Edward Bartman
1939 - 2007
BARTMAN, EDWARD: After a long battle with cancer, Edward Adolf Bartman passed away on Monday, August 20, 2007 at Henderson Hospital in Hamilton. Beloved husband of Victoria Bartman (nee Placzek). Loving father of Teena and James Smith. Cherished by his granddaughter Amanda. Dear brother of Kathy and Joe Boros, Adeline Kyweriga and the late Lawrence Kyweriga, Rose and Ron Wach, Barbara and David Pomeranski, Liz and Lawrence Hokanson, and sister-in-law Jean Bartman. He will also be missed by aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his brothers John and Victor Bartman and parents Teene and Michael Bartman. In respect of Ed’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A remembrance of his life will be included at Evening Mass at St. Martin of Tours’ Roman Catholic Church in Smithville on Thursday, August 30, 2007 at 7 pm. Special thanks to all the doctors and nurses for their care and compassion. Harold Lyle Beamer

BEAMER, HAROLD: Peacefully at home on Tuesday, July 10, 2007, Harold Lyle Beamer passed away after a courageous battle with cancer in his 62nd year. Harold was the beloved husband and best friend of June Beamer (nee Lounsbury) for over 36 years. He was a loving son to his parents Lyle Beamer and the late Vera Beamer (nee Beaty), a devoted father to Douglas (Stacey Morrison), Christopher (Tammy Laprise) and Bradley (Leah Camacho), and cherished grandfather to Rylan. He will also be dearly missed by his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Barbara and Gary DeGrow and Marilyn and Benny D'Alessio, and his nieces and nephews. Harold had retired from Orchard Park High School in Stoney Creek after 31 years of teaching. Friends may call at the Merritt Funeral Home, 287 Station Street, Smithville on Thursday from 2-4 and 7-9 pm. The funeral service will be held at Smithville United Church, 116 West Street (Regional Road 20) in Smithville on Friday, July 13th at 11 am. Private family interment at the church's adjoining cemetery will precede the service. A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Stephen Taylor who stood by Harold during his illness; to the nurses of St. Elizabeth's, VON and ParaMed and especially to Leona, Belinda and Maria for their care and compassion; to Paola and Carma, his case managers at CCAC for making so many arrangements possible; and to the Reverends Dale Massender, Ron Pocklington and Gary Patterson for their faithful prayers and spiritual guidance. Beloved son of the late Mary (nee Muir) and the late Murray Blanchard. Loving brother of Marion Derksen and the late Rudy Derksen, and brother-in-law of William Derksen and John Hogan. CAMPION, PETER: At West Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Grimsby on Monday, March 19, 2007, Peter Donald William Campion of Smithville, in his 50th year. Beloved husband of Rev. Katie Campion (nee Macleod). Loving father of Rebecca and Shannan. Loving son of Lois MacKenzie and the late King Campion, and son-in-law of Margaret Macleod and the late John. Brother of Wendy MacDonald, uncle of Tommy and Darren, and brother-in-law of Ian Macleod. Predeceased by his son Kevin (1994). Pete will also be missed by his friends and colleagues in Emergency Medical Services, Cole Carriers of Hamilton and the Harley Owner’s Group. COMFORT, MURRAY: At Hamilton General Hospital on Tuesday, October 16, 2007, Murray Benjamin Comfort of Smithville in his 84th year. Beloved husband of Marjorie Evelyn Comfort (nee Young) for over 58 years. Loving father of Elaine (Martin Hay), Bill, and Janice (John Campbell). Cherished by his granddaughters Samantha, Ashley, Melissa, Taylor and Amy. Fondly remembered by step-grandsons Jeffrey and Jonathan. Murray was a lifelong member of Smithville United Church. With his partner Royal Tylee, together they operated Comfort & Tylee Ltd for 50 years. Murray enjoyed and competed in both hockey and baseball in his younger years. In his later years his passion and pastime was golf right to the end. Also surviving is his sister Dorothy (Harold Davis) and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his sister Isabel and her husband Walter Tuck. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 19 at 11 am at Smithville United Church, 116 West Street (Regional Road 20) in Smithville. Inurnment at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens at a later date. Beloved son of the late Harry Earl Cooper and the late Celina Constance Cooper (nee Ward). Ralph will be remembered and missed by his cousins Tom Andrews of Wainfleet, Gail and David Chu of North Carolina, Janet and Gerald Hutton of Hamilton, and Connie and Claude Melick of St. Anns, and by his beloved horses. Predeceased by her son Robert Dancer, son-in-law Bob Smith, granddaughter Sheila Davidson. Cherished by 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great-grandchilren. Also predeceased by her siblings Norman Atkinson (Ella), Stella Willick (Gordon), Pearl Olaski (Nick), and Beatrice Parker (Bernard). Loving father of George and Betty DeBoer, Louise and John Jakos, Correen and Wally Kloostra, Richard and Elsje DeBoer, Joyce and Arnie Riewald, Fran and Frank Zwaagstra, and John and Heather DeBoer. Cherished by his 22 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Dear brother of Alice Vis (in Canada) and Frouk and Ge of the Netherlands. Predeceased by his sister Dinie in the Netherlands. DEWAR, JACK: Peacefully, at West Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Grimsby, on Tuesday, January 23, 2007, John William (Jack) Dewar of Smithville, in his 91st year. Beloved husband of 56 years to Marilyn Dewar (nee Jacques). Loving father of Katharine Keizer and Sandra Dewar Cofell. Cherished by grandchildren Melanie Keizer, Jeremy Keizer and Philip Cofell. Dear brother of Chuck (Hazel) Dewar and uncle of Joan Clark and Glen Dewar. Predeceased by his daughter Carol Ann Dewar, and sister Helen Dewar. Jack served in WWII with the RCAF for six years. He was a teacher and vice-principal at South Lincoln High School for 31 years, a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 393 for over 25 years, and an active member of the Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation, West Lincoln Historical Society and Smithville United Church. Predeceased by Mary (December 2006), his beloved wife of 68 years. Loving father of Albert and Willy, Peter and Annemarie, Henry and Ruth Anne, the late Tom (1989), Joanne Drenth-VanDyke and Dick VanDyke, Linda and John Rynberk, Bert and Atherton, and Theodore and Sandra. Cherished grandfather of 18 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Also survived by four sisters-in-law in Holland. Predeceased by two brothers, one sister, four brothers-in-law and one sister-in-law all in Holland, one infant granddaughter, and one infant great-granddaughter. Loving daughter of Helen and the late Casimir Blashko, and daughter-in-law of Edward (Ted Sr.) and the late Elizabeth (Betty) Dunsmore. Dear sister of Nancy and Steve Ellison, and Linda and Dave Tait; sister-in-law of Donna and Grant Housley; and dear aunt of Rob, Tom, Graham, Alex, Diane, Natasha and Kevin. Through her career, she touched the heads of many but she will be missed by a far greater number of hearts. Cherished by her 8 grandchildren; Rachel, Lisa, Clayton, Derek, Tom, Dan, Aric and Alyssa, and one great-grandson Adam. Dear sister of James and Carol Yarwood of St. Catharines, and sister-in-law of Clarence and Kathy Helkaa, Marie Green and the late James, and Alvin and Norma Helkaa.
