BARBER - James (Jim) William Barber passed away November 25, 1997 at the age of 71 years in Kelowna, B.C. Jim will be deeply missed by his wife of forty-eight years, Kathleen (Kay) Marie Barber (nee MacQuarrie). Jim was a wonderful husband and a devoted father to his three children, Kathy-Jo (Tim) Smith (Anchorage, Alaska), Joan (Joe) Trofananko (Kamloops, B.C.), and Kirk Barber (Calgary, Alberta). He was "Graaandpa" to Christopher Barber, Jocelyn Barber, Kyle Smith and Jamie Barber. His sisters, Renee (Vic) Schneider (Kelowna, B.C.), and Gwen Reed (Calgary, Alberta), who supported him through his life, also survive him. We will all miss his sage advice and direct, no nonsense approach to life. Jim was a successful businessman and his proud legacy was to be able to provide his family members with comfortable lives. We all thank Dr. Michael Shepherd of Kelowna, B.C. for his "white coat" visits and his concern for Jim and Kay's quality of life and for the extra years of life that his care gave to Jim and his family. Jim was a simple man when considering ceremony. He will be cremated and a private family Service will be held. In lieu of flowers or donations we know Jim would ask you to celebrate his life and to do something to make your loved ones lives better. Arrangements have been entrusted to FIRST MEMORIAL FUNERAL SERVICES. Rest in Peace, Dad (11/28/1997).

BARDY - Frank William, beloved husband of Shirley, passed away peacefully on July 18, 1997 in Victoria, B.C. He was born in Calgary, Alberta on August 2, 1932. He graduated as a Civil Engineer from the University of Alberta, class of 1955. Frank began his career with Poole Construction then Steele Brothers, Mannix and latterly Consolidated Concrete. He and Shirley were actively involved in St. Matthew's United Church as well as Westminster United Church congregations, Calgary - most well known for their work concerning youth. Frank retired at fifty-two years of age in 1984, enabling him to fulfill many of his dreams, one of which was to build a new home near Abbotsford, close to a summer holiday sight that the family enjoyed. He became an active member in Gladwin Heights United Church, as well as volunteering at Matsqui - Abbotsford Community Services in the Seniors Program for a number of years. In 1993, Frank and Shirley took on a new challenge by moving to Victoria and renovating a 1916 home, which gave them a great sense of accomplishment and pride. He also volunteered at Craigdarroch Castle in the gift shop. His interests were cycling, reading, model airplanes, travel, as well as in people. He showed interest, care and willingness to help others. He was innately optimistic, dependable, energetic, loyal and showed great love for family and friends. Frank is survived by his loving family, wife Shirley; daughters, Cindy (Edwin), Cathy (Paul); sister-in-law Lillian Jones; brothers, Louis (Millie), Joe (Sandra, deceased in 1979), Zol (Joan); niece Karen (Ken); nephews, Ken, Warren (Sophie), Jim (Laura); great-nieces and nephews, George and Kelta, and David and Rachel.
