CARTEN - Mary Caroline (nee Urquhart, nee Hatfield). Mary died peacefully November 22, 1997 in Edmonton, Alberta. Born in Fox River, Nova Scotia on May 23, 1894 to Captain Freeman Hatfield and Flora Salter, Mary led a full life dedicated to the service of others. Mary taught school in Parsboro, Nova Scotia from 1912 to 1915. In 1915 Mary entered St. Luke's School of Nursing in New York graduating in 1918. In 1922 she married Dr. Howard (Doc) Donald Urquhart of New York (predeceasing Mary in 1934). Mary returned to teaching in Parsboro from 1942 to 1960 and in 1960, married Albert Carten of Halifax, Nova Scotia (predeceasing Mary in 1971). Mary then moved West to Alberta where she is survived by her daughter Mary Hudson of Calgary. Also surviving are the Hudson grandchildren, Beth, Diana, John and Heather; the Urquhart grandchildren, Wenona, Pam, Howard and Ross; and five great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at Christ Church, 12116 - 102 Avenue, Edmonton, Alberta on Saturday, November 29 at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Central Park Lodge, 5905 - 112 Street, Edmonton or to a charity of your choice (11/28/1997).

CASAMAYOR ARNADA - Julio Alfonso passed away on September 13, 1997 at the Bethany Care Centre in Cochrane. He is survived by his son Alberto and wife Connie of Calgary; his grandchildren, David and wife Sue, Denise and husband Robert, John and wife Lisa, and Ellemae (Rosie) and her husband Dave; as well as several great-grandchildren. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Mark's Catholic Church, 5552 Madigan Drive N.E., Calgary on Saturday, September 20, 1997 at 11:00 a.m., Rev. Bayani, Celebrant. Cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethany Care Centre in Cochrane, 302 Quigley Drive, Cochrane, AB, T0L 0W4. DE DOMINICIS - Mr. Giovanni De Dominicis, beloved husband of Mrs. Maria De Dominicis of Calgary, passed away at the Foothills Hospital on July 19, 1997 after a brief illness, at the age of 91 years. Giovanni was born September 20, 1905 in Teramo, Italy. In 1958 he moved to Calgary. Giovanni was married to his wife Maria for fifty-nine years. He was involved in the construction industry until his retirement, at the age of seventy-two years. Giovanni enjoyed family gatherings and friendships made throughout his years and gardening. The door was always open for family and friends coming by to share his hospitality and will be remembered for his good sense of humor. Besides his loving wife, Giovanni is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Omerino and Willy; a daughter and son-in-law, Rina and Carmelo Minutoli, all of Calgary; six grandchildren, John, Robert, Nerissa, Antonia, Maria and Orazio; and four great-grandchildren, Isabella, Terra, Megan and Rachel. He is also survived by numerous family members in Italy. He was predeceased by his parents, Vincenzo and Maria, his brother Giacomo and step sister Elisa. Mass will be celebrated at Our Lady of Grace Italian & English Catholic Church (1714 - 14 Avenue N.E.), today, July 22, 1997 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Carmelo Hernandez, C.S., Celebrant. Graveside Service to follow in "St. Joseph's Section" at Queen's Park Cemetery. In living memory of Giovanni De Dominicis, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, "Chapel of the Bells", 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH. (7/22/1997).

DE NANCREDE - Mr. Charles Staples Guerard "Gerry" de Nancrede of Calgary, passed away at the Agape Manor Hospice, Calgary on November 6, 1997 at the age of 76 years. He is survived by his daughters, Barbara Jill (David) Nelson and Lisa Guerard de Nancrede, both of Calgary; and grandson Benjamin. "Gerry" is also survived by his sisters Suzanne Bell and Cynthia Davis, both of Calgary and Katherine McMahon of Vancouver, British Columbia. He was predeceased by his wife Barbara, parents, Chester and Pauline, brother Otis, and granddaughter Hazel Ann, infant daughter of Jill and David Nelson. Memorial Services will be held on Monday, November 17, 1997 at St. Benedict's Anglican Church, High River at 11:00 a.m., the Ven. Archdeacon Robert Griffiths officiating. Cremation was in care of Parklawn Crematorium, High River. Flowers are gratefully declined, but those who wish may make memorial tributes in "Gerry's" name to either the Agape Manor Hospice, 1302 - 8 Avenue N.W., Calgary, AB T2N 1B8 or to St. Benedict's Anglican Church Memorial Fund, 602 - 3 Street S.W., High River, AB T1V 1B4. Arrangements in care of SNODGRASS FUNERAL HOME, High River. (11/11/1997).

DE NEVE - Anna Leonia, beloved wife of Maurice, passed away peacefully at her home on November 15, 1997. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of forty-nine years; and by her children, Clarence, Rita (Randy) Poluck, Anita (Colin) Cockerill, Denise and Cyriel; by four grandchildren, Diana (Tony) Zytko, Phillip (Fatima) Schaber, Kathy (Grant) Yourth, and Amanda Poluck; and by four great-grandchildren, Alex and Christopher Zytko, and Alyssa and Tyler Schaber; as well as her sister and brother-in-law, Proba and Andre De Neve; and many dear friends. Anna is also survived by an aunt and cousins in Canada and many relatives in Belgium. She was predeceased by her father Cyriel De Neve in 1959 and her mother Clara De Neve in 1985. Anna was born near Finnegan, Alberta in 1921. By 1932 she moved with her parents and sister from a farm in the Lyalta District into the Lyalta General Store. Soon, Anna was helping her parents look after the store and post office. In 1947, Anna and Maurice met in Belgium, married in 1948 and together returned to Canada, and made Calgary their home. For many years they owned and managed the Green Gardens Motel. Anna was an active member of Holy Trinity C.W.L. for more than forty years. She was also a C.W.L. past-president. Relatives and friends are invited to a Visitation and a time of sharing on Monday, November 17, 1997 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at MOUNTAIN VIEW FUNERAL HOME (17 Avenue S.E. at Garden Road). Relatives and friends are also invited to Prayers at Holy Trinity Catholic Church (1525 - 45 Street S.E.) on Tuesday, November 18, 1997 at 7:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at Holy Trinity Catholic Church on Wednesday, November 19, 1997 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Ino Cambaling, Celebrant. If friends so desire, donations may be directed to the Canadian Cancer Society (Second Floor, 215 - 12 Avenue S.E., Calgary, AB T2G 1A2). Arrangements and Cremation entrusted to MOUNTAIN VIEW CEMETERY and FUNERAL HOME, 17 Avenue S.E. at Garden Road (3 km East of 68 Street S.E.). (11/18/1997).

TOMASH - Margaret Rose Tomash passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on November 23, 1997, after a long, hard-fought battle with cancer. Margaret was a kind and loving mother, Baba, daughter, sister, aunt and friend who always opened her home to everyone. She will always be remembered for her beautiful wedding cakes, volunteering for the Bonavista Community, Altius Ski Club, Heart fund and a helping hand whenever called upon. She is survived by her daughter Dawn Tink and husband Garry; her son Shawn and fiancee Cheryl Kohalyk; grandchildren, Caitlyn and Kyle Tink; her mother Ann Mihalcean; brothers, Ken Kupina and his wife Sharon, Andy Kupina and his wife Leslie; sisters, Nettie Mastaler and her husband Richard, Laurie Gilchrist, Tina Forst and Terry; as well as special uncle Steve Mokrycky. Margaret is also survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, brothers, sisters-in-law, as well as numerous friends. Margaret was predeceased by her loving husband Bill, her father George Kupina and grandparents, Maria and Nick Mokrycky. A Memorial Gathering will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S "Park Memorial Chapel", (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.), today, November 25, 1997 at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held in Edmonton. Funeral arrangements to follow. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Alberta, 1825 Park Road S.E., Calgary, Alberta T2G 3Y6 or directly to the Alberta Children's Hospital, 1820 Richmond Road, S.W., Calgary, Alberta T2T 5C7. Many thanks to family and friends for the many visits and support, also to nurses Joan, Madalyn, Anne, Judy and Gwen and Drs. Benzler, Williams and Arthur for their wonderful care and compassion for Margaret. The nursing care for Margaret was graciously provided by special friends in the "oil patch" headed by Don Janveau of J.R.S. TOMASZEWSKI - Mr. Stanley Tomaszewski, beloved husband of Krystyna, passed away at the Bow Island Health Centre on July 4, 1997 at the age of 76 years. Besides his loving wife Krystyna, Stanley is survived by his family, Teresa (John) Last and Richard (Debbie) Tomaszewski both of Calgary and Anthony Tomaszewski of Lethbridge; six grandchildren, Jonnie, Susan, Jason, Jeff, Erin and Ian. Mr. Tomaszewski immigrated to Canada from Brazil in 1957 and has resided in Bow Island since coming to Canada. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Michael's Catholic Church, Bow Island on Wednesday, July 9, 1997 at 1:00 p.m. with Reverend Dominic Hung Nguyen, Celebrant. Interment will take place in Mountain View Cemetery, Lethbridge. Following the Interment, relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at 5:30 p.m. for a reception at Mount View Funeral Home, 1122 Scenic Drive, Lethbridge. Arrangements entrusted to MOUNT VIEW FUNERAL HOME, 1122 Scenic Drive, Lethbridge. (7/7/1997).

TOWNSHEND - Elizabeth Morison Townshend (1910 - 1997) passed away peacefully at Bow View Manor on November 13, 1997. Our thanks to the kind and helpful staff of Bow View Manor and Dr. Patrick Quail. Raised in New England, Elizabeth spent her winters in Boston and her summers at the family farm near Peterborough, New Hampshire. In 1933 she graduated from Bryn Mawr in history with her junior year at Radcliffe. From 1934 to 1940 she worked in Washington, D.C. as historian for the National Park Service and Editor of Bureau of Indian Affairs publications for Commissioner John Collier. In 1941 she was Assistant Editor to the Atlantic Monthly in Boston. From March 1944 to November 1945 she worked again in an editorial capacity for the American Office of War Information in London, England. On July 14, 1945, Elizabeth married a Canadian, a Can-Loan Officer to the British Army, Captain James Stuart Townshend, grandson of Col. Macleod who named Calgary. Since 1946 she has lived in Canada, and since 1948 in Calgary. She contributed greatly to the community life in Calgary. From 1951 to 1952, as Educational Chairman of the Junior League of Calgary, she headed the "Fun With Books" radio program. She helped set up the Junior Books program in Calgary. She served as the Chair of the Picture Rental and Sales Committee at the Coste House and Vice-President of the Women's Committee for the Allied Arts Centre. She belonged to a local book club. A writer herself, she wrote and published short stories, children's stories and radio dramas for the CBC and American magazines. After thirty years, she returned to university and graduated with a B.Ed. from the University of Calgary in 1967 as a remedial reading specialist. She worked in vocational schools and tutored privately. Elizabeth is survived by son James Macleod Townshend, his wife Joanne and two grandsons, Shane and Eric; daughter Nancy Frazer Townshend, her husband Donald Smith and two grandsons, David and Peter; sisters, Babette Weir and Mary Jacoby; brother Horace Morison and many adoring nieces, nephews and cousins. A Service will be held at the Unitarian Church of Calgary, 1703 - 1 Street N.W., on Thursday, November 20, 1997 at 1:30 p.m. A reception in the Wickenden Hall at the Church will follow immediately after. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Unitarian Church of Calgary or a charity of your choice. FOSTER'S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 - 4 Street N.W., Directors. (11/17/1997).
