PARK - Mr. Clifford Ernest Park, beloved husband of Gertie, passed away at the Rockyview General Hospital in Calgary as a result of a brief struggle with cancer on Friday, July 18, 1997 at the age of 87 years. Cliff is survived by his four children, Sandy, Terry, Rick, Peg and their spouses. In addition, Cliff enjoyed immensely his ten grandchildren, Brad, Stephen, Michele, Steve, Doug, Suzanne, Scott, Robert, James and Carolyn. Cliff was predeceased by his parents, two brothers, one sister, and his grandson Matthew. He and Gertie had a shared passion in their lives - a love of their family which was reflected by their continual support and encouragement of all ideas and undertaken ventures of their children and grandchildren. Cliff was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta, where he became a true son of the prairies. After completing his high school education, he worked as a sheep herder, and later the Royal Canadian Army before joining Canada Post. His next career move took him to the Canadian Pacific Railway where he worked over thirty-six years as a station agent, telegraph operator and finally as a train dispatcher. This last career move brought him and the family to Calgary in 1949. Since that date he lived in Calgary and was proud in his way to be an integral contributor to the lifestyle of this city. He was truly a skilled Morse code operator, and was one of the last of the integral links of the development of the community and railway - a railway telegrapher. Since his retirement from the railway in 1975, Cliff was able to enjoy his avid interests in reading, history, economics, animals and gardening. He displayed a delightful sense of humor, which combined with his known traits of honesty, loyalty and dependability, made him an excellent companion. Cliff was proud of his achievements in life but he maintained a modest front and preferred instead to share the experiences and energies of his family. He was a longtime member of Southminster United Church and enjoyed his years in the Masonic Lodge. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends. Funeral Services will be held at Southminster United Church (3818 - 14A Street S.W.), today, July 22, 1997 at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Martin Lynas officiating.
