtis (Krista) and Jamie (Kayla); 21 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild; one sister, Violet McLellan of Wolseley, one brother, David (Marion) Tatum of Winnipeg, MB, and three nephews. Frank Lawrence Tatum was born October 8, 1931 at Welwyn, where he was raised and attended elementary school. He married Harriett Hilts in Rocanville in 1950, they divorced in 1970. In 1972 Frank married Frances Blainey in Regina. Frank lived in several locations including; Arcola, Oxbow, Carnduff, Manor, Ontario, Weyburn, Fillmore and finally Creelman, where he lived for 16 years until moving to the Care Home in Lampman in 2006. He worked at a variety of jobs including; truck driver, restaurants and motel manager and a utility man in Creelman water management, weed control officer in Oxbow and Department of Highways foreman in Ontario. Frank worked intensively at cutting every blade of grass for the Creelman Fair. He loved working on the land, enjoyed fishing and hunting in his younger years. Frank socialized at the local hang-outs like the 55 Club or the local Café. Those who knew Frank will remember him for having an opinion whether you wanted to hear it or not. Funeral Services were held Thursday, September 3, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. from the Creelman Recreation Centre, Creelman with Rev. Nick Judson officiating. Interment followed in Golden Gates Cemetery, Creelman. The Active Pallbearers were grandsons: Sean, Duane, Jessie, Kurtis, Codie, and Jamie Tatum. Kenneth Clarence McLane
Kenneth Clarence McLane late of Weyburn passed away Monday August 31, 2009 at the age of 95 years. Ken was predeceased by his parents, Dan and Vida McLane, sister, Lois (Dwight) Litschke. Ken is survived by his wife, Joan McLane, Weyburn, children, Margaret "Peggy" (Cliff) Halladay, Regina, Elizabeth "Liz" (Gerald) Walkeden, Tribune, Lorna (Osvaldo) Montanini, Regina, grandchildren, Jennifer (Scott) and daughter Natalie, Nancy Lizuck, Jeff (Joanne) and son Nathan, Kyle (Michelle) and daughter Sophie, Erin (Mike), Kristopher and Miranda Montanini, two nephews, Gary (Helene) Litschke, Calgary, AB, Ron ("Willie") Litschke, Halbrite. Robert Alton Thompson
Robert Alton Thompson, late of Fillmore formerly of Tyvan, passed away at the Fillmore Health Centre on August 27, 2009, just days short of his 96th birthday. Alton was born in Francis and spent his entire life farming in Tyvan, with the exception of time spent in the Canadian Army during World War II. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Anna; one sister, Gertrude and three brothers, Obed, Clinton and Roy. He is survived by a sister-in-law, Joan as well as two nephews in North Carolina. A Memorial Service was held Wednesday, September 2, 2009 at 2:00 pm from Fletcher Funeral Chapel, Weyburn with Reverend Cordelia Karpenko officiating. Interment was held at the family plot in Tyvan Cemetery, Tyvan. Donations may be made in memory of Robert to the Fillmore Health Centre, Fillmore. Gilbert Francis (Gil)
Gilbert Francis passed away suddenly on July 31, 2009. Victoria, B.C. lost one of its most caring members of the motorcycle community. Predeceased by his parents, Alfred and Theresia Francis. Survived by ten siblings, Marge; George (Liz); Joan (Bob); Diane (Brian); Bud (Marg); Tom; Marion (Bill); John (Pat); Rose (Jim); Robert (Deb). Gil was born in Osage, moved to Victoria, B.C. in 1968, working as a floor layer and a carpenter, he most recently found his true calling as mechanic of Phoenix Cycle in Langford, B.C. Gil will be forever missed by his family and the motorcycle community. There was a celebration of Gil's life held at Langford, B.C. on September 5, 2009, starting out with over 200 hundred motorcycle's riding thru the streets of Langford and ending at the Legion Hall, where there was a celebration of Gil's Life, Gil had a lot of most caring friends, it was a happy but sad time for everyone.
Cecilia Jetta Johnsrude
Cecilia Jetta Johnsrude was born on August 27, 1910, the youngest of nine children of Isak and Jetta Reine, Norwegian immigrants who farmed seven miles east of Weyburn. She attended the East Weyburn and Marmora schools. Cecilia received her degree in music from the London Conservatory of Music in 1932. She attended Prairie Bible Institute (graduating in 1939) and for four years was in gospel mission work under the Mission Covenant Church in the Jasmin and Minton areas. She married Norman Johnsrude of the Talmage area on December 18, 1944. They had two children, Esther in 1945 and Harold in 1949. Initially, they lived in Alberta, then in the Griffin area and moved to Weyburn in 1957 where Cecilia taught piano lessons until her retirement in 1972. She was always actively involved in church work and was a member of the Silver Heights Bible Church. She had the gift of hospitality and besides hosting family and friends, missionaries and Christian workers were always welcome in her home. Cecilia passed away on Saturday, September 12, 2009 at Tatagwa View having just celebrated her 99 birthday. She was predeceased by her husband, Norman; her parents, Isak and Jetta; her brothers and sisters: Kenneth, Karoline (John), Irwin (Ella), Cora (Arthur), Norten (Lillian), Lillie (Magnus), Selma and George and is survived by her daughter Esther (Paul) Weeks of Orion, AB and children: Ardith (Jeff) Neufeld and children, Samuel and Daniel; Norten Weeks; and her son Harold (Colleen) Johnsrude of Didsbury, AB and children: Cherie (Trevor) Sanche and children, Danielle, Jacob and Luke; Allan (Michelle) Johnsrude and children, Isaac, Weston and Annika; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held on Monday, September 21, 2009 at 10:30 A.M. from the Silver Heights Bible Church, Weyburn with Pastor Harley Porter and Rev. David Shauf officiating. Active pallbearers were: Allan Johnsrude, Norten Weeks, Trevor Sanche, Jeff Neufeld, Walter Jaster and Dale Johnsrude. Honorary pallbearers were: Ted Johnsrude, Bob Starkey, Larry Reine, Mona Braaten, William Ratcliffe, Howard Johnsrude, Jane Moore and Murray Miles. Dorothea Evelyn ("Ev") Marno
Dorothea Evelyn ("Ev") Marno passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 12, 2009 with her family at her side. She will be sadly missed by her son, Don (Irene) Marno of Prince Albert, grandchildren, Carrie-Llynn (Bryan), Randy, Kevin (Elsee) and Barry; three daughters: Shirley (Larry) Fletcher of Saskatoon, grandchildren, Laura (Derek), Leann, John (Diana), Kathy (Scott), Carole (Walter); Sharyn (Ken) Kruger of Cartier, MB, grandchildren, Deagan and Andrea; Margaret (Doug) Brehaut of Mundare, AB, grandchildren, Darnell (Rob) and Stacey (Brian); 18 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren; sister, Helen Hanson of Quesnel, BC; sister-in-law, Agnes Hodge of Porcupine Plain and many nieces and nephews. Evelyn was predeceased by her husband, Lance, her father, William "Bill" McKee, mother and step-father Eva and Marshall McKague, brothers Ross and Roy McKee, sister Wileen 'Nip' McKague, sisters-in-law, Lillian Bray, Edna Bouchrd, brothers-in-law, Cliff Hanson, Glen Hodge, Bill McKague and Albert Bouchard. Evelyn was born on May 15, 1918 in Creelman where she was raised and attended school. In 1932 the family moved to Porcupine Plain. She married Lance on March 17th, 1940. They farmed in the Porcupine Plain area until 1941 and then moved to London, ON. In 1947 they moved back to Saskatchewan, finally settling in Weyburn in 1951. Ev was employed at the Saskatchewan Hospital as a Nurses Aid for 26 years where she made many dear and long lasting friends. In 1987 they moved back to Porcupine Plain to live out their retirement years. Ev loved to sew, knit, do crafts and tend her flower beds. Her passions were clean windows, and not only her own, rearranging furniture, well groomed flower beds and helping others. Lance and Ev spent the winters making blue jean purses and quilts. The purses were a very popular item and can be found in nearly every province in Canada. Funeral Services were held on Saturday, September 19, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Porcupine Plain Community Hall, Porcupine Plain. with Pastor Don Larwood officiating. Pallbearers were all of Evelyn's grandchildren and great grandchildren. Interment will be held at a later date. May Alphine Stovra
On Monday, September 14th, 2009, May Alphine Stovra passed away at Weyburn Special Care Home at the age of 99 years. May was predeceased by her parents, Ida and Edwin Ness; her husband, Arne Stovra; her daughter, Marion Irwin; sons, Vernon and Lawrence; grandson, Wayne Irwin; son-in-law, Jack Irwin; brother, Julian Ness and sister, Evelyn Larson. May is lovingly remembered by her daughter-in-law, Marilyn Stovra; grandsons, Bill (Annette) Irwin; Kelly (Sheila) Stovra and Brad (Jackie) Stovra; granddaughters, Maureen (Hal) VanSchubert and Janelle (Curtis) Mazur; as well as four great grandchildren. May was born May 18, 1910 to Edwin and Ida Ness in Barnsville, Minnesota. The family emigrated to a homestead in the Tribune area in 1916. May grew up there and married Arne Stovra in 1929. They raised a daughter, Marion and two sons, Vernon and Lawrence on a farm in the hills west of Maxim. She proudly received her Canadian citizenship in 1938. Many days of hard work were put in and without the convenience of electric power, running water and for a time, mechanized farm equipment. She stayed on the farm until shortly after the passing of Arne in 1973. she made her home then in Weyburn, spending many happy years in the Legion Towers and the last few years in the nursing home. May loved to sew, crochet and bake. She always had the coffee on, and had to drink it with a sugar cube and usually a couple of cookies. Although a quiet woman, she always loved to laugh and her giggle was infectious. Some of her most favourite pastimes were playing scrabble, whist and of course schemer. May had a very strong faith, a lot of her life revolved around the Emmanuel Lutheran Church. Not only did she have a love for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, she had a very close bond with her nieces and nephews. Funeral Services were held Friday, September 18, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. from Zion Lutheran Church, Weyburn with Pastor Marjorie, McLeod officiating. Interment followed in Maxim Cemetery, Maxim. Olga Weaving
Passed away peacefully, due to complications after surgery, at the Rockyview Hospital in Calgary, Alberta, on Friday September 4, 2009, at the age of 82. Olga is predeceased by her parents John and Catherine Mekilok; loving husband Ken; step father Philip Huber; dear sister Jean Zander, brother-in-law Steve Zander; nephew Sidney Zander and brother-in-law Peter Zamchira. She is lovingly remembered by son Ken (Francis), grandchildren Scott, Erin and Lindsay Weaving; daughter Donna (Bill Benson) , grandchildren Paula (Kevin Hills), Shane Abel (Julie Cobb), and great grandchildren Cooper and Deacon Hills; brother Max (MaryAnn) Mekilok; sister Ann Zamchira. She will be missed by her nieces, nephews, their families, and her many friends. Olga was born in Fort William, Ontario (Thunderbay) on March 5, 1927. This is where she met and married her soul mate Ken in 1947, and this is where they began their family. In 1959, their adventurous spirits took them to Weyburn to take over the Weaving Denture Clinic, which they operated successfully until 1994. Although missing her family in Ontario, she fell in love with the wide open prairies of Saskatchewan and, while there, made many long lasting friendships. In 2003 Olga moved to Calgary and took up residence at Trinity Lodge where she was known for her outgoing personality and kindness. A celebration of her life was held at The Holy Name Catholic Church, 2223 34th Street S.W. Calgary, Alberta, September 19, 2009 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
Sigfred Larsen
Sigfred Larsen born October 3rd, 1931 on the site of Riverside Gardens (now Larsen Farms Ltd) north of Radville; died peacefully September 29th, 2009 in Coquitlam, BC in the loving presence of his wife Joan and daughter Janet. He is predeceased by his father and mother, Carl and Siged Larsen; brother Jim and his wife Eveline; brother Carl and his wife Iona and nephew Johnny Larsen, as well as his mother-in-law Pat Woods. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Joan; his sister, Lilly Ann (Erik) Christensen, sister-in-law, Merith (Harvey) Hull; Sig was a dedicated father to his son, Murray (Charlene) Larsen MD; his daughters, Susan M. Larsen of Saskatoon and Janet L. (Roy Lewis) Larsen of Port Moody, BC; Sig loved children and was so proud to have six wonderful grandchildren: Michael (Tami) Larsen MD of San Francisco, Jason Larsen (dental student, NY, NY) and Kristal Larsen (medical student, NY, NY), Erika Findlay (dental hygienist student) Mississauga, Ont., Graeme Findlay future Rock Star of Saskatoon and Elsbeth Lewis, Grandpa's little angel in Port Moody, BC; his beloved family includes his nephews, nieces: Dale (Pat) Larsen and Barry (Lori) Larsen of Radville, Ken (Karen) Larsen of Regina, Karen (Mike) Bresselaar, Tom (Cindy) Larsen, Helen (Howard) Larsen-McKay, Saskatoon and Nancy (Graham) Larsen-James, Redvers, John Christensen of Kuala Lumpur Malaysia, and Linda (Dave Armstrong) Christensen of Pilot Butte, Shawn Hull of Calgary, AB and Jamie Hull of Leduc, AB, and many great nieces and nephews and cousins. As a small boy, Sig picked 110 lbs. of peas sold them for 1 cent a lb. used the $1.10 to buy a piglet then later sold the pig for $7.00 profit and from that built his future and on his road to success. He and his brothers Carl and Jim built a road gravel and construction business in the Radville area in the early 1950's. In 1963 they parted ways, Carl going into Market Gardening, Jim into farming and Sig formed his version of Larsen's Construction Ltd. He developed a 'washed aggregates' supply and then established a redi-mix operation in Radville in the early 1960's. In 1973 he bought North American Redi Mix in Weyburn and eventually expanded to Ogema, Assiniboia, Coronach and Gravelbourg, supplying concrete and aggregates for innumerable projects in Southern Saskatchewan until his retirement because of illness in 2002. His motto always was 'Serving Southern Saskatchewan no order too big or too small'. His proudest achievement as a business man came in 1974 when his company successfully supplied the concrete for the continuous pour slip form construction of the Weyburn Inland Terminal. He was an avid gardener who took great pride in his yard filled with flowers. He loved to golf, even getting a chance to give Lee Trevino pointers at an event in Saskatoon. He loved people with genuine feeling, loved to visit, chat, joke and tease. He loved music and enjoyed dancing. He enjoyed good times in Arizona which gave him more time to enjoy golf and friends. His teenage sweetheart, Joan was the love of his life; they shared 55 years of marriage. They were married September 22nd, 1954 and lived by Long Creek near Radville until their move to White Rock, BC after a tragic stroke forced his retirement. His heart stayed in Radville and he spoke often of the good times, people and wonderful memories of his life in Radville. A Celebration of Life was held Monday, October 5th, 2009 at 10:00 a.m. from Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, Radville with Rev. Dianne Robinson officiating. Bertha Irene Wiggins
On Tuesday, September 22, 2009, Bertha Irene Hazel Emily Wiggins of Weyburn and formerly of Fillmore, passed away at Hilltop Manor at the age of 94 years. Predeceased by her parents, John and Eliza Sleightholm; her husband Gordon (2004), a granddaughter, Michelle Hull; sisters, Maude (John) Nixon, Elsie (Fred) Hart, and Nellie (Shortie) Young; and brother Norman in infancy; brothers-in-law, Goldie Wiggins, Charlie (Lois) Wiggins, Bruce (Iona) Wiggins; sister-in-law, Stella (Clifford) Lackey; brothers-in-law, Bob Johnston, Dan Smith and Guy Holliday. Bertha will be lovingly remembered by her three children and their families: daughter Shirley (Ken) Fowler of Fillmore and their sons, Jeff (Karen) and children Rachel, Morgan and Amy; Calvin (Sandy) and children, Samantha and Nicole; son Larry (Marie) Wiggins of Fillmore and their son Michael Wiggins; Michelle's son, Mitchell Hull (Brittany); daughter Margaret Anne (Richard) Jones of Kindersley and their three children Craig (Rhonda) and her children, Aaron, Shawn, Trent Bodnaruk; Karen (Chris) Bye and their children Rhys and Callie; Troy Jones; sister, Merle Johnston of Regina; sisters-in-law, May Smith of Weyburn and Mary Holliday of Rosetown, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Bertha was born April 4, 1915 on the SW section of 16 Township 12 Range 10 West of 2nd Meridian in the Huronville district, where she lived until she married. She took her schooling at Huronville in a one room country school. On June 10, 1936, Bertha married Gordon Wiggins at the church manse in Fillmore. They lived on a farm across the road from her parents until they moved to the Wiggins homstead in the fall of 1948 where they continued to farm until they retired to Fillmore in 1975. Bertha was a typical farm housewife, involved in all aspects of farm life, and she loved to ride horseback in her younger days. She regularly attended church at Huronville, and in later years, at Fillmore. She was always active in the ladies organizations of the church. She also enjoyed quilting and playing cards. She was a member of the hospital auxiliary and the Senior's Drop-In Centre in Fillmore. In their retirement they enjoyed travelling to such places as Alaska, Disneyland and the West Coast. They moved to Hilltop Manor in Weyburn in April, 2003, where she resided until her passing. Family and all her relatives were very important to her. She especially enjoyed her grandchildren and great grandchildren when they came to visit. Bertha was always very thoughtful of others. Funeral service was held Saturday, September 26, at 2:00 p.m. from Fillmore United Church, with Rev. Nick Judson officiating. Interment followed in Fillmore Cemetery. The Active Pallbearers were her grandchildren: Jeff Fowler, Calvin Fowler, Craig Jones, Troy Jones, Michael Wiggins and Karen Bye. Teresa Hospod
Teresa Hospod, lovingly known as "Bapka", passed away peacefully September 25, 2009 at the Regina General Hospital at the prime age of 80. Teresa was born on January 10, 1929 in Grodzisko Gorne in southern Poland. She was the 4th in a family of 5, 3 sisters and 1 brother. Her family lived on a farm. As a young girl, during the 2nd World War she was forced into labour building railroads for the German army. She had to walk numerous kilometers in wooden shoes and work constantly to nightfall with little in the way of rest periods and rationed food, then walk home at night only to repeat again the next day. At the age of 23 in 1952 she married Jozef Hospod and they lived on her family farm raising a young family. They had 3 children, Krys, Dorothy and a son Stanislaw, who predeceased her at the age of 9 years. Teresa was a very community oriented person who was always first in line to assist whether it was organizing, helping out at community events or helping a neighbour. She had a very friendly and outgoing personality. In September 1982 she came to Canada with her husband Jozef and daughter Dorothy, having been preceded by daughter Krys. After 2 years they purchased a small house which they renovated and lived in until the passing of her husband in 1998. She sold the house about 2 years later and moved into an apartment where she lived until 2001 and then moved in with Dorothy, Mike, Kassandra and Ryan where she lived until the present time. Bapka loved her family and friends dearly, always showering them with food and drink. She loved knitting, making blankets, dish cloths and other items for her family, as well as baking everything from buns to many cakes and cookies. She always enjoyed spending time with her friends and family. Teresa will be sadly missed by her family. Left to mourn her passing are her two daughters, Krys (Emil) Ogieglo, and Dorothy (Michael) Lawrenz, her grandchildren, Lissa (Andrew) Peeling, Kassandra and Ryan Lawrenz, her special niece Ewa (Waldemer) Powjanski and their children Rafal and Nina (Patrick McLeod), a sister in Poland, and many other family and friends both in Canada and Poland. Teresa was predeceased by her husband Jozef Hospod and her son Stanislaw. Prayers were said Sunday, September 27th, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. at Fletcher Funeral Chapel, Weyburn. A celebration of her life was held on Monday, September 28 at Saint Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with Father Gerry Bauche officiating. The Pallbearers were: Kassandra Lawrenz, Ryan Lawrenz, Nina McLeod, Rafal Powjanski, Lissa Peeling and Andrew Peeling.
