WALKER, Dr. Alan John Walker, of Vernon, BC, died peacefully in his sleep surrounded by his family, on January 11, 2003. Born June 13, 1918 in Putney, London, UK, he is survived by his children, Elizabeth Scott (John), Ian (Nancy), Robin (Joanne), Alison and Michael Cooper (Jennie); twelve grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, and predeceased by his wife Lorna. Alan was educated at Epsom College and St. Bartholomew's Hospital Medical School, and was a fellow of the British Canadian and American colleges of surgeons. He practiced surgery in Drumheller from 1951 to 1973, and in Vernon from 1973 to 1985, including two years as Chief of Surgery. An unstinting volunteer and public leader, he served the Drumheller School Board, the Rotary Clubs of Drumheller and Vernon (elected as a Paul Harris Fellow), the Drumheller Music Festival, the Alberta Provincial Music Festival, St. Magloire's Anglican Church/Drumheller, the Diocese of Calgary executive, All Saints' Anglican Church/Vernon, the Diocese of Kootenay executive, and was an Officer Brother in the Order of St. John. Alan was an accomplished Mason, a corresponding member of QCCC, and was particularly proud to have been Past Master of Symbol and Kalamalka Lodges, as well as Provincial Grand Prior of the Knights Templar. Alan was an enthusiastic sailor, gardener, choir member, and typist extraordinaire; an innovative composer and a keen recycler. His sense of humour was unique and has permanently affected those that knew him. The greatest joy of his life was to have his family gathered around him. Alan's family are grateful to the former colleagues and staff who came to say goodbye. Thanks to Vernon Jubilee Hospital Emergency and 3 West for their kind care and attention, and special thanks to Dr. Paul Smylie and the ICU and Respiratory staff for their exceptional and affectionate support. A Memorial Service will be held at All Saints' Anglican Church, Vernon, on Tuesday, January 14, 2003 at 10 am with Rev. Chris Harwood-Jones officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the All Saints' Anglican Church Memorial Fund. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the PLEASANT VALLEY FUNERAL HOME (250-542-4333)

MASSEY, Amy Ruth (Stanton) passed away at Richmond General on February 19, 2003. Born 1935 in Burns Lake, B.C. Predeceased by her husband Harold. She will be deeply missed by her children Shannon (Jim), Blair (Jane), grandchildren Matthew, Tyler and Alanna, mother Dorothea, father Tom, sister Sharron (Del) and many other family members. Amy will be remembered for her work and dedication to various charities and events through the IOF Foresters. A gathering of remembrance will be held on Monday, March 3, 2003, 3:00 p.m., at South Arm United Church, corner of #3 Rd. & Steveston Hwy, Richmond, refreshments and reflecting will be held immediately following. In lieu of flowers, donations to the B.C. Children's Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.

McALPINE, Violet Gertrude (nee Bruin), passed away peacefully on February 19, 2003 at Surrey Memorial Hospital at the age of 90 years. Vi will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her sister-in-law, Rita Bruin; daughter-in-law, Margaret de Pape; step-daughter, Mayli Dunn; 3 nieces, 3 great-nieces; 1 great-nephew; 5 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; other relatives and close friends. MITCHELL - William "Bill" Donald, born November 9, 1921 at Fernie, B.C., died peacefully at home on Tuesday, February 18, 2003 following a long, hard-fought battle with Parkinson's Disease. He is survived by two sisters, Elizabeth "Betty" Dahlhelm of Chilliwack, B.C. and Helen "Bunty" Mitchell of Palmyra, New Jersey and one brother, Dr. Ian Mitchell of Belle Meade, New Jersey. Bill was raised in Fernie and served with the Canadian Army during World War II. He graduated from UBC Law School in 1950, practiced privately, then was employed by the City of Vancouver law department. He moved to B.C. Hydro in the early 1960's and soon after became Manager of B.C. Hydro's Legal Division and retired as Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary of B.C. Hydro in 1985. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, February 27, 2003 at St. Francis-in-the-Wood Anglican Church, 4773 South Picadilly Road (south Marine Drive) near Caufield Village, West Vancouver. MUNN, Leila Emily "Barbara" gently passed away Thursday, February 20th 2003. She may have lost her battle with cancer, but definitely won her battle with life which she lived to the full. She will be missed but never forgotten by her five children, ten grandchildren, great-granddaughter, family and many friends. OSBORNE, Donald Roy of Pender Harbour, BC formerly of Surrey BC, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 21, 2003. Predeceased by his loving mother, Helen Osborne. Survived by his loving wife, Rita; son, Mike (Tania) Osborne; daughter, Michele (Gary) Cromack; step son, Sean Irwin; 4 grandchildren; and 4 brothers. Mr. Osborne was a member of the Heat and Frost Insulators, Local 118 and a member the Royal Canadian Legion. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, February 28 at 2 pm from Valley View Funeral Home Chapel, 14660 72nd Avenue, Surrey. PADDOCK, George, January 6, 1930 - February 20, 2003. Survived by his adoring wife, Ida, and a large extended family who loved him dearly. Regardless of gender, he always refered to men, women, boys, girls, dogs, cats and crows as "fine chaps". He was the finest chap of them all. Those who loved him near and far said their farewells over the last ten month period that he was in hospital with both kindness and generosity. No service by request. In lieu of a service, and since George always loved and supported animals, a substantial bequest will be made to a selected animal shelter at his request. ROUECHE, Anna Agnes, age 90 years passed away peacefully at Lions Gate Hospital on Thursday, February 20th, 2003. She will be sadly missed by her loving husband Buster of 66 years of marriage; sons Wallace (Claire) of Ottawa, Ont, and Rip (Shirley) of Chilliwack, B.C.; daughter Bonny (Paul) Ervin of Royston, B.C.; grandchildren Troy, Sherry, Clay, Ryan and Pepper; sisters Ivy Fraser of Standard, AB and Della Parrot of Atascadero, California, as well as many other relatives and friends. She is predeceased by her son Stirling. Anna was a life member of the Lathes Auxiliary Royal Canadian Legion Branch #150. After 25 years of military life, Buster and Anna spent the last 37 happy years at the home they built together, Trials End on Bowen Island, B.C. Anna was an avid gardener and loved animals. She was a very special grandma. A memorial service will be held at a later date on Bowen Island. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to your local S.P.C.A in her memory. SANDERCOCK, Charles Norman born in Winnipeg, Manitoba December 12th, 1926. Norm passed away in St. Michael's Hospice, Burnaby, B.C. on February 19th, 2003 after a valiant fight with cancer. Survived by his loving wife, Beverley; his brother, Glenn (Barb); sister-in-law, Wilma; daughter, Cheryl (Adrian); grandsons, Conrad, Drew and Lance; son, Greg (Jean); grandchildren, Danica, Cody; son, Neil (Nance). A private service was held February 22nd, 2003 at Valley View Cemetery. For his volunteer work, Norm was rewarded as a local hero in Burnaby for 2002. In lieu of flowers, donations to the BC Cancer Society or the BC Lung Association would be appreciated.

TOLLEY, Martin Henry, born December 25th, 1931, in Woodstock, Oxfordshire, passed away peacefully on February 19th, 2003, aged 71 years. Martin is survived by his wife Janet in Vancouver, sister Diana, niece Helen and nephew Tim in England. Martin will be sadly missed by his many fishing friends. Thanks are extended to the wonderful staff at St. Paul's Hospital. Memorial service will be held in First Memorial Funeral Chapel, 602 Kingsway, Vancouver, on Tuesday, February 25th, at 1:00 p.m. Flowers gratefully declined, but if desired friends may make a memorial donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation. DOHANIC, Nicholas passed away suddenly on April 09, 2003 at the age of 87 years. Predeceased by his wife Winnifred and brothers, John and Mike. Nick is survived by his extended family Barbara Reid; her daughters, Cindy Hall and Michelle Reid; and Barbara's grandchildren. ETTENBERG, Mel. Born May 1, 1929, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on April 11, 2003. Mel is survived by his loving wife Zosia, his sons Beniamin and Richard, brother Bernie (Toni) Ettenberg, and sisters, Bernice Gwiazda and Sally St. Jean (Gaston) as well as many other relatives and friends. A celebration of Mel's life is being held Saturday, April 26, 2003 from 2 - 5 PM in the Langley United Church hall, 5673 200th Street, Langley, BC. FUJIOKA, Shigetoshi of Surrey, B.C. born on July 1, 1916, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2003. He is survived by his loving wife, Kikue; sons, Ken, Jeff, and Victor; daughters, Kathy and Joy (Mike) Barber. A private family service and interment was held at Valley View Memorial Gardens. A special thank you to the staff and nurses of Marrwood Central Extended Care Center for their excellent care and support.

GILL, Debra Devinder, beloved daughter, sister and friend has passed away unexpectedly at the age of 35 years on Sunday, April 13, 2003 in Terrace B.C. Services to be held at Riverside Funeral Home and Crematorium located at 7410 Hopcott Road, Delta, B.C. on Sunday , April 20, 2003 at 2:30 pm. GOLHOF, The Lord in His infinite wisdom took unto Himself His child, Geertje Hermanna (Gerie). Born March 29, 1934, passed away peacefully April 14, 2003 with her family at her side. She was predeceased by her son Richard in 1999. She will be sadly missed and loved forever by her husband Casper of 23 years and their children: sons, Charles of Calgary, Robert (Ann), St. Andrews, Manitoba, Garrett of Tumbler Ridge, BC, Randall of Vancouver; daughter Yvonne (Bill) Emerson, Manitoba and two grandchildren, Jessica and Kouger. Lovingly remembered by sisters, Elizabeth (Dick), Jantina (Harry), Mary (Ron) and brother Peter (Cindy); sisters-in-law, Corrie, Sophie (Gerry), Wilhelmina, Ann (Bill); and many nieces and nephews. Gerie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and touched many lives of people who knew her. She was an active member of the First Christian Reformed Church, and was always ready to serve and help those in need. Gerie also served as a volunteer at the Canada Way Care Centre for the past 10 years and did this with much dedication. Our family wishes to thank Drs. Apps, Davies and nurses, Connie, Susan and Sylvia for their care and support. A memorial service will be held at 12:00 pm Thursday, April 17th at the First Christian Reformed Church, 2670 Victoria Drive, Vancouver. Pastor Henry Numan officiating.
