Sherry Ann Keen
June 19, 1956-February 22, 2008
It is with profound sadness the family of Sherry Ann Keen (nee Frank) announces her premature death on February 22, 2008, with her family by her side, after a courageous 3-1/2 year battle with cancer. She was born and raised in Tribune, and attended school in Tribune and Oungre. Sherry went on to receive her Recreational Technology degree at SIAST Institute in Saskatoon. Sherry met her soul mate Michael Keen while visiting relatives in Mankota. Mike and Sherry were married on July 29, 1978 and had the loves of their lives, Tamara in 1979 and Brittina in 1981. Mike and Sherry farmed in Mankota until 2001 when they moved to Moose Jaw. Sherry enjoyed working as a Recreation Activities Director at Mankota Hospital and Extendicare in Moose Jaw. Sherry loved the residents that she so compassionately and gently cared for - they meant so much to her. Sherry had numerous hobbies including flower gardening, playing guitar, sewing, crocheting and she had a passion for dolphins. Her biggest joy in life was spoiling her two beautiful granddaughters Morgan and Madisyn. It didn't matter how poorly she was feeling, she always found the energy to spend time with her "little angels". They were her world. She is survived by her loving husband of 29 years, Michael; daughter Tamara and special son-in-law Norm Ferraton (Morgan and Madisyn); daughter Brittina and her special friend, Justin. Sherry is also survived by her mother, Reggie Frank of Kenosee and brothers Blaine (Debbie) Frank of Weyburn, Barry (Giselle) Frank of Saskatoon, Cory (Nella) Frank of Winnipeg, MB; brothers-in-law Edward (Elsie) Keen of Moose Jaw; and Joseph (Karen) Keen of Claresholm and sister-in-law, Kay (Lou) Karpick of Lethbridge, AB, and all of her special nieces and nephews. Sherry was predeceased by her father, Allan Frank in 1991, and two sisters-in-law. A Vigil Prayer Service was held Monday, February 25 at 7:00 p.m. at Moose Jaw Funeral Home, 268 Mulberry Lane, Moose Jaw. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, February 26 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, 1064-3rd Ave NW, Moose Jaw. Mabel Iva Maude Longman
Mabel Iva Maude Longman passed away on Friday, February 22, 2008 at Weyburn Special Care Home at the age of 95 years. She was born December 19, 1912 at Talmadge, the eldest daughter of Lawrence and Ethel Longman. She was predeceased by three brothers: Max and Stan both of Kelvington, and Lawrence (Larry) of Cowley; and two sisters-in-law, Eva and Dorlene Longman. Mabel is survived by a sister, Viola (Les) Beard of Kelvington, and many nieces and nephews. She leaves three sons: Russell, Lloyd and Gerald Borrowman all of Weyburn. While she spent her life on a farm south of Weyburn, she attended grade school in Melita, MB and completed her education to Grade 11 at Delight School. Her time at Delight school saw the beginning of a love of baseball and animals and the formation of life-long friendships. An aspiring teacher, she instead chose the life of homemaker, the focus of her love and attention, her three sons. While her life was filled cooking, baking and gardening, the life-long centre of her life values was the teachings of the Holy Bible. She loved to tend to a flower garden, crochet and knit. Many knitting items were presents for the dolls of nieces. She derived great personal satisfaction from her role as Sunday School teacher and Missionary Society president as well as regular attendance at prayer meetings. She led a life of spirituality, self sacrifice, hard work and devotion to family. Her gentleness and love will be missed by her family. Leonard Murray Dickison
Leonard Murray Dickison, late of Weyburn, passed away on Sunday, February 24, 2008 at the age of 88 years. Leonard was predeceased by his parents: John and Marrianne Dickison; his son Gerald Dickison; his sisters, Violet Bullock, Myrtle McLaren and Ida Butson; his brother, Elvin (Ab) Dickison. Leonard is survived by his wife, Verla Dickison, Weyburn; his son, Gordon (Lorna) Dickison, Manor, and their children: Eryn, Andrea and Jessie Leigh; his daughters, Jean Blachford, Weyburn, and Beth Berlovan, Weyburn, and her son, Brian(Stephanie) along with their daughter, Tori. Leonard also leaves to mourn several nieces, nephews and friends. Leonard Dickison was born at Antler. He married Verla Smith on November 10, 1954. Leonard was a farmer and he enjoyed picking rocks with a rock picker, liked combining and working in the fields and loved raising farm animals. Collecting and restoring clocks, listening to music on his old radio, and a love of old machinery were some of the pastimes he enjoyed. He was proud of his restored 1949 Case Tractor. The Service of Remembrance for Leonard was held on Thursday, February 28, at 1:00 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Weyburn, with Pastor Martin Olson officiating and Pastor Cameron Weber assisting. All in attendance were considered honorary pallbearers. Interment will be held at a later date. Davena Joy Farkas
Davena Joy Farkas (Grant), born October 1, 1939, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 4, 2008, after a courageous battle with cancer. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Bruce Farkas and parents Dave and Rilla Grant (Jackson). She has left to celebrate her life, special friend Reinhard Eisbrenner; daughters: Debra and Jim Johnson, Patsy and Darrell Bernard, Cindy and Craig Steinley; and son Grant and Amanda Gooding; grandchildren: Cory, Amber, Melissa, Amy, Kyle, Brittany, Dallas, Ashton and Tessa. Mom taught school for a few years in Central Butte before staying home to raise her children. She was very involved in the Rebekah Lodge. Later in life, she ran a care home for 15 years. Mom will be most remembered for her sense of humour. Special thanks to Stacy Fogal and the Palliative Care nurses who made it possible for Mom to stay at home. Anne Marie Fellner
On Sunday, March 2, 2008, Anne Marie Fellner, of Weyburn, passed away at the age of 82 years. Predeceased by her husband, Alfred Fellner; her parents, August and Katherine Kaip; five brothers and their wives: John (Katie), Lorenz (Anne), Peter (Eva), Max (Anne), and Joe (Dorothy) Kaip; one sister and her husband, Katie (John) Fellner; two brothers-in-law: Fred (Tess) Fellner and Mel Fellner; and one sister-in-law and her husband, Rosina (Peter) Kesslering. Anne will be lovingly remembered by her four daughters: Linda (Brad) Pingert of Pangman; Arlene (David) Mallory of Brockville, ON; Delores (Murray) Silljer of Outlook; and Colleen (Gord) Gallinger of Weyburn; grandchildren: Dawn (Pat) Boyd, Bonnie (John) Moleski, Amanda (Blair) Bendickson, Reese Pingert, Brandon and Brooke Mallory, Boe Silljer, Bobbie-Lynne (Craig) Wagner and Megan Silljer; great grandchildren: Madelyn Boyd, Chance Moleski, Ellie and Samuel Bendickson and one on the way; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. Anne Marie Kaip was born on December 16, 1925 on the family farm four miles south and west of Khedive. She was the youngest of seven children born to August and Katherine Kaip. She attended school in Khedive, completing grade 10. She loved playing ball, singing, school concerts and of course dancing. Anne enjoyed school, even taking French. Upon leaving school, she worked for a couple at Ceylon. She then moved home and lived in Khedive during the winter and went out to the farm in the summer with uncle Joe. On February 27, 1946, Anne married Alfred Fellner at Khedive. They farmed west of Khedive and Anne kept busy helping Alf with the milking, taking meals to the field, hauling grain in harvest as well as canning fruit, vegetables and sausage, and taking care of four children and the house. Her greatest joy was her family and she looked forward to visits from them, including her brothers and sisters, nieces and nephews and friends. She was always making coffee and feeding people. Anne liked to travel and go for a drive on Sunday afternoons looking at crops or just the countryside. She traveled to Toronto as a young woman and she and Alf went to Hawaii in 1976 and made many trips to Ontario. She was a sharp dresser and loved shopping. Her love of music, singing and dancing led to her arranging trips to Craven, Watrous, Plentywood and every Polka Fest that time and energy would allow. She was active in the community, volunteering her time for Meals on Wheels, the Altar Society, the Old Timers Dance committee, was a member of the Legion Ladies Auxiliary and enjoyed bowling. As a member of the Mall Walkers Club, one winter she walked enough miles to get to North Battleford. She was also a member of the Tatagwa Walking Club. Anne was Provincial Queen of the Tops Association and was honored at a banquet in Saskatoon, and she was a former member of the Pioneers Dance Band. She had a battle with cancer in 1974 but with treatment, she remained cancer free until recently. In 2000, Alf passed away and she had to learn to live on her own with the help of her family and friends she carved a new life for herself. A severe stroke left her paralyzed on the left side, but she battled back with a faith and determination that was inspirational to all who knew her. Not only did she walk again, she danced. She was a woman of grace, courage, beauty and faith, and the life lessons she taught will remain with her family forever. Prayers were said Wednesday, March 5, at 7:00 p.m. from Fletcher Funeral Chapel, Weyburn. The Funeral Mass was held Thursday, March 6, at 10:30 a.m. from St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church, Weyburn, with Fr. Gerry Bauche officiating. Interment followed in Khedive Cemetery. Pallbearers were: Pat Boyd, John Moleski, Blair Bendickson, Reese Pingert, Boe Silljer and Carl Fellner. Donations may be made in memory of Anne to the Canadian Cancer Society. Marie Odella Throssell
Marie Odella Throssell, late of Radville, passed away on Thursday, February 28, 2008 at the age of 88 years. Marie was predeceased by her parents: Alma and Harry Hunstad; her husband, Albert Throssell; two sisters: twin, Hilma Hunstad and Evelyn Hanning; four brothers: Milo, Orries, Donald and Leroy Hunstad. Marie is survived by her brother, Harold (Gladys) Hunstad, Lake Alma; two sisters, Doris Anderson, Weyburn and Ilene (Alex) Miles, Weyburn; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Marie was born on the family farm near Lake Alma, on September 23, 1919. She attended Pepper School in the Pepper District, which later became Lake Alma District. Marie remained in the area. She worked at various farms and at home. She cared for her chronically ill mother until June of 1964 when Albert Throssell and Marie were married. Marie and Albert moved to a new home in Lake Alma in 1965 where Marie resided until she entered a nursing home in 2001, the Radville Marian Health Centre. Marie's home had a very calm, peaceful atmosphere, which reflected her personality. Any time you came to visit, there was a meal ready and the table was set with her good china. She made you feel special. Her garden was her pride and joy. A visit to Marie always included a tour of the garden. You often went home with a bouquet of flowers and a pot of perennials. The church played an important part of her life. She lived her faith and always gave a helping hand to her family and friends. The Funeral Service for Marie was held on Tuesday, March 4, at 2:00 p.m. at Faith Free Lutheran Church, Lake Alma, with Pastor Kelly Henning Officiating. All in attendance were considered honorary pallbearers. The active pallbearers were Wayne Hunstad, Harlan Throssell, Leslie Hunstad, Brian Hunstad, Albert Anderson and Allan Anderson. Interment followed at Saron Cemetery, Lake Alma. Helen Eskdale
Helen Eskdale passed away peacefully at Tatagwa View Long Term Care Facility in Weyburn, on Saturday, March 1, 2008 at the age of 80 years. Helen Carol (Olson) Eskdale was born November 29, 1927 at Torquay. She was the eldest of nine children born to Carl and Gina Olson. She took her schooling at Maple View, Gilbertson and Torquay High School. In 1952, she graduated as a Psych. Nurse at the Weyburn Mental Hospital. She married Bill Eskdale in 1952, and their son Larry was born the following year. She was predeceased by her parents, Carl and Gina Olson; her husband Bill in 1991; her brothers: Gordon, Morris, Franklin and Herb; also her brother and sister-in-law, Don and Tressa Eskdale, brother-in-law, Gordon Clark and sister-in-law, Estelle Olson. She leaves to mourn her son Larry (Sheila), granddaughter, Melissa and family; also three step grandchildren and families; two sisters, Lucille Clark and Jean (John) Wagner of Weyburn; two brothers, Victor (Shirley) Olson of Calgary, AB and Walter Olson of Regina. She will be fondly remembered by nieces, nephews and families. The family would like to thank the staff at Tatagwa View, for the wonderful care she received while there. R.M. Billie Wilder

R.M. Billie Wilder of Airdrie, AB, passed away on Monday, March 3, 2008 at the age of 87 years. Billie was born in Weyburn where she worked, raised her family, curled and spent summers at Kenosee Lake, then retired to Nanoose Bay, BC where she spent many hours on her garden, boating and fishing and Traditional Rug Hooking, then moved to Airdrie to be closer to her daughter and family. She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter Leslie (Richard) Cuthbertson, grandson Shane (Charla) Cuthbertson; great-grandsons Chase and Kale; granddaughter Jodi Cuthbertson; all of Airdrie; son John (Diane) Wilder; grandaughter Carly Wilder, all of Winnipeg, MB; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Billie was predeceased by her husband Les; her brother Jack and sister-in-law Helen Andrews, her parents Arleigh and Luella Andrews; brothers-in-law Archie and Cecil; sisters-in-law Jean and Florence Wilder. Bruce Walter Friesen
Bruce Walter Friesen passed away peacefully on February 24, 2008 at the age of 73 in Weyburn, after a courageous battle with cancer. Bruce was born in Melville in 1934. He was predeceased by his mother Mary in 1953 and his father Isaac in 1976. Bruce is survived by his two daughters: Charlene (AJ) Langevin and their children: Cheyenne of Weyburn, and Elijah of Steinbach, MB; Charmaine (John Bakaluk) and their children: Christopher, Dakota, Shania, and Shae-Lynn and Savannah Bakaluk of Weyburn; his two sons: Derek Friesen and his children: Jaiden and Dorien of Melville; and Terry (Janna) Friesen and their children: Kayla, Jaida and Brett of Melville. He also leaves two sisters: Kay (Charles) Miller of Melville; and Alice Friesen of Yorkton; and two brothers: George (Maxine) Friesen of Melville; and Harvey (Leona) Friesen of Regina, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Bruce started his career of lifelong employment with the Canadian National Railway in 1959. He dedicated 28 years of service to the building and maintenance of the railway, mainly in Saskatchewan, before retiring in 1987. Bruce grew up in Melville where he enjoyed many activities including playing hockey, baseball, building sleds and various other hobbies with friends and family. He was an avid fan of the Melville Millionaires, Saskatchewan Roughriders, the Toronto Blue Jays and the Toronto Maple Leafs. He also enjoyed walking and sight seeing. His wonderful sense of humor would leave you with a smile. He enjoyed having conversations about everything from politics to the weather. He also loved visiting with everybody and enjoyed having coffee with his friends and family. Bruce had a kind heart and was known for his happy and friendly personality. He thoroughly enjoyed music, usually Walter Ostanak's polka television program. Bruce enjoyed spending quality time with his children and grandchildren. He especially enjoyed attending sporting events, watching movies and having family meals. He had a great concern and compassion for his children and grandchildren and everyone's well being. Bruce was a very strong believer in his faith, which he practised daily, helping him through his illness, which he faced with a strong heart, spirit and mind. Bruce will be sadly missed by his family and all who knew him. May he rest in God's eternal care. The Service of Remembrance was held Saturday, March 1, at The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses in Weyburn, with Arnold Kozak presiding. His interment took place Sunday, March 2 at the Melville Cemetery, where he was laid to rest peacefully with his parents.
