Eva Margaret Benson
Eva was a strong woman and no one that knew her is surprised that she lived until she was 96 years old and was in excellent health until two years ago. Eva Margaret Benson, daughter of Charles and Lena Hoskins, was born on April 29, 1913 at Balgonie. Eva grew up in Balgonie and Broadview. Eva was a Registered Nurse who graduated from the Grey Nuns Hospital in Regina (1937) with her first employment being at the old Weyburn Hospital on the south hill. While working at the hospital, she meet and married Wallace Harold Benson (Wally) in 1941 and moved to the family farm Northwest of Weyburn. The farming life yields its share of trials, tribulations and successes but the community and the friends made would always bring back pleasant memories. When Eva and Wally left the farm in 1972 and retired to Douglas Road in Weyburn they were able to continue their long association with Grace United Church, the ladies Curling league and their many life long friends. After Wally died in 1994 Eva moved to Calgary to be closer to her family especially the great grandchildren that gave her such enjoyment. Eva passed away on August 20, 2009 at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary, AB. See was predeceased by her brothers; James in 1969 (California), Johnny in 2009 (California) and a sister Merle in1990 (Vancouver). As well as, Dick (Jean) Jean Benson; their daughter Lois Shupe (Weyburn and Settler); Beatrice (Nate) Paper, (North Dakota); Donald (Dunc) Anderson (Yorkton); Larry Rourke (Edmonton) and niece Marlene Hoskins (Broadview). Eva is survived by numerous loving family members. Two sons Blaine (Marcy, Victoria, BC) and Gerry (Roma, Calgary, AB); four granddaughters: Tammy (Ron), Dana (Cam), Heather, Christy (Mack) and Laura (Don); and five great grandchildren ranging in age from 20 to three years old-Shawnee, Devin, Riley, Alisa, and Carmen. Eva is survived by two of her three sisters and two of her four brothers. Surviving sisters: Irene Anderson (Dunc) of Yorkton and her children Josephine, George (Pearl) and Donald (Anna). Theresa (Larry) Rourke of Edmonton and her daughters Sheila (Ron) and Deborah (Denis). Surviving brothers: Charlie (Margaret) of Weyburn, sons Kelly and Terry; Edmond (Bernice) of Broadview, children Linda, Morley, Larry, Michael and Lisa; Gary the son of deceased brother James, (Washington State). Sharon and Monica Paper surviving daughters of Beatrice (Nat) Paper (North Dakota). Doug Shupe and his daughters surviving family of deceased niece' Lois Shupe. A memorial service was held on Thursday, August 27, at 2:00 p.m. from the South Calgary Funeral Center, 12700 Macleod Trail, South, Calgary AB. At a later date a memorial gathering will be held in Weyburn when Eva's ashes will be interned at the Weyburn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Eva to the charity of your choice. Funeral will be held at Grace United Church. Interment to be at Hillcrest.
Thelma Amilie Fisk
Jan. 19, 1914-Sept. 9, 2009
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Thelma (nee Tondevold) Fisk. Thelma is survived by her four daughters: Frances (Alfred) Schmidt, Colleen (Donald) Heebner, Bubbins (Eugene) Schmidt and Marlene (Reginald) Williamson, as well as 13 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, one sister Gladys Bosley, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband, Ossie, son Charles, daughter Betty, son-in-law Wayne, grandson Chris, and 10 siblings and her parents, Thor and Agnethe Tondevold. Thelma was born in Ogema where she attended school and lived until she married Ossie (Oswald) Fisk in 1935. Thelma enjoyed cooking, sewing and crafts. She was a dedicated wife and mother and her family was the centre of her life. In Weyburn she was a member of St. John's Ambulance, cooked for the crews at the Sask. Power Training School and worked at Fisk Repair Service, a small engine repair shop which her husband owned and operated. They retired in 1974 and moved to Kelowna, BC. Mom was a charter member of Grace Lutheran Church. Thelma rejoined the Rebekah Lodge and enjoyed the "Sons of Norway" functions. With her friend Irene, she played in many cribbage tournaments at the Water Street Senior's Center. In 2008, Thelma moved into the Village at Smith Creek in West Kelowna where she resided until her passing. The family would like to thank Pastor Ed for his support and loving care, the staff of Village Creek for the kind and compassionate care given to Mom. Special thanks are given to her friends, Sadie, Lena and Irma - you were and are very exceptional people. We also would like to express our gratitude to Dr. Erasmus, the emergency room doctors and nurses at Kelowna General Hospital and the nursing staff on 4 East. A memorial service was held at Grace Lutheran Church, 1162 Hudson Road, West Kelowna, BC on Thursday, September 17, 2009. In lieu of flowers, donations made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation. Interment to be held Friday, October 9 at 2:00 pm at Hillcrest Cemetary.
Marvin Ross McKinnon

Marvin is survived by his wife Mabel of 58 years, his brother John, sisters Ellen and Olive his children Gerald (Mary) Edward (June) Darwin (Loretta) Maureen (Jim) and Grant. He has 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his brother Gerald, father David, mother Eva, sisters Phyllis and Ethel and grandson Wolfey. Marvin was the 2nd son of David and Eva McKinnon of Heward. The depression years were difficult for the McKinnon family so Marvin was taught the value of hard work and thrift from his earliest days. By 1946 Marvin had completed a welding course in Winnipeg and was serving in the Canadian Navy Reserve. A couple of years later Marvin was well established in Calgary where he met and married Mabel Ekroth. During the mid 1960's Marvin moved his family to Prince Rupert where he had worked in the Pulpmill. Toward the end of the decade Marvin and family settled in Prince George. The years of Pulpmill and construction work did not interfere with a robust community life. Marvin and Mabel were very active sociably. They were longtime members of the Northern Twisters and the Order of the Eastern Star. Marvin was a 32nd Degree Mason, a Noble of the Shrine of BC & Yukon, and Past Associate Guardian for the International Order of Job's Daughters. Marvin was a principled man who valued his family and his community far above all else. It was Marvin's love, care and high regard for the whole of his large extended family that enables it to remain intact while spread over the vast area of western Canada. Marvin considered everyone he met to be his friend and treated all with a great deal of respect and courtesy. The deliberately inclusive and sharing manner in which Marvin lived his life will long stand as an example for all who knew him. There will be no service by request but a celebration of life will be held on Sunday, October 4, 2009 from 11:00 a.m. 5:00 p.m. at 13755 Blackwater Road. In lieu of flowers donations to the Canadian Cancer Society will be greatly appreciated.
Barry James Carson
Barry passed away on Saturday, September 19, 2009 at the Regina General Hospital at the age of 59 years with his daughters by his side. Barry was predeceased by his parents, James S. and Margaret L. Carson; aunts and uncles, Martha and Lloyd Ward and Jim M. and Jean Carson; uncles, Claude Williams and Clayton Ireland and his cousin Brenda Erb. He will be dearly missed by his two daughters and their families, Jani (Jeremiah) Carson-Prpich of Victoria, BC and Jennifer (Kevin Wright) Carson of Oxbow. Barry is also survived by his aunts, Audrey Williams, Gladys (Melvin) Naught and Adeline Ireland as well as numerous cousins. Barry was born December 9, 1949 in Weyburn and grew up south of Weyburn in the RM of Lomond. He was a long time member of the Weyburn 4-H club and worked for many years at the Weyburn Livestock Exchange. He enjoyed raising cattle and working the land with his father. Barry worked very hard raising 200 head of cattle, at times by himself. He was a kind, strong and hardworking man who liked the simple things in life: fishing, boating, playing guitar, listening to music, singing, playing cards and riding horses with his family. Funeral service was held Thursday, September 24 at Fletcher Funeral Chapel with Reverend John Ferrier officiating. Interment followed in Green Acres memorial Gardens, Weyburn. Kitty Elizabeth Tollefson
March 2, 1943 - October 2, 2009
It is with sadness that we announce the demise of Kitty Elizabeth Tollefson of Creston, BC. Predeceased by her father Almer, Kitty is survived by her mother, Gladys; children: Brenda Chilson, Kathy Hanson and Mark Chilson; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild; brothers Tom, Dick (Treva), Bob (Noreen), sister Carol (Art) Musk, several nephews and nieces. Funeral service was held in Creston, BC October 9, 2009. Interment in Sask. at a later date. We will miss her. May she rest in peace.
George Vilcu
On Friday, October 9, 2009, George Vilcu of passed away at Tatagwa View Long Term Care Facility, Weyburn, at the age of 93 years. Greorge is predeceased by his parents, Dumitru and Ecaterina Vilcu; four sisters, Maria, Mary, Anna and Eva, and by his wife Elsie. George will be lovingly remembered by his three children: Harold (Dianne) and their children: Vasile (Paula), Jeannette, Owen, Isaac, Claudette (Craig), and Brett (Melissa); Isabella (Grant Cooper) and her children, Kimberly (Perry), Clayton (Abbey) and Christine, their father, Lyle Mutter; Kay (Darell) Appelquist and their children, Joshua and Kari; 21 great grandchildren and one great great granddaughter; his brothers, Dan of Regina, John (Mary) of Griffin, Jack (Elsie) of Regina, and Nick of Midale; one sister, Helen Eddy of Weyburn; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Predeceased by his sister, Maria in 1912, George was the third born to Dumitru and Ecaterina Vilcu. He was born October 29, 1915 in Regina. He and his siblings grew up on their farm at Dysart. George quit school at 15 years old and farmed with his father from 1930 to 1940 at which time he bought a quarter of land as well as rented a section and still helped his father. In 1934 he attended Balfor Tech to take a mechanic course. In June of 1944, George and his brother-in-law came to Griffin to buy land. In the fall of 1944 he met Elsie Wilkinson. They were engaged Christmas Eve in 1945 and married May 2, 1946. They raised three children: Harold, Isabella and Kay. April 1, 1974 they moved to Weyburn and George continued to farm until 1975. He retired in 1980 at age 65, and then worked as a caretaker at Green Acres Memorial Garden. Elsie and George were able to celebrate 61 years of marriage before Elsie's passing in 2007. His love of farming never died. After moving to Weyburn he continued to go to the farm and work on the land. George enjoyed fishing, dancing, curling and liked to go for bike rides and for walks. He will be deeply missed by all he loved. A Prayer Service was held Wednesday, October 14 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Nicholas Romanian Orthodox Church, Regina. The funeral service was Thursday, October 15 at 10:30 a.m. from St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Weyburn, with Rev. Fr. John Maerean officiating. Interment followed in Green Acres Memorial Gardens, Weyburn. The Active Pallbearers were his grandsons: Vasile Vilcu, Owen Vilcu, Isaac Vilcu, Brett Vilcu, Clayton Mutter, and Josh Appelquist. Donations may be made in memory of George to a charity of the Donor's choice. Arrangement were entrusted to Fletcher Funeral Chapels Ltd., Weyburn (306-842-5432).
Grace MacKay

Grace MacKay of Regina passed away suddenly on October 8, 2009. Proud of her independence, Grace lived in her own apartment until her death in her 99th year, and on the day before she died she enjoyed an afternoon of fun with her brother and sisters. Grace was predeceased by her parents Thomas and Myrtle Irwin, her husband Royden (who died in 1977), her brothers George, Garnet and Glenn, and her sister Edna. She is survived by her son Harold and his wife Jean; her grandchildren Donnie (Kayla) and Carol (Dean Horner); her great grandchildren, Makenzie MacKay, Anna Horner, Lindsey MacKay, Simon Horner, Parker MacKay and David Horner; her brother Don Irwin (Alice) and her sisters Gladys Lundeen and Elsie Ford. Grace was born near Ridgetown, ON and moved as a toddler to the Odessa/Sintaluta area of Saskatchewan where she grew up on the farm with her seven brothers and sisters. After teacher training at Normal School in Regina, she taught at schools in rural Saskatchewan during the dirty thirties and was one of the first members of the Saskatchewan Teachers' Federation. A few years after marrying her husband Royden, a fellow teacher, Grace moved to Weyburn where she and Royden taught school for many years, retiring in 1971 to the Regina apartment in which she lived until her death. Grace, "Nanny" as we all called her, was small but mighty, a force in bowling, curling and golf and (to hear her tell it) as a five-foot-tall basketball "Jumping Centre". She was also a person of strong informed opinions, a killer card player, a prize winning cook, the life of many parties and, in her later years, a dedicated fan (and occasional critic) of the Blue Jays and the Roughriders. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends, including in particular her fellow residents at Martin Luther Manor who were her buddies for the last two decades. At Grace's request there was no funeral, but rather a private family interment service at Weyburn. The family thanks the doctors, nurses and others in the Emergency Room and Cardiac Care Unit at Regina General Hospital for their competent and caring attention to Nanny. Flowers are gratefully declined but gifts to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan, 279- 3rd Avenue North, Saskatoon, SK S7K 2H8, would be appreciated. Mathias "Max" Muhr
Mathias "Max" Muhr late of Weyburn, SK passed away October 15, 2009 at the age of 93 years. Max was predeceased by his sisters and brothers, Betty (Lucas) Hoffart, Henry Muhr, John Muhr, Hilda (Charlie) Runge, Walter Muhr, John Baumgartner, Eddy Muhr, grandsons, Corey Muhr and Marlin Hordos, along with many brothers and sisters-in-law. Max is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Katherine Muhr, his children, Marilyn Ruesegger, and her children, Dwight, Karen (Frank) Bitanti and their children, [Maria and Vince], Robert (Marilyn) Muhr and their children, Blaine (Sheila) and their children, [Crystal, Sarah, Ashley, Jenna], Todd, Twyla (Mark) Laxdal and daughter [Amy], Michael (Madeleine) Muhr and their children Renee (Chad) Coles and children [Ainsley, Andon], Shawn (Tara) and children [Jordan, Brooke], Collin (Tara) and son [Ty], Jacqueline (Gordon) Stainbrook, and children, Nicole (Daniel) Stainbrook, and children [Nadiya, Aurora], Derek, brother Mike Muhr, sister Francis Baumgartner, sisters-in-law, Agnes Muhr, Eva Muhr, Lillian Muhr, and numerous nieces and nephews. Hershel Eugene Williams
Hershel Eugene Williams late of Weyburn peacefully passed away into the arms of our Heavenly Father Sunday, October 11, 2009 at the age of 90 years. Hershel was predeceased by his parents, Arthur and Elsie Williams, his sister, Hazel Watts and a baby girl. Remaining to celebrate his life are his wife Vivian Williams, Weyburn; his children: Rick (Cheryl) Williams, Tribune; Rita (Don) Benneweis, Saskatoon; Myrla (Milo) Erickson, Goodwater; Grant (Robin) Williams, Weyburn; 11 grandchildren: Jason (Shannon) Williams, Calgary, AB, Laurie (Tom) Reule, Devils Lake, ND, Aaron (Deidre) Benneweis, Saskatoon, Terra (Chris) MacEwan, Saskatoon, Dallas Erickson, Vancouver, BC, Melissa Erickson, Regina, Vanessa Erickson, Weyburn, Rachel (Waylon), Kardash, Saskatoon, Megan (Mike) Ierullo, Calgary, AB, Julie Williams, Saskatoon, Nicole Williams, Weyburn; five great-grandchildren: Ryyan, Reegan, Abbey, Lily and Payton; his sister, Vera Hoy, Peterborough, ON as well as several nieces and nephews. Hershel was born on October 16, 1918, at Maxim, SK. He lived a full and happy life with Vivian for 65 years. He was the youngest of three children born to Arthur and Elsie Williams and lived most of his life on the farm west of Tribune. In 1942 he enlisted into the air force and spent until the end of the war at Brandon and Yorkton and never saw action overseas. In 1944 he married Vivian Daniels and they had five children; the first daughter being still-born, but raised Rick, Rita, Myrla and Grant on the farm. He worked very hard as most of that generation did but enjoyed time with his family. Visitation was held on Wednesday October 14 at 7:00 p.m. from RD Family Funeral Chapel, Weyburn. Funeral service was held Thursday, October 15 at 2:00 p.m. at the Free Methodist Church with Pastor Norm Bonk and Pastor Jay Mowchenko officiating. Internment was at the Slager Cemetery, Tribune. Active Pallbearers were Jason Williams, Aaron Benneweis, Dallas Erickson, Waylon Kardash, Mike Ierullo and Chris MacEwan. Isobel Joan Ross

Peacefully, on September 22, 2009 at Weyburn General Hospital, Isobel passed away at the age of 90 years. Left to mourn Isobel's passing are her sister-in-law Winnifred Ross, nieces Carol (Glenn) Letts, Betty (Peter) Stratman and Marjorie Dunford, nephew Jim (Jennifer) Ross and their families. Isobel was born in Carievale, on July 22, 1919 and grew up on the family farm south of town. She spent her adult life in Weyburn and although her stay was brief, she enjoyed her last months at Tatagwa View Personal Care Home. Isobel was predeceased by her mother and father John and Adelaide Ross, sisters Jessie and Helen, brother Edwin and brother-in-law Gordon Buker. Cremation has taken place, and a private family interment will be held at a later date. The family would like to thank the residents of Bison Manor for their kindness and friendship throughout the years, as well as the staff at Tatagwa View for the compassion and care provided to Isobel in her final months.
