- Shop now for incredible insights into your wellbeing -PARKKARI - Florence Marie Parkkari. Marie was born August 28, 1933. Her youth was spent in the Alderson and Redcliff areas of Alberta. Marie began her working life at a glass factory in Redcliff, later joining the Royal Bank in Brooks, transferring with them to Calgary. She retired in 1988 to pursue full time her established craft of doll-making. Marie is known for her Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls, as well as many other craft and art projects. Marie was predeceased by her parents, John and Inga Parkkari and her brother John (Jack) Parkkari. She leaves to mourn her sudden death five aunts, May Carlson, Hazel Carlson, Alice Loughlin, Aune Parkkari and Edna Russell; numerous cousins spread throughout western Canada and in the United States. Many, many dear friends also mourn this tragic loss. Funeral Services will be held at FOSTER'S GARDEN CHAPEL FUNERAL HOME, 3220 - 4 Street N.W. on Saturday, November 29, 1997 at 3:00 p.m. Cremation to follow. PARNELL - Jean. (1928 - 1997). Beloved wife of Fred Parnell of Calgary passed away suddenly on November 12, 1997. She is survived by loving children, Lynne (Frank), Judi (Larry), Dan (Dianne), Barb (Bob), Lea and Bruce; and numerous grandchildren. PARSONAGE - Mr. Kim Leslie Parsonage was born December 14, 1956 and passed away suddenly at the age of 40 years. He leaves to mourn, his loving parents, Gordon and Arlane; one brother Duane (Corrine) of Innisfail; one sister Kathi (Parsonage) and Leonard Jaroszuk of St. Albert; three nephews, Scott and Thomas Jaroszuk of St. Albert, Codi Bozarth of Regina; his dog Beau - his best friend and companion. After graduating from the Innisfail High School, Kim chose the third generation family farm to be his life's work. Kim's special loves in life included farming, playing hockey, his many friends, children and especially animals. His special talents with machinery led him to a new career with Richardson Brothers Contracting. Kim brought a great deal of love and joy with his friendly smile to all who met him and knew him. A life lived in kindness, gentleness and unconditional love is the precious legacy he leaves to family and his many friends. BANNISTER - Esther (nee Schuller), July 25, 1903 to July 8, 1997. At rest with husband Ed, who passed September 1979, also predeceased by son Raymond, September 1984 and grandson Darryl Lepla. Survived by son Gordon (Bell), Hinton, Alta.; daughter Marlene (Bob) Lepla, Cranbrook; four granddaughters, five grandsons, seventeen great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, July 11, 1997 at 1:30 p.m. from the McPHERSON'S Memorial Chapel, Cranbrook, B.C. Cremation will precede the Service. BARAN - Mrs. Maria Baran of Calgary, passed away at the Bow View Manor on December 26, 1997 at the age of 94 years. Left to cherish her memory are her nephew John (Lydia) Krill; a great-nephew Bohdan (Sheila) Krill and their children, Matthew and Natalia Krill; a great-niece Maria (Mark) Ochitwa and their children, Christine and Gregory Ochitwa, all of Calgary. She was predeceased by a sister Paraska and brother-in-law Panko Krill in North Battleford, Saskatchewan. She was born in Bazar, Chortkiw, Ukraine and came to Canada in 1949 to North Battleford, Saskatchewan and in 1952 moved to Calgary to reside near her nephew, John Krill and his wife Lydia and family. Mrs. Baran was a member of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary Ukrainian Catholic Church. BARBER - Adelaide Barber, age 85 years, passed away quietly at the Agape Manor Hospice on Sunday, September 7, 1997. She was the last of eight children born to their parents in Saskatchewan. She is survived by her beloved niece Vera and family of Vancouver; as well as numerous other nieces and nephews. Adelaide will be sadly missed by her many close friends among Jehovah's Witnesses; the people she also touched with her job of thirty years with the Four Seasons Hotel; the people of her apartment building; and others she had come in contact with. McKECHNIE - Mr. James Mohr (Jim) McKechnie of Calgary, passed away at the Chinook Care Centre on November 1, 1997 at the age of 82 years. Jim was born in Camrose, Alberta on January 21, 1915 and came to Calgary in 1917. He joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1939 and served during the Second World War. Jim was a life member of the Loyal Orange Lodge No. 2980 and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 1. He will be lovingly remembered by his numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Hiram in 1943, his mother Effie in 1951, and his brother and sisters. Funeral Services will be held at First Alliance Church (1201 Glenmore Trail S.W.), on Wednesday, November 5, 1997 at 2:00 p.m. Graveside Service to follow in the family plot at Burnsland Cemetery. McKENZIE - Douglas Edward passed away at Agape Manor Hospice on Monday, December8, 1997 after a courageous battle with cancer. Doug was born in Tribune, Saskatchewan in1927 and farmed there while his older brothers were overseas during the war. He attended U of S taking Civil Engineering, worked with the PFRA, then joined the RCAF as an engineering officer in 1951. He married Sheila Neff in 1953 and they moved frequently with the forces, living in many of Canada's provinces and territories. Companion and friend of Sheila, he was the proud father of Susan (Ken Climan) Watson, Shannon McKenzie, Kathryn (John) Mathias and Keith (Shannon Woods) McKenzie. He was a loving grandfather to the real joys of his life: David, Sarah, Evan and Jeremy. Doug was an honorable gentleman noted for his honesty, integrity and intelligence. He loved travel and politics and was a voracious reader, champion curler and master bridge player. After his retirement from the forces as a major he was project manager for the Calgary Bus Barns, Alberta Children's Hospital, Lethbridge Regional Hospital and, for a short time, the Town of Chestermere. Doug was immediate past-president of RAUSI, past-president of the Military Engineer's Association, on the board of the Aerospace museum and was Alberta Commissioner for the MacKenzie Association of North America. A Memorial Service will beheld Friday, December 12 at 2:30 p.m. in the Officers Mess, Mewata Armories (southeast corner, 1220 - 9 Avenue S.W.). Heartfelt thanks to the caring staff at Agape Manor, Dr. Jack Williams and the people of the Chemotherapy ward at Tom Baker Cancer Centre who gave us time and cheer (12/10/1997).
