Harry Dinsdale
August 8, 1932 - November 20, 2008

On November 20th, 2008 Harry Oscar Dinsdale passed away unexpectedly in Kamloops at the age of 76 years.

Harry is survived by his loving wife Anne of fifty two years, his two sons Darrell (Debra) and Tom (Joy). Also left to cherish his memory are his five grandchildren, Christopher, Cameron, Cole, Darren and Brie. He is also survived by his sisters Edith (Chuck) and Molly (Ron).

He was predeceased by his sister Marg (Arthur) and his parents Lil and Oscar.

Harry was born August 8th, 1932 in Vancouver, B.C. He grew up in North Burnaby. Harry was a lifelong railroader with the CPR, and retired in Kamloops in 1991, after 37 years of service. Following his retirement, Harry and Anne volunteered their time with the Kamloops Wildlife Park Railroad Society.

Harry was an avid fisherman and enjoyed fishing the local lakes with his buddies. He particularly enjoyed the times spent at the family cabin on Eagan Lake. It was there he watched his beloved grandchildren take their first steps, learn to waterski, taught them to fish, explore nature and play family games. When he wanted some solitude you could find him chopping wood and making sure the woodpile was constructed to his exacting specifications. Harry treasured the many ‘lake friends’ that they met over the years, with whom he experienced a taste of the ranching lifestyle.

A self-taught woodworker (he has the scars to prove it), he could often be found in his shop using heirloom machinery and recycled wood to make beautiful projects. From carved duck decoys, salad bowls, toys for the grandchildren and coat racks, there was little that Harry couldn’t build when he set his mind to it.

Harry will always be remembered for his great sense of humour. He was born with a twinkle in his eye and loved to joke around. Harry loved children, and always had time for them. He was a fixture at all of his grandchildren’s sporting events and activities and took tremendous pride in their accomplishments.

A long time Kamloops Blazer fan and Booster Club member, they often adjusted their travel schedule to make sure they wouldn’t miss a game. Harry expanded his cultural horizons during his retirement, and found great enjoyment in theatre, jazz and many travel experiences.

If you needed a laugh, a mint to cheer you up, a helping hand or someone to play a rousing game of almost anything, Harry was someone you could count on. He will be missed a whole bunch, but we have been blessed with countless great memories that will live on in our hearts and minds.

A celebration of Harry’s life will take place at 3:00 pm on Saturday, December 6, 2008 at The Baptist Church on 1975 Summit Drive.

Special thanks to the wonderful doctors and nurses in ICU at Royal Inland Hospital.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Harry’s memory can be made to the BC Cancer Foundation (, or to a charity of your choice.
