REGO - At Marshall Gowland Manor on March 13, 2003 MARIA de MELO REGO, age 92, of Sarnia. Born in San Miguel, Azores, she came to Canada in 1965 to raise her family. Beloved wife of the late Manuel de Rego (1953). Cherished mother of Maria & Manuel Paiva, Maria & Daniel Teixeira, and Natalia & the late Manuel Rego, all of Sarnia. Dear grandmother of Maria Makrigiannis, George Paiva, Elizabeth Rego, Helen Rego and Jose Rego. Great grandmother of seven. Sister of Guilhermo Melo, Sarnia, and Almorinda Rebelo, Toronto. Predeceased by children Jose and Lourdes, and sister Ernestina Amaral. Visitation at the McKenzie & Blundy Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 431 N. Christina St., Sarnia 7-9 p.m. Sunday where prayers will be offered at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial 10 a.m. Monday, March 17, 2003 at Our Lady of Mercy Church with Father Dan Rocheleau celebrating. Interment Our Lady of Mercy cemetery.

Predeceased by first husband Lionel MacDonald and second husband Stanley Stephens, parents Arthur Timothy Lyons and Anne Louise Kelly, and sisters Molly Lyons and Terri Farmer. SULLIVAN - On Saturday, March 22, 2003 at Sarnia General Hospital, LOUISE MAY (GERES) SULLIVAN, B.A., M.A., M. Ed.(Admin.), age 72, of Sarnia. Beloved wife of Stu. Loving mother of Susan Blaylock, Hamilton. Dear Grandmother of Shawn & Sheena Seguin. Sadly missed by her extended family, Candy Hayward (nee Sullivan) & husband Russell, Melbourne, Australia, Skip Sullivan & wife Mary, Salt Lake City, Utah and Kelly Sullivan & wife Diane, Bright's Grove. Dear Grandma to Sean and Noel Sullivan and Charlotte & Rachel Sullivan. Sister of Stuart McGowan, Fort Saskatchewan, Alta. She is also survived by her loving niece Elaine Chisholm and nephew Jim McGowan. Predeceased by brother Ken McGowan (1981). After receiving her Master's Degree from McMaster University, Louise moved to Sarnia in 1976 to assume the position of the Executive Director of the Social Planning Research Council. In 1978 she joined the staff of City Hall as Director of Family and Community Services, retiring from that position in 1991 when the city and county services were merged. Being President of the local chapter of the Ontario Heart & Stroke Foundation was only one of several community organizations Louise was involved in. She was a long time member of the Sarnia Yacht Club. Louise's deep social conscience led to her working with and helping many people in the community. Cremation has taken place. Visitation at the McKenzie & Blundy Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 431 N. Christina St., Sarnia Tuesday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. The memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Anglican Church (Michigan and Murphy), Sarnia. LALONDE - Suddenly at his residence on Wednesday, February 19, 2003 CONRAD XAVIER LALONDE, age 77 of Sarnia. Beloved husband of Maxine (Sitter). Dear father of Theresa Lalonde, Cobalt, Richard, Sarnia, Lynne and husband Jim Dixon, Florida, Marthe-Anne Lalonde and Floreal, Paisley, Catherine and husband Dennis Novosad, Fergus, David and wife Mary, Guelph, Rene and wife Sharelle, Bragg Creek, Alberta, and Juliette Klein, Calgary. Grandfather of 10 and great-grandfather of 2. Brother of Lucille St. Germain, Sarnia, Napoleon Lapointe and wife Rita, Sarnia, Rene Lapointe and wife Lauretta, Petrolia. Predeceased by son Lloyd, grandsons Arthur, Jason and Neil, brothers Hector and Albert Lapointe and sisters Maria Degready, Lillian Castles, Coloumbe Gauthier and Rhea Lambert. A Memorial Mass will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Thomas Aquinas Church. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:15 until time of service. May, Marjorie Alice Marion Gorman

Date of Death: February 28th 2003
MAY - Marjorie Alice Marion Gorman (Waters), peacefully at Palliative Care, Lambton Hospitals Group on February 28, 2003. Throughout her life, Marjorie was known for her keen intellect, her boundless energy, her sense of humour and her determination. In 1935 she graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a degree in Honours Mathematics and Physics, the only woman in her graduating class. During her lifetime, Marjorie was a chief guns inspector in Quebec during WW II, a peach farmer on the shores of Lake Erie, and was a strong advocate for excellence in education. She taught mathematics in high schools in Tillsonburg and Sarnia. She strongly believed, 'to teach is to touch a life forever'. Beloved wife of John May for 31 years, Marjorie was predeceased by her first husband George Gorman (1963). Cherished mother of Sandi and her husband Dean deJong, Camlachie and Dale and her husband Brian Shannon, Caledon. Remembered stepmother to Becky Mahar and husband Gerry, Toronto and Brock May and partner Gilda Swartz, Toronto. Grandma will be sadly missed by Jamie, Jondavid, Kathleen, Mike, Tim, Marryn and Graeme. Sister of Lloyd and Marion Waters, Mount Brydges; Rayburn and Sharron Waters, Gloucester; sister-in-law of Alta Waters, Mount Brydges; Edith Waters, Mary McCandless, Strathroy; and Dorothy Waters, Tennessee. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by sisters Mary Peaker and Elva Newton and brothers-in-law Dr. Orville Newton, and John Peaker, brothers Cecil, Cyril, Gilbert, Erwin and Everitt and sisters-in-law Mary Waters and Marie Waters. Visitation at the McKenzie & Blundy Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 431 Christina St. N. Monday 6-9 p.m. There will be a celebration of Marjorie's life at Central United Church, 2 pm Tuesday, March 4, 2003. Cremation to follow with interment at a later date in Tillsonburg. McCLUSKEY - At Lambton Hospital Group, Palliative Care on March 11, 2003, JOHN ANTHONY 'JACK' McCLUSKEY, age 83, of Sarnia. Beloved husband of the late Maureen McCluskey (2001). Loving father of Mary Patricia 'Pat' Casey & husband Norman. Cherished grandfather of Pamela Noon & husband Kevin and Anita Nethercott & husband Michael. Great grandfather of Jordan, Amanda, Krystal, Jacob, Joshua, Kyle & Matthew. Brother of Helen Fitzpatrick and Noel & Margaret McCluskey, Ireland. Also survived by many nieces and nephews in Ireland. Predeceased by brother William and sister Mary. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday March 13, 2003 at Sacred Heart Church. Cremation to follow. Interment at Resurrection cemetery will be held at a later date. McGarrity, Dr. Philip Breen

McGARRITY - On Monday, February 10, 2003 at St. Joseph's Hospital, DR. PHILIP BREEN McGARRITY, age 80, of Sarnia. Beloved husband of Aurette McGarrity. Loving father of John & Michael McGarrity, London. Dear brother of Allen McGarrity & wife Gloria, Moncton, NB, Maurice McGarrity & wife Joan, Oakville, Fr. Richard McGarrity, Marquette Jesuit Residence, Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Genevieve McGarrity and Margaret McGarrity, St. Stephen, NB. Also survived by brother-in-law Bill Brennan, St. John, NB. Predeceased by brother Jerome McGarrity in WWII (1944), sister Patricia Brennan, and parents Philip Breen Sr. and Genevieve McGarrity. Dr. Philip McGarrity served as First Lieutenant in the Royal Canadian Army and was part of the D-Day landing on June 6, 1944. He was mentioned in a Despatch for distinguished service. In his youth he displayed great dexterity in woodworking which led to his chosen vocation, surgery. He attended Holy Rosary Elementary School and St. Stephen High School in New Brunswick. Receiving his B.A. from St. Joseph's University (Holy Cross Fathers) he then graduated from the University of Ottawa Medical School in 1952. He receceived his surgical training from Memorial Hospital in Worcester, Mass. and the University of Pennsylvania. Coming to Sarnia in 1956 Dr. McGarrity was the Chief of Surgery at St. Joseph's Hospital for 15 years and a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons before retiring from practice in 1991. Dr. McGarrity was the team doctor for the Jr. B. teams in Sarnia for over 40 years and relished skating with the players during practice. He was a member of the Sarnia Yacht Club for nearly 50 years and enjoyed boating. He had a love of trout fishing that stemmed from his Maritime roots. Visitation at the McKenzie & Blundy Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 431 N. Christina St., Sarnia, Thursday, 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Friday, February 14, 2003 at Our Lady of Mercy Church. Interment Our Lady of Mercy cemetery. Also sadly missed by her cherished grandchildren Marissa, Breanna, Hillary, James, Jordan, Nathan, Esm , Ellis and Sean.
