COPPENS - Gerry Coppens, beloved husband of Lorelei Coppens of Calgary, passed away peacefully at home on October 8, 1997 at the age of 42 years. Gerry will also be dearly missed by his children, Jennifer and Steven; his mother Diane Coppens of Winnipeg; a brother Terrance (Holly) Coppens of Winnipeg; a sister Shirley (Jim) Metcalf of Didsbury; and numerous nieces, nephew and other relatives and friends. Gerry was predeceased by his father Gislaine and a sister Doreen. Gerry had worked for eighteen years with Calgary Transit. Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at Rocky View Garden of Peace Funeral Home (16 Avenue and 100 Street (Garden Road) N.E.) on Friday, October 10, 1997 from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at Rocky View Garden of Peace Funeral Home on Saturday, October 11, 1997 at 10:00 a.m. If desired, memorial tributes may be made to the Alberta Cancer Foundation, 1331 - 29 Street N.W., Calgary, T2N 4N2. CORNWALL - September 9, 1997, Donald James Cornwall, aged 76 years, beloved husband for nearly fifty-four years of Hazel Cornwall of Calgary. He is also survived by two sons, Brian of Guelph, Ontario, and Shawn (Pam) of Calgary; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; a brother William Cornwall of Niagara Falls; and a sister Doreen Osborn of Windsor, Ontario. Donald was predeceased by two sons, Cameron and Ian. Donald was a veteran of World War II serving from 1939 to 1945 and was a driving instructor with the Armor Corp. Memorial Service at Pierson's Funeral Home, 4121 - 17 Avenue S.E. on Thursday, September 11 at 10:00 a.m. If desired, memorial tributes may be made to the Canadian Hemochromotosis Association, No. 272, 7000 Minoru Boulevard, Richmond, B.C., V6Y 3Z5. COTE - Pierre E. Cote died surrounded by his family in Calgary on Thursday, November 27, 1997 at the age of 83 years. Born on August 12, 1914 in Edmonton, he is survived by his wife and best friend, Simone Langlais of Quebec City; his daughters, Elaine, Lucile, and Michele; their families, Andre, Manuel, and Sebastien Petitat of Geneva, Marie and Felix Deconinck of Paris, and Sylvain Leblanc of Perce; his brothers, Jean of Edmonton, and Ernest of Ottawa; his brother and sisters-in-law, Charlotte Cote of Edmonton, Marcelle Cote of Hull, Louise Bisson and Monique Langlais of Quebec City, and Joanne and Pierre Langlais of North Hatley. Pierre worked as a mining engineer and a geologist, exploring for gold in the Yellowknife and Northern Quebec regions, and later for oil, after serving overseas as a Coastal Command RCAF Pilot. He then worked for Imperial Oil, Petro Canada and affiliates in Canada, Africa and Europe. At Pierre's request no Religious Service will be held, as he is joining the brachiopods in Peace Point. In lieu of flowers, a donation in Pierre's memory may be made directly to the Samaritan Club of Calgary. COUSER - Thomas David Warmington, passed away at the Peter Lougheed Centre on December 24, 1997 at the age of 80 years. Tom will be fondly remembered by his children, Bonnie (Alvin) Workun of Leduc, Linda Teskey of Hinton, and Kathleen Orr of Toronto; his grandchildren, Randy (Lori) Workun of Leduc, and Matthew and Amber Teskey of Hinton; his great-grandchildren, Christopher and Kristen Workun of Leduc; and his sisters, Dolly Tees, Madge (Charlie) Taylor, and Edith (Lorne) Springsteen, all of Winnipeg. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Madeline Irene, his sisters, Edna Constant, Kathleen Adkin, and Helen Galbraith, and his grandson Kevin David Scott Workun. Tom was born in St. James, Manitoba in 1917. He served in the R.C.A.F. from 1940 to 1945. Upon leaving the service he was a longtime employee of Air Canada working in Moncton, Winnipeg and Calgary. Tom has resided in Calgary since 1953. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend who will be missed by all who knew him. A Service of Remembrance will be held at FOSTER'S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 - 4 Street N.W., on Tuesday, December 30, 1997 at 3:30 p.m. If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Tom's name may be made directly to the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, 1331 - 29 Street N.W., Calgary, Alberta, T2N 4N2. BURGESS - Mr. John Burgess, dearly loved husband and best friend of Mrs. Gwendoline Burgess, passed away suddenly at home on September 16, 1997. John was born on the fourteenth day of October, 1926 in Toronto, Ontario, the son of the late John and Maria Burgess. He was an employee of Texaco Canada Inc. for forty-one years both in Toronto and Calgary. John had a lifelong interest in wartime ship histories and World War II Convoy records, co-authoring "The Ships of Canada's Naval Forces 1910 through 1993". John was the archivist at the Naval Museum of Alberta. His work involved research with the Canadian Navy and the Naval Historical Branch in London, England. John was a longtime member of Grace Presbyterian Church, on the Board of Managers, and Past Chairman of the Grace Housing Authority. A Memorial Service will be held at Grace Presbyterian Church (1009 - 15 Avenue S.W.) on Saturday, September 20, 1997 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. S.J. Stewart officiating. If friends so desire, memorial tributes in memory of John may be made directly to the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Alberta, 1825 Park Road S.E., Calgary, Alberta, T2G 3Y6 or directly to a charity of the donor's choice. In living memory of John Burgess, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, "Park Memorial Chapel", 5008 ELBOW DRIVE S.W., CALGARY. (9/18/1997).

BURGGREN - W.A. ("Bun"), 82 years, died June 12, 1997, in Las Vegas, Nevada. An oil field service person and rancher, he was born April 26, 1915 in Strathmore Alberta and was a longtime resident of Calgary and a four year resident of Las Vegas. He was a past Master of the Free and Accepted Masons, Elbow River Lodge No. 180. He is survived by his wife E. Maureen of Las Vegas; sons, Mark of Etonville, WA, and Warren of Henderson, NV; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild; and sister Jacqueline Hays-Hicks of Richmond, BC. A private Memorial Service was held June 16 at Green Valley Evangelical Lutheran Church in Henderson, NV (6/20/1997).

BURKE-GAFFNEY - Francis Noel Joseph Burke-Gaffney, beloved husband of Lois (nee Kane), died peacefully at the Rockyview General Hospital on October 15, 1997. Francis was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba on October 3, 1924 and moved to Calgary in 1951. He served with the Royal Canadian Navy in World War II in the North Atlantic, South Pacific and Mediterranean aboard the HMCS Uganda. He was a member of the local Naval Reserve, Ret., the Naval Officers Association, Ret., the HMCS Uganda - Quebec Veterans Association, and the Royal Canadian Legion No. 102. He was an active member of Sacred Heart Parish, former trustee for the Calgary Roman Catholic School District No. 1, former President of Alberta Catholic School Trustees Association, former President of Calgary Centre Liberal Association, and a tireless volunteer for the Salvation Army, Canadian Mental Health Association, Canadian Cancer Society and the Stephen Avenue Mall Authority. A Professional Landman for forty-five years, Francis was an active member of the Canadian Association of Petroleum Landmen and American Association of Petroleum Landmen. Besides his loving wife, Francis is survived by his daughter Elizabeth; four sons and daughters-in-law, Sean and Cynthia, Kevin and Cheri, Noel and Ondine, Brian and Janet; and eight grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ted and Helen, John and Isobel, and a sister Sister Mary R.S.C.J. He was predeceased by his parents, and a brother the Rev. Desmond S.J. Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S "Park Memorial Chapel" (5008 Elbow Drive S.W.), on Sunday, October 19, 1997 at 8:30 p.m. Funeral Mass will be concelebrated at Sacred Heart Catholic Church (1307 - 14 Street S.W.) on Monday, October 20, 1997 at 10:00 a.m. with the Rev. Jesus Ronillo Timajo, the Very Rev. Joseph E. LeFort, and the Rev. William F. Stephenson, Celebrants. Graveside Service to follow in "St. Joseph's Section" at Queen's Park Cemetery. If friends desire, a donation may be made to a charity of choice in his name along with a prayer for peace in our time. CAMPBELL - Dr. James Duncan Campbell, cherished husband of Dr. Pamela C. Campbell, of Calgary, passed away suddenly in Edmonton on July 6, 1997 at the age of 67 years. Born and raised in Calgary, Dr. Campbell lived in the home in which his family has lived since 1919. Dr. Campbell earned at B.Sc. at the University of Alberta in 1950 and joined the Kappa Sigma Fraternity while there. In 1954, he graduated from the University of Western Ontario as a Medical Doctor. He trained in Otolaryngology at the University of Toronto and began his practice with the Calgary Associate Clinic in 1962. Dr. Campbell is survived by his wife Pamela, his daughter, Lyndsay M. Campbell of Vancouver, and his four sons, Dr. Earl A.D. Campbell, Iain C.D. Campbell, Graham M.D. Campbell and Bruce F.D. Campbell, all of Calgary. He was predeceased by his parents, Earl D. and Leila D. Campbell. Dr. Campbell was past president of the medical staff at the Holy Cross Hospital, the Alberta Children's Hospital and the Colonel Belcher Hospital, was also on staff at the Foothills Hospital and the Calgary General Hospital, and contributed his services at the Rockyview Hospital. He was past president of both the Canadian and Alberta Societies of Otolaryngology and was on the board of directors of the Alberta Medical Association. He was associate professor of surgery at the University of Calgary. Dr. Campbell took a special interest in Canadian and his family's history and enjoyed hiking, golf and skiing. He belonged to the Calgary Golf and Country Club and the Glencoe Club. We will remember in particular his quiet but firmly held opinions, his droll sense of humour, his compassion and clarity of sight, his love of his city and his country, his affection for his Newfoundland dogs, his devotion to his work and, above all, to his family, and his joy in the life that he had. Those wishing to pay their respects may do so at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S "Chapel of the Bells" (2720 Centre Street North), on Friday, July 11, 1997 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Grace Presbyterian Church (1009 - 15th Avenue S.W.) on Saturday, July 12, 1997 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. S.J. Stewart and the Rev. P.H. Burrill officiating. Graveside service to follow at Union Cemetery. In living memory of Dr. James D. Campbell, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park by McINNIS & HOLLOWAY FUNERAL HOMES, "Chapel of the Bells", 2720 CENTRE STREET NORTH. (7/10/1997).
