GUENETTE -- Ernest George, (Good Ol' Ern) in Langley, B.C., February 2, 1998 with his family by his side. He lost his battle with leukemia, a battle fought valiantly. He is now at peace. Ernie was born in Gravelburgh, Saskatchewan on March 8, 1923 and lived 74 rich years. Predeceased by his baby sister Lita Clara Kanuka. Ernie is sadly missed by Elsie, his wife of forty-nine years; his children, Lynne Guenette of Black Creek, B.C., Barb (Randy) Takaoka of Seattle, WA, Jan (Milly) Guenette of Fort Saskatchewan, AB, Paul (Keiko) Guenette of Eagle Island, B.C., Mary (Earl) Smith of Black Creek, B.C., Kathryn Guenette of Ladner, B.C.; dear grandchildren, Lisa, Keri, Renee, Takeshi and Natsuko; and his sister Marie Guenette and her good friend Virginia Haffey of Las Vegas, Nevada. There are also many children who considered Ernie their "grandpa", loved him as one and were loved by him. They will miss him. Although he was a talented commercial artist by trade, Ern's real passion in life was golf, which he played throughout the years with his family and good friends. He was a member of the Delta Golf Club. He served in the 8th Army, saw action in the Italian Campaign and was severely wounded in the service of his country. Ernie was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion and the War Amputations of Canada. Ernie's family wishes to thank Dr. John Shepherd of the Leukemia/Bone Marrow Transplant Program at Vancouver General Hospital and Dr. Karen Mason of Langley, who cared for Ernie during his illness. Without their help and encouragement we would have been lost. A Mass will be at St. Joseph's Parish (20676 Fraser Highway, Langley, B.C.), on Friday, February 6, 1998 at 10:00 a.m., officiated by Father Maredo Reyes, with a Wake to follow in the common room at Ernie and Elsie's residence at 5360 - 205 Street, Langley, B.C. Ernie will be cremated as he requested. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to either the Leukemia/BMT Program, c/o Vancouver General Hospital Foundation at 855, W. 12 Avenue, Vancouver, B.C. V5Z 1M9, or to the War Amputations of Canada, "CHAMPS Program", 2827 Riverside Drive, Ottawa, Ontario, K1V 0C4. Ernie was treasured and loved dearly by his family and many friends. We will miss him more than words can say and will celebrate his life as long as we have life. We ask you to do the same.

HUGHES -- Betty Evelyn, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 31, 1998 after a twenty-seven year long illness. Her strength always came from the right to see her children grow up and venture out on their own, and the love of her mother and father who both lived long lives. Her mother passed away three years ago at the age of ninety-three, and her father, whom Betty visited three times a week, is still living at the age of ninety-four. During all those years of illness, Betty never gave in, she fought all the battles to go on living as though nothing happened to her. Our mother was sharing and gracious to all. Betty leaves behind four sons, two daughters-in-law, and a grandchild who is due to arrive in three months. Jerry, Howard, and Lorelei, Bob, Peter and Lori, who were her "Golden Rainbow of Strength". P.S. (Missy the putty cat. The love of a pet which can never be measured in return.) To sum it up: our dear mother, a one man woman, Buckingham cigarettes, white cotton shirt, blue jeans, moccasin shoes, and a waitress with a smile for all. Betty's only disappointment in life was that she did not have the strength to go back to work as a coffee shop waitress. As always in life, one thing ends, but everything else goes on - as will our everlasting love for a very special mother. Thanks to the staff at Carewest/Glenmore Park for their caring ways. If desired, memorial donations may be made to the Carewest Foundation, 1070 McDougall Road N.E., Calgary, T2E 7Z2. A Private Family Service will be held. JACQUES FUNERAL HOME, Directors. Telephone: 297-0711.

He raised his family in Yorkton, Saskatchewan and moved to Calgary to work for the Calgary Stampede in 1970. Peter resided in Calgary until his passing. BRYAN -- Bonnie Caroline Bryan passed away in the loving care of her family at home in Springbank on January 28, 1998 at the age of 27 years of breast cancer. Her passing was made peaceful by the collective strength of Bonnie and her family. She is survived by her parents, Karin and Gordon Bryan; her brother Brad; and numerous uncles, aunts and cousins. Bonnie earned her B.A. in History from the University of Alberta in 1993, and subsequently proceeded to the University of Victoria to study law. She will be remembered for her continuous compassion, her keen wit and intellect, her unfailing loyalty to friends and family, and above all for the unbelievable strength she demonstrated in the face of her illness. She was and will continue to be an inspiration to those friends and family who knew her. Shortly before her death Bonnie held a gathering to celebrate her life and to express to all her loved ones how important they had been to her during her life, and how important it will be for them to carry on. Many people came to see her, to take her into their hearts, and to say good-bye. Sheree Selin and Lavonne Bouchard of the Calgary Health Services' Home Care Unit in Cochrane, and Dr. Eric Wasylenko of the Palliative and Hospice Care Service not only eased the suffering of Bonnie's final days, but helped to bring peace to her through their tireless work.
