LaRue, Mathieu

passed away suddenly, on Friday, April 17th 2009, at the age of 20 years. Cherished son of Paul and Lyne Denis-LaRue. Loving brother of Dave. He will be sadly missed by his grandmother Janine Denis; his grandfather Roger LaRue (Gloria); his aunts and uncles Alan LaRue (Pam), Gary LaRue (Sue), Todd LaRue (Lisa), Suzanne Denis and Louise Denis, as well as his cousins and the many friends whose lives he has touched over the years. Predeceased by his grandfather Gilles Denis, grandmother Monica LaRue, and uncle Marc LaRue. Relatives and friends will be received at Heritage Funeral Home, 2871 St Joseph Blvd., Orléans, on Wednesday, April 29 th from 7 - 9 p.m., and on Saturday, April 25th from 10:45 – 11:15 a.m. A funeral service will follow in the funeral home chapel at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Mathieu to the CHEO Foundation-Diabetes Program (613-737-2780) would be appreciated. Smith, C.A.M.

Chester Albert Marson (CAM) Smith died quietly after a lengthy illness, surrounded by his loving family. CAM was the cherished husband of Mary, the devoted father of Bruce (Stefa), Rod (Lenore), Pamela (John), Jennifer (Robert) and Peter (Krista), the dear brother of Gloria, and the proud grandfather of Tanya, Tara, Andrew, Mark, Jonah, Amelia and Neil. For 42 years, CAM was a loyal employee of the National Research Council of Canada where he enjoyed the opportunity to do wide-ranging mechanical-engineering research. He was heavily involved in various community-service and charity organizations, including being the President of the Cumberland Community Association, Cumberland Curling Club, Cumberland Home Support and the Cumberland Lions Club (Charter Member). The family would like to thank the dedicated caring staff at the Perley and Rideau Veterans’ Health Centre in Ottawa. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Perley or the Cumberland Lions Club would be appreciated. A memorial service will be held at St. Mark’s Anglican church in Cumberland (2476 Montreal Road) on April 25th at 2 p.m. with a reception to follow at the Cumberland Lions’ Hall. passed away on Sunday, April 5th, 2009 at the age of 61 years. Beloved husband of Louisette (nee Morin). Loving father of Stéphane and Nathalie (Roch Picknell). Passes away, surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday March 26th, 2009, at the age of 58. Dear son of Aline Tremblay and the late Rolland Roussel. Desjarlais, Lionel

Lionel left us to go Home on March 26th, 2009, at the age of 88. Beloved husband of 55 years of Jeannette née Dupuis, precious father of Guy, Thérèse, spouse of Claude Renaud and Lucie, spouse of Michel Cayouette and cherished grand-father of Sylvain, Simon-Pierre (Karen) and Jean-Christophe Desjarlais, François (Lyndsay) and Benoît Renaud and Paul-André Cayouette. He was predeceased by a grandchild Ghislain Cayouette, his brothers Eugène, Gilbert, Euclide and his sister Olive. He leaves behind his sisters Adrienne and Lucille, his brothers Pete and Richard, his sisters-in-law Lucie Dupuis-Larocque, spouse of Hermès Larocque and Sister Rita Dupuis.

He had a long and remarkable career in the world of Education as a teacher at primary and secondary schools and as a professor at the Ottawa Normal School and at the University of Ottawa. He was the founding Dean of the Faculty of Education of the University of Ottawa, a member of the Bériault Commission which was at the origin of the official recognition of French language schools in Ontario. Even in retirement, he stayed active as a Professor Emeritus, School Board Trustee and President of the Board of the Centre de jour Guigues. He was a leader in the defence, promotion and blooming of the Francophones in Ontario and elsewhere in Canada. He has received many awards, medals, recognitions and an honorary doctorate from the University of Ottawa.

All those who knew him will remember a profoundly warm and compassionate man, respectful, honest and devoted and whose actions were always aimed to inspire others to learn and to grow.

His leadership was above all founded on the respect of the individual and the fundamental rights of each human being. Avant-gardist, visionary, he knew how to communicate his spark and create an atmosphere of confidence and pride in which his co-workers could create and innovate.

"Only love allows us to see the greatness in the other; only love allows the educator to wish the greatness and the value of the person to grow and only love makes the educator able to be concerned with the actualization of this greatness as if it were his own. To love and to be loved are the most profound needs of all human beings and especially of our youths.” (Lionel Desjarlais, 1993)

She will forever be fondly remembered by her two children Dennis, and Jennifer Millenor (Kirk Millenor) and her cherished grandchildren Connor, Jackson and Benjamin. She will be sadly missed by her brothers Charles Noonan (Karen Cummings) and David Noonan (Arlene), her nieces and nephews Jesse, Jordan, Michael and Katie (Craig Bryant), great-niece Alexandra, as well as by many friends. He boasted “There is nothing he could not repair with enough wire and duct tape.”.
